August 6. The Morrows left at 7:30 this morning for a craft show in another area. After breakfast, Daddy and I packed up for our trip to LaCrosse. Then I did some crocheting and wrote some e-mails. A little after 11:00, we and Amanda ate lunch together; and around noon, we loaded up things in the car and started on our journey. In the car, I finished crocheting the baby bonnet to go with the dress. Made one pit stop along the way. When we got to Tomah, we stopped at WalMart and exercised our legs walking around the store. While we were there, I found some pretty pink ribbon for the hat. Will also add some ribbon to the dress, but didn’t have any sewing stuff with me in my crochet bag. Daddy looked again for a watch, but Walmart doesn’t have digital watches with expandable strap like he wants. He also looked for shoes, but there wasn’t much selection of men’s shoes at all, other than sport shoes. We made one more pit stop as we got to Holmen (near LaCrosse) so we wouldn’t have to rush and do that as soon as we got to the home where we will be staying for the weekend. Brad and Ann Rediske are our hosts. They have three children - two daughters who are out working so we didn’t meet them this evening, and a son who will be a freshman in high school this fall. The Rediskes have a nice house which was built for them here, and we have a nice quiet room in the basement. The children’s bedrooms are all in the basement which is fully furnished. After supper, we sat out on the deck and talked until 8:30 or so. Now we are tired and preparing to go to bed soon. August 7. Praise the Lord for a comfortable sleep last night. We left around 8:30 this morning for LaCrosse. Followed the Rediskes to Faith Baptist Church, arriving around 9:00. Set up our display and talked with Pastor Terpstra and other people before Sunday school which was at 9:30. We could not find the DVD with our slide presentation anywhere. Must have left it at Madison. Thankfully Ann was able to find the video presentation online. We noticed, however, that it isn’t the updated one. During the Sunday school hour, the presentation was shown, and the rest of the time was used for question/answer session. Pastor Terpstra preached in the main meeting from Romans 7:7-25, The Enemy Within. We were able to find our own way back to the Rediskes house using GPS, as the Rediskes had to make a stop somewhere else. Pastor Terpstra came and joined us for lunch of sandwiches, chips, and finger veggies. He left early to go home and sleep, as he had gotten back from Florida late yesterday evening and gotten to bed even later so was quite tired. His wife is still in Florida with their son and wife and grandchildren, including a new baby. Daddy set the GPS to take us back to church in the evening as the Rediskes had to leave early for a VBS meeting at church. Daddy and I left a little before 5:00 for a 6:00 meeting. Arrived around 5:30 and had time to talk with folks before the meeting. Daddy preached the evening message “Mission Unaccomplished”, and gave a good missions challenge. Spent a good amount of time talking with people after the meeting, including the pastor. Came home and had a light supper and spent more time chatting with the Rediskes before they went to bed. They will leave out for work early in the morning. and their son will be gone before we get up. Now it is 10:30, and time for bed. Good night. “26And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled. 27And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.” Acts 14:26,27 It is important for us, as with Paul and Barnabas, when our work has been fulfilled which we have been sent to do, to return to those who sent us, gather the church together, and rehearse all that God has done together with us.

August 3. Was up for a while in the middle of the night last night dealing with a sore throat and bad earache. Had taken Clear Lungs before bed. Took Echinacea and white willow during the night, but the earache just kept getting worse. Finally ended up taking Ibuprofen. Ugh! Up by 6:00 this morning so I could shower and wash my hair before our hosts got up. After breakfast, we packed a few things to take with us this afternoon. Then we went for a very short walk because it was already pretty warm and quite humid. When we got back, I finished up the e-mail to Connie and sent that off with some pictures. Then we talked for a while with the Morrows. Before lunch, we packed up a few things to take with us to Madison later in the afternoon. Finished packing up after nap. Left Black Creek about 3:00 and headed for Madison using the GPS someone had given to Palmers to give to a missionary. Palmers gave it to Daddy. We got the GPS confused a couple times when we took a different road or made a pit stop. Stopped at a Walmart Subway in Sun Prairie for supper. Arrived at Madison Baptist Church around 6:00. Sat in the car a few minutes, and then the pastor came over. The parsonage is next door to the church. After greeting the pastor, we went inside. Daddy got changed into his suit while I set up the display. The next person to arrive was Pat. What a joy to finally meet Pat! We had a few minutes to chat with her until other people started coming in. There were a good number of folks in attendance at the meetings, including children and young people. Pat sat with Daddy and me. After a few songs and announcements, Pastor Weiss turned the meeting over to Daddy. Daddy showed the presentation first. That was followed by question/answer time, and then preaching. His topic was “Why Do Missionaries…?” and he gave Biblical reasons for different aspects of missionary work. At 8:00, prayer lists were handed out and people divided up to pray. Daddy prayed with the pastor, and Pat and I prayed together. We enjoyed the fellowship and talking with other people after the meeting. Then we headed over to the pastor’s house where we are staying in their basement apartment. The pastor took Daddy and me out for a bite to eat, and his eldest son Daniel went along too. Daddy and I weren’t really hungry. I just had a scoop of ice cream, and Daddy had two. We were glad for the time with Pastor Weiss. “And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.” Acts 13:52 Persecution should cause us to be filled with joy and with the Holy Ghost. August 4. Both of us are tired this evening. We slept in until almost 6:30 this morning, thankful for a comfortable and quiet night. Didn’t have to hurry to go anywhere as we were to go to Pat’s at 11:00 for fellowship and then lunch. Had breakfast and quiet time. Looked through books that Pastor Weiss said we could choose from and picked out a few. About 10:15, we loaded up the car and went over to the church to get directions to Pat’s house. Pastor was out so David looked up directions on the internet and printed them out. Gave the pastor a bilum to give his wife. Then he prayed with us before we left for Pat’s. The directions to Pat’s house were a bit complicated, but we finally found it. Actually it turned out good that we got there a bit late because she had been out getting the food for lunch and just drove up as we were ready to find our way into the building. She beeped her horn, and we waited for her. Her apartment is on the third floor, and we were happy to go up on the elevator. We sat and talked until Darlene came to join us for lunch. While we were waiting, I asked Pat to share her testimony, and then she asked for mine. At 12:00, Darlene arrived. She is another church member who faithfully prays for us. Shortly, we sat down for lunch and more fellowship together. Around 1:30, we got ready to leave. Had a couple stops to make on the way back. What a wonderful time we had had together! I praise the Lord for such a dear friend! We weren’t on the road long, before my eyes closed, and I was in dreamland. Woke up when Daddy pulled off an exit in Fond du Lac. We stopped at Love’s first - pit stop and gas. They are having a gas war down there, and gas was down to $2.02 today. Then we stopped at Kwik Trip because we had seen that the bananas were only 38 cents a pound. On the way to our next stop, Walmart, we could see that the skies were getting pretty dark. We hoped we would get there before the rain started. Praise the Lord, we just got into the store when it started pouring. Thankfully it was a short shower and was over by the time we were ready to leave. Daddy had knocked his watch on the floor during the night, and it stopped working. He wanted to try to get it fixed or get a new one. While he was checking on that, I went to find some little pink buttons for the baby dress I had just finished. Found some pretty buttons, but Daddy didn’t find anyone to help him with his watch. Paid for the buttons and then went to Dollar Tree to get an anniversary card for the Morrows whose anniversary is the same day as Daddy’s birthday. Also wanted to get more snacks for the road. Back on the road again and headed for Black Creek. Another storm was brewing, and we arrived back at the Morrows’ just before it hit. Praise the Lord for a safe trip back! Grace and Don fixed pancakes, sausage, and eggs for supper. After supper, Daddy had a nap. I talked with Don and Grace for a while. When Daddy got up, we got out the computers. August 5. Was really tired last night, and went to bed a bit early. Today was a quieter and more relaxing day, and it didn’t get very hot today. Right after breakfast, I put in a load of laundry, and then Daddy and I went for a walk. When we got back, I sewed the buttons on the baby dress, wrote an e-mail to the girls and sent them a vitamin order, worked on transferring and editing pictures. This afternoon, I wrote a couple thank you notes and started hemming on my my good dress. After supper, we went for another walk. Tried to take some more pictures, but the camera batteries were low so some of the pictures didn’t come out too good. “Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.” Acts 14:22 It is important to return to the churches that have been established under our ministry, to confirm the souls of the disciples, to exhort them to continue in the faith, and to remind them that they will face much tribulation on this earth. August 1. Praise the Lord for a safe trip today and good time starting to get acquainted with the Morrows! I was hoping to be up by 6:00 this morning, but it was 6:20 again before I woke up and found that Daddy was already gone from the room. Got up and dressed. Made sure I had some quiet time before packing up. We didn’t need to hurry as we only had a short distance to go. Enjoyed breakfast and chat time with the Palmers before getting everything packed and loading up the car. It was still a bit early to leave so we sat down again and chatted some more. A little after 9:30 we said good-bye to the Palmers and headed north to Black Creek. Stopped at the Fox River Mall in Appleton, thinking we would go to GNC and try to find a supplement. As we turned into the mall, however, we saw a Vitamin Shoppe right on the corner so stopped there. Arrived at the Morrows around 11:00. It was a joy to meet them at last - Don, Grace, and their daughter Amanda. And, of course, their huge dog, Bear. He didn’t know quite what to think of us at first, but gradually realized that we are friends. The Morrows live in a nice big farmhouse with a big red barn in the back. Most of today was spent getting acquainted. It is a blessing to be with people who are like-minded in many ways regarding God’s word. After lunch, they showed us around the house. After supper, we all (except Grace) went for a walk on some of the pathways Don has mowed around the property. It was a refreshing walk. In the evening, we showed them our slide presentation and the books on PNG and sat and chatted a while. August 2. It was about 11:00 when Daddy and I got to bed last night, but we were awake around 6:00 this morning. Sun gets up early here in Wisconsin. After getting dressed and having some quiet time, we went out to the kitchen. There we chatted with Don and Grace for some time before sitting down for breakfast. Most of the rest of the morning was spent at the computer, getting yesterday’s journal notes completed and transferring and editing pictures. Had taken quite a few pictures on our walks around the property. In the afternoon, after nap, I finished editing the pictures. After supper this evening, we went for a ride with the Morrows... made a stop at a HUGE grocery store called Woodman’s where we got some low-fat yogurt, All-Bran, and juice. When we came back, we sat and chatted again in their living room, and we enjoyed that special time with them. Then Beatrice returned a call that Daddy had made earlier, and we talked with her a few minutes, making arrangements to go over to Minnetonka next Monday and spend a couple days with her. She is excited about our coming, and it will be good to see her again. “38Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: 39And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.” Acts 13:38,39 July 30. Praise the Lord for sunshine and a nice breeze today. Just before sitting down to breakfast, I put a load of clothes in to wash. Daddy and I hung them up right after breakfast. Then I helped Hazel with the dishes. Around 9:30, we left here for Oshkosh. Stopped at WalMart, and Daddy went in to pay the rent and get a 24-pack of bottled water. While he was in the store, I called Christy and talked with her for a while. When Daddy came out, we headed over to the Wings As Eagles hangar. There were already quite a few cars there. Enjoyed fellowship with Juanita W and some of the other ladies while some of the staff were still busy getting everything ready for lunch. Around 11:30, we sat down to eat - hot dogs, hamburgers, salad fixins, chips ‘n’ dip, desserts, lots of other things. I just had a salad and a few chips. After lunch, people sat at the hangar entrance or outside and watched the EAA (Experimental Aviation Association) air show. Daddy got my chair out of the car, and I put my legs up and closed my eyes until he called me around 2:00. Daddy and eight other missionaries and pastors who are involved in aviation or who depend on aviation for their ministry had been asked to be on a panel, and other folks asked them questions about their ministries. That went for about an hour. Then we set up our video presentation and a few people stood around and watched that. Afterward Daddy and I went out back toward the runways, watched the air show for a while, and took a few pictures. After leaving the hangar, we went to the church and took down our display before heading back to the Palmers’ place. Stopped at Dollar Tree and got a few snacks and cold beverages for the road. I had no idea how late it was until Daddy said it was after 5:00. We should have called the Palmers to let them know we were on our way, but we were almost there now. Hazel had dinner about ready when we got there - just had a couple things to heat up. I got the table set for her while she got the food ready. When supper was over, Daddy and I went out and brought in the clothes we had hung out in the morning. We had almost forgotten about them. After we got them put away, I lay down on the bed, very sleepy. It was a little after 6:00. When I woke up, it was a little after 7:00. Praise the Lord for His blessings today. July 31. The last day of July. I don’t know why, but it seems like July has been a very long month. The days all went by so slowly, it seemed like it would always be July. A nice sunny day today. Daddy thought about going to Waupun to church this morning since the meeting we thought we had scheduled didn’t work out. He was looking up information about when their meetings started, when I went upstairs to lie down. About 20 minutes before time to go, I started feeling very dizzy. Didn’t know if I would make it upstairs or not, but I was thankful I did so I could lie down on a comfortable bed. I wouldn’t be going anywhere feeling like that. So Daddy decided he would just go on to Wyldewood. I slept for about 45 minutes (I think) and then was able to get up although I still felt pretty weak for a while. Felt a fair bit better by noon. Had a little lunch. Did some crocheting and waited to see if Daddy would be back before I took a nap. He arrived back a little after 1:00 and had his lunch. Then we had our afternoon nap. The Palmers had company this afternoon, a couple named Larry and Dot from Marshfield. They had been in Oshkosh today for the EAA show and stopped by on their way home. We met them and said hello a few minutes before coming downstairs. Finished up the last lesson in a set of Sunday school lessons. Need to figure out now what pictures to put with them; then print and proofread and make corrections before printing final copies, and have Connie make visuals to go with them. After finishing the lessons, I did a little crocheting. Daddy was busy studying for preaching this evening. Around 5:15, we left for Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church in Fond du Lac. There were perhaps a dozen people there this evening, counting the pastor and us. Pastor Kennedy said that not many come out in the evenings, and also a number of folks are away right now. But the group that was there were very friendly, asked a lot of questions, listened attentively, and showed much interest in the work. They were a real blessing to us. We arrived back at the Palmers around 8:00, had a light supper, and enjoyed conversation around the table. “20And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus. 21And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.” When we speak to others, we are to preach the Lord Jesus. It is through the preaching of the cross that souls will be saved. July 29. Last night was another late night. We had expected to get home earlier than the night before, but got home about the same time. About 6:00 yesterday afternoon, we headed for Wyldewood Baptist Church in Oshkosh for their Meeting in the Air. Arrived around 6:30, and Jim Blume was the first person we ran into. It was good to see him. He was there with his son-in-law Stan. Blumes have only been back from the field about six months. Bro. Jim had some health issues which he needed to get taken care of. He is hoping that he will have a clean bill of health and be able to go back soon and get back into flying. He said Mary will probably not get to go with him as her health is not that good right now. We got our display set up and talked to a few people. Met Pastor Brenenstuhl. Meeting started at 7:00. Daddy and two others each gave a short testimony. Pastor Witte from Michigan preached on being “moved with compassion.” After the meeting, we saw the Warinners and the Hoffmans. I talked with Monica for a while near our display while Jim want off to take care of something else. After a while, a caravan of missionary and pastor cars all headed for the pastor’s house in Omro where we had more food and fellowship. The men all sat around the kitchen and talked, and the women were in the living room. There were only a handful of women there. So that’s why we were late getting “home” again last night. For today, the weather prediction was for sunshine, but it is very rainy. I got up a little before 7:00 and cut up peaches for our breakfast. After breakfast and fellowship around the breakfast table, I went downstairs for quiet time. Then Daddy and I headed for WalMart. He got the tire checked out because it seems to have a slow leak; and while they were repairing that, we purchased a few items in the store. This afternoon, after nap, The Palmers took us thrift store shopping. I was thankful to find four blouses that I can use. When we got back to the house, it was time to fix supper. While I helped with dishes afterward, Daddy got ready to go to Oshkosh. I did not go tonight as I am getting too tired out. “42And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. 43To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.” Acts 10:42,43 All the prophets gave witness to Jesus, that whosoever believeth shall receive remission of sins. The apostles were commanded to preach and to testify that Jesus was the one of whom the prophets spoke. We also are to preach and testify that Jesus is the One whom God ordained to be the Judge of the quick and the dead and to provide remission of sins through the shedding of his blood. July 27 and 28. It was just about 11:30 when we arrived home last night from Green Bay -- too late to write in journal. We’ll see if I can remember yesterday’s events. First thing in the morning, I came downstairs where it is quiet and had my quiet time. Then we had breakfast together with the Palmers. They like to sit around the table and just chat for a good while when breakfast is over. Then I helped Hazel clear up the table and do dishes. Close to mid-morning, I came back downstairs. Just worked on crocheting a while as Daddy and I planned to go to the library and use the internet. Library would open at 10:00. The library was pleasant, and the librarian was very helpful. Gave us an extension cord and power bar to use while we were there. We were able to receive e-mails and send one off to Connie with journal notes and pictures. Daddy looked up the projector manual to find out how to get sound from our computer to our projector. It has been a long time since we used the projector and we couldn’t remember how to do it. We were thankful to get an answer for that; and after we got back from the library, we tried it out. Praise the Lord, it works now! Did a little more crocheting until we went out with the Palmers for lunch at a pizza place which had a salad bar and hot food bar. On the way home, Ken drove us out to see Lake Winnebago. We didn’t go around the lake, because it is 100 miles around. It would be a pretty place to have a picnic. When we got back to the house, Daddy and I took a nap. I worked on a Sunday school lesson for a little bit after nap. Made a little snack-lunch for us to take on the road, and got everything packed up that we needed to take with us. Left here around 4:45 for Green Bay, giving time for traffic jams or whatever. The Lord gave us smooth sailing, however, and we arrived at our destination, First Bible Baptist Church, by 6:00 - an hour early. We sat in the car a while and ate a little supper snack. Then we went inside and set up our display. People were already there. It was a blessing to see a good group of people, including a good number of young people. A man in charge set up our DVD video to be played later. Pastor Keck came to the back and introduced himself to us. He was dressed casually, and Daddy was in a suit and had on a tie. He told Daddy that he forgot to let him know that Wednesday evening is casual. Daddy was happy to shed his suit jacket and tie. People were very friendly. Daddy didn’t speak, but the video was shown. Following the service, I talked with several people, but spent a little more time with a teenage young man. He had heard in the video that I had struggled with assurance of salvation as a child and wanted to hear my testimony. I was happy to share my testimony with him. I figured there must have been a reason why he asked about my testimony, so then I asked him, “Are you saved?” He hesitated a few seconds and then said, “I’m saved but having the same problem you did. I’m still trying to find assurance.” Then I shared with him briefly how I had taught my students about God’s assurance promises in the gospel of John and encouraged him to read through John and take note of all those verses. Told him I would be praying for him. Another lady wanted to talk after that, but we had to go because it was 9:00, and the Matthews family was taking us out to eat. They wanted to get to Culvers before it closed. We enjoyed good fellowship with the Matthews while we ate. Don’t know what time we left Culvers - some time after 10:00. Daddy woke up early this morning, but I slept in until almost 7:00. It was cool and cloudy most of the day - nice to have the house opened and a refreshing breeze blowing through. Daddy took a nap later in the morning. I did some crocheting and worked on Sunday school lessons for Owena. “The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.” Exodus 15:2 How thankful I am for a personal God! He is my everything. He is all I need. July 25. It was after 11:00 central time before we finally got done with showers and got to bed last night. Slept in until after 6:30 this morning. Washed my hair. Had breakfast and quiet time. Did a little packing up. Then we went upstairs to see what the weather was like and if it were cool enough to go for a little walk. Pastor Matties was in his office, and he asked if we’d like to go out for breakfast and fellowship. We had already eaten a bowl of cereal, but said we could just get some fruit or something and spend some time together. His wife had already eaten so didn’t want to go. We went to Grandma’s Family Restaurant (I think it was called) close to MacDonalds where we were last night. I actually ended up getting French toast, and Daddy had French toast with eggs on top. We knew we wouldn’t need any lunch later, and we didn’t. It was 10:00 when we got back to the church. Daddy drove the car up in front of the church building, and we packed up. Then I went over to the house to see if Margaret (pastor’s wife) would come over to the church so I could get a photo of her and Pastor. Also took some close-up pictures of the corn “as high as an elephant’s eye” next to the church. Before we left, Daddy took a couple pictures of me by the corn. After chatting a little bit, we said good-bye and headed for Fond du Lac, WI. We didn’t have to be at Lighthouse until 3:00 so didn’t worry about hurry. After we got into Fond du Lac, we bought a few groceries at WalMart and Aldi, tried to get directions to LBBC, and also got gas. Our directions for getting to the church didn’t seem to be right. Part of the problem, we found out later, is that the street names keep changing, and also the streets go in all kinds of crazy directions. Finally Daddy called Pastor Kennedy and he gave us directions to the church. We met him there, and he took us out to the home of Ken and Hazel Palmer where we are staying for the week. When we first arrived, we sat out back with the Palmers and Pastor Kennedy talking for quite a while. Pastor Kennedy called pastor Keck in Green Bay and arranged for Daddy to show our presentation there on Wednesday evening. After pastor left, the Palmers showed us our room, the basement, and other parts of the house. Then Hazel started supper while Ken helped us bring our stuff in. After supper, I helped Hazel with the dishes. The men talked about directions for getting back to the church so Daddy can know how to get back there tomorrow with pastor to pass out tracts. Then they decided to go for a ride to make sure the directions were right. They were glad they went all the way there because they found that they weren’t completely right. While they were gone, Hazel and I spent some time fellowshiping together. “And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?... Acts 9:6a We don’t need to wait until the Lord has to do something drastic to get our attention; but daily we can ask “Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?” or at other times, “Lord, what will thou have me to do in this situation?” July 26. Sunlight was beaming in through the window before 5:00 this morning. We didn’t get up until a little after 6:00 however. Went downstairs and had quiet time and crocheted while waiting for our host and hostess to get up and around. Then we had breakfast and chatted a while. I did laundry, and Daddy helped me hang it outside. It was a pretty morning and a little cooler than the past few mornings. Didn’t take long for the day to warm up, however. About 9:45, Daddy took off for the church to meet Pastor Kennedy and they went visiting together. I spent most of the rest of the morning editing and resizing pictures I had added to the computer yesterday evening. After lunch, I got in the clothes. I was feeling pretty weary by then and slept quite a while at nap time. This afternoon, I got journal notes ready for Connie and set up a couple e-mails with the notes and a bunch of pictures. Daddy and I tried to figure out why the sound wouldn’t come through the projector from the computer along with the video, but we didn’t figure it out. Finally decided we will go to the library tomorrow to use the internet and do some troubleshooting. Went outside for a good while after that and sat and talked with Ken and Hazel. Did some more crocheting while I was talking. Ken fixed hamburgers on the grill, and we had those for supper along with baked beans, potato salad, finger veggies, and cantaloupe. Then there was rhubarb cake with ice cream for dessert. Sat at the table and chatted for about an hour. Then Hazel and I did dishes. About 8:30, Christy called to discuss a job interview she had today as they want her to make a decision by tomorrow. It looks like making a hasty decision would not be the best thing to do at this time. After that, Daddy and I came downstairs, and here I am writing in my journal. “Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.” Acts 9:31 July 23. Praise the Lord for a good night’s rest. Left around 8:00 this morning. Along the way, we saw field after field after field of corn and soybeans. Gained an hour when we crossed from Indiana into Illinois. Stopped at a rest area a short ways into Illinois and stayed there a little longer than we had planned. But it was a very restful and enjoyable stop. Took lots of pictures - an old, old road scraper, lots of beautiful flowers, a large pond with a sign that said “Do Not Feed the Geese” (but we didn’t see any geese), a short shady walking trail. How we enjoyed the beautiful flowers and trees and other things that God had created! Later in the morning (after noon eastern time), we stopped for lunch at Woody’s Family Restaurant #3 in a place called Minont. Daddy had cod fish with mashed potatoes, corn, and a side salad. I ordered a nacho supreme salad. We both had lemon water to drink. Then we splurged and had a soft cone for dessert - only 99c for a very generous helping. On to our destination in Creston after that. Just a little bitty town of about 800 people, but still had a hard time finding someone who knew where Grove St. was where New Beginnings Baptist Church is located. Arrived at the Rooses’ house (next to the church) around mid-afternoon. After getting things in from the car, we had a welcome nap. Then we went over to the church, and Pastor and Linda showed us around. We sat over there and talked for a good while before going back to the house. Sister Linda grilled hamburgers for supper, and we had fresh corn on the cob, squash casserole, green beans…. After supper, we talked for a while in the living room. Then Daddy and I worked together on some notes for Sunday school, as Pastor Roose wanted him to tell as much as he could about how the people in Owena lived. “30And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? 31And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.” Acts 8:30,31 Some people can get saved just by reading the Scriptures, but most people need guidance in order to understand what the Scripture says and means. That’s why God told us all to go and preach the gospel to every creature. Some don’t even have Scripture to read, but need to hear and then to have the Scriptures written for them. July 24. After Daddy got the notes printed out last night for this morning’s Sunday school lesson, we were tired and took showers so we could go to bed. It was early (Central Time), but our bodies were still on Eastern Time. We woke up early for the same reason, but managed to keep abed until almost 6:00 central time. After I got into bed last night, I kept hearing a very loud rumbling noise. Couldn’t figure out what it was at first. I thought, Who in the world is doing construction this time of night on a Saturday night? Then I looked out the bedroom window. Wow! What a sight! One lightning flash right after another. That’s why there was all that noise - continuous loud rumbling, roaring, and rolling of thunder. It never ceased for some time after I went to sleep. Power went out for a little while. This morning after getting dressed, reading Bible, etc., we got our own breakfast, although Linda did fix eggs and toast for Daddy. The Rooses had gotten up around 6:00 and had their coffee on the deck. It was already hot outside early this morning. Daddy and I went for a very short walk around the church block. As soon as we stepped outside, my glasses steamed up from the humid heat. We went over to the church early to set up the display table and slide projector. For some reason, we could not get the sound to work at all through the projector so we ended up putting a microphone on the computer speaker. After getting everything set up, we went back to the house for a while. A good number of people were there for the meetings even though a number were sick and some were away for a funeral. Daddy showed the video at the beginning of Sunday school and then told more about life in PNG. Many asked questions at the end of Sunday school. With the Lord’s help, Daddy did a good job of preaching a message entitled “Mission Unaccomplished.” People were very friendly and hung around and talked for a while after the meeting. We really enjoyed the people and the good fellowship with them. After everyone left, we went and packed up the car. Then we followed the Rooses to Rochelle, about five miles down the highway, where we had lunch with them and with their daughter and family at a family restaurant. Daddy and I each ordered from the senior citizens’ menu, but we still had huge helpings of food. Besides our main dish of meat, potatoes, and veggies, there was a side salad, soup, and dessert. We praise the Lord for the blessings of the morning. After dinner, we said good-bye to the Rooses and headed for Belvidere. Here we are staying in the prophet’s chamber of Bible Baptist Church, which is in the basement of the church - comfortable and quiet. Arrived here around 3:30 and met Pastor Matties. He showed us the church and helped us get things in and taken to the prophet’s chamber. They do have a video screen and we tried to set up our video, but Pastor didn’t know how to do it, and Daddy couldn’t figure it out. So we would wait until later when someone else could do it. In the meantime, we went down to our little chamber and had a nice nap. After nap, we got the display table set up and then freshened up and changed clothes before the evening meeting. We had never met Pastor Matties before, but he had invited Daddy to preach. People came early for choir practice, and we got to meet many of them and talk with them before the meeting. There is no air conditioning in this building, and a lot of the ladies used fans. A large fan was put on the platform for Daddy to have air blowing on him as he preached. Amazingly, though, it is quite comfortable inside the building, considering how hot it is outside. After the singing, we all went into the fellowship room where the video screen is, and they watched our presentation. Then Pastor Matties had said he was going to put me on the spot and told me to follow him up front. What was up his sleeve? It wasn’t too bad. He gave people time to ask questions, and I was to answer them, after the pastor gave his idea of what the answer would be. We all had some good laughs. After that, we went back into the auditorium where Daddy was given the liberty to preach as long as he wanted. He tried to stay within their normal time frame, however. Preached again the “Mission Unaccomplished” message. We really enjoyed our time with these dear people as well. After all had left, the Matties took us out for a bite to eat at McDonalds. I just had a smoothie and Daddy had iced mocha. We had had so much for dinner, we weren’t very hungry. Now it is after 11:00 p.m. (eastern time) and time to shower and go to bed. Praise the Lord for answered prayer today and his blessings upon the meetings and upon our lives. “But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.” Acts 8:40 Philip too preached in all the cities through which he passed. Isn’t that the task our Lord gave us in Acts 1:8 – to preach the word everywhere? July 21. Praise the Lord for His goodness and His watch care over us today. Up at 6:00 this morning to wash hair, have breakfast, have some spiritual food, do last minute packing. By 8:00 the car was packed up and we were ready to go. After prayer and saying good-bye to Connie (we had already said good-bye to Christy earlier as she had to be off to work), we were on the road. It seemed like a long day, meandering along those winding mountain roads. We made several pit stops and stopped for lunch at Subway at a Pilot truck stop in Pioneer, TN, about 20 miles from the Kentucky border. A truck driver came in and sat at the table next to us, and we engaged in a conversation with him. He’s been driving truck for 30 years. Used to drive coast to coast, but now only from Wisconsin to Colorado. He is from PA, however - Mansfield - close to where Daddy used to live, and he was excited about meeting someone who knew that area. When we left, we gave him a tract, which he was already reading while we were still talking with him. I pray God’s word in the tract will bear fruit unto life eternal. After lunch, Daddy filled up with gas and noticed the back tire on driver’s side was low. There was no gauge at Pilot for measuring the air so we went on up 75 until we came to Williamsburg, KY, where there was a WalMart. Sure enough, it was low. The air pressure only measured 22 and it should be 36. They pumped it up for him, but we’ll need to keep an eye on it. Don’t know why it was down so. It was 3:30 p.m. when we finally found a motel to stop at for the night - Holiday Motel in Berea, KY, right next to Cracker Barrell. It is an old motel, but pretty on the outside and well kept up and clean on the inside. Has microwave and fridge which we were needing and are thankful for. I was so happy to get out of the car. My legs were long since numb, and it took me a few minutes to get moving, and then very slowly. Did a lot of crocheting along the way, and read more of Dr. Comfort’s book Last Things. A lot of sobering facts and food for thought. “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.” Acts 8:12 When they believed the preaching, they were baptized. If a person truly believes, they will have no doubts about whether they should be baptized or not. Baptism easily follows true faith in Christ and shows to the world that we have become new creatures and have new life in Christ. July 22. Praise the Lord for a comfortable bed and good night’s rest at the motel. We didn’t hurry to get going this morning as our trip would be a little shorter. Still woke up around 6:00. After getting dressed and having quiet time, we went down to the office to see what was available at the continental breakfast bar. The only thing for me was some cheerios. I took a half bowlful of those and went back to the room. Added some All Bran, a banana, and milk. After breakfast, we got the car loaded up. It was a little after 8:00 when we left the motel so still got started around the same time as yesterday. Did more praying, crocheting, and reading along the way, and also sent a couple text messages. We had already arrived at our town of destination (Avon, IN) before we found a place to stop for lunch. It was around 1:30 before we got to eat. Enjoyed a nice meal at the Longhorn Steakhouse. About 2:15 when we left there, and not far down the road we found Faith Baptist Church where we are staying in the prophet’s chamber for tonight. We are thankful for the availability of these facilities. It was around 3:00 before we got settled in and settled down for a nice long nap. How thankful I was for the rest! “And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.” Acts 8:25 The word of God must be preached in all the world, for faith comes by hearing the word of God. July 18. Started packing for our trip this morning and got some more done this evening. A lot of time was spent writing e-mails today and getting some necessary business taken care of before our trip. I printed 75 more copies of the flag tract, cut 100 of them (25 had been printed yesterday); and Connie stapled and folded 50 of them. She will do the other 50 tomorrow. Then, Lord willing, we can get them mailed on Wednesday. Got this past week’s journal notes together in a file to send to Connie along with some pictures. Carlos came early this evening to look at our car window. He says it needs a new motor, which will cost $85, not $400 like Christy was told by someone else. Daddy gave him some money to buy a motor, and he is going to come back tomorrow evening to put it in the car. “And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.” Acts 7:60 How do we respond to those who hurt us? Do we love our enemies and ask the Lord to forgive them? July 19. A very busy day. Did a little more packing this morning after breakfast and quiet time. Then it was off to the chiropractor and shopping. From Dr. Prime’s office, we went to Crossroads Thrift Store. I was thankful to find a number of things I was looking for today -- a few blouses and a couple other items. On top of that, there was a lovely white dress. In the center of the dress front, however, there was a little spot. Maybe a little bleach would take it out, however. Daddy found a nice suit, but I’ll need to take down the cuffs on the pant legs. He really needed another one. On the way to Crossroads, we saw that there was a new little salvage store at the very end of that block of stores. So after our thrift store shopping, we stopped at the salvage store. The owner’s name is Ginger. She was very nice. They have some food, but quite a variety of other items. Found a couple skeins of yarn, but mostly we got food. Most of the fridge and freezer food was only 50 cents or a dollar. Found some nice organic drinks to take on our trip and some organic crackers and fruit-nut grain bars. After that, we came back home and put away the foods we had bought. We were surprised to see that it was almost 12:00 already. So decided that our next stop would be Subway for lunch. From Subway, we went to Incredible Edibles, then Big Lots, Mighty Dollar, WalMart, and Aldi before getting back home around 2:00. Time for nap. This afternoon, I checked over the clothes we had bought today, cut shoulder pads out of one, cut the sleeves off another, took the cuffs down on Daddy’s suit trousers, then put those items in the hamper to be washed tomorrow. I also put spray ‘n’ wash on the spot on that white dress; and lo and behold, it took the stain right out without having to use bleach. Washed the dress and hung it on the bathtub. Didn’t want to hang it outside where a little birdie might make another spot on it. While we were out, Connie stapled and folded the last 50 copies of the flag tract. We had bought a mailer for them at WalMart so this afternoon, I was able to get them all wrapped up and packed into the mailer. Wrote a short letter to David and Amos to stick in the packet, sealed it up and addressed it, and it is ready to be mailed tomorrow. It was very hot today - 95º on the thermometer near WalMart. Carlos came again this evening with the motor for the window. Praise the Lord, it was only $55 and not $85. $85 is the price for the one on the driver’s side. We are grateful that he got that all fixed for us before our trip. “Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.” Acts 8:4 The persecution helped to push the disciples into beginning to fulfill the great commission. God did not want them to wait until all of Jerusalem was reached before they began moving toward the uttermost. At this time, they only went into Judaea and Samaria. And when they went into Judaea and Samaria, they went EVERYWHERE preaching the word. July 20. Pretty worn out this evening after another busy day. Laundry to do and finish packing. The packing took most of the day. Also wrote a couple e-mails, sent a couple text messages, did the dishes, and gave Daddy’s hair a proper cutting. Hopefully the hair cut will be good for the next four weeks. We packed a few things into the van and will do the rest early in the morning. Daddy took the package of tracts to the Post Office and mailed them. We pray that they will arrive safely at their destination. “And there was great joy in that city.” Acts 8:8 When the word is preached and souls are saved, there should always be great joy. |
