September 11. Karen C taught the ladies’ class this morning. There seemed to be a number of ladies missing, but some new ladies present - Terry M, Bonnie B, and Mary Beth D’s mother. Karen divided the class into four groups and gave each group a name of a Bible woman and a Scripture portion to read. We had to determine the character qualities of that person and of her husband, what desires she had and decisions she made, examples to follow or avoid, a principle, and an application. At the end, a spokeswoman for each group shared their findings. They were all very well done. Pastor Ogle preached on James 4:8,9 - a very sobering message on Brokenness. “You must realize that God uses broken things.” This afternoon, I finished checking over the last couple chapters of Proverbs. Then I started adding verses into the teaching outline. Worked on that more for a while this evening after we got home from church. “And it shall be, when he shall be guilty in one of these things, that he shall confess that he hath sinned in that thing….” Leviticus 5:5 In Leviticus chapters 4-6, God gives Israel specific instructions for dealing with sin. God has given us specific instructions for dealing with sin as well. This verse gives a good definition of what confession really is. It is naming the sin that we have committed. God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, if we confess our sins to Him.

September 10. Instead of going for a walk this morning, we decided to do a little work around the yard. We didn’t work long, however, as the air was already getting warm and humid by the time we got out there. We got out a rake and pulled down a branch of a pecan tree out front that had a couple big worm nests in it. I was holding onto it with great effort so Daddy could cut it. At that time, a neighbor came along and asked if he could help by holding it, and I was happy to turn it over to him. As soon as Daddy had it cut, the man was gone so we didn’t get any chance to talk with him. There was another nest a little farther up on the branch, but it was out of reach once the branch jerked back up into its place. After that we got ready to go to town. Left a little after 9:00 and went first to WalMart. There was hardly anyone there this morning. That was unusual. Then we went to Big Lots as Daddy wanted to get bread there. The bread man doesn’t deliver bread until afternoon, however, Daddy was told, so there was no bread there. I was thankful to find several bags of good snacks and quite a few healthy drinks that I can have. Last stop was Aldi. Arrived home around 11:30. Got food put away and had lunch. This afternoon, I did some printing, worked on a needlework project, and then fixed sweet potatoes, chicken, and salad for supper. Also noticed that one of the apples in the girls’ apple bag was going bad so I trimmed off the bad parts and baked the apple. Was too full to eat it for supper, but maybe will feel like having some later. “22Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come: 23That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.” Acts 26:22,23 As we witness to others, we need to be sure that we speak only those things contained in the Scripture, and in particular, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. September 8. We were thankful for a cool morning for walking. We took a longer walk than usual, down to the end of the shopping center. When we got to Dollar General, it was already open so we went inside and browsed around a while before heading back home. Today I checked and revised a couple chapters of Proverbs. We checked over Luke 11 (ran into some snags), and Daddy also had phone calls in the middle of our work time. Daddy went out for a while this morning to run a couple errands. While he was gone, I fixed a dinner of baked potatoes and baked fish. “And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.” Acts 24:16 It takes exercise, or training oneself, to be a person who always has a conscience void of offence toward God and men. September 9. In the 90’s again today. Thankful for a cool morning, however, so we could go for a walk. There was only one load of wash to do this morning since I had done a load on Wednesday so we had plenty of time to go for a walk. It was refreshing to get out and exercise. This morning, I looked through the Cooking for Healthy Healing book to find recipes that I’ll want to use so I could make a shopping list for tomorrow. Daddy and I also started checking Luke chapter 12 and finished that this afternoon. Praise the Lord, we are half done with Luke. We will stop the checking for a bit though until I get the corrections made in the computer. I also got three chapters of Proverbs proofread and revised today. September 7. We didn’t get to go for a walk this morning because I ended up having to do a load of wash. I did remember to fill the black ink well so the printer is ready for printing again. We also were able to work on checking Luke - finished chapter 9 and started on 10. Around 11:00, we left for Gaffney to pick up milk for Christy and Connie. Made a stop at Rite Aid on the way, hoping to get a few things we needed, but ending up getting only one item. We got to Gaffney early so Daddy stopped at Pilot to fill up with gas. I was happy to see MaryEllen there and give her a hug. Then I walked over to her van with her and said “hi” to all her children. She took baby Moriah out of her car seat so I could hold her, then asked if I wanted to hold her while she got her milk. Delighted! I took Moriah over to our van so I could sit inside out of the hot sun. Enjoyed a few minutes to talk with MaryEllen and the children before we left too. This afternoon, we completed checking of Luke 10. Praise the Lord for His help today. Afterward, I worked a little bit on the discipleship booklet that I didn’t get to work on yesterday. Hurried and did dishes right after supper and got done with a few minutes to spare before we had to leave for church. Even though we had to stop for several red lights, we still got to church early. That gave a little time to talk with the Mages and then with the Howards. It was a blessing to see the Bissels there and have some time to chat with Mrs. Bissell after the meeting. We praise the Lord for good news about Bro. Carpenter’s doctor visit today and how the Lord has answered prayer so that he does not have to have chemo at least for the next three months. Also all his bills will be paid for by the VA. Pastor Ogle preached this evening on the rest of Genesis 49, bringing out the point that every decision you make has long range consequences. After we got home this evening, I worked a bit more on the Discipleship booklet. Now it’s time for bed. September 5. A nice cool morning again. When we went for a walk, it was still cool out so we took the southern route where we would walk part of the time in the sunshine. The northern route is very shady, and I was feeling the coolness when we first started out. After our walk, I worked for a while on a craft project. Translation time was scheduled for 9:00, but Daddy had to take Christy to pick up a friend’s van. Her own van is in the church parking lot (unless Jeremy already picked it up) since it had some serious problems on the way to church last night. Later in the morning, I wrote a couple e-mails, got a couple greeting cards ready to mail, and got the August progress report written up. We did get to work on translation this afternoon and completed most of chapter 8 of Luke. While we were working, Fred came by to talk to Daddy again. (Please pray for Fred. He has some special needs spiritually and is looking in the wrong places to satisfy those needs). Then I made some soup for my supper; and while it was cooking and while I was eating it, I worked on lessons in Jon which Mike had asked for before we left PNG. There was quite a mountain of dishes again this evening. “….So Moses finished the work.” Exodus 40:33 Moses finished the work that God gave him to do. God has given us a work to do also. Should we not finish that work? September 6. Enjoyed our walk after breakfast in the cool morning air. The day warmed up quite a bit more today, temperatures going up into the 90’s again. The same is expected for the next few days. At least we have cool nights now. When we came back from our walk, I started getting my journal notes from last week ready for Connie. Then Daddy and I finished checking over the rest of Luke 8; and this afternoon, we started on Luke 9. The checking was a bit more difficult today so went quite a bit slower, but we were thankful for the Lord’s help in what He enabled us to do. At 10:15, Daddy, Connie, and I left for my appointment with Dr. Prime. Then we went up to GNC to get me some potassium. Gave the checkout lady a tract. She said she goes to Lily Baptist Church, but wanted to read the tract anyway. From GNC, we went to Believe in Abilities thrift store to see if the curtains were there that Christy and Connie had seen there before. They thought they would be nice curtains for their bedrooms. The curtains were gone; but I found a pretty long-sleeve light purple blouse and a velvety dark purple jumper with pretty embroidery along the bottom, and Connie found a spaghetti strainer that sits inside a saucepan. She wondered where it had been all her life. We also went over to the furniture section and looked at some kitchen chairs, but discovered they had gotten wet and we were concerned about mold. It was already lunch time when we got back home. After lunch, I finished getting journal notes ready and then sent them off to Connie. This evening, I started printing “Bai Mi Maritim Husat?” (Whom Shall I Marry) booklets, but the black ink is quite low so will fill the ink well tomorrow morning and then print some more. September 2. Very cool day. Down to around 72º when we got up this morning and stayed the same the whole day. Cool, strong winds blew, and it was cloudy and looked like we would get a storm, but we didn’t get more than a few drops. After doing laundry this morning, Daddy and I took off for town to finish our shopping - Big Lots (didn’t get much there today), Mighty Dollar (didn’t get anything there), WalMart (did most of our shopping there -- my, it takes so long to navigate through that store), Aldi (just a few items), and last of all the post office to drop off the box of newsletters. It was after 12:00 when we got home and after 12:30 before we got the car unloaded and food put away. Then we had lunch and nap. This afternoon, we checked Luke chapter 7. After supper, I made some granola. Then I spent some time working on ladies’ lessons for PNG. Praise the Lord for His help in all that was done today. September 3. Cooler this morning (we even used a blanket last night) than yesterday morning, but sun shone and the temperature got up to around 82. After Christy and Connie went to market and returned, then the three of us went out shopping together. Traffic was heavy -- holiday weekend. Christy stopped at Office Max to get some batteries and trade in some empty ink cartridges. Then we went to Salvation Army thrift store as they are having 50% off all their clothing for the holiday weekend and yellow tags were no more than 99cents. Got four plain color blouses as I have plenty of print ones. Last stop was Hobby Lobby where we spent quite a long time looking at and for things. I got some art supplies as I’d like to try to do some painting during some of my relax times. It was a fun day out with my girls. It was after 12:00 when we got home. Had lunch and nap, and then I looked through my painting books to get some ideas of how to get started with what I have in mind. Fixed a salad and goulash for supper. “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35 If we are able to labor, we should labor so that we can not only support ourselves and our own family, but so we can support those who are too weak to work. A wonderful way to be greatly blessed is to give, rather than receive. September 1. First thing to do this morning was to wash hair. Didn’t get to sit outside this morning. There were things to do before taking off for Charlotte. Fixed a pan of veggies for breakfast since we weren’t going to be here at noon, and we don’t have a way to keep veggies warm for a couple hours in the car. Also made two smoothies for the road and boiled a couple eggs for snacking. I did have quiet time in the midst of those projects and also had more time to pray on the road. A little after 9:00, we were on our way to Charlotte. Actually, we were on our way to Waxhaw first. During the night, Daddy happened to think that Waxhaw would be only another 15 miles from Dr. Schulman’s so we could just take the box of tracts there instead of sending it UPS or FedEx. (It turned out to be more like 20 or 25 miles, and the going was slow because of the slower speed limits.) We got to JAARS a little after 11:00 and back to Dr. Schulman’s with about five minutes to spare before Connie’s appointment at noon. After her adjustment, she and I walked over to Neighborhood Walmart, and Daddy drove the car around. After we got inside the store, however, we noticed the prices were quite a bit higher than Shelby Walmart was the other day so decided to wait and shop Shelby Walmart tomorrow. Daddy walked over to Subway then, while Connie and I waited in the car. After that, we went to Trader Joe’s and did our monthly shopping there. Daddy sat in the car and ate his sub while Connie and I shopped. They had done a lot of rearranging in the store so it took a while to find things. I was grateful for the help of a pleasant and cheerful worker. Headed home after that, arriving a little before 3:00, just when Christy was getting home. Got the food put away and had a snack. Then Daddy and I zonked out for a nap. “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.” Acts 20:24 May this be my testimony as well. August 31. Sat out again this morning to have breakfast and to have quiet time while enjoying the fresh, cool morning air. When Connie was out there with me, an older man (whom we shall call "D") came by with his golf club cane and stopped and talked with us. He had just had heart surgery and had stents put in his heart. He asked us what religion we are. “Are you Mormon?” “No, we go to a Baptist church, but the most important thing is whether a person knows Jesus Christ as his Saviour or not.” “I have a new heart, you know. (speaking of his physical heart on which he just had surgery.) You should come to my church. I go to the _______ Church. I can get beer and smoke cigarettes there.” “The most important thing, however, is to know Jesus Christ and be sure that you are ready when He comes again.” “(Gruffly) I don’t want to hear about that. Well, I’m going up the road to my church to get something to eat. You all have a beautiful day. You all are beautiful. My nurses are beautiful too.” And he was off. Another soul for whom Christ died, a soul that needs to see that God loves him and that he is lost and on his way to a Christless eternity. We trust there will be another opportunity. After that, Daddy and I went for our morning walk - down to Save-a-Lot and back. When we got back, we taped up the box of tracts for PNG, and Daddy called to see if JAARS has a shipment going to PNG soon. Praise the Lord, there will be one going later this year, and items for shipment must be there by September 23. They told us how to label the box, and we’ll have FedEx send it out to Waxhaw. (We actually ended up taking it ourselves.) Daddy went off to buy stamps, photos at Walgreens, and a few items at Aldi. I wrote a couple e-mails and thank-you notes. Got the shopping list ready for tomorrow. This afternoon, I printed out the shopping list; Daddy and I finished checking Luke chapter 6; and I cut Daddy’s hair. Made sure I had supper early and did the dishes right after supper so I could get ready for church. Thankfully, there weren’t as many dishes as last night, although there were quite a few pots and pans. In the meeting this evening, Pastor Ogle started teaching on Genesis chapter 49, Jacob’s last will and testament. He plans to complete the teaching next Wednesday. “19Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews: 20And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house, 21Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” Acts 20:19-21 Serving the Lord involves humility, tears, and trials. We must teach the disciples to observe all that Christ has commanded, and not only teach them, but show them how to obey the commands. Teaching can be done publicly and from house to house. And as witnesses for Christ to the world, we must teach repentance and faith. August 29. I was so happy to have the a/c off and the window open in the bedroom last night. A gentle, comforting breeze blew in throughout the night. Our walk this morning was refreshing and a little longer than usual. After that the day was pretty busy. Had e-mails to write. We spent an hour on translation both morning and afternoon. I emptied the last two boxes of cargo that came from PNG and got everything put away. Am thankful that job is done. Got memory verse files ready with verses for Connie to print and cut for the Owena Sunday school kids; and also figured out what visuals need to be made to go with the next set of lessons. August 30. Am thankful to the Lord for another cool night in which we could have the window open. Made myself some prune/fig/raisin bran muffins for breakfast. Enjoyed sitting out on the front porch this morning and spending quiet time with the Lord while I was eating. The neighborhood is usually quiet early in the morning. Daddy slept in a bit late this morning. He had been awake for a while during the night so was feeling tired and weak. He was too weak to go walking today so we didn’t go. We did work on translation, completing Luke 4 this morning and getting into chapter 6 this afternoon. I also wrote a few e-mails, printed several files, and fixed up journal notes from last week and sent them to Connie. It was good to hear from my sister this evening. Enjoyed a nice chat together. “And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church.” Acts 20:17 August 27. Air conditioners ran all night last night. I really did miss the nightly fresh air, but it was much too hot and humid last night. And we didn’t go out for a walk this morning either because of the closeness in the air. I spent the day working on other projects - getting some cards and notes ready to take to church tomorrow; planning out new dietary notes for stage two of the cleansing diet - tissue rebuilding; planning out September’s schedule. About 10:30, I started fixing dinner. Today I made Chicken, Peas, and Brown Rice casserole and it was delicious. I was glad Daddy liked it. I didn’t get to “eat” any, but I did add broth and whip some of it into soup. This afternoon, Daddy, Christy, and I went out to Ginger’s salvage store and were able to get quite a few things. I was thankful to find quite a few of the healthy drinks like we usually get at WalMart or Ingles, plus a couple little blocks of goat cheese. Before supper, Daddy and I emptied another one of the suitcases with our possessions from PNG. Now all my lambs are unpacked and set up on a shelf in the bedroom, and more pictures have been hung on the wall. I did get to eat a small salad tonight. My, it tasted good! I actually got hungry today after having just liquids all week. “9But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus. 10And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.” Acts 19:9,10 When people don’t want to hear the truth, it isn’t time to quit. It is time to separate the disciples and continue teaching them. As the disciples are diligently taught, they will take God’s word to others so that everyone may have the opportunity to hear the word of the Lord. |
