This particular Sunday held some difficult moments that I wasn't able to include in the journal notes. Please pray for Mom and Dad as they deal with some challenging things in the ministry. Thanks. June 28. Woke up about 5:30 to the sound of rain, and kept thinking, “I hope Daddy gets up soon and starts a fire.” But he never did. Must have been still half or more asleep as the next thing I knew it was 6:30. Didn’t even hear the lotu bell ring down below. It rained off and on all morning, although no heavy rain, and thick fog hung around everywhere. The fog had finally lifted by the time I got up from nap, but there were still heavy rain clouds hanging on the mountains and above. I’m thankful today wasn’t the day for Daddy to come home. He never would have been able to get here. The first one to knock on the door this morning was Amos. He wanted to find out how I was doing. After that, I got my breakfast. Had my Sunday tea drinks and then just made oatmeal since I had had pancakes the past couple days. Had quiet time, made the bed, put my signature on the painting of Daddy and fixed up a frame for it, put the picture in the frame and hung it right above my craft desk. After that, I did some walking. Then sat down at the computer to finish the journal notes file I had started last night. A little bit past noon, Midyu came to the door. He thought Daddy was here and he wanted to know what was going on in the church and have Daddy give him some Bible verses. I still had a hard time sleeping at nap time, but I did at least get some rest. After nap, I wrote in my journal and then listened to a message on flash drive, one by Pastor Weiss on the Virtuous Woman, but making application to Christ’s bride, the church. Afterward I worked on Revelation until the computer needed charging. Put it on to charge and got another picture ready to start painting. After bath this evening, I worked on the Revelation lessons until time for Daddy to call. I was so happy to have that time to talk together. The Lord sent us more rain this evening too.

June 26. Cold this morning, but the sun was shining, the sky was blue, and there were just a few white puffy clouds. However, the morning stayed cool again, and the winds were strong and chilly. It was past noon again before I ever took my sweatshirt off today. Made a few pancakes for my breakfast this morning. After breakfast and quiet time, I hand washed a couple small loads, enjoying more time for prayer while I was doing so. It was a joy to get out in the fresh air and sunshine to hang the clothes out. Afterward I worked on studies in Revelation and completed the lesson on chapter 4. Brought some of the clothes in and had dinner. Then I brought in the rest of the clothes, hanging just a handful of almost-dry items in the schoolroom. After nap, I painted for a couple hours, trying to perfect the painting a bit. Maybe I’ll be able to finish it tomorrow. Then I started adding questions to the Revelation lesson I had just finished. Always look forward to the evening chat with Daddy, but looking forward even more to his return home. Then I finished up the questions to go with the Revelation lesson. June 27. As I was brushing my teeth last night, I looked out the window and saw a very bright, large, yellow-orange crescent moon in the western sky. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a crescent moon that big. There were stars above too, and the sky was still bright with stars at 3:45 a.m. I could feel that the air had turned cold, and it was 55º again this morning with mostly clear blue skies, not a bit of fog to be seen, but the mountain tops could be clearly seen miles away. Cut a piece of popo and cooked it to go on my two pancakes for breakfast. After quiet time, I took the two lap blankets out and hung them in the sunshine. I hung around out there myself and soaked up some of that nice sun. It was so cold in the house. When I went back inside, I put a clean sheet on the bed and made the bed up. Then I started doing some walking, but soon there was a knock on the door. Sunny and Lilian had come to visit for a while. I had them come in and eat bananas and we talked some more. After they left I finished my walking. Then worked on MTP lessons at the computer. Enjoying the study of the Lamb that was slain and was worthy to open the seven seals of the book of judgments. This afternoon, I washed my hair and then finished the painting I’d been working on. Now it will need to be trimmed and framed. It was a fun project. When I finished cleaning everything up, it was nearly 5:00 so I went ahead and had a bowl of fruit for the first course of my supper. Then fixed an avocado for my sandwich. I was glad I started washing dishes early because there were several knocks on the door before I got done. Only had a short time left after that before my favorite person called to chat for a while. Afterward, I had my sponge bath and then a snack. Also transferred pictures to the computer and charged the camera battery this evening. June 24. A little bit colder this morning so I started the fire in the wood stove, but it really troubled my eyes so maybe I’ll just leave the fire alone and just dress warmer on the colder mornings. Judy came this morning to see if there was any work to do so I had her prepare the greens that Apekio brought yesterday, and shell the peanuts that Sunny and Tonka had brought earlier. I was going to have Sunny do that as I thought she was going to come with greens yesterday, but she didn’t so don’t know when she will come again. While Judy was working, I got all the verses into a file that Daddy wants whenever he has the opportunity to preach at Liberty. After Judy left, I went outside in the sunshine for a few minutes. Then I cut a piece of linoleum to fit across a section of the wall above the kitchen sink, glued it, and tacked it into place, something I’ve wanted to do for a good while so it will be easier to clean if something gets spattered there. Most of the afternoon, after nap, I worked on painting. I must have looked at the clock wrong because I thought it said quarter to four, and the next thing I knew it was going on 5:30. Oh, dear. Hurry and clean up the mess and get supper. Put bath water on while I was eating so I could take bath right away when I was done and be ready for Daddy’s call. It was so good to talk, but I’m a bit sad that he won’t be able to come home until next week Tuesday. “22It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. 24The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. 25The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. 26It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.” Lamentations 3:22-26 Praise God for His mercies, for His compassions that do not fail and are new every morning, for His great faithfulness. Thank you, LORD for being my portion, my hope, for being good to those that wait for you and seek you. Help me to hope and quietly wait for your salvation. June 25. A very damp and chilly morning with high cloud cover and light, early morning rain. Periods of sunshine later in the morning, so I hung a couple blankets out in the sunshine and fresh air. I didn’t stay out to enjoy the sunshine today as there was quite a cool breeze blowing. It was past noon today before I even took my sweatshirt off. After breakfast and quiet time, I did some walking and then busied myself sorting out receipts and putting away the 2019 receipts, then getting Daddy’s desktop cleaned up. Had some sit-down time and worked on the next Revelation lesson. When my eyes got tired, I cleaned and organized the shelves in the tall cupboard and the shelves in the pantry so they are ready to put food away that Daddy will bring home. Also used some scrap pieces of plywood to nail to the upper food shelf in the pantry so bottles and things won’t be leaning or falling over. By the time I finished all that, it was 12:45 so quickly got leftovers warming up for dinner. It was 1:30 before I lay down for nap and 2:45 when I got up. After having a drink, I got ready to paint. Next thing I knew it was past 4:30. Needed to make some tortillas for my supper so hurried and cleaned up the painting stuff and started making the tortillas. It was 6:00 before I finally got to eat. Put dish water on to heat while I was eating so I could do the dishes right away. Finished dishes around 6:45. Sat down to relax and have a little time for prayer before Daddy called. It was so good to have someone to talk with after a long, lonely day. After that, I heated a little water and had a sponge bath. Then worked on the Revelation lesson until bedtime. “39Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins? 40Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD. 41Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.” Lamentations 3:39-41 Praise God, there is a remedy for sin and there is forgiveness. June 22. Last night, after the Lenovo was charged, I turned it on for a while to see what can be done with it. To my great surprise and delight, all the files that I thought had been removed are still in the computer. I have lots of picture files in there so spent about a half hour looking through all the pictures. When I got up this morning, the temperature was the same as it was at 5:00 yesterday afternoon—60º. And the same as it was when I went to bed last night—60º. And the same as it was in the middle of the night—60º. So I didn’t light a fire in the woodstove. I thought, if it gets cloudy and rainy again this afternoon with cold winds, I’ll light the fire in the afternoon. (I wished I had had the wood stove going the last couple evenings.) However, I never needed to light the fire. The day stayed warm, and it was even warm into the evening. After breakfast and quiet time this morning, I got busy doing more spring cleaning, concentrating mostly on the office today. Then I went outside in the sunshine for a while and trimmed dead leaves and dead stems off some flower plants. Worked at computer for the rest of the morning, adding questions to lesson 10 of the Revelation studies. This afternoon, I did a little bit of painting and cleaned the bathroom sink and toilet. Then I finished up the questions for the Revelation lesson and started on another lesson on the qualifications of pastors. This evening, after a nice chat with Daddy, I decided to start a new Revelation file as there was already 100 pages in the original file, and that seemed to be causing slow progress on further work. Transferred chapter 10 to the new file as that begins a new section of study. When I got too tired to do more computer work, I worked on crocheting before bedtime. “…Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.” Mark 10:14 June 23. The night was warm, and it only got down to 58º overnight. I didn’t start a fire, but guess I could have, as the fog and clouds hung around for a long time, and it didn’t warm up to above 70º outside until mid-morning. But I kept busy so was warm enough. First thing after breakfast and quiet time, I started hand-washing a load of clothes. Mark and his family came early with firewood so I went out to greet them. While I was out there, Betty and Timothy came by so was able to check with Timothy about the items he wants Daddy to get for him in town. Other people came to the door so the wash didn’t get done too quickly. Nuanda brought back the Hebrew New Testament he had borrowed. He said that the church has decided to support the printing of the Hebrew New Testament as well as to be prepared to support any members that go out as missionaries. He said he counted about 350 adults at the missions conference. He did not count the children. And there were eleven people saved. He was quite pleased and excited about the results of the meetings. One of Matthew’s girls came to the door with avocados to sell. I was thankful to get something else nutritious to eat. Also put the computer on to charge as the battery had gone fairly low last night. Finally got the wash finished and hung out. Said good morning to Severah’s two boys as they went by. Then I came in and had a cup of coffee and a snack before sitting down at the computer. Around 10:30, I went to the kitchen to prepare some kaukau and pumpkin for dinner. Was nearly done when I heard little sounds of rain on the roof. Oh, oh! I hurried outside and brought in the clothes that were on the line. Set them in the schoolroom until I had gotten the pumpkin and kaukau into the oven. Then went and hung up the clothes in the schoolroom. Spent some time after that on the lessons on church leadership until dinner was ready. After nap, my time was spent painting until almost 5:00. It’s so easy to get so absorbed in painting that one doesn’t realize how fast the time is passing. This evening, I did a little more work on the elder/deacon lessons, spent about 45 minutes talking with my best friend via phone (that is, Daddy who was in town shopping), listened to a music CD while I was crocheting. May 29. There was no sleep to be had the first part of the night. As soon as the lights were out and we were in bed, Mr. Rat was back with renewed energy. The first time I got up, I scared him away from the storage closet again. Didn’t know what he was chewing on, but put the vinegar up there again. Back to bed. Try to get some sleep now. No way! The second time, he was chewing away over in the corner near the tall cupboard. I didn’t take time to see what he was chewing on, but I moved the vinegar over there. Back to bed again to try to sleep, but Mr. Rat wasn’t going to allow that. The third time, he was back in the storage closet. This time Daddy got up, too. Rattie had been working at chewing the bottle cap off the sunflower oil, and had gotten quite a bit chewed off around the edges. Okay, put everything with plastic lids into the tall cupboard. Then Daddy put more rat poison out, and also decided to try putting out the glue trap on the shelf where the oil had been. Back to bed again. Try to get to sleep. Soon there was a racket in the storage closet again, but this time it was not a chewing sound. It was the sound of struggling. Yes, the rat was stuck to the glue, and had fallen to the floor in the glue trap. Daddy got up, grabbed a piece of firewood, clobbered the glue trap with the rat under it, uprighted the trap, and finished off the terrorizer. Praise the Lord, we were finally able to get some sleep after that. Very tired today, and slept a long nap this afternoon. Ears and throat are hurting a lot too. After school, I sent a note with Dallas to Nason to see if he could help with some amoxicillin as I have been fighting this for several weeks, and last night it got a lot worse. This evening, Nason came by with a bottle of amoxicillin, and some Panadol too. Had been taking everything else I could think of, but it just wasn’t killing it off. May 30. Was thankful for a good night’s rest last night even though my throat and ears were still hurting. Slept in a bit late this morning and did not go out to the meeting room for lotu. Was very thankful for Sunny’s help after lotu—washing and hanging out clothes, sweeping floors, burning the trash, and refilling the water buckets. While she was working I tried to send C&C’s e-mail, but couldn’t get a connection. Proofread the I Thessalonians outline so it is ready for printing for Daddy to use in his outline class, and then I finished setting up I Thessalonians through Hebrews in another file for Daddy and me to proofread as we are nearly done with James through Jude. Wan came, and then went with Daddy for a walk down to Wanyapeq and back. Sunny had just left when he returned. There was lots of other work to do after that. A meal had to be prepared—carrots (from Marivo) and fish patties today for a little variety. We had forgotten about bread so as soon as dinner was over, I got the bread made up while Daddy went out and took down the clothes. After I set the bread in the pans to rise, I put the dinner leftovers away and cleaned up the table. Was so thankful for a nap. When I got up, the bread was ready to be baked. Lit the oven and then cleaned dishes out of the sink (the fish patties dish and bread mixing dish) while the oven was warming up. Stuck the bread in the oven and also put eggs on to boil for supper. Fixed a fruit snack and ate it while the eggs were boiling. Lots of dishes to do this evening.. Did some printing, too, of lessons that will be needed this coming week for school. Then punched holes and added those lessons to the students’ notebooks. “2Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is his name; 3Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” Jeremiah 33:2,3 May 27. Judy came early and did laundry this morning. Praise the Lord for a lovely morning for drying the clothes and for opportunity to get outside later in the morning to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Most of my computer time today was spent trying to finish up the next Revelation lesson. Praise the Lord, I did finish the section on the great awakenings and revivals. Next I’ll be going into the section on the missions era of the 1800’s. Mike said today that Taqita now wants to have lessons of her own so looks like more printing will need to be done. We have been praying diligently for the ink, paper, and printers to hold out until Daddy can get to town, and until we can get a new printer. “17Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: 18Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is his name, 19Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings: 20Which hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day, and in Israel, and among other men; and hast made thee a name, as at this day.” (Jeremiah 32:17-20) May 28. Had a little break from school today as the students went with a group who carried coffee to Konkonbira to sell. I spent a good many hours during the daytime working on the GMS files, particularly trying to get the outreach files and pictures in order. Most of the evening was given to printing papers for Taqita to have her own class material. Was kept awake quite a bit last night by loud chewing sounds. Mr. Rat was busy somewhere. When my flashlight shone on the soap at the bathroom sink, I knew he had been here. The soap had been moved several inches away from the edge of the sink, and there were teeth marks in one corner. I put the soap into the bathtub because he can’t get into the tub; or if he should, he probably wouldn’t be able to get out. Later I heard more chewing coming from the storage closet. There I found a mess where he had been chewing on the plastic lid on a jar of peanuts. Put a dish of vinegar up there. We didn’t hear him again except for when he knocked the plastic glass from the edge of the bathtub into the bathtub. Today, I moved all the peanut jars with plastic lids into the tall cupboard. “26Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying, 27Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?” Jeremiah 32:26,27 May 25. Praise the Lord for a little rain this morning. The weather the past two weeks has been quite dry although it has not been too hot. There have been strong, cold winds to keep the temperatures moderate. Dallas and Mike were fairly late for school this morning. Dallas’s watch was slow, and Mike is still not feeling very well. Everyone did well in school, however, and the men are really improving in their outreach presentations. Before supper, I started making some banana muffins so I could have some healthy evening snacks besides oatmeal and other cereal. Didn’t get to finish them until after supper, however, as there were several interruptions. Used fresh grated ginger root and grated lemon rind to flavor them and added some yummy chopped pecans, too, to add to the flavor and texture of the muffins. Enjoyed a couple of them for snack this evening. When I looked at my birthday list this afternoon, I saw that Judy Jevin’s birthday had passed by yesterday so I’ll need to get a little something together to send down to her. I don’t know if she even realizes that it was her birthday, but I would still like to give her something. “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” Jeremiah 31:3 Thank you, Lord, for your everlasting love and lovingkindness. May 26. This afternoon, the Lord sent us thunderstorms, the first good rain we have had in two or three weeks. We thank the Lord for watering the thirsty ground and the people’s gardens. This evening, Nuanda came to visit with Daddy a while. Their church has decided that they want Daddy to come and preach to them in a few weeks. They felt that, while he still may have enough strength to go down to the village, they want to hear him preach one more time. They will have him preach once a day on missions from the 16th to the 21st of June. (Sadly, this ended up not happening because this was the only dates that Dad could get a flight out to town to buy supplies. But the church was able to have its missions conference anyway, and that is exciting.) |
