October 4. Rained all night. Rained all morning. Cold and gray. No sunshine today. After breakfast and quiet time this morning, I finished setting up my new prayer journal. I just want to get the rest of the names of the young men before I print it out. Spent most of the rainy day working on Bible lessons. Would really like to get those finished for the rest of the year. Am about half way there. Praise the Lord for His help! The hardest part is making up worksheets. It started raining too hard this evening while Daddy and I were talking so we finally had to hang up. It never slowed down until about 9:00, but it was too late then. October 5. Praise the Lord for His tender mercies. I only heard rain one time when I awoke during the night, but it rained very lightly. By morning, the sun was shining, and that would dry up the airstrip enough for the plane to come. There was fog down at the river, but not the kind that comes up and spreads across the whole village and stays around for several hours. It was the kind that breaks apart and goes straight up into the air and soon disappears.. School went on as usual, but my phone was in my pocket. A few minutes after the students started recess, Daddy called and said they were about to board the plane. After recess, Bonita went on up to the airstrip and took an old plastic tablecloth to set cargo on and keep it out of the mud. She also took Daddy’s boots up for him to put on for his walk down to the house as the ground still had muddy places. The boys and I went ahead with school until we heard the roar of the plane engine. Then they were dismissed for the time being and hurried on up to the airstrip to help carry cargo. Gideon helped get cargo from people when they brought it to the house, and soon Bonita and Sunny came along and helped bring things into the house and give out chocolates. As soon as everything was in, and Daddy had arrived so I could give him a big welcome home hug, then it was back to school to finish math class and have a short reading class. After school, we had lunch and put away food items that went in the freezer and fridge. Then we had a nap, or tried to. The house had been overtaken by a very strong perfume smell. It took us a while to figure out where it was coming from, but we soon discovered that it was coming from the package that had come from the US. It was really powerful. We needed to open that box right away and find out what it was and why it was so strong. We finally discovered that a small bottle of jasmine oil apparently was not sealed or not sealed tightly, and the entire contents of the bottle had spilled out. Thankfully, most of the damage was contained in one plastic bag which also had two bottles of Vitamin C tablets and a one pound bag of stinging nettle leaf. I washed off those three items with soap and water and tried to rinse them well. Dried them with a rag, hoping that no water was able to seep into the bottles or foil bag. After that, I organized all the cookies into the cookie tote, had a bath before the air got too chilly, and started preparing supper. Daddy was happy to have spaghetti for a change after having meat pies, hamburgers, or chunky chicken sandwiches for the past two weeks. After supper, there was kitchen cleanup to do, dishes to wash, and lessons to look over for tomorrow. Then it was snack time and time to write in my journal. Before and after our devotions, I transferred pictures Daddy had gotten and set them up in my computer and fixed those. Daddy brought back two boxes of New Testaments plus a couple loose ones from a box that had been opened while he was in Goroka. The New Testaments have a very attractive cover. We are so thankful to BLMF for their gift of love to the people of PNG. We just wait for the men to finish the addition so we can bring in enough to have a day of dedication and distribution.
