August 25. Daddy and I went out shopping this morning so I can have some foods I’ll need for the next part of my special diet this coming week. Got our walking exercise this morning in our journeys around the stores. We went first to Big Lots and found a few healthy food items there. Left a tract with the cashier and she was grateful to receive it. Picked up a couple things at Mighty Dollar. And then did the rest of our shopping at WalMart. We were out about two hours; and after the stress of dealing with health issues all week, I was quite tired when I got home. We praise the Lord that two boxes containing a total of two thousand PNG flag tracts had arrived from an individual who so graciously printed them for us (Thank you, so much!), and were waiting to be picked up at church last night. This afternoon, Daddy packed them by 50’s into quart size zip lock plastic bags and we were able to fit 1,800 of them into just one of those boxes. We will try to ship those out to PNG via JAARS. “9Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace: 10For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.” Acts 18:9,10 Verses the Lord used several years ago to encourage us to press on in the work in Owena. Perhaps we can claim these same verses for our ministry here in this neighborhood. August 26. Very hot today - 92º with a real feel of 103º. No walking today as it was laundry day. Praise the Lord for an open door this morning to meet another man in our neighborhood! DB was in front of our house trying to determine what to do with a dead cat that was in the road. When he came by and saw the cat, he felt sorry for it. Connie saw him and took a shovel and plastic bag out to him to use for picking up the cat. This gave her opportunity to talk with him and give him a tract. Afterward he said he wanted to meet Daddy, so Daddy and I went out to meet him. How I pray for needy souls all around us and for more opportunities to reach out to them! The Lord has been showing me that I need to be faithful in the little things before I can be faithful in the big things so have been asking the Lord to help me be more faithful in giving out tracts whenever we go out somewhere. I pray that the word of God in the tracts that have been given out will bring forth fruit. Besides doing laundry this morning, I got another thank you note written and several e-mails. Daddy helped me clean the bathroom so it would be clean when the landlord came this afternoon to fix the leak on the roof. Water has been leaking down the fat pipe that is right next to the toilet in our bathroom. It is really hard for me to clean in that little corner so I’m certainly grateful for Daddy’s help. This afternoon, I finally got the quarterly newsletter done. This time it has been four months since the last one. Praise the Lord for helping to get my thoughts organized and get that done! Our landlord and his wife and stepfather came this afternoon. The roof just needed some more tar around the pipe so we were glad it was a simple fix. “27And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace: 28For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.” Acts 18:27,28 We must use the scriptures to show people that Jesus is the Saviour.

August 22. The Lord gave us a lovely, cool morning. It did get hot and muggy again in the afternoon. Christy was off to work at 7:15, ready to start her new job today. Daddy and I took a nice walk after my morning drink and quiet time. When we came back, I had my breakfast drink. Then we cleaned all the boxes out of the shed, except for a couple small good ones which we brought in the house and a couple big ones which he flattened to keep stored in the shed. Also found a blanket to put on top of our mattress cover, because the mattress cover makes us sweat too much. Spent a lot of time today getting all the August updates done and writing thank you notes. “24God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 25Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things…. Acts 17:24,25 Everything was created by God and He is the source of all life. Apart from God, there is no life. God is self-existent; He does not need anything. August 23. We thank the Lord for a cooler night and morning. It was refreshing to go out for a walk again. When we came back, we flattened boxes to go in the recycle bin. Did a little crocheting before working on homework notes for our family Bible study. Connie folded and enveloped letters for us, put return address labels and stamps on the envelopes, and put the letters out for the letter carrier to take. Then I helped Connie with some pictures she was wanting to put on our blog. Worked on getting the income report up to date this afternoon and got all those receipts cleaned off my desk. “30And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: 31Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.” Acts 17:30,31 Repentance is commanded by God. Men must repent because a day has been appointed in which the world will be judged by Jesus Christ. August 24. Daddy and I enjoyed a nice walk again this morning. Finished getting the income report up to date, going through the entries on our bank statement. Tried to write the quarterly newsletter, but had a hard time concentrating on it. My mind just couldn’t formulate the thoughts in a pleasing way. Swept the living room and kitchen floors and Daddy washed them. This afternoon, Pastor Tim Kelly came and tuned the piano. He flew down from Maine where he has planted a church and will be here for the week tuning pianos in this area. We enjoyed a little fellowship with him as well. August 21. Praise the Lord for rain this evening. Many visitors in church today. Most of the college students back and some new ones here too. Pastor Ogle’s parents and his Uncle Dennis were there. Pastor Ogle preached this morning from James 4:4-6, Take the World, but Give Me Jesus. A good, heart-searching message, showing how friendship with the world is enmity against God, how pride causes God to resist us and humility to lift us up, how God gives grace to humble ourselves and be 100% faithful to Him. This afternoon after nap, I printed out some ministry updates and hopefully we can get them ready to mail tomorrow. This evening, Pastor Ogle preached on some principles of judgment from God’s Word. “Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.” Acts 17:16 The sin we see around us should stir our spirits to strive to tell people about Jesus. August 20. Quite a busy day. After breakfast and quiet time, Daddy, Christy, and I went out shopping (about 8:45). First to market where Daddy and I got tomatoes and cucumbers. Next stop was Aldi for other veggies, and for milk and sandwich thins for Daddy. A quick stop at Office Depot to get ink for Christy’s printer and some penny packs of pens. Back up to Dekalb and Dr. Prime’s office for an adjustment. From there we went to Incredible Edibles, but they weren’t open for some reason even though they are usually open Saturdays from 10:00 to 2:00. Our alternative was GNC at the mall. We were thankful we went there as we were able to get some good buys on herbal remedies I need. Also had the opportunity to give the young man a tract which he said he appreciated. Walmart was next - some bananas, juices, a few more veggies, cheese for Daddy, bottled water, yarn for me, aspirin, and protein bars. Last of all, we stopped at the outlet store on Lafayette where Christy got meat. We went in and looked around since it was too hot to sit in the car and wait. I found some organic beef broth and also some organic chocolate coconut milk. Gave a tract to the man working there also and he too was grateful for the tract. “11These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. 12Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.” Acts 17:11,12 Noble men and women, men and women of an excellent disposition and ready to receive truth, will search the Scriptures day by day to see if the things they are hearing are true or not. Searching the Scriptures will result in faith and/or the strengthening of faith. August 18. Even though it was late when we got to bed last night, I was awake early this morning, a little after 5:30. Got up and took a shower. Daddy went downstairs for breakfast, and I fixed myself a dish of fruit and yogurt again. Then we packed up and got ready to leave. A storm system had passed through earlier, and it was still raining. We took everything down to the lobby on the luggage carrier, and Daddy brought the car up to the lobby door where it was sheltered from the rain. Before we left, I gave the clerk a tract. He was thankful and was reading it before we pulled away from the motel. What a day! Rain, rain, rain, and more rain! At times the rain was quite heavy. When we got to Dandridge, not too far from the NC border, the rain was coming down in buckets. Even though we used an umbrella, we both got soaked going into Perkins restaurant where we had lunch. About five minutes after we entered the restaurant, the rain slowed down quite a bit. As we went on our way, I realized my feet were quite wet and were getting cold. Didn’t want to catch a cold, so Daddy pulled off the interstate at an exit, and helped me get out the suitcase so I could get a dry pair of socks to put on. Then we were on our way again. Rain finally stopped not too far after we crossed the border. A little later, we were grateful to see the sun shining. By then I felt sleepy and took a little nap. When I woke up, we were just about to Hendersonville. We noticed the leaves are already turning in the mountains. Soon it will be fall. (Many of the leaves on the trees have changed early this year due to a hot, dry summer) Arrived home precisely at 4:05. So good to be home. Christy fixed me some veggies for supper. Connie had made an apple crisp, and I had a little of that later in the evening. We sat and talked with Christy and Connie most of the evening. “7And Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning: when he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn incense upon it. 8And when Aaron lighteth the lamps at even, he shall burn incense upon it, a perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations.” Exodus 30:7,8 We can enjoy sweet fellowship with the LORD in prayer both morning and evening. August 19. The Lord gave us a mostly cloudy day today and some rain this afternoon, but the day was very warm and humid. As much as we needed to, we did not go for a walk this morning. After breakfast and quiet time, we washed and hung out laundry. Later, I finished unpacking and putting away things that we used in our travels. Finshed up the August update. Quite late this month because of the busy schedule while we were away. I made a shopping list so we can go shopping tomorrow. “The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.” Exodus 30:15 The payment for sin is the same for everyone, rich or poor. There is not difference, and there is only one offering for sin. It is available to whosoever will. Amen! August 17. Washed hair first thing this morning. After getting dressed, I went downstairs with Daddy to see what was being served for breakfast. Not really anything for me. Daddy stayed there and had breakfast. I took a cup of decaf coffee upstairs and used my own milk and sugar in it. Fixed a bowl of fruit and yogurt. Later we went out for a short walk. It was already getting quite humid out. We were hoping to be able to do something to help at the church today, but could not get in touch with Pastor Copeland. Later we found out that he was out of town. Spent quite a bit of time today checking and revising Proverbs. Around 6:15 this evening, we went over to the church and got our display set up. A little before 7:00, Pastor Norris sent someone to call Daddy into his office to pray before the meeting. During the meeting, Daddy gave a few remarks, and then the presentation was shown. Afterward Pastor Norris made quite a few comments to challenge the people, and particularly the young people, regarding work among unreached people. Then Pastor Norris preached from Revelation 1, stressing from verse 8 that Christ is the beginning of all things and should be the beginning of everything in our lives. It was an excellent message, and several people responded to the invitation. We were excited when Christopher M came up to us as we were putting away the display and introduced himself. He was about 7 or 8 years old when we were there for a missions conference; and at that time, he gave us a jar of money that he had saved up over a year’s time. Now he is a tall, good-looking young man, a senior in high school. We were happy to see him, and Daddy gave him a big hug. He said he had been wondering if we were ever going to come back to visit the church. After we got our display items put away in the car, we left for Cracker Barrel where we met the Norrises for a bite to eat. Enjoyed some time of fellowship with them. “And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.” Acts 16:34 When people are truly saved, there will be rejoicing. August 15. We were both awake before six this morning. Finally decided to get up around six. Had quiet time, got packed up, found an address and got a sympathy card ready to go to the Jessup family. Soon sister Priscilla came over to tell us that breakfast was about ready. Then she walked back over to her house, and we finished loading up the car and drove around to her driveway. She had made us a breakfast of biscuits and gravy and eggs. Enjoyed a good time of fellowship with her. Priscilla is the widow of the former pastor of Victory Baptist Church, Pastor Billy Robertson - a sweet lady with a soft heart for missions and missionaries. Her husband passed away about a year ago from cancer. It was around 9:00 when we left Priscilla’s house and started on today’s journey. The weather was nice when we left there, but we soon ran into rain. Most of the rest of the day was rainy, at times with heavy rain. Riding in the rain is very tiring, especially when I’m watching the road. So I did quite a bit of crocheting along the way. It was close to 1:30 when we stopped at Ryans in Effingham for lunch. We had by-passed several other places along the way because we didn’t see any place to eat. We weren’t sure where we would eat in Effingham, but saw the Ryans and that was the place. I thank the Lord for taking us there because they had lots of veggies, just what I’d been craving. I was so happy to have veggies. I had a whole plateful. About 2:30, we left Ryans and continued on our way. We thought about getting a motel in southern Illinois, but didn’t find anything in the coupon book. Decided we would go on a little further to Paducah, KY. There are plenty of motels here, and we had a couple choices of coupons. Finally decided on Super 8 which has a King Bed and a hot breakfast. After we brought our belongings into the room, we went down the road to Walmart and bought a few little food items. “31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. 32And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.” Acts 16:31,32 It is by faith that a person is saved; but when we tell others how to be saved, we need to speak unto them the word of the Lord, explaining what faith means so that they will have a clear understanding of the way of salvation. August 16. Another rainy morning; but skies started to clear around noon, and it soon became hot and humid. We didn’t have to rush this morning because we only had about 150 miles to go. We left Super 8 around 9:00. It was about noon when we got to Nashville, and the traffic was heavy so going was slow. Once we got through the city and the traffic had thinned out, we found a place to stop for lunch. Ate lunch at IHOP in Smyrna, TN, about 13 miles from Murfreesboro. Arrived at the motel around 2:00. We knew that check-in time was usually about 3:00, but we stopped to see if the room were ready or not. It wasn’t, so off we went to wander around Walmart. Bought some more peaches, some sweet petite grapes, frozen organic spinach and organic squash. Came back to the motel around 2:45, but the room still wasn’t ready. The lady at the desk told us to load up the cart with our things, come sit in the lobby, and have some lemonade. At 3:00, that lady left work; and the lady who took her place told us she was going to give us a different room so we wouldn’t have to wait. We were thankful for that. Our room is on the third floor, but there are elevators to carry us and our baggage up. After we got all settled in, it was time for nap. For supper, I cooked up the package of spinach and ate it with some cheese. Daddy walked over to Subway and had an oven-roasted chicken sub and root beer. This evening, I finally had a chance to transfer pictures to the computer and get those edited. August 13. We said good-bye to the Morrows about 7:15 this morning. They had to be off to a craft show. After they left, we had our breakfast and got most of our things packed up. It was quite chilly out this morning, and I wore both a sweater and a jacket when we went out for just a very short walk - down the driveway to take some pictures of the soybean fields. I had forgotten to take the camera when we went out the day before. Worked on revising Proverbs for a while until Amanda got up. Then we put everything away and got ready to go. It was about 11:00 when we said good-bye to Amanda and left Black Creek. Stopped for lunch at Perkins in Oshkosh. Arrived in Baraboo around 4:00. Enjoyed fellowship the rest of the afternoon and evening with the Metzgers as we stayed in their home. They took us out to the Peking Buffet for supper. After supper, they took us for a little tour of Baraboo. Drove us by the Ringling Brothers Circus area and museum. All the antique circus cars are housed there somewhere. The cars are usually brought out each year for a parade, but this year it was raining and they don’t want them to get wet. The cars are too old, and could easily get ruined. The Metzgers also showed us the mansions where the Ringling Brothers lived. “And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.” Acts 16:15 Men and women who are faithful to the Lord will take care of the servants of God. August 14. Mrs. Metzger fixed biscuits and scrambled eggs for breakfast. There was homemade jam - strawberry, raspberry, or blackberry - or honey to put on the biscuits. A little before 9:00, we headed for the church. Got the display set up and talked to a few people before Sunday school started at 9:30. Daddy had been asked to tell what our current ministry involved and then ask for questions from the floor. The people had a lot of good questions, and that took up pretty much all of the Sunday school time. Our video presentation was shown in the morning service; and then Pastor Metzger preached with Ephesians 4:17-24 as his text, very concerned that so many Christians no longer care about putting on the new man which is created in righteousness and true holiness. Many Christians today want to live as close to the world as possible. He made reference to Hosea 10:12 and also to II Chronicles 7:14, If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. A remark that really stuck in my mind, especially with elections coming up, is that the problems in this country are not the fault of Obama or anyone else other than ourselves. The problems in this country are due to the fact that God’s people are not willing to humble themselves and to turn from their wicked ways. God has promised to hear and forgive and heal our land if we will turn from our wicked ways. We are to blame for God’s judgment upon this country. Very sobering to think about. After the meeting, there was a fellowship dinner downstairs. They said they always have a fellowship dinner when a missionary comes. At the dinner table, Daddy and I enjoyed fellowship with a couple bikers who are members of CMA (Christian Motorcyclers Association). After dinner, Daddy and I headed for New Milford, Illinois, near Rockford. We are spending the night here at the prophet’s chamber of Victory Baptist Church, Pastor Al Bugby. We did not have a meeting scheduled here as we had never met the pastor before. However, just before the meeting, he asked Daddy if he would tell a bit about our work and then preach. Daddy was happy to do that, and preached the message on “Mission Unaccomplished.” The pastor gave an invitation, and a number of people came to the altar, including a young boy and a couple young girls. One man was already at the altar before Pastor Bugby got to the pulpit. After the meeting, Pastor Bugby took us out to Dairy Queen to get a little bite to eat. “And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.” Acts 16:25 Even when things in our lives seem as dark as midnight, we can be a testimony for the Lord by singing praises to His name. August 11. Daddy’s birthday. 70 today. Also the Morrows anniversary. We celebrated both this evening with a special meal made by Grace - salad, pork roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, fresh corn on the cob from their garden. There was also an angel cake for dessert, covered with chocolate cream. Daddy and I woke up early this morning, but we didn’t plan to rush to leave the motel since we didn’t have to be anywhere in a hurry. I washed my hair and we started packing things up. Daddy was going to take some things down to the car when he went down for breakfast in the lounge, but it started raining. After breakfast, it was raining pretty hard, and over three inches of rain was predicted. We decided we’d better hit the road as soon as we could. When the rain slowed down, we started taking things out to the car. As soon as the car was packed up, we started on our way. It rained and rained and rained, all the way until we got to Appleton. By the time we got there, my head was spinning from all the rain and the motion of the windshield wipers. I was thankful to get out of the car for a while. It was a little after noon when we got there so we stopped at the Fox River Mall to get some exercise and lunch. There were several eating places in the mall. I got a salad at Subway, and Daddy got a rotisserie-style chicken sub. Arrived back at the Morrow’s house around 1:30 or so. After talking with Grace a bit, we had a nap. Wrote an e-mail after we got up. Started checking over and reformatting the Proverbs outline Daddy had done for teaching the youth in Owena. Around 6:00, we had supper. Then I told Grace and Don that they would have to let me do the dishes tonight because it is their anniversary. (They hadn’t let us help with anything while we were there.) They agreed to let me wash them, and Don and Daddy dried. “4And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem. 5And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.” Acts 16:4,5 As we encourage and exhort the churches, they will be established in the faith and others will be added to the church. August 12. The Lord gave us a cool, overcast day. Before breakfast, I put a load of clothes in to wash. After breakfast and quiet time, I put the second load in. Then we went out for a walk. It was a nice day for walking. Since the grass on the trails is getting a little high and is wet, we took our walk down to the end of the driveway and part way up the road. No traffic to speak of on these country roads. When we came back, I hung some clothes up on the clothes rack and put a few things in the dryer. Then I put some slides together for a short presentation in case Daddy is asked to speak to the school students when we are in Tennessee. A little before noon, we headed out for Seymour (only a few miles up the road) to meet Pastor and Mrs. Raasch at Kary’s Family Restaurant. (Seymour is the home of the hamburger, and it was time for the hamburger festival.) We enjoyed fellowship with the Raasches over lunch. Each of us ordered a senior meal (only $5.99) which included a choice of meat, mashed potato, roll, soup, and dessert. The plate had twice as much food as we needed, and more than any of us could eat. It was quite a plateful for a senior meal. Had a nap after we got back to the house. Worked on reformatting the Proverbs lessons for PNG. Realized that we haven’t finished the Proverbs translation so will have to work on that in order for them to teach the lessons. Did a little crocheting and some packing during my breaks from computer work. “And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.” Acts 16:10 As soon as we know clearly what God’s will is for us, we should act upon that knowledge. August 10. Beatrice had left smoothies for us in the fridge so that’s what we had for breakfast. Weren’t very hungry for much else. Got all packed up and were ready to go by 7:30, but didn’t want to get out there in that rush hour traffic. Used some of the time to write a couple thank you notes. Then Daddy and I went for a walk. We hadn’t done any walking for a couple days so it felt good to get some exercise. Around 8:30, we left Beatrice’s house. There was still a little bit of rush hour traffic close to downtown, but not too bad. The rest of the trip was good. We got into LaCrosse a little after noon and stopped at Perkins for lunch. As we opened the door into the entry way, a bat flew in, headed straight for another door which was closed and stunned itself. We opened that door and encouraged it to go outside. Wouldn’t want that creature flying around in the restaurant. Daddy had pancakes and eggs for lunch, and I had a chicken pot pie with a side salad. My, what a BIG pot pie it was! - twice as big as I expected! Needless to say, about half of it came with us to the motel. From Perkins, we went down the road to Woodman’s and bought a handful of groceries - bananas, pistachios (my almonds are just about gone), a green veggie drink, and cookies. Then we headed for Sparta. It was a little after 2:00 when we arrived at the Super 8 motel where the church had arranged lodging for us. The first thing I did after we got all our things up to the room was have a nap. Daddy went out to find a DVD to put our presentation on since it appears that we left our other one somewhere. Madison maybe?? He also mailed a few letters. Then he came back and took a nap. After nap, we took showers. At 5:45 we left for Ambassador Baptist Church. It’s a small church; but there was a good group out for a Wednesday night, and people showed much interest and took a lot of literature. We had to wait for the man who runs the video, and he was a bit late. Sang a couple songs first, and pastor gave announcements. Then they showed the presentation and Daddy took some questions from the floor. After that he preached a short message, Why Do Missionaries…? After church, we went into Sparta for a bite to eat at Culvers. Then stopped to fill up with gas on our way back to the motel. |
