Lewis says to thank all of you who have been praying for him. God is good (always) and continues to watch over him, meet his needs, and keep him well. On Sunday night, they had the hardest rainfall ever. It rained so hard that people went around to each other’s houses to make sure everyone was okay and that no landslides had carried any houses away. Landslides are common in PNG during rainy season, especially with heavy rain, and some of the people’s houses are built on hillsides. Even the topsoil on the airstrip didn’t get washed away which often happens in rainy season causing deep ruts all over the airstrip.
The day after the big rain, the Lord sent them a day of welcome sunshine, the first since Lewis has been there. When I talked with him yesterday (it was already Thursday morning there), he said the skies had cleared off overnight, and they were expecting sunshine again. Praise the Lord for giving sunshine, and please keep praying. The Lord answered prayer regarding the youth meetings as well. They met twice a day for five days, hearing teaching in the morning on choosing a marriage partner and in the afternoon lessons in wisdom from the book of Proverbs. On the last day, the youth wanted an extra meeting in the evening so they could give testimonies and have a fellowship meal. Lewis said there were a lot of good testimonies (some from parents) telling how much the lessons helped to answer many questions for them. The meeting lasted 2 ½ hours, and the fellowship meal followed so it was 11:00 p.m. before they were through. In the week of teaching, they didn’t even get through the first chapter in the book on marriage, and there are five (I think) more chapters besides. Amos and Mike will continue with the teaching of those lessons later. The New Year meetings will begin tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. (about 5:00 p.m. today NC time). They will be meeting together at 8:00 each morning and 4:00 each afternoon from Friday the 30th through Wednesday, January 4, and Lewis will be preaching all the meetings. Then on Thursday, there will be a big day of feasting and fellowship together. Please be much in prayer for these meetings, that the Lord will meet needs in the hearts of the believers, and that souls will be saved. Lewis has also been preaching every Sunday morning and afternoon since he has been there. Two weeks from Saturday, Lord willing, Lewis should arrive back home. Again we thank you for all your prayers, and ask you to please keep on praying. Thanks for your part in helping with our ministry among the Owena people. Joyfully serving, The Youngs

December 18. The Lord gave us quite a warm day today, and He sent us clouds and rain too. It rained quite hard on the way home from morning church services, but just a light rain tonight. We are thankful for the rain. We are praying for the Lord to send some sunshine to PNG. They have had a great abundance of rain there. This morning, Mrs. Surrett gave a lesson on ribbons of blue. The title is taken from Numbers 15:37-41 where the Israelites were to put ribbands of blue on the fringes of the borders of their garments as a reminder to “do all my commandments, and to be holy unto your God.” Her lesson was about a program of Bible study with an emphasis on who God is, and with the purposes of helping one to know God better; to remain faithful to God by obeying His commandments, turning from one’s own desires; and to become more like God. Pastor Ogle’s morning message was from James 5:13-20 on The Provision of Prayer, its theme being that “prayer must be a vital part of our private life and a vital part of our church life. And this evening he spoke on light, his main text being in John 1:1-9, Jesus having come as a Light into the world. He covered facts about light (it confronts; it comforts; it is contrasted with darkness); the function of the light (to bring salvation to the whole world; and the focus of our light (that it should be different; that it should give us direction; that it will cause us to be a disciple (we should be confronting, comforting, and contrasting); and that people should see our good works and glorify God. This afternoon, I called Daddy again. Before we ended our conversation the youth had started arriving for the morning meeting. They decided to meet from 7-9 a.m. instead of 8-10 so Philemon could be there. Philemon has to be at the health center by 9:00 since he is in charge while John and Margaret are away. “Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father….” Galatians 1:4 Christ gave Himself. Nobody took His life from Him. He laid it down. And it was because of our sins. It was because of my sin that He gave himself. He gave Himself because He wanted to deliver us from this present evil world. He wanted to “tear us out” of this hurtful, degenerate, calamitous, diseased, ruined, vicious, lewd, wicked world. He wanted to give Himself because it was the will of His Father and our Father. He came to do His Father’s will. Oh, thank you, Lord Jesus, for your willingness to lay down your life in my place and to deliver me from this evil world. Thank you for being willing to do the Father’s will. Help me, Lord, to always be willing to do the Father’s will. December 16. Low 20’s this morning, and only got up to mid-30’s. I waited until mid-morning to wash clothes. Put part of them in the drier and hung out the rest three or four at a time, coming back in and warming my hands between sets of clothes. I used up the rest of my food yesterday, so cooked some amaranth for breakfast and found a recipe for oriental white fish which I prepared to go with the amaranth. Tasted so good. After breakfast and quiet time, I deleted a bunch of e-mails before doing more work on the translation print file. After washing clothes, I gave our bathroom a good cleaning, including the bathtub. I’ve been putting it off because it is so hard for me to get down on the floor and scrub; and I’ve also been waiting for a warmer day as the bathroom is so cold. But I couldn’t stand to look at it any longer so I turned on the little heater in there and went to work. Scrubbed it with cleanser first, and that removed a lot of the rust colored stains. Rinsed it all out and then sprayed with disinfectant bleach spray and let that set on the stains for a while before the final scrub. By the time I got done scrubbing and rinsing, it looked like a new tub. The last job of the morning was to make a pot of soup - green broth this time - green onions, parsley, celery, kale, napa cabbage, a little leftover broccoli, and some flavoring. Voila! A nice healthy soup. Oops, a little too much pepper. This afternoon, I added verses and questions to the next youth lesson. Fixed a yummy tofu pudding for a mid-afternoon snack. Brought the clothes in (even though all of them weren’t quite dry) because icy precipitation is predicted for tonight. “6For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. 7The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: 8But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.” Deuteronomy 7:6-8 Like as He called Israel to be a holy people, the Lord also called us to be a holy people. (Ephesians 1:4; I Peter 1:15,16) He chose us, through faith in Christ and through sanctification of the Spirit, to be a special people. (II Thessalonians 2:13; I Peter 2:9) Compared to all other major religious groups in the world, true believers are few in number. It was because of His great love for us that He delivered us from bondage and redeemed us. (Ephesians 1:7; 2:4,5; I Peter 1:18,19; Romans 3:24) Through the shed blood of Christ, He made a covenant to give eternal life to all who trust in His Son. And because He loves us, He will keep His promises to us. (Titus 1:2) December 17. No computer work today. Washed hair first thing this morning. After breakfast and quiet time, I did some sewing and a couple other odd jobs. And later in the morning, we all went out shopping. First to Crossroads Thrift Store to look for some warm blouses, and then to the Hospice Thrift Store for the same. Found two warm blouses/shirts at each store. Also found a few little craft items. After the thrift stores, we went to Big Lots to get some snacks and a couple other little items. And last of all to a shoe store to look for some warm winter shoes. Christy found a nice pair of slippers on sale, but neither Connie nor I found shoes that were comfortable though we tried on many pairs. It was already around 2:30 when we got home. Had some lunch and then settled down for nap around 3:00. Woke up abruptly about 4:00 when I heard the phone ringing. Who would be calling? Daddy was the only one who usually called this time of day. But I thought I was supposed to call him tomorrow afternoon. By the time I got awake enough to get my bearings, the phone rang again, but he could not hear me answer. And the third time, the same. I finally was able to call him back and talk with him. He said it was very rainy, windy, and chilly there. But he had the wood stove going and usually keeps it going at least through noon so he can cook a meal and also have hot water to wash with later in the afternoon. He said that the men did not get to meet on Saturday because nobody told Matthew and he was in Marivo with his father who is sick. So they met yesterday to discuss the church situation, particularly the leadership roles. I was glad to hear some encouraging news. Amos told Daddy that Sunny is standing strong in her Christian life, and Mata wants her to help lead the ladies’ meetings. Dallas and Phinehas are doing well among the young men and are helping in church and youth group. “9For we are glad, when we are weak, and ye are strong: and this also we wish, even your perfection…. 11Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.” II Corinthians 13:9,11 December 14. While I’m enjoying my supper of fried rice and seaweed with red onion, fresh ginger root, and tamari, I’ll see if I can recall the day’s events. I decided to look for a simple lacy scarf pattern for Christy’s gift to take to work. It didn’t take long to find one online and get started on the scarf. I had lots of other things on my schedule, however, so didn’t get very much done on that. Had to write a couple e-mails. Then I wrote down information for Connie’s research project. After that, I spent a good amount of time putting the English verses from Luke into the translation print file and lining those up with the Pidgin. This afternoon, I did some writing in the Pidgin version of PNG’s gospel history. I was busy with my nose in that when the phone suddenly rang. Oh, oh. I was supposed to call Daddy at 4:00, and here it was 4:15. I quickly returned the missed call and talked for quite a while with Daddy. They have been having rain every day, although he said there has been some sunshine in the mornings. Right now he is meeting with Matthew, Amos, David, Mike, and Gibson to try to deal with some problems and complaints. Next week, the youth want to have special meetings, twice a day for five days. I am quite concerned about Bonita. Before the school year ended last year, she had started putting on quite a bit of weight, and her face was really full like it had a lot of fluid in it. Daddy says that now her whole body is like that, and she can hardly walk. Please pray for healing for Bonita and that her family will be able to get her medical care for her condition. Thanks! “9And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.” II Corinthians 12:9,10 Lord, help me to remember who You are and that Your grace is sufficient. December 15. A lovely sunny day, but cold wind started blowing here this morning, making quite a chill in the air. Today was spent writing a couple e-mails and deleting a lot of e-mails, adding more English Luke to the translation print file and aligning it with the Pidgin, and getting another ladies’ lesson written. Also wrote a couple text messages with updates on Daddy. Before I had written Ellen, I received a message from her saying that sickness has been hitting their family -- either the stomach bug or respiratory illness. This evening Cilla called, and I enjoyed the time to chat with her. I also took the time today to work on the scarf Christy wanted made for a gift to give at work. Connie had done most of the crocheting on the scarf. Christy wanted it monogrammed, and it took quite a while to figure out the best way to do that. I still need to put fringe on it, and then it will be done. December 12. A lot warmer last night. Only needed one blanket. And to my surprise, the day warmed up to the 60’s. Rain had been predicted, and the morning was quite cloudy and a bit chilly, but maybe a few drops of rain fell. Around noon the sun came out, and it was a beautiful day. This morning, I finished getting all of Mark into the translation file. Then I went outside and picked up rubbish, nearly a large bagful of stuff that had blown into or been thrown into the yard or the empty lot on the corner. It was getting to look rather messy so I was happy to get it cleaned up. As I was out, Duck and Christine came by on their way for a walk. After greeting them and asking how they were doing, I asked if they had been reading their Bibles. Christine said they are. Before they walked on, I reminded them that I am praying for them and that God loves them. After I came inside, I had a little time to do some work on the missionary history of PNG before lunch and a little bit again this afternoon. Christy was late getting home from work because she had to stay a little later to fill in on watching the children while someone had a break. Then she had to go to the post office to mail a package. I still expected her to take a little nap before we went out shopping, but she said she didn’t have time so off we went to Aldi and WalMart for the weekly shopping. There wasn’t much on my list so it didn’t take long. Christy also went to Ingles to pick up a couple things for Connie, but I waited in the car. Then she got gas at Ingles before we came home. On our way home, we were awed by the full moon, large and beautiful in the eastern sky. (Picture above shows a full moon at night; it was still light when Mom and Christy saw the full moon.) “8And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work...: 11Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.” II Corinthians 9:8,11 More of God’s all’s and abundances. Wow! How good God is! What cause for thanksgiving! December 13. No sunshine today. Was about 40º when I got up and stayed in the 40’s all day. The air had an icy chill to it, but Connie and I still enjoyed a short walk in the refreshing outdoor air a little after noon. This morning, I wrote a couple e-mails and deleted a lot of e-mails. Finished getting the rest of the Pidgin text for Luke chapters 1-12 into the print file. Now I’ve got to do the English and align it with the Pidgin text. This afternoon, I added questions to lesson 9 of the Proverbs lessons. At 3:00, Christy and I headed out for WalMart again. Christy had an eye doctor appointment, and while she was at her appointment I took care of other business. Returned the yarn she had bought yesterday. It was supposed to be used to make a scarf for one of the ladies at her work place, but it had four ends. Then I shopped for a few things Christy forgot yesterday, plus replacing the yarn, and getting a few other yarn, plus some warm socks for myself. By the time Christy finished her appointment, we had to hasten off to Dr. Prime’s office for my 4:30 appointment there. Arrived just in time. A lovely young lady named Jennifer was there helping him today. I thought it was the same one who was there a long time ago who is a massage therapist, but Jennifer said that is her sister. Jennifer will be graduating from chiropractic school this weekend, and she was quite excited about that. From there, we ran over to the bank. “13Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name. 14Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you; 15(For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.” Deuteronomy 6:13-15 The LORD Jehovah, our God, is a jealous God. He demands and is worthy of our total attention and affection. We should serve and worship Jehovah God and Him only. December 9. Very cold this morning, but not as cold as we expected. About 28º here in our back yard, but lower out in the open. Around 20º or lower was predicted. The sun was shining brightly, however, and it was a lovely day for drying clothes. This morning has been mostly a house keeping day - dishes needed to be washed; laundry had to be done; and cooking did too - oat groats for breakfast, lentil mushroom soup for lunch. Part of the morning and afternoon, I worked on the translation print file. After nap, I wrote a letter, washed the storm window on the laundry room door, got the laundry in, hung up clothes, fixed rice and a pan of broccoli and cauliflower for supper. “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” II Corinthians 7:1 Because God has given us those wonderful promises in chapter 6 verses 16-18, how important it is that we be clean both in body and in spirit and that we work on perfecting holiness in the fear of God! December 10. It was about 6:50 before I woke up this morning. Had a shower, quiet time, breakfast. Wrote one e-mail, marked down some prayer requests from some others. Found a box for Ruthie’s doilies and got them all packaged up and ready to mail. Washed out my other pair of warm socks. Looked for a pattern for a chunky scarf, and later printed it out. Got another ladies’ meeting lesson written. Started crocheting the scarf, but discovered the yarn was all tangled up so spent about a half hour untangling before I could actually work on the scarf. In the evening, I realized that I had not taken any pictures of the doilies so undid the package and removed the doilies, took some pictures, and then repackaged the doilies. Christy finished folding, stuffing, labeling, stamping, and sealing all the newsletters yesterday so those are ready to be mailed tomorrow. A couple doilies Mom has made Computer TroubleDecember 11. Another frosty morning. Third morning in a row in the 20’s. Cloudy today, however, and rain expected tonight so it feels a lot colder today.
It was a long time before I got to sleep last night for some reason, and even after that, I kept waking up every so often. Finally a little after 5:00 a.m., I went to sleep and didn’t wake up until after 7:00. Tried to transfer pictures from the camera to the computer and found that it wasn’t communicating. Tried transferring them using the SD card, but that wouldn’t work either. Last night the mouse quit working, and a message said that it had malfunctioned. Come to find out, however, that it is the computer drives (external drives such as USB drives and SD card reader, etc.) that have malfunctioned. Christy and Connie researched for a while to see if they could fix things, and Christy tried for a while, but couldn’t make anything change. So looks like I’ll have to take the computer to Office Max. I had planned to do backups this week, but don’t know if I’ll be able to do that or not since the computer doesn’t recognize any external devices. I was thankful for a good long nap this afternoon. Just hope I sleep as well tonight. I was happy to talk to Daddy this afternoon. Have really been missing him. It will be a long while yet until mid-January. He said they have been having heavy rains at night. And there are lots of rats in the house, but there was no rat poison in town. Said he preached on Sunday. In the morning service, the people sang for a long time, and David took a long time telling people why he was stepping down as pastor. So he didn’t get much time to preach in the morning, but had more time in the afternoon. December 7. A mix of sunshine and clouds today, but the air felt fresh and warm when the sun was shining. The first half of the morning, I busied myself writing some e-mails and deleting others. During my morning break, I took the temporary back off Daddy’s desk and cut it to fit on top plus extra to give the desk more depth. This I did so we can use the baseboard heater that is behind the desk as it seems that the motor of the portable heater may be going bad. Also my feet get really cold on the colder (and especially damper) days so having the baseboard heat by my feet under my desk would be very welcome. The second half of the morning, I started working on our PNG story, and continued work on that this afternoon. I talked with Daddy for a while. He did not get into Owena yesterday because of plane problems so is scheduled to go on the first flight this morning if the weather opens up. Finished Ruthie’s first doily yesterday evening. It is exciting to have that done. I will make one more and then mail them to her. Pastor Ogle’s teaching was on Exodus chapter 6 this evening. It was an exciting message about the authority of Jehovah God. “We must trust God even when the results we expect are not there.” “No matter how much the enemy may war and rage against us, he cannot beat God.” It’s easy to get fired up over a message like that. “17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.” II Corinthians 5:17-19 ANY one who is in Christ is a new creature. EVERYthing is new for a new creature in Christ. His life is no longer the same. And ALL things are of God. Through the work of Jesus Christ, He has brought us back into fellowship with Himself, and He has entrusted us with the ministry of bringing others into reconciliation with Himself. What an awesome ministry! December 8. Chilly and cloudy today. Wrote a couple e-mails this morning. Took a break and did the dishes since they didn’t get done yesterday. Then I got the income report updated. The afternoon was spent working on the translation print file and on the youth lessons. A little after 4:30, I called Daddy to see if he had made it into Owena yet. Praise the Lord, he did get in yesterday morning around 9:00 (Thursday morning there, or Wednesday evening around 6:00 here). The Lord gave them a nice sunny morning. He and some others spent the day scrubbing the house and doing repairs. He had asked the people to send an empty diesel drum out to town so he could bring in diesel, but they never did. So he isn’t able to use the generator either. One of the pilots is going to try to get him some diesel if and when he can. He plans to meet with Pastor Amos and the deacons on Saturday morning after lotu (church) to discuss his schedule for the time he’ll be there. December 5. The Lord sent us sunshine in the morning and clouds again in afternoon. More rain is predicted for tomorrow, maybe starting tonight. Morning was busy doing yesterday’s dishes (there weren’t very many), getting journal notes for this past week ready and sent off to Connie, talking to sister Beth on the phone, looking through recipes and adding a few items to shopping list, printing out some copies of newsletter (and corresponding envelopes) that need to be sent out to supporters and some individuals, saving newsletter in JPEG and sending off to Christy. Morning went too fast, but it can’t be brought back. The afternoon went quickly as well. Had a little time after nap to start sending e-mail newsletters with acknowledgments of support. Then Christy and I went off to Aldi and WalMart to shop. We arrived home right around 5:00. It had already started raining and was getting dark outside before we left WalMart. Got food put away and had supper. Then finished the e-mail newsletter/acknowledgments. In the middle of that task, one lens fell out of my eye glasses. I was thankful to find the screw in my lap. I couldn’t see to put it into the eye glasses, however, so I was very thankful for Connie’s help. “14For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 15And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.” (II Corinthians 5:14,15) It is the love of Christ that constrains us (it compels us, presses upon us) to share the gospel with others, knowing that all men are dead in trespasses and sins. But Christ died for all men so that we should no longer live unto ourselves. We should live our lives unto Him who died for us and rose again. December 6. Another rainy day. Praise the Lord for rain. Quite chilly out today, and a cold north wind was blowing into the bedroom around the a/c unit so I found a piece of plastic to cover up the unit and all the spaces around it. Wrote several e-mails today. Finished the last lesson on “How to Study the Bible” and sent the set of lessons to Connie. No word from Daddy since Saturday. Lord willing, the Lord opened up the way for him to get into Owena today. December 4. A very chilly, wet day. We praise the Lord for the rain. It has been much needed. We took the van to church this morning. Our Sunday school class was a blessing as we divided up into groups and each group studied the life of a mother in the Bible and the influence she had on her child, either for good or for evil. Toward the end of class time, a spokeswoman for each group reported on their conclusions and principles or applications from the Scripture passage. Pastor Ogle preached on James 5:12, “Is Your Word Good?” “As a person changed by the power of the Gospel, your word should always be your bond.” Our yes should mean yes, and our no should mean no. We should not have to swear with an oath. And in conclusion, ”Honesty is making your words conform to reality. Integrity is making reality conform to your words.” This evening, he brought out some thoughts mostly from Matthew chapters 1 and 2 and Luke chapters 1 and 2 about things that were not what they appeared to be. We are thankful that they were not as they seemed. It appeared 1. to others that Mary was unfaithful 2. that Herod wanted to worship the Lord 3. that Elisabeth would have no children 4. that certain things were necessary for child bearing 5. that God was unkind to make Mary travel 6. that a stable is not a nice place for a birth 7. that the shepherds were in trouble rather than in triumph 8. that it is strange to be worshipping a child 9. that Jesus should have had a more glorious entrance into the world 10. that Jesus is not a king. Applications included 1. Absence of faith results in displeasure (Zacharias) 2. Questions can be asked, but not those of doubt 3. Obedience is required no matter the circumstances 4. God is watching so it really doesn’t matter what men think 5. God will provide your needs 6. Bible knowledge alone is not good enough; you must personally apply it 7. Don’t jump to conclusions. We went to church a little early this evening so Carlos could check over Christy’s car. Enjoyed some time to talk with Andrea before the meeting and with Lazara afterward. This afternoon, I completed the gift I was making for my secret sister. Today I also started making a doily for my sister Ruth. “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” II Corinthians 5:1 We know for sure that if our temporary earthly residence were to be destroyed, what does it matter? For we have a permanent, and eternal residence that has not been made with hands. It is in heaven. Nobody can destroy it. December 2. Down to about 32º this morning. Waited until around 9:00 to do laundry to give the air a chance to warm up before hanging out clothes. It was about 46º when I hung out the clothes, but it felt very pleasant outside. The rest of the morning, I did some research to find statistics and a missionary quote to add to the end of the newsletter. Then I printed out a copy of the letter for proofreading. After nap this afternoon, I looked out the window and there was Duck sitting there on his porch. Connie said he had just gotten home. I took a few minutes to run over and let him know that we had been praying for him and to assure him of God’s love. Most of all we pray for Duck’s salvation. And Christine’s too. Christine said they have a month extension to find a place to live. Perhaps the Lord will give us another chance to share the gospel with them. Not long after I came back to the house, Daddy called. The Lord had brought him safely to Port Moresby and everything went well for entering the country and getting his visa. However, all the flights to Goroka were cancelled because of the work on the Goroka airstrip. He stayed the night at Mapang. It was 6:30 a.m. there when he called, and he was going to head back to Jackson’s airport to see if he could get a flight up to Goroka today (Saturday morning there). (In a later call, he said it was afternoon before he went to the airport.) “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” II Corinthians 3:18 Thank You, Lord, for giving us eyes to see Your glory in the mirror of Your word so that by Your Spirit You might change us into the image of Your dear Son. December 3. Went to bed a little earlier last night, and woke up around ten past six this morning. After quiet time, I started cooking fish for breakfast to go with the rest of my buckwheat. Later I swept the dining room and kitchen floors and emptied trash. Got most of my desk cleaned off. After Christy finished doing her and Connie’s laundry, we went off to Hobby Lobby. There I bought some yarn and some thin elastic. We also made a stop at Office Depot because the printer ran out of black ink yesterday. Right after nap this afternoon, I started making soup - vegetable soup with chicken broth. It always takes quite a while to get all the veggies cut up, and it was close to 4:00 when everything was ready to start cooking. Shortly after that, Daddy called. He didn’t get into Goroka until 5:00 Saturday afternoon. All the stores were closed, and there was nothing to eat in the house where he is staying. I think he said someone gave him some food, but it was hard to hear him. It was Sunday there when he called, going on 7:00 a.m. He was going to go out to Goroka West and buy a few groceries so he could have something for breakfast. He would also look around and see what was available to buy to take back to the bush as he only has two days now to shop. His flight is scheduled for Wednesday. He said to pray for dry weather as there has been lots of rain. He was very thankful for the good customer service he had all along the way. Wheelchair service is such a blessing for senior travelers. Counting the extra time he had to wait at Jackson’s airport to get his flight Saturday afternoon, he was in flight or in waiting for flights a total of 68 hours. Praise the Lord for taking care of him. |
