March 25. Anna Jean came early to do laundry. She did not get much sleep last night, however, as her house is within a stone’s throw from Matthew A’s. Matthew has lots and lots of kin who came to cry over his death, some through his biological line and some through adoption. They have filled up the tent that was put up as well as all the houses that are nearby. They are still waiting for his son Philip to come and bring a coffin. After doing laundry, Anna Jean prepared some uxai and carrots and then swept the floors. Wan came this morning too, and Daddy had him patch up the leak in the roof over the light in the entry way. Then he put a bigger piece of plywood under my recliner and cut a piece of plywood to nail onto the end of our bedroom closet. NTM flew in today to pick up an Aziana man. The airstrip is not in very good landing condition. It is getting rough again with stones getting uncovered, and the grass is much too high. After spending some time in Bible study, adding to yesterday’s Bible study in Joshua chapter 8, I wrote a few short e-mails. A young lady from Tainaraba came to the door to ask for money to get to Goroka. I explained to her that we do not have money to give to as many people ask us for money. The money we have was given to us for doing God’s work and helping people with their spiritual needs, not their material needs. Before she left, I gave her a tract and explained briefly what it was about While Anna Jean was practicing keyboard, Zephaniah came knocking on the door, wanting to be with his mama. I gave him some toys to play with while she was practicing. Just before nap, we heard the helicopter coming into Owena. It was the Lae helicopter that comes when ladies are having pregnancy problems. They transported an Aziana lady to Lae as she was having trouble delivering her baby. This afternoon, I did more coloring of outreach pictures, and taught music class. Zephaniah came looking for his mama again this evening while she was finishing up her classes. He was tired and fell asleep before class was over so she had to carry him home. “O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.” (Psalm 98:1) March 26. Only got about four hours of sleep last night. The rest of the night was disturbed by a rat knocking something over and chewing, chewing, chewing on who-knows-what. We often hear them chewing for a long time, but rarely can find what they’ve been chewing on. After getting up several times, I was having a hard time with my heart racing so finally got Daddy up to put out a glue trap. It wasn’t long before the rat got caught, but only by his tail. Daddy thought he had gotten away so didn’t get up to clobber him. When he finally did get up and tried to bash him, the rat pulled loose and disappeared somewhere. The first couple hours of my morning were spent in the kitchen, cutting up a huge popo, making a popo crisp, blending up a smoothie, heating up and eating a couple leftover pancakes. Then I made the bed, had prayer time, started a Bible study in Joshua, and went for a walk with Daddy up the airstrip and back. It was after 12:30 before we had dinner. I was thankful there were leftovers as I was very hungry and also very tired after not getting much sleep last night. March 27. Not long after I got done in the kitchen this morning, it was time to call Christy and Connie. It was a joy to spend nearly an hour with them. After that, we went outside a few minutes before the meeting on the hill began. Then I turned on my computer to do some Bible study; and before it even finished warming up, the screen went black. I waited a while, but nothing happened. After a long time, I was finally able to get the list of documents up. My first thought was to backup everything as I hadn’t done that for a while. Had a hard time getting documents to come up on the flash drives; but, praise the Lord, I was finally able to get things open and back up several months of computer work. I hadn’t realized it had been that long since I’d done backups. After I did that, I ran the CCleaner to get rid of some junk. Then it was time for dinner. After nap, I was able to relax and enjoy my Bible study. Then I washed my hair before writing in my journal. Afterward, I got journal notes ready to send to C&C, and finished the Revelation Bible study on chapter 17. There wasn’t as much left to finish as I thought there was. Connie said they had never received the lessons on chapters 14-16. (I wonder where they went to.) So this evening, after listening to a sermon, I made three Revelationsend files to send to our daughters along with the journal notes. The sermon, A Leader to Follow, by missionary Dalton Heath was very sobering. We sang several hymns after listening to it, and then Daddy prayed to close our evening.

March 23. This morning, I finished reformatting the teacher’s Kristen Famili notes. Daddy and I also went for a fairly long walk up the airstrip. We’re thankful for Bonita’s work in cutting a trail through the grass to get to the middle of the airstrip where the grass is thin and low. Stopped and talked with Kaipo and Sonkenda a bit, and later with Sakias who was just on his way home from lotu. This afternoon and evening, I continued work on the third Bible primer in English. The Lord also sent us a torrential rain, the first hard rain we’ve had since we came back from town. The bad thing was that the roof leaked right over the light in the entry way. We had to keep the light off in there the rest of the evening, which meant the light was off in the classroom so we had Anna Jean come and sit in the office for the rest of classes. We found out late this afternoon, that Matthew Awane was bitten by a poisonous snake down at the river. Early in the evening, we heard wailing down in the village where he lives and assume he has died, but we haven’t heard officially. The wailing has stopped for now. I’m sure we will find out more tomorrow. “Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.” (Psalm 62:8) March 24. Judy came somewhat early to practice computer. I don’t really have much more I can teach her, but we looked at a lot of things together to see what she might want to learn. After she left, I finished my prayer time and Bible study. In between there, Daddy and I went outside for a little fresh air. Sunny was out there weeding under the house and woodshed and around the flowers. It wasn’t long after that before I needed to fix dinner. Prepared spaghetti and meat sauce today. Had cooked greens a couple days ago so was thankful to have a veggie all ready to warm up and eat. After nap, I studied the culture lesson to teach today and also the outreach lesson which I had volunteered to teach. Matthew A did die yesterday. He thought he got bit by a snake, but the health workers couldn’t find any marks. He was in his coffee garden and came straight to the health center. He didn’t say anything to anyone along the way; but they said he died within five minutes after arriving at the health center. March 21. Made more yogurt this morning after breakfast, this time using the yogurt itself for a starter in milk. Went outside in the sunshine for a while with Daddy. Then he walked over to the airstrip. I didn’t go this time, but will wait until a path is cut through the seed grass to the center of the airstrip Must have been really tired at nap time. Before he lay down, Daddy went out to turn the water down; and I never even heard him come back in. Washed my hair after nap. Then it was time for school. Anna Jean is still our only student. It was very hot again this afternoon. People are remarking about the heat saying that it is a “narakain hat” (something else; that kind of heat is unusual for that area). Worked quite a while throughout the day on the student copy of Kristen Famili (Christian Family), putting in blanks for the students to fill in. Have about 1/3 of the file left to do. March 22. It was a busy morning. Judy came early to wash clothes. While she was washing clothes, I sorted and washed greens which she cut up after she hung the clothes out. Then we worked at the computer together. I showed her how to install the printer; then how to copy and paste verses from the e-Sword into a file; and last of all how to print them. At the same time, there were lots of people coming and going at the door. Sometimes Daddy went to the door, and sometimes I had to be there. I did manage to get my breakfast smoothie before things got too busy, but didn’t get the rest of my breakfast until almost 10:00 when Judy was done with her computer practice. After I finally had breakfast, Daddy and I went out for a little while in the sunshine. The rest of the day, I worked on the Kristen Famili lessons and finished getting the students’ copy ready. This evening, Daddy called Nehemiah to see how he is doing. He is still not doing very well. The doctors checked him for COVID, and the results were negative, but malaria testing shows a bad case of malaria. He needs lots of prayer. Then Daddy called Mike and Wenera, and things seem to be going well there. People keep bringing more and more children to their school, and they have way too many children. It is raining lightly this evening. |
