December 24. The Lord gave us mostly cloudy weather today, but s😊nshine in our hearts. My Psalms for today were 52 and 53. “8But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever. 9I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.” Psalm 52:8,9 May I be like the olive Tree in the house of God, Green and beautiful and fair, Abiding in His word. For ever in His mercy, My soul shall hope and trust, In His salvation I’ll rejoice, And find in Him my rest. O Lord, for ever and ever I’ll magnify thy name, From day to day Thy praises sing, Thy majesty proclaim Because Thou, Lord God, only Hast done to me great things, And closely Thou dost shelter me Underneath Thy wings. I’ll wait upon Thy name, Lord, Because how good it is Before Thy saints who worship Thee, Thy holy name confess! ~J. L. T. Y.

December 22. A lovely day! Thank you, Lord. And a busy day. Laundry. Writing letters. Making cheesecake bars and tofu pudding. Making an anniversary card for Daddy. Daddy went out and got the car registration renewed. This afternoon, I did a bit of work on ladies’ lessons, and Daddy and I tried to finish checking John chapter 8, but we still didn’t finish. Have twelve verses to go. “1To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.” Psalm 46:1-3 Praise God that He is our refuge (our shelter, our hope, our trust); our strength, and our help in adversity. Not only is He our help, He is a “present” help—He is right here, in our company, ready at hand. And not only is He a present help, but He is a “very” present help—speedily, exceedingly, greatly, utterly present to help. He couldn’t be any more ready or any closer at hand. Thank you, Lord, for being so close so that we have no need whatsoever to fear no matter what happens. December 23. 48th anniversary. Thank you, Lord, for the lessons we’ve learned and the joys we’ve shared through these many years. A dark and cloudy day with just a little rain. This morning, Daddy and I searched for Shelby restaurants to see where we wanted to go out to eat. None of them really had what seemed pleasing so we finally settled on China Buffet. It had good ratings, and we had been there before and enjoyed the food. We were quite disappointed today, however. I didn’t fill my first plate, but just put bits of this and that to see what I would desire to have more of. All the “hot” food was cold, however, except for a small piece of fish. Needless to say, I did not refill my plate with hot food. Had a taste of mint cream, and that tasted pretty good. And that was our outing for today. Thankful for a hot cup of homemade soup after we got home. This afternoon, I tried to write “Happy Anniversary” on the cheesecake I had made yesterday, but there wasn’t enough space using the smarties so I just wrote “Happy Day.” Took some pictures. Made a birthday card. And this evening, we all had a good time playing a table game together after Christy washed the dishes. “6They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; 7None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: 8(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) 9That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.” Psalm 49:6-9 The redemption of a soul is so costly that no amount of money whatsoever can be given to God to redeem a lost soul. I’m so thankful that the price has been paid, and that it is enough for everyone, both rich and poor. If I had to pay for my own redemption, the only price I could pay would be eternal death and separation from God.
December 20. Started feeling sick while I was washing dishes last night. Hurried to the vitamin drawer and got out some activated charcoal. Took charcoal several times before going to bed before 10:00. Put some charcoal powder in the glass of water that I took to the bedroom for the night and sipped on that whenever I got up during the night. Only took the charcoal at meal times today, and had papaya enzymes with each meal too. Ate mostly soup (with a little rice for breakfast) and yogurt with fruit and pecans today. Had some chips and yogurt dip for supper. Felt wiped out and took two naps. Didn’t do much of anything today except research on vitamins, making our monthly vitamin order, and making tomorrow’s shopping list. Hope I feel up to going shopping tomorrow. (Have been researching vitamins in order to change my vitamin regimen and get a program together that is going to be more suited to my needs.) Was thankful to be feeling somewhat better this evening. “21And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, and they brought the LORD'S offering to the work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service, and for the holy garments. 22And they came, both men and women, as many as were willing hearted, and brought bracelets, and earrings, and rings, and tablets, all jewels of gold: and every man that offered offered an offering of gold unto the LORD….” Exodus 35:21-22 God’s desire is for our hearts to be stirred up and for us to have willing spirits and willing hearts to bring him an offering. He desires both men and women who are willing hearted and wise hearted to do His work. If we all would allow the Holy Spirit to stir us up and give us willing hearts and spirits to bring Him an offering, and make us wise hearts to do His work, there would be no lack of supply for accomplishing all that God has commanded His church to do. December 21. Winter solstice. The morning started out with a comfortable 50º but by the time we got home from shopping, it was down to 48. We’d thought it was going down, for when we came out of Aldi, there was an icy wind blowing. We were happy to get an early start on shopping today and be home by a little after 10:00. Thankful to have just a short list today. After putting groceries away, I put chicken on to cook for Daddy’s dinner. It was still mostly frozen so put it on early to be sure it was all cooked through by dinner time. Spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon before nap working on an MTC lesson. This afternoon, I found snow and snowmen pictures to use on my desktop and finished the MTC lesson. “5And they spake unto Moses, saying, The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work, which the LORD commanded to make. 6And Moses gave commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, Let neither man nor woman make any more work for the offering of the sanctuary. So the people were restrained from bringing. 7For the stuff they had was sufficient for all the work to make it, and too much.” Exodus 36:5-7 Wouldn’t it be wonderful if God’s people today gave like this for the great work which Jesus commended His disciples to do before He left this world? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was so much given for missions that enough missionaries could be sent today to all the unreached peoples of the world? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if God’s people gave so much that there was sufficient for all the work that needs to be done, and too much? December 18. Yesterday evening seemed to go very slowly; and by 9:30 (or earlier), I was just wandering around wondering what I felt like doing. My brain couldn’t think of anything. That was a good sign that I needed to go to bed early and get some extra sleep. Must have been really tired as I lay down on the bed around 10:10 and was soon in dreamland. Never rolled over or moved, as far as I know. (Of course I couldn’t tell for sure since I was sleeping. 😊) Never woke up until about 3:15. After that, sleep was somewhat restless. Was thankful to get one corner of my desk cleaned off this morning. Took time to get a birthday card out in the mail, write a thank you note, and write a note for RB. In between times, I made up the bed; moved things out of the kitchen so the floor could be washed, and got water ready for washing it. Then Daddy helped by washing it and I dried it. Then it was time to sit down and get journal notes and pictures sent off to Connie. This afternoon, Daddy and I labored over checking a portion of the translation of John chapter 8. Finally finished through verse 30. Praise the Lord for His help. “6And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. 8And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped.” Exodus 34:6-8 When Moses understood the majesty of the LORD—his mercy and grace, His longusuffering, His abundant goodness and truth, His forgiveness, and His justice, Moses made haste to worship the LORD. LORD, that I too may see Your greatness and make haste to worship You as Moses did. December 19. What a lovely day the Lord gave us! It was so refreshing to open windows and breathe fresh air for a while. Right after breakfast and quiet time, I put the laundry in to wash. We planned to go to the discount store in Polkville as soon as the laundry was done, but the machine was giving us problems—seemed unbalanced and wouldn’t spin out. We paused and restarted it two or three times. Pulled up and rearranged clothes that seemed to be stuck under the agitator. Priase the Lord, they finally spun out after the machine refilled with water. It looked like an old nightgown rag was the culprit with torn places that likely got caught on the agitator. After all that, we got a late start to Polkville—a little after 10:00 if I remember correctly. Bought a few things at the discount store. I was very thankful to find more of the Alive protein powder. Stopped at Ingles on the way home where we found some smoothie drinks marked way day and also some mark down greens. Bought a few bananas and a bottle of Bragg liquid aminos as well. It was a little after 12:30 when we finally got home and going on 2:00 before we lay down for nap. What was left of the afternoon was spent in the kitchen, making lentil/vegetable soup for myself and pizza for Daddy’s supper. “Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.” Exodus 34:21 If we honor God and rest on the day He has given to us for rest, He will help us take proper care of our plowing and harvest on the other days and will provide our needs.
December 17. In Sunday school this morning, we decided to whom we should give the offering. Also signed a get well card for Kathy M, and the Surretts were going to take it to her after church. Mrs. Surrett’s lesson was on “Crowning Virtues of Womanhood”, taken from the Thompson Chain Reference Bible. It had examples of ladies with a devotional spirit, ladies of modesty, and ladies of liberality. Pastor Ogle continued his series on “Peter, a Man Like Us” preaching from Acts 10, the story of Cornelius, “The Mystery Unfolds.” “We must surrender our prejudices in order to obey what God has told us!” This afternoon, I transferred pictures from the camera to the computer and got journal notes ready to send to Connie tomorrow, looked at some tips online about making an offer on a house, looked for a special bath product to include in a gift, helped Christy touch up her plaque and get it ready for varnishing. This evening, I swept the kitchen floor; we listened to an online sermon together; and I worked on crocheting a baby sweater. “14And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest…. 16For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.” Exodus 33:14,16 Just as God promised that His presence would go with His people and He would give them rest, so Jesus promised to be with us always, even unto the end of the world. Others will know that we belong to Christ when they see that God is with us and that we live lives separated from the people of the world. December 15. Right after breakfast and quiet time this morning, Daddy and I went off to WalMart again. It was time to get the oil changed in the van, and I wanted to get some yarn to make an outfit for the new baby that was born yesterday to Kristen and Caleb C. Also needed to get varnish for Christy’s plaque—had forgotten to put it on our list yesterday. Getting low on almond milk too so got more of that, and Lew returned some Pringles and bought the right kind. Didn’t take long to get the oil changed and we were on our way back home. Then there was laundry to do and e-mails to write. This afternoon, the replacement blanket order was delivered—much nicer—the right size for the bed and has the fleece lining, yet it is lightweight. Should be nice and warm too. I’m very thankful for a lightweight, warm blanket. Also printed about 80 of the newsletters, so Christy can start getting them ready for mailing. Christy had a call this afternoon from Jane C asking Christy if she would like Jane to help her find houses that will meet her qualifications. Christy was glad for her offer and will appreciate whatever help she can give. This evening, I made brownies and washed dishes. Usually Christy washes the dishes on Friday evening, but she had a party at work tonight and was obligated to go. So I took her place doing dishes, and she’ll take my place on Sunday evening. “11And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand? 12Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people. 13Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.” Exodus 32:11-13 A humble man of God will not seek glory for himself or be glad at the destruction of those who sin but will plead for God’s mercy for the sinner.
December 16. It was around 6:30 when I woke up this morning. I guess I was too cozy under the warm blankets. Showered and washed hair. Had breakfast and quiet time. Finished the crocheted bag to put the loofah and wash cloths in. Made a crocheted chain for the drawstring like the pattern said, but it only stretched and didn’t draw the bag closed. So I found a nice piece of dark blue ribbon to used instead. That worked much better. Took a few pictures before getting the bath set “wrapped up” in a party bag to be given away later on. Prepared and e-mailed out all the newsletters to supporters who normally receive acknowledgments by e-mail. Cooked up the broccoli for Daddy to have for lunch with his spaghetti. Whipped up some soup for myself. This afternoon, I printed out another 80 copies of the newsletter and gave all the copies to Christy to prepare for mailing. Also cooked a large pot of cranberry-apple sauce. Had a nice chat with Martha this evening via skype. Also cooked up a skillet full of zucchini, mushrooms, and onions and had a bowlful for snack. “32Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written. 33And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.” Exodus 32:32,33 Moses showed his love for his people in his willingness to be blotted out of God’s book for their sake. The LORD made it clear that only those who have sinned against the LORD (apparently without repentance) will be blotted out of His book.
December 13. A very cold morning, and a strong, cold wind blowing this afternoon. Post Office truck was here at 7:00 this morning to deliver a parcel with a fleece blanket I had ordered with my birthday money. I was disappointed in the order, however, as the blanket, even though king size, was too short for our queen bed, and it didn’t have the fleece lining that I expected. So we packed it back up, and made arrangements to return it to the company. Ordered another which cost a little more, but looks like it will be more acceptable. I was glad that we were able to work on checking Pidgin John for about an hour this morning. After that, I started making soup—tater soup today, along with some carrots, celery, napa cabbage, and onion. While I was getting the soup made, Daddy went off to Gaffney to pick up C&C’s raw milk. This afternoon and evening, I finished crocheting the washcloth, made corrections in the Pidgin John file, and set up the new corrections in the print file. “And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.” Exodus 32:1 If we trust in a man to be our deliverer, we will always be disappointed, and most often will go farther away from the Lord as we seek to find an answer to our problems. December 14. Shopping didn’t take us too long today so that was a blessing. Didn’t really have to buy much groceries. Went to Office Max first to get envelopes and ink for the newsletters. Got the envelopes, but when we saw how much the ink cost for Christy’s printer, we decided we would do the printing on our printer. I was excited to find a box of 72 Sharpie markers of all kinds and colors — fine point, ultra-fine point, metallic, and neon –- marked down from $69.99 to $19.99. Bought a couple packs of markers from the mark down section. We were also able to buy postage stamps at Office Max which saved us a stop at the Post Office. After Office Max, we did our Aldi and WalMart shopping and were finished and on our way home by 10:30. After putting food away, there was some time to look at the Shelby Shopper online to see if they had anything for sale or rent that would be suitable for our needs, but didn’t find anything. This afternoon, we took a bag of crocheted scarves and hats to Crossroads Rescue Mission and took a parcel to UPS to be returned to the company we ordered it from. Christy talked to a couple lenders. At least some steps are being made toward serious searching. “2And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me. 3And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron. 4And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 5And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD. 6And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.” Exodus 32:2-6 As servants of the Lord, we must be very careful about making decisions based on what the people like unless we diligently seek God’s will and are very sure that their desires are pleasing to God and in line with His word. Otherwise we will be accountable for leading people into sin or encouraging them in the wrong choices that they make. December 11. A very cold morning, but the Lord sent sunshine to warm up the wintry world. After my breakfast and quiet time this morning, Daddy and I went out to the stores. He put a little gas in the car at Fast Stop, and we went from there to Hobby Lobby where I got yarn and a small hole paper punch. After that, we went to Burke’s so I could look for a queen bed size fleece blanket. Found some nice soft velvety blankets, but they didn’t seem as warm as the fleece ones. There were some nice Sherpa throws too, but not large enough for the bed. Looked at slippers, too, and tried to find another soft flannel nightgown like the one I bought there a couple years ago, but didn’t find any. Ended up just buying a hairbrush. Then we came home. Printed out crochet patterns for things to make for my Secret Prayer Sister who has been such a blessing to me all year. Also printed out a text only copy of our newsletter so Daddy and I could proofread it. After nap, we did the proofreading, and now I believe it is ready for printing and sending out. Also got journal notes from this past week set up in their file and sent those off to Connie along with some pictures. “And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee….” Exodus 31:6 God fills us with wisdom to do the work He has called us to do, but we should never think that we must do the job alone, or that we do not need others to help us, or that we are the only ones who are smart enough to do the work. Wisdom to do the work is not in ourselves, and God gives wisdom to all who are wise hearted so that they can help us to accomplish the job God has given us to do. December 12. Daddy took the van to A+ this morning to get it checked out and inspected so he can get the registration renewed. He was gone quite a long time because Charlie was so busy. While he was gone, I did the wash and hung things out. Temperature was only 40-something, but the sun was shining, and it felt good outside. I also got all the newsletters printed that needed acknowledgments for supporters and needed to be mailed. Printed the envelopes too and gave the letters and envelopes to Connie to fold, stuff, stamp, seal, and put out in the mail. Got the bed made up with clean sheets. Prepared a small potful of carrots and some hamburgers for Daddy’s dinner. This afternoon, though the sun was still shining and the temperature was up to 51º, a cold north wind made the real feel very icy. After nap, I spent time on MTC lessons, and this evening washed a large volume of dishes and did some crocheting. Finished the loofah this evening and started crocheting a washcloth before bedtime. “15Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. 16Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. 17It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.” Exodus 31:15 to 17. Although the sabbath, the seventh day of the week, was given to the children of Israel, it was God’s desire that man work six days a week and rest and be refreshed one day of the week, according to the example which the LORD gave us when He completed His work of creating the world in six days. It is a day to remember all of God’s wonderful works, to worship Him, to rest, and to be refreshed through fellowship with the LORD and with His people. The first day of the week was given to the church as a day of rest and refreshing. December 10. Seems like a sty or something came up on my lower eyelid yesterday evening. It came on pretty quickly and was pretty painful by the time I was getting ready for bed so I put some honey on it and took a couple ibuprofen. Tossed and turned quite a bit during the night, and didn’t wake up until about 6:30 this morning. Had a hard time getting moving and also a hard time getting my brain to work. I was thankful that my eye felt a fair bit better, and I put a little more honey on it to help complete the healing process. Since I was so slow getting going, I wasn’t quite ready when Daddy had planned to leave for church. Then we didn’t get off until late anyway because the back doors of the van were frozen, and we couldn’t get them open. He finally got one open, and we set off about 9:45 for Nations Baptist Church. Still got there before 10:00. We needn’t have worried about being late, because there wasn’t anyone else there yet except Pastor P and Matt and family. They were trying to get the heater to work and finally decided to meet in one of the smaller rooms for Sunday school because it would take a while for the auditorium to warm up. It was about 10:30 before Sunday school even started. By then a few more people were there. Matt taught from Acts 8 on the Ethiopian eunuch. He did well even though his computer crashed yesterday, and all his most recent notes were lost. He is good at asking questions and getting people to think. There were a few more people there when it was time for the main meeting so they put more chairs in the vestibule and we met there. Matt did the preaching for the main service as well. Pastor P had expected to be away so had Matt prepare for preaching so he just kept to that arrangement even though he was there. Matt preached on the wonderful gift of God from Romans 6:23. After church, everyone went out to eat together at Subway. Daddy dropped Connie and me off at the house first because we can’t eat the Subway food. Then he and Christy went out to meet the others at Subway and have lunch and fellowship with them. When Daddy and Christy got back, Daddy and I went for nap. A little before 3:00, Daddy and C & C went over to look at the house on B Street again. Mel met them there and looked things over pretty well, taking some pictures and writing down notes. There are quite a few things that would need to be worked on which means we would want to make a much lower offer if we decide to buy the house. We really appreciated Mel’s input. Finished the crocheted beret this evening while we were listening to a recorded sermon. Thought I would run out of yarn before it was complete, but I had just enough, with just about a foot long string left. “2See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: 3And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship….” Exodus 31:2,3 When the Lord calls us to do His work, He fills us with His Spirit, giving us wisdom, understanding, and knowledge to be able to do all that He wants us to do. December 8. We were greeted this morning by cloudy skies, looking very much like snow clouds. As temperatures dropped throughout the morning, morning rains turned to afternoon snow showers. So lovely! A wonderful reminder that though our sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow! Needless to say, we did not hang the laundry outside today. Part of it went into the dryer and the rest was hung up here and there to dry. Alternated today between writing sections of the newsletter and sorting and packing books. Finished filling the overnight bag with books to be shipped to PNG. Now we need some small boxes to pack more books. “And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.” Psalm 9:10 If we know the Lord’s name, that is His honor, authority, and character, surely we will put our trust in Him. For there is none other who is like our God, none other who is worthy of our trust.
December 9. Snow showers again this morning! Working on crocheting a beret and also helping Christy to write a Bible verse on her plaque. Painted the words on the plaque this evening. Finished writing the quarterly newsletter this afternoon. Praise the Lord for His help with that. Finished tucking all the ends in on the scarf this evening so the scarf is done now and ready to go to the mission for the homeless. “The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.” Exodus 30:15 The offering given to the Lord in the Old Testament to make an atonement for their souls is a picture of the offering for sin made by Christ in the New Testament. There is one offering for all, both rich and poor. There is no difference. There is only one offering for the atonement of our souls. |
