Oops! Sorry about the order of these post. This blog post was supposed to be before the other two. Not sure if I can rearrange the order or not. October 18. Off we went to NTM clinic about 8:45 this morning to be there in time for my 9:15 appointment. Some early patients had come and gone, but otherwise there were no other patients the rest of the morning. A little later, Dr. Kevin told me that they had set aside a large slot for me. Little did they know how large a slot they were going to need. The first thing they dealt with was my nausea problem. Dr. Kevin was especially concerned about dehydration and possible low levels of sodium, potassium, and I-forget-what-all because of my not getting enough fluid for a week. So he ordered a blood test and IV fluids. He was amazed that the blood test showed everything normal and even in the middle of the normal range. He had thought about giving more than 500ml IV fluid, but stopped there when he saw that the blood tests were all good. It was already going on 1:00 by this time. They also did an EKG, of course, to check out the heart; and everything looks good as possible there, about the same as it has been. In the meantime, Daddy went down to the NTM store to see what he could buy, but the shelves were mostly empty. When he came back, Dr. Kevin went out into the waiting room to greet him. He told Dr. Kevin that he hadn’t come in with me because he has a cold. Dr. Kevin asked him if he would mind if they gave him a COVID test. So they did a COVID test, and the result – positive. Then they thought, they’d better test me, just for routine, but they didn’t suspect anything as I had no symptoms (supposedly). My result – positive. Then it dawned on Dr. Kevin that some people do just have nausea and weakness as symptoms. Anyway, now the clinic and everyone working there had been exposed; but we think the workers have all been vaccinated. But they had to close down the clinic for the rest of the day and disinfect everything. They can reopen tomorrow. We finally got back to the CRMF flat around 1:00. We are now quarantined in the CRMF flat for the next week and a half. Daddy has four medicines to take for COVID. I only have one to take because I can’t take the others with the heart medicine. I was also given an anti-nausea medicine to use when I need it (no more than twice a day). My heart meds aren’t here yet from Australia because several of NTM’s air service personnel are sick with COVID. They are hoping now to be able to get them by November 1 so we will be here in town for a while yet. The clinic did still have some on hand so gave me enough for another thirty days. Dr. Kevin said I’ll probably be weak for some time, but I especially need to drink as much as I can. And they told us to get lots of sunshine. Daddy is supposed to report to the doctor by e-mail every day and let him know how we are doing. Well, this is all I feel like writing now. I am still very tired after a long morning out. October 19. Praise the Lord for early morning sunshine and the opportunity to sit out a good while and also walk around some on the veranda. Daddy e-mailed a report to Dr. Kevin later in the morning as requested. In the afternoon, the Lord sent us rain.

October 22. A cooler day today, but sunny and no rain. Brad called Daddy this morning wanting to know if Daddy would use his vehicle now and then while he is on home assignment because it is not good for the vehicle to just sit around and not get used. The Venters are planning to leave around the middle of November. Then Jonny called this afternoon to see when we could come for lunch. Brad hadn’t told anyone that we are sick so Jonny didn’t know. This morning, I had a job to do to keep me busy before dinner time. Cooked a pot of rice with lentils and made a Spanish rice sauce to go on it. (Too bad, there is no chili powder around. It tasted okay without the chili powder, but would have tasted better with it.) This afternoon, I washed my hair, cleaned the toilet, and fixed tuna for supper. Otherwise there wasn’t a whole lot to do today. Sunny gave a missed called this evening to say hello and see how we were doing. Wenera gave Daddy a missed call too. He didn’t know we were sick. Did the dishes and listened to piano music by Natalie Raynes. October 23. A very chilly morning. Just a peek of sunshine every now and then. Nevertheless, we did laundry — towels and bedding. The sunshine and warmth didn’t come until afternoon. By nap time, all the bedding was dry, however, so we were able to make the beds back up and have our nap. It was late afternoon before the towels were dry. Was hoping to get Dady’s hair cut this afternoon, but that didn’t work today. Was all out of tortillas so had to make some of those. That’s a tiring task. This evening, we listened to a message by Samuel Mills, preached at Ambassador, entitled “Keep Walking Until God Says stop.” October 24. A chilly morning, but sunshiny. It was after 8:00 before I went outside because there were pancakes to make this morning. After I finished making and eating, then I went outside and read and meditated on chapter 19 of John. Off and on throughout the morning, I sat outside and prayed. Around 9:00, we started our Skype time with C&C. Didn’t seem to have much energy to talk today and was tired by the time we were done. Both Daddy and I went for a little nap. Also had another little nap after dinner. Cut Daddy’s hair this afternoon. After cutting his hair, I enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate. This evening, we listened to Wednesday evening’s meeting from VBC, Pastor Reeise speaking on Faith Promise Giving. October 20. No early morning sunshine today, but the Lord did send the sun around later in the morning, and we enjoyed getting out once again. Early this morning, we put a load of laundry in the machine to wash. I wrapped my hand with TP so I didn’t touch any switches or any part of the machine with my body. Later in the morning, Lynn came along and hung out the clothes. In the afternoon, she took them down and folded them and left them outside the door for us. Daddy’s report to Kevin this morning had nothing unusual, and there was improvement on my being able to drink and eat without the nausea pills. After lunch, however, not long after Daddy took his zinc capsule, he got really dizzy. He has zinc sulfate 220mg, enough for 14 days. Wow! That seems like a lot to me. We’ll see how he does with it tomorrow. It was a blessing to be able to sit outside a while again this afternoon — until the rains came, and the world became wet and chilly. This evening, the Lord sent quite a heavy rain. October 21. There was no sunshine this morning, and it was very cool and breezy out so we couldn’t sit out. The day started with Bible reading, today finding strength and encouragement in John chapter 16. Then I peeled and cut up a popo (papaya), putting the larger portion in a container in the fridge and cooking a smaller portion for pancake syrup. Hadn’t had pancakes for some time, and I was looking forward to some so that’s what I made for breakfast with a couple extra for Daddy’s morning snacks. After breakfast was prayer time. Later, I had my morning nap, Mike had Daddy call him this morning so he could let Daddy know that Taqita’s mother had passed away last night. Both she and Taqita’s father had been sick. Don’t know if her father is still sick, or what his case is. For dinner, we ate the last two meat pies that Daddy had bought when I was too sick to cook. I was thankful that the Lord gave us a short period of sunshine this afternoon, and I was able to sit outside and also walk a bit before the skies became dark and the rains began to fall. This evening, we listened to last Sunday morning’s meeting at VBC, with visiting missionaries Frank and Jenny Maietta. Today is Mom and Dad's 52nd anniversary! We thank God for all the years He has given them, for the godly parents they are and for our goodly heritage, and that they are able to continue to serve Him on the mission field.
October 10-16. Nearly a week has gone. I have not written a word in my journal nor have I felt like writing. On the afternoon of the 10th, I suddenly became very ill with a stomach issue of some sort. I felt so sick and weak that I went right to bed and could not get up for anything, although there were times it was necessary to drag myself out for a few minutes. For the first whole day, I could not drink anything, let alone eat. After that I could only drink water. For the next whole day, I still could not eat anything. When I could finally eat something, it was only a very tiny amount; and even now, I am not getting my appetite back and can eat only a very small amount and not much variety. Yesterday, I finally started taking activated charcoal twice a day. I was so thankful that Seigu was allowed to have a market the other day and that Daddy found a nice popo (papaya) which was ready to cut this morning and has tasted so good. I’m thankful to be up more now, but I still need to have two or three naps a day. October 17,18. The 17th, Sunday, I made just three pancakes for Daddy’s breakfast to add to the one leftover for him today and Monday. Later in the morning, I peeled, cut up, and cooked potatoes and prepared chicken and gravy to go with leftover veggies for our dinner. In the evening, we listened to October 10 Sunday morning meeting from VBC. Today, Monday the 18th, was doctor visit day; and at the beginning of the next set of journal notes, I’ll copy paste the e-mail we sent to C&C this afternoon. October 8. Another overcast day. Last night, I was thankful for a lukewarm shower. No shower tonight. But we do have water we can heat for a sponge bath. Praise the Lord for water. About mid-morning, we went out shopping, looking for a few more things that we need here and also gathering things to take back to Owena. Went to Food Link first and found butter* and corn flakes. Then to market Papindo where we found quite a few items we needed. Last of all, we went to King Wee and purchased a number of items there. Praise the Lord for His provisions. This afternoon, I worked a little bit on painting; and this evening, we listened to a service from VBC and moved a few things over to house 2 where we’ll be staying for the rest of our time in town. CRMF is planning to start remodeling house 1. Also got the monthly update written this evening and am thankful for the Lord’s help with that. *Finding butter was something they were thankful for. They could not find butter at any of the other stores. October 9. It has been quite a busy day — made currant scones for breakfast, had quiet time, did laundry, talked with Martha via skype, spent most of the rest of the day moving, wrote an e-mail to C&C. Daddy went out to get some veggie for our next meal. I was good and ready for a nap when that time came around. This afternoon, we finished moving and washed up all the dishes that we had used or emptied out in house 1. It is a blessing to be able to relax this evening and not even have to wash dishes. We listened to a service from VBC and I also did a little painting “Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest that which is good and right in the sight of the LORD thy God.” (Deuteronomy 12:28) October 6. Today we didn’t go anywhere. The first thing we did was laundry so we could get that done before the staff came to work. After my Bible reading, breakfast, and prayer time, I wrote a short e-mail and sent the progress report to Pastor Ogle. Then spent a good while in Bible study. There was a lot to learn from the last few verses of Numbers 14. The Lord taught me a lot from that whole chapter. Afterward, we went outside for a while, but I did not stay out long. There wasn’t much sunshine, and a cool wind was blowing. Spent a little time painting before dinner and this afternoon. The Lord gave us only a very short period of sunshine today, and that was early this morning. We had to heat water for dishes this evening, but that is nothing strange to us as we do that all the time at home. This evening, we tried to listen to another message from ABC’s mission conference, but could not get a good enough connection. So I did more work on adding the Old Testament verses to the culture course. October 7. A little shopping again this morning. We’re going to try to cover one or two stores a day (when we don’t have laundry or something else important to do) and pack up items to take home so we don’t have too much to do at once just before we go. Today we went to SengDa. We were thankful to find a parking space. It took us about two hours to get through with our shopping there. The store was CROWDED. Lots of close people contact even though they had masks on. Went upstairs first. Talked with David a bit. He asked for more tracts so I gave him most of what I had in my pocket. He has good opportunities with other security and with store employees. He wants to come Sunday to see us and have Bible study and get more tracts. After greeting David, we went to the back and picked out yarn. Then we got a couple soup bowls to use here at the apartment. Downstairs, we waited a while so Daddy could get an empty shopping cart. All the carts were used and dozens of people were in line at the checkouts. Carts were being grabbed up as soon as they were empty. Daddy finally got a cart and we went around and bought groceries. Then we came back to the flat. Put some things away and packed most things away. It wasn’t long before dinner time. I washed up the soup bowls we had bought and heated up some of the soup, and we both relished a bowlful. After dinner, Daddy went out to buy a few more groceries we still needed, and I took a short nap. There is no butter anywhere in town. Now what will we use in its place? After nap, I did a little painting and also before washing dishes this evening. We were thankful for more sunshine today, but it will take another full day of sunshine to get the water good and hot again. This evening, after washing dishes, I started writing the monthly update. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” (John 14:26) October 4. We didn’t go anywhere today, but we were thankful for a little more sunshine than we have had and hoped that the water would get a little hotter today. It might have gotten a little bit hotter, but I still needed to heat extra water to do dishes this evening. It was very cool in the flat this morning, but nice and sunny and warm out on the veranda so we did some walking out there for a while, and I also sat out there and finished praying. Today, I decided to do some painting so started a mountain scenery picture. Was having a hard time making the lake look like still water with the reflections from the mountains and trees. About a half hour before dinner, I got out the carrots to peel and cook for our veggie today. The carrots had so many split parts, knots, etc., it took a long time to get them peeled so our dinner was a bit later than usual. Later in the afternoon, I started working on the progress report. Continued with that this evening. Then washed the dishes before we listened to another church service from VBC. Finished sewing the dress hem that I started sewing Saturday evening. October 5. We went out about mid-morning to try to find a few groceries we needed. We were out over two hours and only bought a couple items that were on the list. It was lunch time when we got back to the flat; and we were hungry, thirsty, and tired. Had our lunch, and shortly afterward, had our nap. A long time was given this afternoon to preparing ingredients for soup. But in the end, it was worth the effort as we savored all the mingled flavors of fresh-homemade soup. This evening, I feel quite tired after being on my feet many hours today so after we finished supper and I finished writing the September progress report, I lay down for another nap before doing the dishes. After I did the dishes, we listened to a sermon by Ambassador Baptist College’s music teacher, Dr. Ream. |
