September 24. Awake before 6:00 this morning. Up to take shower and wash hair. Off to church around 9:20. Mrs. Surrett was there to teach Sunday school today. Her lesson in Proverbs gave three admonitions from chapter 1—forsake not, v.8; consent not, v.10; walk not, v.15. Mrs. Ogle wasn’t there because her daughter Hannah just gave birth to a baby girl so Mrs. Ogle was off helping look after the grandchildren. In the main meeting, Pastor Ogle preached a challenging message on “A Philosophy of Missions” from Luke 10:1-20. This evening, we visited Calvary’s Cross Independent Baptist Church in Polkville, Pastor Billy Boone. The Pastor gave time for me to sing John 3:16 in the Owena language and for Daddy to present our ministry. Then the pastor preached an encouraging message from Psalm 56 on praising God’s word.

September 22. First day of autumn. Before I finished breakfast and quiet time this morning, I put the clothes in to wash. When the wash was done and out on the line, I printed out copies of the newsletter to be mailed to supporters who get them by USPS. Printed out envelopes to go with them and left all that with Connie to fold letters, stuff and seal envelopes, and put stamps on. Then Daddy and I left to finish the shopping we didn’t get done yesterday — GNC for a couple supplements for Connie, Aldi for just four items, and the meat market for a roast for Tuesday when our company comes. Found some "Honest" mango flavored lemonade so got one of those to try. Picked up a pack of juice drinks to give the Ching kids on Tuesday. Saw that they had more mixes for those delicious Annie’s double chocolate brownies so picked up several boxes of those. We were gone just a little over an hour. After getting food put away, I worked on getting the newsletter printed to pdf. It turned out to be 17.5MB. Whoa! Why so big? Well, we’d better try to fix that. First I resized the full-page picture of a letter that was on page two and re-saved page 2 as a jpg picture. Then made a new publisher file using the jpg pictures of the newsletter pages. Then I made a pdf file from the new publisher file. Less than 1 MB now, praise the Lord! Sent the new publisher and pdf files off to Christy and then whipped up the rest of the soup so Daddy and I could have lunch. “13And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. 14And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.” Genesis 22:13,14 Jehovahjireh means “Jehovah will see, or Jehovah will provide.” Abraham obeyed the Lord and lay upon the altar that thing which was dearest to his heart. Abraham pleased God because He believed God; and God provided a substitute for Isaac, in a type, raising up Isaac from the dead. “God, in the greatest difficulties, when all human assistance is vain, will make a suitable provision for the deliverance of those who trust in Him.” -TSK “17By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, 18Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: 19Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.” Hebrews 11:17-19 September 23. Overslept this morning. Didn’t wake up until 6:45. Hurried and took my shower and got ready for the day. After breakfast and quiet time, I went outside while the morning was still somewhat cool. Swept off the front porch, steps, and walk. Daddy shoveled off the tops of the anthills, and I sprayed the ants. After that, I was ready to sit down a while. Answered an e-mail, swept our bedroom floor, and then got some boxes that were in the living room ready to be taken out to the shed. There were boxes behind and beside the recliner that we put into plastic bags (because water leaks into the shed), and then Daddy took them out to the shed. Also swept the section of the floor where the boxes had been before moving the recliner back closer to the wall. My body just needed to sit down the rest of the morning. Wrote another e-mail and then had lunch. Enjoyed a nice nap, and then made sweet potato soup for my lunches this coming week. Also made goulash for Daddy and cooked a zucchini/mushroom medley for my supper. All that pretty well filled up the afternoon. This evening, I relaxed and did some crocheting on the scarf I am working on. I also did some “un-crocheting” because I goofed a couple rows back, and then started on the re-crocheting but didn’t get to where I was before because I needed to get up and move around a bit. “And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.” II Chronicles 14:11 A wonderful verse of encouragement this morning. Compare Isaiah 40:29-31, 29He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” September 20. A lot warmer today, although it was nice and cool out this morning. I really wanted to go for a walk, but needed to do some packing and get our bedroom better organized. So after looking through the Ingles ad and doing a couple other small jobs, I got right at the packing. Put a few things in the foot locker, but need to get the pictures down off the wall in the living room, and get the four pictures off the bookshelf in there, so I can pack those in the foot locker. Any other breakable items can go in there too. Not sure what else we have that’s breakable. Then I finished filling in spaces in a large box that was nearly full, got another large box nearly packed, and packed a bucket. I’m thankful that our bedroom doesn’t look so cluttered and overflowing with stuff now. This evening at church, a picture of a missionary family was handed out to each group that prayed together. Then Pastor Ogle shared some areas in which a missionary would have need of prayer, with some Scriptures to go with each point; and we prayed specifically about that need for our missionaries after each point was brought out. It was a good evening of prayer for our missionaries. “And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.” Genesis 22:8 Abraham believed that God would provide Himself a sacrifice for sin. And, praise God, He did! “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” John 1:29 “18Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.” I Peter 1:18-20 September 21. Shopping day. We wanted to get an early start because we figured there would be a crowd at Lidl’s for their grand opening morning. So we left here around 8:45, thinking they opened at 9:00. Apparently they opened at 8:00, however. The parking lot was already full when we arrived, and people were coming out with their purchases. We were thankful to find a parking space right in front of the store. It’s a nice store and definitely bigger than Aldi. Had a large selection of produce. It took us about an hour to get through the whole store, up and down each aisle, checking out what was available. We did buy a few things that we had on our shopping list. We saw that things that are also available at Aldi were priced just a bit lower than Aldi. Our next stop was WalMart. By the time we finished at Lidl, my legs would hardly move so at WalMart, I used the electric cart. I was certainly thankful that was available. By the time we finished our WalMart shopping, we were both tired so headed home. It was 11:00. Put food away and rested a while. Had lunch. Started working on an MTC (Missionary Training Course) lesson. Had nap. Finished the MTC lesson this afternoon. This evening, I rehearsed the timings on the little desktop slide show I had done, and set it up for continuous looping. “And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.” Genesis 22:12 We may say that we fear God, but unless we are willing to lay our all upon the altar, it cannot be known that we truly fear God. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.” Psalm 111:10 “Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.” James 2:18 September 18. Around 9:30 this morning, Daddy and I went out to Ollies in Gastonia to get a couple infrared heaters and a couple salt lamps. Arrived back home around 11:00 and then got busy making my weekly soup — potato soup this time. It wasn’t ready in time for lunch, but I was thankful to have it for supper. While it was cooking, I printed out the letter we had worked on yesterday, and Daddy and I each proofread it. I also replied to another email. Then I got last week’s journal notes ready and sent them off to Connie. This evening, I worked on some slides for at least a desktop presentation at our display table. “And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.” Genesis 22:3 Although the test God gave Abraham was so difficult, Abraham obeyed without hesitation or question. “I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments.” Psalm 119:60 Abraham had complete trust in God. “3Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. 4Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.” Isaiah 26:3,4 September 19. Today must have been labor day. First we washed and hung out clothes. Then Daddy went off to the stores to get a few items we had run out of and to purchase some tools and things at Harbor Freight. While he was gone, I worked at writing a letter and then labored over cleaning the tub, toilet, and bathroom sink. By the time I finished that, I was a little worn out. I was hoping to do more cleaning or packing today, but my strength was already used up. So this afternoon, I did more mental labor and got a quarterly newsletter written. This evening, I worked a bit more on the desktop slide show. And later this evening I finished the American flag afghan. (See picture above) Praise God for His help with that project. “And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.” Genesis 22:5 Abraham was completely confident that God would give back to him that which he willingly gave to God. He said “I and the lad will….come again to you.” We too can trust God that He will take what we willingly give Him and will give back to us in a way that we could never imagine. “3Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 4Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.” Psalm 37:3-5 Mom has completed chapter 14 of her book, The Isles Are Singing. If you enjoy language learning and linguistics, you will probably enjoy reading through this chapter.
September 17. The Surretts were away today, and Mrs. Ogle taught a lesson on “Choose to Talk with God.” Pastor Ogle’s message this morning was on Grace Giving from II Corinthians chapters 8 and 9. This afternoon, I started working on an important letter. This evening, we went out to Victory Baptist Church in Lattimore again. Enjoyed the fellowship and the preaching there. Pastor Reeise preached on Trusting the Lord, with Psalm 118:4-9 as his text, particularly verses 8 and 9. September 15. It was a long night. I did not sleep well at all. Sinuses got all stuffed up, and I could not get comfortable. Breathing became labored, and I could not relax for quite a while. Then I got hungry and was getting a headache. Was thankful to finally doze off a few times between 4:30 and 6:00. Had to get up at 6:00 though because there were things to do this morning before going off to KM — shower and wash hair, have quiet time and breakfast, wash and hang out clothes. Made a stop afterward at Neighborhood WalMart and then Daddy headed on down to SC for gas. It was about 12:45 when we finally got back home. Had lunch and a much-needed nap. I guess I slept over two hours. Had a hard time getting awake enough after that to make profitable use of my time. September 16. PNG Independence Day. Praise the Lord for a better night’s sleep last night. When I first went to bed, my breathing acted just like the night before, so came out to the dining room right away and had some potassium and vitamin E and a little something to eat. Was able to settle down after that. Doesn’t seem like I accomplished a whole lot today. Had a terrific headache this morning. Tried to work on an Missionary Training Course lesson. Found some interesting information on the web about unreached people groups and copied that out. Later in the morning, I went out to Fins and Critters with C&C. They wanted to return an item and get a couple other things for Freddie (Christy's fish) instead. Enjoyed looking at all the fish, birds, snakes (pythons and boas), lizards, guinea pigs, the one rabbit, and the ferret. I think the ferret would have liked to have come home with me, but he cost $160, and he would have been a lot of work to take care of. It was fun to watch him play, though. When we got back home, Daddy and Christy went out to Subway to get their lunch. I warmed up a cup of my soup. My headache was getting unbearable, and then I thought, ParaSmart. Yes, that’s what I need. This is the parasite-type headache. And my stomach hasn’t felt good either so that’s another symptom. Took some ParaSmart before I lay down, and will take some more before bed. Praise the Lord, the headache has gone down considerably this afternoon. After a very welcome nap, I made a fruit salad and enjoyed a bowlful of that with some pecan pieces and protein powder. “And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken.” Genesis 21:1 We can always trust the LORD to keeps His promises. He will never fail. “And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.” I Samuel 15:29 “9Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, 10Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: 11Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.” Isaiah 46:9-11 “Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I the LORD build the ruined places, and plant that that was desolate: I the LORD have spoken it, and I will do it.” Ezekiel 36:36
September 13. The morning went by so quickly, but it doesn’t seem like I did much. Got a couple birthday cards ready — put one in the mail and one in my Bible. Looked through Ingles ad and made weekly shopping list. Prepared chicken and rice for Daddy’s dinner. Proofread and sent a chapter of The Isles Are Singing to Connie, and completed another chapter. This afternoon, I started on another. Pastor Ogle’s message this evening was on “Meeting with God” in Exodus 24, a good message showing how a holy God desires to have fellowship with lowly man. “Is any thing too hard for the LORD?” Genesis 18:14a Although so many things are too hard for us, we know of a surety that nothing is too hard for the Lord. September 14. Quite a day! Daddy and I both overslept. The numbers on the clock were 6:36 when I woke up. Hurry, hurry! Take a shower. Get dressed. Have quiet time and breakfast. Get ready to go shopping. Last night while I was busy doing something else, my computer decided that it would do some updating. In the process the Avast “Behavior Shield”, in guise of protecting me from the ransomware, “stole” all my memory so I couldn’t do a thing with my computer after that. We did eventually manage to get my computer shut down for the night. We waited until Connie got up this morning before we tried turning on the computer so she could see if she could disable the behavior shield. The computer took forever to boot up, but finally managed. Connie was stumped at first about how to disable the behavior shield — they wouldn’t let her do it. At first we thought we were going to have to take the computer to Office Depot for help. Finally, however, Connie thought about disabling the internet. Then she was able to permanently disable the behavior shield. And then she enabled the internet again. When that was finally done, I remembered I needed a coupon for Hobby Lobby so printed one from Daddy’s computer. Then we headed out a little after 9:00. By that time, I was tired out and ready to go back to bed. But off we went. (Connie said that she went back to bed after we left.) We hit four stores today and still arrived back home around 11:30. Aldi first; then WalMart; Hobby Lobby for some white yarn to finish the flag afghan — just the border left to do now. And last of all, Ingles. Connie had called us when we were at WalMart to have us get her some vinyl gloves, but the phone never rang. We didn’t see the missed call until we were on our way home and I was calling her to open the door for us. About the only thing I did on the computer today was backups. Spent a lot of time resizing pictures before backing them up so they wouldn’t take up too much space on the flash drive. All kinds of things were going on in the neighborhood today too. Three dogs roaming the streets together. Sherriff delivering papers to one of the houses. Two people stopping at the house across the street at separate times — each had the same car. Emergency vehicles going by. A former neighbor went by when we arrived home from shopping; said hello, and asked about the house across the street. Etc., etc. It was some kind of day. I’m so glad the Lord is in control and gives grace. We have much for which to be thankful. “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.” Genesis 18:19 The LORD knew Abraham. He knew that Aabraham believed Him and would obey Him. (See Genesis 15:6) The LORD knew that Abraham would command his children and his household after him so that they too would be obedient to the LORD, and would do justice and judgment. The LORD knows me too. What would He say about me? Would He say that I believe and obey Him? Would He say that my children could follow my example? Would they keep the way of the LORD because of what they see in my life?
September 11. A very cool and damp morning. A little bit of rain. Praise God for His care for us, and for the many whose lives have been spared from harm in the wake of Irma. Sent out a couple e-mails this morning, and then printed out updates for individuals and churches who receive them by mail. Then Daddy and I went out to WalMart to try to find emergency candles, but didn’t find any. Also needed almond milk which they did have today, and they also had a new supply of water so we got extra for us and for Connie. Threw a few other items into the cart as well. Then we went to Big Lots to see if they had the candles, but none there either. We bought a few food items while we were there. It was just about noon when we got home so had lunch and then printed out the envelopes for the updates I had printed out earlier. Gave the envelopes and letters to Connie so she could get those ready to mail while we had our nap. When I got up from nap, however, there were the letters sitting on my desk. Now what? All the letters, except the first one printed, had a word missing. Now how did the computer do that? We had proofread the first one after we printed it out, and it was fine. What happened to the other ones? Oh, well. I wrote in the missing word by hand, and Connie then got them ready and out for the letter carrier to pick up. After that, I started making my soup for the week — sweet tater soup again. Then I proofread a couple of the Proverbs lessons. Had supper. Wrote four missionary songs in Pidgin. Did the dishes. and cleaned up the kitchen. Now I’m relaxing with a bowl of mango ice cream. “And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.” Genesis 17:1 The “Almighty God” = the mighty God who is omnipotent. The mighty God who is omnipotent wants all Abraham’s spiritual seed to walk before Him and be perfect just as he wanted for Abraham. Isaac walked before God — Genesis 48:15. King David walked before God and charged his son Solomon to walk before God — I Kings 2:4. Hezekiah walked before God with a perfect heart — Isaiah 38:3. “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” Matthew 5:48 September 12. Damp and drizzly all morning so clothes went into the dryer after being washed. Daddy and I finished checking John 6 this morning, and then I set up the rest of chapter 5 and all of chapter 6 in the print file. This afternoon, I got all the monthly updates for e-mailing ready and sent out, and proofread a couple more Proverbs lessons. Mom has completed chapter 13 of her book, The Isles Are Singing. Click the document below to download and read the next chapter! Also, see the sidebar for a pdf document with chapters 1 through 13.
