October 6. Back to clouds and cool weather today. October 7. Cloudy and cool again today, but no rain, and the sun peeked out now and then to help dry the clothes, and there was a nice breeze which helped as well. After Anna Jean did the laundry, she cut up a half pumpkin that I had cut half of several days ago. Then she swept the floors, had coffee and cookies, and went home. Most of my time today was spent on the rest of lesson preparations for the coming week. I was happy to take time out from that to talk with Martha. In the evening, Amos family, Gibson family, and Anna Jean came to meet with us for a time of fellowship. Each of those who came received a New Testament. Amos brought a message from Mark and Matthew about the scribes’ and Pharisees’ seeking to exalt themselves as rulers over the people. October 8. Cool and cloudy again today. Enjoyed a nice chat this morning with our daughters. Finished lesson plans for reading class. Fixed pictures and got e-mails ready to go to BLMF for their 55th anniversary celebration. Praise the Lord, the e-mail and pictures sent right out this afternoon as BLMF wanted them right away. Praise the Lord, too, for a handful of young men who came this evening for teaching from God’s word — Patrick, Graham, Esau and Howard, Nelson, and Topias.

October 4. Rained all night. Rained all morning. Cold and gray. No sunshine today. After breakfast and quiet time this morning, I finished setting up my new prayer journal. I just want to get the rest of the names of the young men before I print it out. Spent most of the rainy day working on Bible lessons. Would really like to get those finished for the rest of the year. Am about half way there. Praise the Lord for His help! The hardest part is making up worksheets. It started raining too hard this evening while Daddy and I were talking so we finally had to hang up. It never slowed down until about 9:00, but it was too late then. October 5. Praise the Lord for His tender mercies. I only heard rain one time when I awoke during the night, but it rained very lightly. By morning, the sun was shining, and that would dry up the airstrip enough for the plane to come. There was fog down at the river, but not the kind that comes up and spreads across the whole village and stays around for several hours. It was the kind that breaks apart and goes straight up into the air and soon disappears.. School went on as usual, but my phone was in my pocket. A few minutes after the students started recess, Daddy called and said they were about to board the plane. After recess, Bonita went on up to the airstrip and took an old plastic tablecloth to set cargo on and keep it out of the mud. She also took Daddy’s boots up for him to put on for his walk down to the house as the ground still had muddy places. The boys and I went ahead with school until we heard the roar of the plane engine. Then they were dismissed for the time being and hurried on up to the airstrip to help carry cargo. Gideon helped get cargo from people when they brought it to the house, and soon Bonita and Sunny came along and helped bring things into the house and give out chocolates. As soon as everything was in, and Daddy had arrived so I could give him a big welcome home hug, then it was back to school to finish math class and have a short reading class. After school, we had lunch and put away food items that went in the freezer and fridge. Then we had a nap, or tried to. The house had been overtaken by a very strong perfume smell. It took us a while to figure out where it was coming from, but we soon discovered that it was coming from the package that had come from the US. It was really powerful. We needed to open that box right away and find out what it was and why it was so strong. We finally discovered that a small bottle of jasmine oil apparently was not sealed or not sealed tightly, and the entire contents of the bottle had spilled out. Thankfully, most of the damage was contained in one plastic bag which also had two bottles of Vitamin C tablets and a one pound bag of stinging nettle leaf. I washed off those three items with soap and water and tried to rinse them well. Dried them with a rag, hoping that no water was able to seep into the bottles or foil bag. After that, I organized all the cookies into the cookie tote, had a bath before the air got too chilly, and started preparing supper. Daddy was happy to have spaghetti for a change after having meat pies, hamburgers, or chunky chicken sandwiches for the past two weeks. After supper, there was kitchen cleanup to do, dishes to wash, and lessons to look over for tomorrow. Then it was snack time and time to write in my journal. Before and after our devotions, I transferred pictures Daddy had gotten and set them up in my computer and fixed those. Daddy brought back two boxes of New Testaments plus a couple loose ones from a box that had been opened while he was in Goroka. The New Testaments have a very attractive cover. We are so thankful to BLMF for their gift of love to the people of PNG. We just wait for the men to finish the addition so we can bring in enough to have a day of dedication and distribution. October 2. Praise the Lord for sunshine this morning after the heavy downpour last night. By noon, the weather was already turning to rainy with drizzles every now and then. Back to school today. Praise the Lord for His strength and that things went well. Praise the Lord for Judy’s help with some of the drills. Judy said that a group of men did work at cutting the airstrip, but she didn’t know how many or when/if they finished because she was with me in school. She did say that they started in the middle and were working their way to the top, but did they get there before the rain came? Who knows? Nobody brought a report. After nap, the sun was shining a while again, and I was thankful that the air warmed up enough for me to be able to take a bath. Judy said that Amos and Mata have been going to English school every day except Monday (I think she said Monday). This evening, I worked on future Bible lessons for the rest of this last term of school. Have a good ways to go yet. So good to have time to talk with Daddy this evening even though we did get disconnected several times. It looks like Famiri is trying to work in a flight for him — perhaps tomorrow afternoon or Thursday morning. October 3. It rained all night again. After the fog lifted, the morning was somewhat sunny. I wasn’t expecting Anna Jean to come this morning to do laundry as she had been dealing with a bad boil; but she showed up right at 7:00. I hadn’t felt up to filling the washing machine so she had to do that first, but I was very thankful to get the laundry done. Anna Jean said her boil has been draining so she is feeling quite a bit better. I was thankful, too, that the clothes got almost all dry before the rains came. Just two large towels and a washcloth weren’t completely dry. As soon as school ended, I went to latch the front screen door after Bonita left and saw the rain down at the river. “It’s raining,” I said. “I’d better hurry and get the clothes in.” So off I dashed to get the clothes basket and clothespin bag. Hurried down the back steps and started taking down the clothes. The rain was already spitting a bit but not enough yet to make the clothes wet. I was glad that I got them in because it wasn’t long after that that the temperature began dropping, blustery winds began to blow, and a good rain came down. I knew that Daddy wouldn’t be coming home today. |
