March 20. First day of spring, but felt more like winter after the beautiful warm weather of the past couple weeks. Christy and Connie rode to church with us this morning since Cindie was too tired to go. Mrs. Surrett began a lesson today on shaping up your home management skills, dealing with the woman’s God-given role as a wife and home-maker. Pastor Ogle’s text this morning was James 1:9-12, continuing his teaching on trials and how both the poor and the rich will face trials, but both will be happy if they endure and will receive the crown of life which God has promised to them that love Him. This afternoon, I finished the letter to David and Amos and then wrote a short letter to Mike. This evening, Christy and Connie had to pick up Cindie for church, so they left early. As Daddy and I were on our way later, we received a call from Christy and Connie saying that they were stopped along the side of the highway with car trouble. We finally found them on the other side of Oak Grove Road and stopped to see what was wrong. Their front right wheel had started wobbling quite badly. Cindie climbed into our van, and we took her to church while Christy and Connie waited for AAA to take them to Chapin’s house where Jeremy will look at the car. We were late getting to church and also missed a lot of the message because of texting back and forth to C&C. What parts we did hear came from a very good message on the law - divine law and natural law - and on relativism, and so forth. After church, we followed Mary to her house where we picked up Christy and Connie. “7Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book…. 12And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be…. 20He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” Revelation 22:7,12,20

March 19. Was very thankful for a better night’s sleep last night. It was almost 7:00 before I got up this morning. It was pancake day so I made pancakes for Daddy and Christy and then added nuts to the dough to make pancakes for myself. After breakfast, Christy went to the Laundromat to do hers and Connie’s laundry while Connie did some work in her room. I took a shower and washed my hair in their bathroom since we have to wait for the electrician to come before we use our shower and tub again. When Christy got back, she hung out clothes; and then she, Connie, and Daddy went off to Towery Road to get some more things from their mobile home. While they were gone I had my quiet time, did a little crocheting, made the bed, folded yesterday’s laundry, cleaned off and reorganized the top of my dresser, and started cooking dinner - a butternut squash in the oven and rice on top of the stove. There was still a little leftover corn and chicken. When the girls got home, I put away food in the fridge and freezer that they had brought here from their other fridge. Daddy had gone off to the post office to get some more stamps and mail some letters. After lunch, we enjoyed an hour nap. This afternoon, I got a letter written to Matthew for Daddy. After supper, I washed up tons of dishes before starting a letter to David and Amos. Didn’t do much on-my-feet work today because I was hurting so much even after taking Ibuprofen. “3And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:3,4 March 17. It was such a long night. Thought I would sleep really well since I was so tired, but was awake for a long time in the early a.m. hours. After praying in bed for a long time and still not getting back to sleep, I finally decided to get up, get something to eat, and read my Bible. It was about 4:30 a.m. (or so I thought). I could hardly believe it was only 4:30. The night had been sooooo long. Had a bite to eat. Read Bible and prayed. Thought maybe then I should go back to bed for a while. It was now around 5:30 according to the stove clock. When I went back into the bedroom, Daddy was getting up. “Are you getting up already?” “Yep. It’s almost 6:30.” “6:30?” “It depends on what clock you look at.” “Is this clock not working right?” It was working right, but it had never been set ahead when daylight savings time came along. Neither had the stove clock been changed. So I didn’t go back to bed after all. It was time to begin the new day. Or continue it. Lots of work to do. More unpacking and organizing. Daddy helped me rearrange our bedroom so we could put the rocking chair in there so I would have a quiet place to sit for quiet time. We sat down and talked about some things that needed to be done and made a shopping list. Daddy went out shopping. I did the dishes, and Connie and I did more work around the house. Later in the morning, I relaxed at the computer. Cleaned some e-mails out of the inbox, got the income report up to date, started proofreading the “Lav, Mesi, Marimari” (Love, Mercy, Grace) booklet. (See picture below post) By the time our nap was over this afternoon, Christy was home from work. She helped us rearrange the living room so the furniture fits better. And then we rearranged the dining room. Then I relaxed and tickled the piano keys a little bit. It is in dire need of a tuning. It isn’t quite like my keyboard so it is going to take some getting used to. “5And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. 6And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.” Revelation 19:5,6 March 18. Was awake at 4:30 again this morning. I guess Daddy had lain awake for a while too. We both got up at 5:30. After breakfast and quiet time, we went to the Laundromat and did an extra large load of wash. Brought the wet clothes back to the house, and I hung things out to dry (Connie helped too) while Daddy went off to the stores again (this time to get slats for Connie’s bed, a lawn mower (the perfect clean air type - push tasol (only), since we have only a wee bit of lawn), envelopes for the update letters that need to be mailed, eggs, juice, and an overseas stamp. Before Daddy left, he called the landlady about the electric current coming through our water faucets in the bathtub. Mel had come with his voltmeter last night and measured 49 volts of electricity coming through. Our landlady called the electrician, but he won’t be able to come until Tuesday. After hanging clothes, I found a blanket for Connie to put on Christy’s bed, had my vitamin drink and then lay down for a nap. I was so tired, my body wouldn’t do anything else. Slept about an hour and a half. It was going on 12:30 when I got up, and Daddy was home waiting for lunch. After lunch, Daddy put the new lawn mower together and then went for a nap. I cleaned out the basket and bags of things that Martha had sent, gave Connie what she wanted, and put other things away where it seemed like a good place for them. Later I started addressing envelopes until it dawned on me that that was a good job for Connie to do. She finished the job, and Daddy and I rearranged the office because the sun was too bright for my eyes with the computer desk under the window. After resting a bit, Daddy and I went out and brought in the clothes. After supper, I wrote several thank you notes. “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.” Revelation 20:6 March 16. Up before 6:00 this morning. At 6:30, we had breakfast, and Martha came over to eat with us. We took a few pictures, said our good-byes, and then headed out for NC a little before 7:30. It was a beautiful day. The white and pink flowering trees were so pretty. I wanted to get some pictures, but we were moving too fast. I was hoping there would be some whenever we made a rest stop or fuel or food stop, but there weren’t. As we got closer to home, there were a lot of trees already getting green leaves, and others with just buds. Lots of pollen in the air. Stopped at Cracker Barrel in Mebane (near Burlington) for lunch. Enjoyed a good lunch, and our server Melanie was a very pleasant young lady. It was almost 4:00 before we arrived back in Shelby. I was good and ready for a shower before going off to church in the evening. That proved to be a very electrifying experience, however. Connie told us when we got back that she couldn’t touch the metal shower fixtures in our shower without getting zapped. “No way,” I said. “We never had any such problem.” Something happened, however, between the time I took my shower on Saturday morning before we left and the time Connie took hers in the afternoon after moving in here. Somehow electric current is coming through the water faucets and other parts of the shower, and once I was standing in the water in the shower and touched any of those parts, I received quite a shock. Yes, it did hurt. So that needs to be investigated. (Thank the Lord, we were able to get that fixed.) Was very tired this evening so Daddy and I came right home after the meeting. Connie had to wait for Christy and then they took Cindie home before coming back home. “27And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me. 28And he left all, rose up, and followed him.” Luke 5:27,28 March 14. Didn’t feel quite as tired last night so didn’t go to bed until around 10:00. Was awake well before 6:00, however. My back wasn’t letting me sleep. Finally got up just about 6:00, got washed up, and got dressed. Went downstairs and had quiet time and breakfast. It was still quiet down there as the Clarks weren’t down yet. They had had a call from Nathan (friend and brother in Christ) so were talking with him for quite a while. Around 8:30 we headed for Bro. Snyder’s place. Stopped at a gas station first, and Bro. Clark filled our tank with gas. Bro. Snyder lives in an assisted living place. He was so happy to see us. We enjoyed a good visit with him. His mind isn’t real good, but he is still able to do carpentry, his trade for many years. He has made just about all the furniture they ever had. His specialty was building kitchens and he used to make hundreds of thousands of dollars building kitchens for millionaires. There is a workshop there at the assisted living place where he spends a lot of time. That is his therapy. He helps repair things for the home there and also makes things that he sells. He says his hands still know how to work even though his mind doesn’t work good. He had trophies all over his walls of animals he had hunted in different parts of the world – deer, moose, longhorn sheep, angora goat, and many others. We had Bro. Clark take a picture of Daddy and me with Bro. Snyder. Then Bro. Clark led us to 295 which took us to 64 and on our way to Newport News to see Martha, Lewis’ sister. Arrived at Martha’s around noon. Spent some time catching up on family news. Had a little lunch. Then went over to Jan’s house for a nap. For some reason I was really tired again today. Could not make myself wake up. Slept for an hour and a half. Then we went back to Martha’s for a short time before coming back to Jan’s for supper -- chicken, mashed potatoes, spinach salad, green beans, cranberry sauce, with apple pie for dessert. Enjoyed sitting around talking with Jan and Martha in the evening. “And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.” Luke 3:6 March 15. Was up around 7:00 this morning for shower and quiet time. It was about 8:30 when we sat down to breakfast. Jan had fixed waffles which I enjoyed with strawberries and bananas and boysenberry syrup. About mid-morning, we went over to Martha’s. And a little while after that Jan’s sister Lola came and we went off to shop at the Goodwill discount shop. In that place everything (almost) is sold by the pound, but you have to pick through the bins to find what you may want. Things that have been in the retail Goodwill for a while but haven’t been bought are taken over to the discount room and sold there. We ended up with two shopping carts full of things. Then there are all the things that Martha gave us so our car is full of stuff to find a place for when we get home. Had just a bowl of soup for lunch after we got back to Martha’s. Then Martha put me to sleep on her bed. I had no idea that I had slept so long; but when I got up, it was already 4:00. I went down to the car and got my crocheting so I would have something to do while I was sitting there talking. Somewhere around 6:00, we had supper -- baked salmon, sweet potato, spinach. “These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.” March 12. It was so nice to sleep in our own bed and own room last night. Got up about 5:45 this morning to get ready for our trip – do last minute packing, wash dishes that I was too tired to wash last night, eat breakfast. Left the house around 7:35, expecting to arrive at our destination around 3:30 or 4:00. Made a half hour stop for lunch at Subway a little after 12 noon about four miles into Virginia, and arrived at the Clark’s home area around 2:00. Since we were so early, however, we didn’t stop at the house right away, but went on up the road and found a couple places to stop. Looked around Dollar General but didn’t find much other than a little notebook to use in the car for our travel log. Then we went back to a thrift store we had seen on the way. There I found a bag for my crocheting, a black/gray sweater, a red dress. The big bag actually had another little bag inside it which wasn’t supposed to be there, but they gave me the two of them together for the one price. After that, we went back to Cascade Creek where the Clark’s live. Visited a little bit with them before freshening up and going off to Olive Garden in Short Pump to meet the Jessups for supper. We had to wait quite a while for our meal and the waiter kept coming out and apologizing. He didn’t really say what happened, but said he didn’t feel good about something and wanted to bring all our meals at the same time so we could all start eating together. Finally the manager came out and talked with us too and apologized for the problem. Not only that, he said that our meals for the evening were on the house (about $90 worth) and also gave Bro. Clark a gift card for future meals. We enjoyed a good evening of fellowship with the Jessups and Clarks. By the time we got back to the house, I was really tired. Even though it was only 7:45 (8:45 with daylight savings time coming on overnight), I said good-night and headed for bed. “77To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, 78Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, 79To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” Luke 1:77-79 March 13. Even though I went to bed early, I didn’t get up until 7:00 this morning. By the time I had showered, and had quiet time and breakfast, it was about time to head for church. When we arrived, we set up our display and stood around to talk to people before Sunday school. Daddy taught the adult class covering some of the “Why’s” of missionary work. Bro. Jessup preached from II Corinthians 4 in the main service, emphasizing the phrase “we faint not.” It was an excellent, thought-provoking message. By the time we got back to the house, it was already 3:00 or so. After about an hour nap, it was time to get ready to go back again to the church. They needed to set up for the fellowship which would follow the evening service. This evening, we showed our presentation, but had to change the pictures manually and read the script. It was hard to keep up with clicking and reading at the same time so a few times one or the other got behind. Following the slide show, Daddy preached on the missions miracle from John 6. It went along well with Bro. Jessup’s morning message. We enjoyed a good time of fellowship afterward, and we are thankful for a good day of fellowship and feasting on the Word today. “3And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. 4Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.” Revelation 15:3,4 March 9. Almost 10:00 p.m. Just got back from church around 9:30. Went through SC to get gas on the way home from church. We sang happy songs at the beginning of the service, but [a special need a church member shared] and Pastor Ogle’s teaching were both very sobering. Pastor Ogle preached from Genesis chapter 34 – “exposing your family to the world has devastating consequences. You must be careful how much or to what extent you expose yourself to the world.” I was happy to see "A" tonight and give her a hug. It had been some time since I had seen her. How I pray for that sweet young girl! Today Daddy helped with some things around the house – attaching the mirror to the back of my dresser, putting up the clothesline, putting up curtain rods in the living room. He also went out to get the oil changed in the car at WalMart, a couple more photos made at Walgreens, and some clothespins at Dollar General. I helped Daddy where needed with the house jobs today. Talked with my sister for quite a while this morning. Got our ministry update written. Finished putting our display board together except for a printout with statistics about PNG which I hope to do tomorrow. “And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.” Mark 14:36 March 10. A warm day, but cloudy this morning, We were thankful for sunshine later as there were lots of clothes to hang out to dry. After breakfast and quiet time, I transferred some photos to the computer so I could send them to Connie via e-mail when we went to their house. Then we loaded the hamper full of dirty clothes plus a plastic bag full, laundry detergent, laundry basket, and computer into the van and headed for Lattimore. While the clothes were washing, I got journal notes ready to send to Connie’s computer along with some pictures. Daddy loaded up the van with some of the girls’ boxes of belongings, spent some time on the internet on Christy’s computer, and took apart Christy’s bed frame to bring over here to the house for Connie. It was going on 11:00 when we got back. Daddy unloaded the van and got ready to go out shopping again. Seems like there is always something we need. I started hanging up the clothes until I ran out of clothespins so he had to run to Dollar General to get another pack of clothespins. After he got back from getting the clothespins, he decided we would go to Subway for lunch. When we came back here, I had a nap, and he went off to do the other errands - getting extra towels at K-mart (they are on sale this week), going to Sears to order a washer and dryer, and to WalMart to see if the shower caddy we had ordered was in. It was – praise the Lord! Washer and drier won’t be here for two weeks – none left in their Atlanta warehouse. This afternoon, I got all the ministry updates done and printed out to be mailed with prayer cards. We don’t have any envelopes or stamps so we’ll leave those letters for Christy to take care of while we’re gone. Then I printed out some PNG and Owena statistics to go on the display board. Now the display board is complete. That done, I washed and peeled the rest of the potatoes for our supper. They were getting rather soft so needed to be used up. After supper, Daddy and I went through all the curios, brochures, etc. and filled a box with things we hope to set up on our display table. Put all the extra things away in our bedroom closet. Then I made some herb tea before printing out a copy of the “Lav, Mesi, Marimari” (Love, Mercy,l Grace) book. That also will go on our display table along with some other translated material. “And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.” Oh, that I might be willing to please my Lord far above pleasing people. March 11. Before eating breakfast this morning, I washed up the dishes since I hadn’t had time to do that yesterday evening. Then we busied ourselves deciding what to pack for our trip tomorrow. As we did, we realized that since Mel gave us a rack to hang our clothes on in the car, we won’t need to take a big suitcase. So later in the morning, we made a quick trip down to the thrift store to find a little suitcase. Praise the Lord for a nice little suitcase just the right size for $5. Came back home and packed things in the little suitcase. By then it was lunch time so I warmed up the leftover mashed potatoes and cooked a package of frozen veggie medley. Nap time next. Hooray! “Let’s see if they deliver our mattresses while we’re taking our nap.” We had barely lain down 15 minutes, and I had just gotten into a good sleep when FedEx pulled up. So up we got. Ours and Christy’s mattresses and bed frames came today. Daddy and I busied ourselves putting the two beds together. Then we made our bed up and lay down for a nap on a real bed. Praise the Lord for a bed! Still waiting for Connie’s bed. (Praise the Lord for It’s arrival while we were gone on our trip!) After nap, I cut Daddy’s hair. It was way past due. Glad to have that done. Time to sit down and rest a while until supper time. Printed out a crochet pattern than I had downloaded a while ago. Will take that with me to work on while we’re traveling. “15And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature…. 20And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.” Mark 16:15,20 Obedience! March 7. The Lord gave us a lovely, spring day today. Tried to do a little organizing around the house this morning. Then about mid-morning, we went over to the apartment and gathered up the rest of our belongings. Also did up the few dishes that were sitting there and got up e-mails, and Daddy checked a couple things on internet. Then we went hunting around for washer and dryer. Found best price at Sears, but it needs to be ordered and would not be here until next week Friday. Daddy also checked with Mel to see if he might know where we could get a good washer and dryer. He is going to check around. It was well after 12:00 noon by then so we went and had lunch at Subway in WalMart. Next stop was Lowes to look for a few things, but all we found were some metal brackets for attaching the mirror to the dresser. After that, it was Office Depot/Max where we got a printer, cables, shiny paper, and flash drive. Looked for some coffee mugs in a couple stores and finally found some at Dollar General. By the time we got home, it was after 3:00. Did not take a nap today. Cleaned off part of my desk and reorganized so we could set up the printer. That took a good while. Christy had been out shopping and came by with a list of heavy items they are going to have brought over here. Mel will try to find some helpers to move their heavy things on Saturday. While the printer was charging itself up, I put away some more papers and started moving things out of the north end of this room so it will be ready for the furniture that will come in there on Saturday. It was going on 6:00 before we had supper - salad and leftover spaghetti. Then I helped Daddy put his office chair together, did the dishes, washed out the shelves over the stove, and unpacked and rearranged some things to go on those shelves. Little by little things are coming together. “9After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;10And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. 11And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, 12Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen. 13And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? 14And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. 16They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. 17For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.” Revelation 7:9-17 March 8. What a lovely, warm day today! Thank you, Lord. It was so nice to have windows and doors open and let in the fresh air. It was a stay-at-home day for me. I thank the Lord for His help and strength in getting a good bit done – unpacking a number of things and putting things away; fixing pictures to have printed for our display and bordering part of the display board with red duct tape because the red glitter tape didn’t hold; taking apart the bed frame in our room to make room for the steel bed frame that will come with our bed; sweeping floors (Daddy swept the living room, and I the kitchen); putting up a net “doorway” that Connie sent over since there is no screen door out back off the kitchen. The netting just had sticky pieces that were supposed to hold it in place, but it didn’t hold. Daddy had to nail it up. Daddy went out a couple times, looking for some things we needed - strong clothesline, nails, etc. Also had pictures printed for the display. I did take a nap today, or part of one anyway. Was in a sound sleep, when I suddenly heard the front door opening. Thinking it was Daddy, I said, “Are you back already?” Then I looked, and it wasn’t Daddy at all. “Oh,” I said, “it’s Christy.” Christy thought we weren’t here. She was on her way home from work and came to drop off some boxes. So that was the end of my nap. “21And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not: 22For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. 23But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.” Mark 13:21-23 |
