July 17. It has been a long day. We left a bit earlier for church this morning since Cindie didn’t go and Christy has to be there a bit early for nursery. Mrs. O’Malley was at church today, and I sat next to her in Sunday school class and chatted with her a bit. Mary M was on the other side of me. Mrs. Surrett continued teaching from the book of Esther. In the church meeting, Pastor Ogle preached from Genesis 3 on The Day That Changed All Humans. In light of all the wickedness in the world today, he wondered what Adam and Eve would think if they could look down (maybe they can - my thought) and see how their sin has affected the whole human race. Praise God, the story does not end with the consequences of sin, but with the cure for sin. This evening, we went early again as there was a bridal shower for Amber L. Pastor started a series on economics this evening. It was more of an introductory type message showing a number of Biblical principles about money, its use, wealth and poverty, etc. Then we talked with Mr. B who is from Clover, SC, works for Duke Energy. He is also an inventor and is entering a contest at the airshow coming up in Oshkosh, EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Airventure. That will take place when we are up there so we may see them up there. Mr. B is one of the top five finalists. He left us with several prayer requests. Thankful for the Lord’s help in getting another 50 tracts all stapled and folded today, making a total of 300. Hope to do another 100 before we mail them off. “To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt….” Acts 7:39 We need to guard our hearts so that in our hearts we don’t turn back into Egypt – into the world, into our old life. July 15. Never woke up until after 6:30 this morning. Lots to do so got right up and got busy. Washed hair first. Decided to wait until after breakfast to start laundry because I was hungry. Prepared the monthly updates to be mailed, and printed them out and their envelopes. Connie folded, stuffed envelopes, added return address labels, sealed, and stamped. Then I did the e-mail updates. Those two jobs took up most of the morning when I wasn’t taking care of laundry. This afternoon, I stapled and folded another fifty PNG flag tracts. Did another 25 this evening. Also printed out my August schedule and got birthday and anniversary cards ready for the girls to take to church while we’re gone. Before supper, I hung pictures up in our bedroom that came in the foot locker from PNG; and after supper, I put away all the books that were in there. So now the foot locker is empty and ready to use for storage. “And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.” Acts 6:10 Since these men could not refute or oppose the things that Stephen preached, rather then accept the truth, they fought against the one who was preaching. July 16. C&C were up early this morning and off to Lattimore for their yard sale. They made a whopping six dollars and 50 cents. Well, maybe they need to bring the yard sale to Shelby. After they left, I had my lemon soda drink and then made our breakfast - pancakes today. Had quiet time and did a little crocheting. Stapled and folded another 100 tracts. Printed out another 100, still needing to be cut. Later in the morning, Daddy and I went to the post office to get stamps and mail letters. Stopped at Save-a-Lot for bananas, but they were all green, REALLY green. Managed to find four good peaches amidst the rotting bunch (99cents a pound) so bought peaches instead. This afternoon, I unpacked one of our suitcases that came from PNG. Also went through a very ancient needlecraft magazine, pulled out a few patterns, and threw the rest of the book away. The Lord sent us a fierce thunderstorm and heavy rains late this afternoon -- beautiful manifestation of God’s power. “25For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not…. 35This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.” Acts 7:25, 35 Others may not understand the work that God has called us to do; but, in His time, He will accomplish His work in and through us. July 13. We had to go to Gaffney today to pick up Christy and Connie’s milk so decided to leave early and do some more shopping too to see if we could get some of the things we couldn’t find yesterday. With some help from a convenience store, we managed to find Mighty Dollar. We saw that there was a Handfuls of Purpose thrift store right next door so went in there first. I was thankful to find a blouse and a skirt for one dollar each, and another blouse at regular price, as well as a Sunday dress. In Mighty Dollar, I found knee high black socks and light blue socks, but no white ones. Daddy got socks too and some rubber gloves to use when he puts the paint remover on the window to scrape the paint off. With directions from the Mighty Dollar clerk, we headed to WalMart next. Didn’t find any of that variegated yarn their either. They actually didn’t have much yarn at all. Went to look for senna leaf tea bags, but none of those either. Did get a few pair of everyday socks there, but no knee high white socks. We decided to have an early lunch, and decided to try Chik-Fil-A for something different. They didn’t have whole grain wraps, though, so I just ordered a grilled chicken salad and a peach milkshake. Daddy had a wrap and iced tea. After lunch, Daddy stopped at Pilot service station to get his cup of coffee before we went over to the market place to pick up the milk. Mel and Ellen were there with MaryEllen’s four - JD, Kayla, Ethan, and Kezia. Ellen had been watching them since Saturday when MaryEllen went to give birth to the new baby, and they were going to take them home as soon as they picked up the milk. Ellen and the children came over to the van and talked a bit while we waited for the men to come back with the milk. I was happy to be heading home after that and to have a nap after we got here. This afternoon, I printed 50 more flag tracts. Also finished preparing the June progress report (finally). This evening, I finished the shawl I’d been working on for a few weeks and sewed up a slit in the dress I got today at the thrift store. “40And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. 42And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.” Acts 5:40-42 If threatened because of speaking for Christ, would I remember that He has counted me worthy to suffer shame for His name, and would I rejoice? Would I unceasingly teach and preach Jesus Christ? How much more should I be doing so when there are no threats! July 14. Daddy left a little after 8:00 this morning to pick up Bro. Joe and go to Waxhaw to pick up our cargo that had arrived from PNG. During the morning, I picked out some projects to take and do on our trip, printed another 50 PNG flag tracts, cut a pile of them so they can be stapled, wrote a couple e-mails, and got the monthly update written. Daddy arrived back from Waxhaw around 1:30, a lot earlier than I expected him. Now we have several items to unpack and find places for the contents. This afternoon and evening, I cut the rest of the tracts and stapled and folded 50 of them. Also took care of some other matters of business that needed to be done before our trip. “And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.” Acts 6:7 How many thousands of people were saved during those early days of the church! I wonder who ministered to them all. Surely faithful men were trained to preach and teach the word, especially since they taught and preached DAILY and in EVERY house. July 11. Most of the day today has been spent getting ready for our upcoming trip to Wisconsin. Found a bigger box for our display items and added more literature so we will have enough for the whole trip. Printed out a good copy of “Bai Mi Maritim Husat?” (Whom Shall I Marry?) to add to the display. (Will also use it to give the booklet one more proofreading.) Printed another 50 copies of our brochure. Made up a little quiz booklet on PNG for the children and printed out 50 pages of those. (That will make 100 booklets because there are two on a page.) For our supper this evening, I made a salad, mashed golden taters, pork chops, and gravy. Those boneless antibiotic/hormone-free chops were delicious as was the gravy and mashed taters. Received an e-mail today from JAARS saying that our shipped goods had arrived from PNG. Praise the Lord! Daddy and Joe M. will see about going out tomorrow to pick things up. Christy put in her two weeks’ notice today at work. Work has been extremely stressful. We are praying for the Lord to provide just the right job for Christy in His time. Praise the Lord for a rain shower this afternoon. “And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.” Acts 5:32 Since God has given the Holy Ghost to them that obey Him, we can see how obedience is so closely linked to faith. As James says, by his works, Abraham showed that he believed God. July 12. Daddy and I went for an early morning walk. We hadn’t had a chance to walk for a while so just went one block today. After that, I transferred pictures to the computer, edited them, and sent some off to Connie along with this past week’s journal notes. Started June progress report before Daddy and I went out shopping. First to K-Mart to look for shoes for Daddy. He didn’t find anything comfortable there. I looked for socks for myself, but couldn’t find what I wanted. Also looked for blouses since they were supposedly having a sale on summer items, but couldn’t find anything nice or affordable. We did get a couple paint scrapers and some paint remover on sale. Next stop was Verizon to pay the phone bill and then on to WalMart. Looked for yarn there to finish the project I had started. None of that kind available. I did find some gold and black cotton crochet thread that I was looking for. Found a café curtain rod for the laundry room door window. Looked for socks and blouses there too, but didn’t find anything I wanted except for some socks that cost too much. Daddy found some medicated shampoo to try for his head psoriasis, and some protein bars that were on sale. Last stop was Office Depot to get some heavier paper for printing tracts. It was after 1:00 when we got home. Warmed up our leftovers and had lunch. It was around 2:00 before we got to our nap. After nap, Daddy scraped the paint of one of the nine small panes in the laundry room door window. I printed out 50 PNG flag tracts. We would like to send them off to PNG first in hopes that the people will have them by Papua New Guinea’s independence day. C&C and I had an early supper and then took off for Sandy’s Christmas and the trailer. Got some pieces of lace at Sandy’s. Christy got some price stickers to put on yard sale items. The Lord sent us a sun shower on the way to the trailer with beautiful clouds and even a rainbow. We had a heavy storm while we were there and saw another rainbow on the way home. At the trailer we did organizing and pricing for the yard sale. It was around 7:30 when we got home. Had a little more supper. Tried to find the yarn I wanted online, but couldn’t find it. Had our family time, and then I did dishes. Daddy looked at a couple other sites and found the right yarn, but shipping was expensive. Now it is 10:00 and time for bed. “38And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: 39But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.” Acts 5:38,39 Neither Satan nor any other spirit nor any man can fight against God and win. July 10. There were a lot of prayer requests in Sunday school class this morning - special needs for many individuals. Mrs. Surrett started teaching lessons on the book of Esther this morning. Pastor Caleb preached in the morning service from Luke 9:10-17, “A Little Lunch Goes a Long Way.” He brought up some very good principles. (1) Christ viewed the people with compassion and was willing to sacrifice His own needs to meet the needs of others. (2) Oftentimes we think we have the solution to our problems, but we are depending on our own human evaluation of the problem and our own resources. (3) God often gives us a job to do that is too great so that we will learn to depend on Him. (4) We also need to be willing to give what we have. The little boy only had one small lunch, but he gave all that he had and Jesus multiplied it. This evening, John Bower preached on Psalm 73 on “The Sovereignty of God.” The Psalmist Asaph was envious at the wicked because he saw their prosperity. He felt that his attempts to live righteously were in vain; but when he got a right view of God and understood the end of the wicked, he saw that his thoughts were foolish and ignorant. Wickedness will never win against God. Eventually the wicked will be punished and the righteous will be rewarded. “But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.” Psalm 73:28 July 8. Did three loads of laundry this morning. Have been wanting to wash our bath mat, but didn’t have anything to wash with it. Decided to add rag towels plus a rug runner and a couple jackets that were in a plastic bag of things C&C had sitting around waiting to be washed. Threw in Connie’s pink shoes too. Before the third load was done washing, the sheets were already dry and ready to bring in, making plenty of room for that last load. By then it was really humid and close out too, hardly any air to breathe. Then I tried to order some tracts on-line from MWTB, but it turned out to be a very frustrating attempt. Daddy finally ended up making the order by phone. At noon, I washed up yesterday’s and this morning’s dishes. Then we had our lunch - leftovers from yesterday’s meal at Denny’s. While I cleaned up, Daddy went out and got the clothes off the clothesline. After we got clothes hung up in the closet, we had our nap. After nap, I cut up a container of strawberries and a container of cherries which I had washed up in the morning. Put them in plastic bags, and they are now in the freezer ready to enjoy when wanted. My computer time today was spent working on the next set of Sunday school lessons for Owena. “13And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. 14And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.” Acts 5:13,14 When people see God’s power, some may be afraid to join with God’s people, but many others will turn to the Lord. July 9. We were thankful for a pretty relaxing day. Made pancakes for Daddy’s breakfast and pancakes enough to put in the freezer for the next two weeks for myself. Finished cleaning up the other outdoor chair so now we have three chairs on our front porch. Finished up the second quarter income report and printed it out to put in Bro. BC’s mailbox tomorrow. Got some other things ready to take to church tomorrow too. Worked on some crocheting. Folded and put away clothes. Gave Daddy’s hair a little trim. Will cut it good just before our trip to WI. “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.” Acts 5:29 How we need men today with boldness to obey God rather than men! July 7. Up early and washed hair. After breakfast and quiet time, we cleaned the office floor. Then off to the chiropractor and bank. Connie swept the kitchen floor while we were gone, and Daddy washed it after we got back and washed C&C’s bathroom floor too. I cleaned up some things in the kitchen and straightened up a few other things. By then I was ready to sit down, but there kept being just one more thing to do. Never did get a chance to sit down. Finally I had had all I could handle and went off for a nap. It was going on 11:00. Fran (Dad’s brother) and Margaret arrived shortly after I lay down. They visited with Daddy and the girls while I was sleeping. Then we all visited together for a while until we went out to Denny’s for dinner. Our server was very friendly and was training a new worker. Spent the rest of the afternoon just talking (and Margaret knitting and I crocheting). Around 6:00, we had a little supper - chips ‘n’ dip, watermelon, cantaloupe, cheesecake, and ice cream. After that, they left for home. The Lord sent us another storm this afternoon - .9” rain in a short time. “And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.” Acts 5:11 We should fear to sin against a holy God. July 6. We are thankful to have felt a bit stronger today and to be able to get some cleaning done as well as finish the shopping. Around 9:45, we left to take Connie to see Dr. Plaster where she had a couple fillings done. While she was there, Daddy and I cut across to WalMart and Aldi and shopped at those two places. Then back to Dr. Plaster’s office to pick up Connie. She was just paying up. We all went then to Family Dollar and to Dollar Tree before heading home. Had some time to sit and relax before dinner. Went through a file of old papers while I was sitting. Most of that was Bible study material which we wanted to keep so put the whole folder into the file cabinet. Fixed up a fresh salad for lunch. The salad mixes were on sale today at Aldi so got a couple of them. Had leftover goulash with the salad. After nap today, we got busy cleaning. Daddy cleaned the rocking chair and brought it into the living room. I did a lot of reorganizing in the dining room, cleared everything off the dining room table for now, and put on a lighter colored tablecloth which helps to brighten up this dark room. Also cleaned up all the clutter off the kitchen table and put the Americana tablecloth on that table. After supper this evening, I cleaned out another of the two boxes that were in the living room and put the other box off into a corner where it is less conspicuous. Then I did the dishes. “3But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. 5And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.” Acts 5:3-5 Lying is not a little sin; it is a serious sin against God. July 4. Praise the Lord for the rain He sent us during the night! It has been quite a busy day. Didn’t do dishes last night after church because I wasn’t feeling well so did those early this morning after quiet time. Then I wiped off the green chair I cleaned on Saturday and which got wet last night. It had been left out back. Took that around to the front porch and then gave the white chair another cleaning. It still needs a little more cleaning before it is ready to use, but we need to get a spray bottle to make a strong bleach solution to spray on some trouble spots. Took a break and made the shopping list and vitamin order list. Did some crocheting. Helped Connie put Graham’s name on the book bag she had made him. Daddy went to Ingles to get some ice cream, smoothie drinks for me to take when we travel, and bananas. He actually went to get peaches too but didn’t find any soft ones. Christy got home from work at midday. Zonked out at nap time - hadn’t slept well last night so guess I needed the sleep. Daddy had a good sound sleep too. This afternoon, Daddy and I cleaned our bathroom and bedroom. I put Fourth of July decorations out on the front porch. Made goulash for supper. Did dishes right after supper. There was quite a mountain of dishes this evening. After that, we all went out to Big Lots together - bought a recliner and a couple little things. Today was the last day of the sale on the recliners. “And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.” Acts 4:31 Evidence of the Holy Spirit’s filling here was that they spake the word of God with boldness. How we need the Holy Spirit to fill us so that we may do the same! July 5. It was Daddy’s turn to get sick last night. We thought we may not make it to Charlotte today, he was so sick last night. But he didn’t seem to have any problem making it through the day. The heat really got to us, however, and we were both really exhausted by the time we got home. After breakfast, Daddy backed the van up to the porch making it a little easier to get the recliner out. Took it out of the box before taking it into the house. The box was a bit larger than the doorway. I’m thankful for a more comfortable place to sit in the living room now and to be able to elevate my feet. And it’s a chair that is easy to get out of. We left here around 9:30 for Charlotte. TJ’s first. When we finished there and got to the chiropractor office, there was still about 20 minutes left before Connie’s appointment. As we were pulling in, there were Mr. Workman and Sarah getting ready to get into their vehicle. Talked with them a few minutes, but it was much too hot to stand out there and talk very long. From Dr. S’s, we headed over to Neighborhood WalMart. Got our shopping done there and then headed home, with a stop at Chik-Fil-A for Daddy to pick up some lunch for himself. Also diverted to Blacksburg, SC, for gas at Flying J. Arrived home a little before 2:30. Put away the fridge and freezer food and headed for bed. Thankful for a good nap. Didn’t feel like doing any cleaning this afternoon. Still not quite up to par. I did back up all the computer files that I’ve used for the past six months. It was long past time to do backups. “And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.” Acts 4:33 Our Gospel witness must include the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. |
