October 23. A busy day. Praise God for His help and strength. Before I even had breakfast, I finished filling up the washing machine so I could wash a load of clothes this morning. I didn’t finish filling it up last night because the water was dirty after the heavy rain. Afterward, I had breakfast and quiet time. Then it was time for lotu. There were only about a dozen people present. A lot of them are still away from the village making gardens. Amos was in charge and preached more on holiness from II Corinthians 7:1, particularly considering God’s promises, referring also to other passages. After lotu, Tomas started the generator, and we let it run for three hours, mainly to get the fridge cold and hopefully preserve its contents. But I also used that time to do a load of laundry. Worked on that in between teaching, whenever the students had independent work to do. It was going on 11:00 before I had the clothes all hung out. At 11:00, I remembered that I was going to call Daddy before he went to the store because I remembered why I hadn’t tried the Full Circle almond milk that SIL has at their store. I was pretty sure it was because it had too much sugar. I went ahead and called anyway, but he had just gotten back from the store and had purchased a couple cartons of the almond milk. He checked on the sugar content while we were talking, and yes, that was the case — too high in sugar. He was going to see if the store would take them back. He said the tech center was still working on the computer. The big problem, which is what Daddy thought, was the virus protection that had been installed in the computer. It didn’t have just one anti-virus, but four. And they were preventing the process from being completed. So the techs were going to remove most of them. Daddy doesn’t know if he will get back tomorrow or Friday. At 11:30, Phinehas came to turn off the generator because Tomas had gone off somewhere. After school, I gave the students each a piece of chicken (mostly bone) to eat on the road. But they stayed here and ate their chicken. After nap, I tried for the third day to send e-mails, but it has been impossible to get any connection these three days. Have been attempting to send the current update to Christy for mailing, and then I will need to send her the updates for e-mailing. Also finished writing lesson plans and wrote some math exercises on the chalkboard. Put a pot of rice on to cook for supper too. This evening, I put bath water on right after supper, answered the door two or three times while it was heating, then enjoyed a nice bath. After that, I put dish water on to heat, worked on science notes while it was heating, and then washed the dishes and the lemons. Kaipo was one of the people who came to the door earlier — she had brought lemons. I tried to talk with her about the Lord, but she was all of a sudden in a hurry to leave. Tonka was another who came to the door, bringing corn and onions. I also talked to Tonka about His need to know Jesus and to receive His offer of eternal life. I was thankful that Tonka was receptive and even asked for material to read. I gave him a copy of the translation of the gospel and epistles of John, and also a salvation tract. He said he would read them and try to understand them. I pray that his understanding will be enlightened and that he will be saved. “1Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely. 2The LORD doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel. 3He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. 4He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. 5Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. 6The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground. 7Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God: 8Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains. 9He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry. 10He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man. 11The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.” Psalm 147:1-11 October 24. It is a quiet evening, but it wasn’t so quiet mid-afternoon. A thunderstorm bombarded us with torrential rains for over a half hour. Water was leaking in through the roof at five places in the house and several places in the meeting room. Daddy called during school break, and I was able to talk with him for a while, but then we got disconnected. After that, we could not get connected again, and there has been no service for the rest of the day. There has not been any e-mail service either for several days now. I was thankful for the news from Daddy that they were able to complete the installation of the Microsoft pro. Tomas was going to start the generator again at 4:00 and run it until 7:00, but the generator would not start. He tried the pull rope too, but it didn’t even kick. He had no idea what the problem is. I had just cut up a large popo and put it in the fridge, but had to take that out and make it into a popo crisp. Also had to cook up the rest of the tomato pieces so they wouldn’t spoil. Added those to the rice for my supper. Cut up, peeled and cooked a pumpkin to go with my supper too. As expected, the water was quite dirty after the rain, but there must also be some dirt clods or something blocking the line too, because there is barely a trickle coming through the pipes. Was very thankful that I had re-filled all the buckets with clean water after doing laundry yesterday. So I had clean water to use for dishes, and I put some in a basin in the bathroom for washing hands.

October 22. The day started out with clouds and fog. Late morning, the Lord brought us a little sunshine; but by mid-afternoon, we were having rain showers. Then this evening, for about an hour, we had torrential rains. Now the rains have stopped and all is quiet. All is very quiet because Daddy is not here and the generator is not running. Daddy left all of a sudden going on noon. He had just called SIL aviation earlier this a.m. to see what the flight situation was. They told him they couldn’t come and get him; but if he found a way to SIL, they could bring him back home. Not long after that, however, we heard the SIL plane and they were circling Owena and preparing to land. Daddy went up to the airstrip and asked the pilot if he could take him to SIL. Having received an affirmative answer, he hastened back to the house and packed up a few things while they were loading up the plane with coffee. A quick good-bye kiss and he was gone. Later I thought, “No generator tonight; I will have to cook up the rest of the meat and keep it in the pressure cooker. Will the rest of the stuff keep until he gets back? It depends on if he comes back tomorrow or Thursday. He called later (on Nuanda’s phone because he was getting an unavailable message when he tried to call mine) and Nuanda brought his phone here for me to talk with Daddy. Daddy said that the tech center is working on installation of Microsoft Pro 2019. They said they haven’t done a 2019 before so this is new for them. We pray that they will be able to get everything worked out. While he is out there, Daddy picked up a few things at the store as well. He mentioned that he forgot about the generator, but maybe Tomas could start it for me. Tomas came by late this afternoon. Brought a popo and wanted matches and Maggi. I didn’t need the popo, but gave him matches and Maggi. Also asked him about starting the generator tomorrow, and he said he would try. Other stuff in the fridge should keep until tomorrow. “Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:” Psalm 146:5 |
