January 15. A gentle rain is falling this evening here in Owena. It didn’t rain much in Goroka, but it has rained here. We are thankful for the refreshing rain. We arose early this morning and hurried to eat breakfast and finish packing up. It was after 7:00 before we headed over to the hangar. We were scheduled for the first flight; but since they had gotten word that there was a hard rain in Owena last night, our flight was postponed to later in the morning. So Daddy and I went uptown to Papindo to get something to eat. I tried a brownie, but it was more like chocolate cake, which I don’t care for. So then I went and got a chicken empanada. It was pretty good, except for too much fried bread around the filling. I ate all the filling, but not all the bread. Daddy had a brownie and a cup of coffee. Since we had a couple hours to kill, we walked around the store just to get exercise. Stopped and looked at a few things. Daddy looked at some umbrellas on the end of an aisle; and I said, “Didn’t you bring an umbrella to town?” “Umbrella. I must have left it hanging on the hook at the flat.” So after leaving Papindo, we drove by CRMF, and Daddy inquired as to whether the house cleaner had found an umbrella in the apartment. Yes, they had set it in another room as they were getting the flat cleaned for someone else to move into for a few days. Praise the Lord for the reminder about the umbrella as it is the only one we own. It was 10:00 when we got back to the hangar and about 10:45 before Glenys arrived back from her first flight. The workers quickly fueled up and loaded up the plane for the flight to Owena and Simogu. It was about 11:30 when we arrived home to Owena. The weather was pleasant and good for landing. As we circled, we could see people cutting grass on the airstrip. Glenys circled twice because the workers didn’t move off the strip the first time. But we were very thankful to see them cutting the grass. The strip was a bit rough and was wet in the middle section. I came right down to the house so I could get ready for carriers. I had just barely gotten here, when they started arriving. So thankful for the help of Sunny and Nendisa in handling the cargo and giving out the chocolates. After everyone left, Sunny also filled up the washing machine so she can wash clothes in the morning. I got busy putting away the freezer and fridge food as everything had been sitting out in the sun for a couple hours. Then I mixed up some tuna and mayonnaise for sandwiches and cut up a tomato. After nap, we put all the rest of the food away. Then I needed to sit down a while before getting supper. Started organizing the smaller tracts into sets of 100 and putting them in sandwich bags. They will be easier for people to carry to other villages if they are packaged up. I was going to start about 4:30 cutting up the pumpkins to cook for supper, but then people came to the door. Mata brought bananas. I helped take care of her needs and then started on the pumpkin. Then Tonka came with greens and cucumbers. Other people came to get cargo they had ordered from town. It was about 5:30 when we finally sat down to supper. Then other people came with food to sell or to get things they had ordered from town. Was busy with several ladies up until bath time. After bath, I got all the yarn sorted and put away. Also finished sorting tracts until there were ten packs of a hundred each. There are a few extras left in the box. Then wrote in my journal until the dish water was hot. January 16. The day started out with blue sky, some white puffy clouds, and sunshine. Soon the fog came up and the sun ran away and hid behind the fog. When the fog lifted, the clouds had turned to gray, and the blue sky was gone. We wondered if we were going to have a rainy day. Sunny came after lotu and washed and hung out the clothes. We wondered if the sun were going to shine again or not, and if we would have to bring the clothes in later and hang them inside. So Daddy put some more ropes up in the spare room. Before Sunny came, I started sorting the flag tracts and putting them into plastic bags—only sets of 50 for those as they are double the pages. Took some of them that didn’t have all the white trimmed off and trimmed them with the paper cutter. Worked on that project for a bit while Sunny was working too. Also sorted and washed a small bunch of greens for Sunny to cut up later. The bunch was very small so I asked Sunny if she had any greens close buy. She has some kavia growing by her house so when she was done with laundry and sweeping the floor, she went off to her house to get some greens to add to the pot. Later in the morning, I proofread outreach lessons and fixed the pictures that go with them so they would be ready to print later. Also deleted answers and put blanks in the Revelation lesson so I could print student copies later. Before I knew it, it was 12:00. Where had the morning gone? Added salt to the pot of greens (had put water and bouillon cubes in earlier) and put that on to cook. Then got out the leftover pumpkin and rice for us to warm up for today’s dinner. This afternoon, I printed the outreach lessons and pictures and also the Revelation lessons; and this evening, I punched holes in the lessons and added them to the students’ notebooks. “1) And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken. 2) For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.” Genesis 21:1,2 The Lord always does exactly what He says He will do. He always performs as he has spoken. He keeps all His promises, and He is always on time. We can trust Him completely to keep His word. He is faithful, and His word cannot fail. Amen! January 17. The Lord gave us a lovely day. It was so nice and warm in the house that we were surprised to find a cool north wind blowing when we went out for a walk mid-morning. We usually get the cool breezes from the south, and that is the side of the house we open up early because we get the most sunshine from there. But the house stayed warm all day, and it even felt quite hot this afternoon, and is still warm this evening. The day started with tea, pancakes, Bible reading, and prayer. Trimmed some more of the flag tracts and packed two more bags of 50 each. Worked on the December progress report and finished that before nap time. I added it to an e-mail to go to Pastor Ogle. Was busy in the kitchen for the last hour and a half of the morning, preparing a meal for today and a couple days to come—chicken pot pie. It tasted good and was worth the effort. Since the stainless steel skillet has a stainless steel handle, I figured I could use it in the oven and wouldn’t have to dirty another dish. I knew the handle would be very hot and thought when I took the pan out that I had the pot holder wrapped well around the handle. Apparently I missed a spot, and one little touch of the handle with my thumb and a painful blister burst into view. Praise the Lord for honey which took the pain away quickly and kept the blister from getting too bad. This evening, I finished writing the last music lesson for the missions course. Praise the Lord for His help with that! There are so many important truths that these students need to get hold of and make a part of their lives so they can teach others. There are just four more lessons to teach.

January 13. This morning, we went out to Hardware House to get some plywood, but all the plywood was gone, or sold. Food Link is next door and was supposed to have had the new shipment out on their shelves today, but nothing new was out. They said they would get a couple things out for us that we can pick up tomorrow. After that, we went to ChemCare west where I bought some calcium because I am running short. Then uptown to King Wee where we got some nice tomatoes. Also met up with Kathy T there and talked quite a while. After King Wee, we went to the old Istana, but didn’t buy anything except a small bottle of water as I was quite thirsty and had forgotten to bring my bottle of water along. It was the first time I’d seen this brand, Crystal Clear; but it is bottled in PNG and tastes quite good. Next stop was Chemica, where we were happy to find black and yellow-orange yarn—two colors that none of the other stores had in stock. Last of all, we went across the street to some place where Daddy went up a lot of stairs to buy some flex cards. I stayed in the car as my legs were getting a bit weary and didn’t feel up to that long climb. Didn’t take him long at all to get the flex cards and get back to the car. Back at the flat, we finished packing up a box; and then, with the help of one of the CRMF workers (praise the Lord), Daddy took all the boxes of cargo down to the car and took it over to the hangar. I crocheted for a little while and then had my lunch. Daddy had his lunch a bit later, after he returned from the hangar. After nap, Daddy took Jonny’s car back to him. He stopped at Yida on his walk back from MAF base to see if they had phones and learned that they have a dry goods department upstairs. He got a new phone because his old one is quite old and has not been working that well. I spent a good part of the afternoon and a small part of the evening working on the Revelation lesson. Also made a beef mince stew with dumplings for supper. When my brain got tired of working on the Revelation lesson this evening, I took a break and did more crocheting. When the yarn ran short, I had a snack and then did dishes. We also listened to part of Sunday night’s VBC service. January 14. First order of business this morning was laundry. While clothes were washing, I had breakfast and quiet time. Did a bit of packing too. Daddy went out a little before 7:30 to take Matt C to the NTM hangar for his flight back to Aibai. I was just finishing up the job of hanging clothes when he returned. A little later in the morning, Ben from Kumil Printing called to say that the tracts were ready, so we got ready to go out, making the printing place our first stop. We are thankful for the nice job he did on the printing. From there, we went to Yida and looked around in their dry goods department upstairs. We went to Food Link to get a carton of Black and Gold milk and a carton of Black and Gold corn flakes that they had set aside for us. Bought a bottle of mustard while we were there. Last of all was a stop at the auto store to get that K10 tire patch for the wheelbarrow and some oil for the lawn mower. Dropped the two cases of food and the box of tracts off at MAF before coming back to the house. Then Daddy went off uptown to get a few more little things. I stayed here; and the rest of the day and evening, I alternated between packing and working on the next Revelation lesson. We also listened this evening to an encouraging message by Pastor Weiss. January 11. This morning, we waited for Matt C to call and let Daddy know that he had made it into town and was ready to be picked up at the hangar. While we were waiting, I did some crocheting until my yarn ran short. Now I need to attach more yarn. 9:30 came and went, but still no call so Daddy finally called the hangar to find out when Matt would be in. He was told that Matt would be driving into town and not flying. Daddy expected he would be here any time then because he usually leaves around 4:30 a.m. so he can get here early and get busy shopping. I started writing an e-mail, but it got to be close to 10:00 and there was no sign of Matt, so Daddy finally decided that we would go out shopping. First, we went to Seng Da and got yarn, string rope, and bread. Brought all that back to the flat, packed the bread in a box and put it in the freezer, packed the yarn and rope, had a little snack. Next we went uptown to try to find trousers for a boy back in the village. Finally found some at Hot Spot, and Daddy also got salt there. Back to the house again to drop these things off. Now it was close to lunch time so went up the road to try to find a little café that the Venters had told us about. We passed it without seeing it, but the Lord brought us right to the door of a printing business. Stopped nearby and asked someone where the café was. They pointed us back up the road so we turned around and went back to try to find it. Finally found it, but it wasn’t open. Turned around again and went back to the printing place. Ben was very helpful and willing to print the tracts. We took a quote, and this afternoon, I reformatted the tracts to A4 size. If we can get printing done here in the country, that will be a great blessing. Left a copy of each tract with Ben, and he seemed happy to get them. It was 1:00 when we got back to the house. Had our dinner—leftovers again—and then a nap. Nap was shortened by the loud roar of a helicopter flying over the house. I thought it was going to the hospital, but Daddy said it went on past the hospital over toward the mountains. After reformatting the tracts, I got things ready for supper; and after supper, I finished the e-mail that I had started in the morning to C&C and attached journal notes. Sent that and then got some pictures ready to send while I was having a snack. After that, I did the dishes. Then we listened to yesterday morning’s service from VBC. “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Proverbs 14:12; 16:25 January 12. Did a little crocheting this morning while we were waiting for Jonny to answer Daddy’s text so we could use his vehicle. But he never answered so Daddy tried to call him. Couldn’t get through so he finally decided to try my phone. Success! (Daddy wonders if he needs a new phone.) So Daddy walked over to MAF and picked up the vehicle. When he returned, he called Ben, the printer, to see how long it would take to make the tracts since we will be going back to Owena on Friday. He said he should be able to have them ready by Thursday so we went down there with the flash drive; Ben copied the files into his computer; and we paid a deposit on the tract printing. After that, we made a stop at Yida before Daddy brought me back to the house so I could work on e-mails. First, I finished my prayer time. Then readied and sent an e-mail with a vitamin order to C&C. Daddy went out and did more shopping. When he returned, it was going on lunch time so we headed for Papindo Café. I ordered a chicken filet sandwich, and Daddy ordered a hamburger, but they didn’t have any cheese, so make that two chicken filet sandwiches. After lunch, we bought a couple grocery items there before going to Papindo Central to get apples. Back home for a nap. Then Daddy went out again while I wrote more e-mails. It is fatal to look behind. All our past is strewn with the memories of our sins and failures. There is but one hope. Escape to the Cross of the Divine Redeemer! Shelter in the cleft Rock of Ages! Hasten to the open arms of the Father! -F.B. Meyer “13)….this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14) I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14 January 8. Could still smell mold last night in the other bedroom, and it kept waking me up during the night. We just went out shopping for a half morning today—to Seng Da first to get a new battery for my phone. Picked up a couple grocery items while we were there. Then we went to West—Yida first to get more mayo. Also bought a whole box of Queen Emma dark chocolate bars—48 bars, which would be the equivalent of twelve large bars. Next we went to WanTok and got cheese, filleted chicken, tissues, and another skein of brown yarn. Was thankful for the opportunity to give out a few tracts to people sitting outside the store. Last stop was Food Link where Daddy had a cappuccino and a slice of chocolate cake at the coffee shop, and I had a cup of green tea with jasmine. We also made a couple purchases there before heading back to the house. They said a container has come in so they should have the shelves stocked with new items by Wednesday. They are not open on Saturday and Sunday. Shortly after we got back to the flat, we had a nice long Skype time with our two special daughters. Then I got out the skein of brown yarn we had gotten today and finished up the brown section of the afghan. Dinner was leftovers from yesterday’s meal at Pacific Garden. After dinner, I started writing in my journal, but got too sleepy so went for nap. Had a fairly long nap, but knew I was coming down with a bad sore throat and earaches. And I’d forgotten to pack the buffered aspirin and amoxicillin.. Daddy went out to buy some amoxicillin, and I started writing an e-mail while he was gone. Worked a little bit this evening on the next Revelation lesson. “14) Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. 15) Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.” John 15:14-15 January 9. My day didn’t start quite as early this morning even though I went to bed early last night. Since I started coming down with a sore throat and earaches yesterday, I wasn’t feeling that well to warrant rising out of bed right away. Then I got slowed down when I discovered that my blouse had a button missing. Took the very top button off the blouse and sewed it in place of the missing one. Eventually, I was able to get to the kitchen and start getting breakfast ready. My heart was thankful this morning for a breakfast of apple and sesame pancakes, a welcome change from cereal. So glad we had bought a small bag of wholemeal flour yesterday. After breakfast, there was laundry to do, and we also spent a little time with Martha on Skype. Daddy did most of the talking as I was still feeling quite tired and having a hard time pulling thoughts out of a weary brain. Shortly after saying good-bye to Martha, we went out to do a little shopping. Bought a pack of another shade of brown yarn at Seng Da so I would have enough brown shades to finish the afghan I’ve been working on. We also found some Comet cleanser at a decent price. Then we went to market and bought bananas, carrots, and a popo. A quick stop at Papindo for things they didn’t have, but bought another litre of ice cream and a small pack of mocha cookies for Daddy. After we got back and had put a few things away, we had a cup of coffee and then got ready for lunch. Had quite a long nap—must have fallen sound asleep. Had a little time to crochet afterward and work a little on a Revelation lesson before preparing something for our supper—potatoes and yams, a veggie medley, and a beef gravy. Spent more time on Revelation lessons after supper, and later on I did dishes. There was quite a stack of them. “The Lord is... not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9 January 10. The day started with making pancakes. Am thankful for the bananas we bought at market yesterday as my pancakes always seem to taste best with a banana on them. Then I made an apple syrup today instead of popo syrup. In the afternoon, I cut up the popo that we also bought yesterday at the market. Read Bible while I was eating breakfast and had prayer time afterward. A little later, we Skyped Fran and Margaret and enjoyed talking with them. Then we went outside for some sunshine and exercise before listening to last Sunday’s service at VBC Lattimore. Slept quite a long nap again today. Have really been zonking out for some reason. What was left of the afternoon, I worked on the Revelation lesson. Thought I was finished with that lesson and had even written the study questions already. But chapter 19 in Revelation is quite short, and there are a lot of Old Testament passages that support it and give more detail. So again this evening, I worked on it for an hour and a half. Then I took a break and had a snack and did dishes. Afterward, we listened to another message from VBC. January 6. Daddy discovered early this morning that Martha had tried to Skype in the wee hours of the morning. So he got onto Skype and finally got in touch with her although we couldn’t see her. She mainly just wanted to wish us a Happy Anniversary. We will talk with her more this weekend. We had a busy day shopping and hit most of the major stores, including two new ones. Went to Seng Da early and made quite a few purchases there. Brought things back to the house and then went to West. Food Link down next to Hardware House has just recently been opened and is operated by a former worker from Food Mart. They don’t have a lot of stock yet, but are expecting a shipment this weekend. They also have a little coffee shop. Several of their workers were also former Food Mart employees. One woman worker talked to us at the checkout. She remembers us from way back when we had two little girls tagging along with us as we shopped. 😊 At that time, she worked at the Bintangor West store, which has been closed for many years now. The other new store was Yida Investment which is located where Papindo West used to be. It is all renovated and arranged differently and looks very nice. The only thing I didn’t like was the bottle shop just to the right as you go in the store (where the electronics and other non-food items used to be). After shopping the West stores, it was time for lunch. Came back to the flat and prepared tuna, tomatoes, cucumber, and cheese for sandwiches. Also had peanut butter and marmalade. Before going out again, we took a short nap. Then we covered three of the major uptown stores. Will have to hit the rest tomorrow. Got some chicken sandwiches at the Papindo Café and brought them home to go with our supper. I cooked some carrots to go with the chicken. After supper, I wrote an e-mail. Then did the dishes. Had a snack and wrote in my journal. January 7. A strong mold smell wafted through the bedroom window most of the night last night and kept waking me up. So this morning after breakfast and quiet time, we moved out of that bedroom, each of us now in separate rooms. I started comparing symptoms I have to symptoms that Martha has, and we have a lot of similar symptoms. Wonder if she has mold in her apartment. After getting our rooms changed, we went off to the shops again—going to Papindo Central just to get butter as it was the only place we had seen it. Then to Istana (where we bought nothing), Bintangor (where we bought only fresh veggies — broccoli and Napa cabbage), and Hot Spot. Back to the house for a pit stop and wee snack. Then around noon, we headed out to Pacific Garden Hotel restaurant for our anniversary dinner. Daddy enjoyed a nice lasagna, and I a shepherd’s pie. A little later, we happened to think that today is Daddy’s 20th spiritual birthday so we counted the dinner for that celebration as well. After dinner, we stopped and got a few more things at Papindo. Went to ChemCare for wet wipes and YuYu for yarn and a couple other items, Farmset to check on the price of a heavy-duty lawn mower for the airstrip. The rest of the afternoon, I worked on crocheting. Had a little left to finish with the brown; and this evening, I used up the two skeins of brown I bought yesterday and ran short just before I got to the end. Guess I’ll have to get one more skein. Also wrote an e-mail to C&C this evening. “Is any thing too hard for the LORD?” Genesis 18:14a And Jeremiah 32:17 says “Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:” Is there anything too hard for the LORD? There is NOTHING too hard for the LORD. Note: In posting Mom's journal notes, I skipped the ones from December so I can catch up to recent news. January 4. Most of the day was busy with packing. A few men did work on the airstrip cutting grass. The grass is so hard to cut, but at least they got enough done in the center for the plane to land safely. We really need to find some kind of grass killer and get rid of that bad grass. (Not a good idea, the pilots said. There is too much of the bad grass, and killing it would mean more of the airstrip would wash away and get rough. What we need is a heavy duty lawn mower, and they recommended one.) I did do a little crocheting for sit-down time. Also printed out the teacher’s copy of the next Revelation lesson. Wrote a couple short e-mails this evening; copied some e-mails to answer in town; printed October/November bank statements so Daddy can work on the income report. Praise the Lord that e-mail service is working right now. It seems that someone must have done maintenance on the Okapa tower. January 5. We had no idea what time the plane would come. They told us that it would probably be between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. But we kept busy while we waited—finishing up packing and weighing things up, answering the door, talking with Mike (Mike has been sick all week with his stomach pain again), eating, making the bed, hanging blankets out in the sunshine to air, etc. Since we didn’t know what time we would get a lunch, we finished up the cheese that was left and each had an open toasted cheese sandwich and then a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Last of all, I washed up the dishes — that was about 10:00, and Daddy got in a couple e-mails. I had just finished washing dishes and started reading the e-mails when we heard the plane coming. The Lord gave MAF a great flying day and they were well ahead of schedule. They didn’t mind waiting for us, however, as this was their last stop for the day. The plane ride gave me a good twenty minutes to finish my prayer time. It was about 12:15 when we got to the flat. We unpacked before going out to lunch; but I was much too tired to go anywhere so had a bowl of cereal and went down for a nap, and Daddy went out to Papindo for lunch and to do some shopping. He had barely gotten out the door when he came back for some aspirin as he had started getting a migraine. After my nap, and after Daddy got back, we went to Papindo central together to try to find some juice to take to the Venters. Found some nice red juice and was happy to find sesame seeds as well. It has been a long time since I have had any seeds or nuts. Took a shower shortly after we got back and got ready to go out to Venters’ for dinner. Enjoyed a good meal and a good time of fellowship. It was nice to have a hug from Michelle and from the girls. My how the children have grown! Emma has grown so much too, and is a happy baby. I was happy to be able to hold and snuggle her. “I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.” Psalm 101:2 November 27. Praise the Lord for answering prayer and for Daddy being able to get home today! I heard some light rain for about an hour during the night, but there was quite a bit of blue sky this morning. Patchy fog kept creeping down the Lamari valley, however, and rising up to the mountain tops on the other side of the Lamari. We expected an early flight, but Daddy’s flight was re-scheduled for 11:00. By mid-morning, however, the clouds had taken over, and there was no more blue sky. Then they changed his flight to 12:00, but some of the clouds looked threatening so they went ahead and did the 11:00 flight. I had planned on using some of the food he would bring home to make some dinner, or else boil eggs to make egg salad sandwiches; but neither of those things were possible because it was late when he got in. I just mixed up some tuna, and cut up a beautiful red tomato from among those that Daddy had gotten at market. That made tasty and healthy sandwiches. It took most of the rest of the day to unpack and put away supplies that Daddy brought home. Quite a few village people came for this or that too. I did get to make spaghetti for Daddy’s supper. There was leftover uxai for his veggie, and there was soup for my supper. Afterward I had a bath as the house was getting quite chilly. Then I read all the e-mails that came while Daddy was in town. November 28. Cloudy most of the day, but the Lord gave enough sunlight and wind to dry the clothes. This afternoon, I proofread the notes for the next two outline lessons for Daddy’s class. Then I put them on flash drive, took them to Daddy’s computer, and tried to print them on the new printer. What a frustration! At first, it wouldn’t let me print because I couldn’t connect to the internet. Daddy solved that problem somehow. Then it printed a couple pages, but I didn’t get the correct pages on the back. So I printed two more pages and tried to print the back pages one at a time. Now the printer decided it wasn’t going to print. Why can’t they make printers simple to operate like they used to? Daddy worked on that problem for a while, and we finally got the two pages printed correctly front and back. But I’m going to have to figure out how to do the backs of multiple pages. (Mom and Dad were able to get this new printer through a gift that was given to them, and the printer is a blessing to them. However, the new printers do not work the same as the old printers. That is just a challenge of new technology. Please pray for them as they try to figure this out and other new things as well. Thank you.) This evening, I changed all the bold-faced, italicized words to blanks and the underlined italicized phrases on the lessons and have them ready to print for the students. The students are not ready for them yet, however. They still need to finish (if they didn’t already do it over their break time) their own sermon following the plan of the last lessons, and then preach it. November 29. A lot of time needed to be spent in the kitchen today. There were pancakes to make and pancake syrup, plus tea for my pre-breakfast drink. Eggs to cook to go with Daddy’s pancakes. Kefir to be strained and a new batch made. Things to put away—pancakes when they cooled, and the syrup. Made a small fruit salad for my own breakfast, and later warmed up a muffin to eat. There were two popos to be washed, ready to be peeled and cut up in the afternoon. I was thankful that dinner only needed to be warmed up in the microwave. Washed, peeled, and cut up a cucumber for supper. Cut up some pieces of cheese for Daddy to have a tomato and cheese sandwich for supper, and for myself to have on toast with some spaghetti-meat sauce. Fruit salad was for afternoon snack also, and the water filter pitcher needed to be refilled as well as my bottle of Celtic sea salt water. Dishes to do this evening. After the morning’s kitchen work (had been on my feet for about 2 1/2 hours or so) I was ready for a sit-down break. Finished prayer time and did some crocheting. Then Daddy and I went out for a short walk. When we came back, we had our worship time together. Enjoyed singing a couple old hymns, and one new hymn called “Jesus Only, Let Me See” by Oswald J. Smith, a really nice, restful song that I learned out of the hymn book when Daddy was in town. Before nap, I had to make the bed because I’d forgotten to do that job in the morning. After nap, besides cutting up the popo, I washed my hair. This evening, I copied e-mails onto a flash drive from Daddy’s computer so I can start answering them. November 25. Woke up to a cool, very clear morning. The fog did come down the valley from the east and came up part way into the Owedapeq valley, but again went up over the ridge and didn’t come up into the village. The fog was thin, and the sunshine shed its glow even through the fog. The temperature was down to 60º in the house, but it didn’t take long for the sun to warm things up. This afternoon, the skies clouded over, and rains came early in the evening. It rained quite hard for a while, and muddy water was coming through the pipes. Again there were lots of knocks on the door while I was fixing my breakfast. Made and drank a small pot of tea first, as I usually do on Wednesdays and Sundays. Then decided to make pancakes today. Hadn’t made them on Sunday, but ate some of the banana muffins instead. After breakfast, I continued with quiet time, and I crocheted quite a while this morning as I wanted to get this afghan done. Worked on it again this afternoon and have nearly finished the border. Praise the Lord for His help with this project. I trust it will be a blessing to the ones who receive it. Next thing I did was make the bed. Then decided to go outside a while and soak up some sunshine. The air didn’t feel quite as humid this morning, and it was refreshing to get out. The rest of the morning was spent in the kitchen. Got the kefir starter made which I’d been meaning to do for a long time. Hope it works okay as it is a few months past its expiration date. Then I husked uxai and cut it up with some onion to cook for dinners. Also peeled and cut up a pumpkin, some of which I enjoyed for dinner along with part of the uxai. MAF came in this morning to pick up a lady from another village, whose husband had in anger cut her up severely—her hands, feet, and head. It is a wonder she lived through the night. How can that man live with himself? He even went with her on the airplane to the hospital. After supper, I finished repainting the cow bookends. Now they look much better. Took a bath while the house was still fairly warm. Then waited for Daddy to call. It was after 8:00 before he got through, but at least he did get through. Praise the Lord, we were able to chat for a while. November 26. The Lord continued to send us rain throughout the whole of yesterevening, and it must have rained most of the night as I heard it raining whenever I woke up. It was still raining this morning, and the whole world was thick with fog. I wondered if there was any sunlight to charge the solar batteries, and am amazed at how little sunlight it takes to charge them. The fog and rain continued until late morning. I’m not sure exactly when the rain stopped. My mind must have been concentrating on whatever I was doing at the time. Not too many people came to the door this morning in the rain. This was the only morning since Daddy left that I felt the need to make a fire. The house was very damp and chilly. Quite a bit of time was needed to keep feeding the fire as the firewood has been chopped up quite small. Other time was spent as follows: Doing more crocheting on the afghan. Making a soup broth with soup mix, seaweed, and mushrooms added. Put that on the wood stove to cook and later added it to the veggies I had cooked the past couple days. Whipped it all up in the blender and enjoyed a bowlful for dinner. Found two little bells and attached a ribbon to each to hang one around the neck of each cow on the bookends I had finished painting yesterday. Fixed up the border on the crocheted plate mats so they lie flatter and look nicer. This afternoon, I folded the laundry I had washed on Monday and put things away. Did a lot of cleaning and rearranging in the office. Also rearranged some things in the tall cupboard, put the three boxes of cereal in the foot locker and straightened up things that were in there too. Was happy to be able to talk with Daddy this evening. He said it has been raining all day there. I am thankful that it has not been raining this afternoon and evening here and am praying for no rain through the night so MAF can bring Daddy home tomorrow. Otherwise he will not be able to get home until some time next week. It is outreach weekend too, if the men remember, so am praying for good weather for that too. November 23. The morning was busy but not at the computer. In between breakfast and answering the door, I washed the clothes and hung them out to dry. It was later than usual before I was able to sit down and crochet and pray. Later I went out and brought most of the clothes in as the sky looked threatening. A few weren’t quite dry so got them in later. Scrubbed the yams (they were quite dirty so that took a while) and peeled them and cut them up. Set them on the cook. Went out and got the rest of the clothes in. Heated up some greens to eat while I was waiting for the yams to cook as I was already hungry. The yams were done shortly, however, so I enjoyed a plateful of those. This afternoon, I thought I would print copies of Lait I Kamap for the students to read when we finish the culture course. Well, it wasn’t going to be done as quickly and easily as I expected. I decided to make just four copies, one for each of the couples and one for Judy, and I found just enough of one kind of letter-size paper to print them on, plus a few sheets extra, just in case I make a mistake. But I couldn’t find my copy anywhere. I thought for sure that I had one. So I’d have to make five. Printed the cover first. Oh, yes, the Canon does not print all the way to the right edge for some reason. I’d have to change the margins. That meant I had to change the font size, too, so I could still fit the same amount of material on a page. And I had to use the Canon because there are quite a few pictures in the book. About 4:30, I finally finished changing all the margins. Now I was hungry. Fixed a bowl of fruit and put dish water on to heat. Ate the fruit; did the dishes; ate supper; had a bath. Played a computer game while I was waiting for Daddy to call. No call—boo, hoo. So went ahead and printed out the books. Had to find a few more sheets of paper in order to get five copies. The paper I found is a little bit different than the other pages, but looks fine. Tomorrow I will collate them and put them together. November 24. Light rain most of the night. Sunshine and blue sky this morning with clouds across the north mountains and fog traveling down the Lamari valley. It was already 60º outside when I got up. I had just finished my smoothie this morning when Daddy called. I was happy to talk with him since I hadn’t been able to talk with him last night. Afterward I warmed up a couple muffins to eat, made the bed, finished my prayer time, and did some crocheting. Answered the door at least half dozen times this morning. Nuandauro brought uxai; Kaipo brought cucumbers; Bonita brought Danny’s phone to charge, and later Danny came to get it; several people came to ask if Daddy is coming back today. About mid-morning, I went out to see if I could dig out the ditch around the front of the house. Well, the side by the back porch needed it too so started there. Got as far as the corner of the front of the house; but it was already hot and humid out, and that was a hard job. For sit-down time, I proofread and printed the next two outreach lessons, and this afternoon, I printed the pictures to go with them. This evening, I started re-painting the cow bookends as they were looking pretty drab. Daddy said he would try to call again this evening; but, after I’d waited a good while, I decided to go ahead and heat water for washing up. The house is quite chilly this evening, and I didn’t want to wait too late. Had just finished when the phone rang. So, I did get to talk with Daddy again after all. How good God is! November 20. Saw stars in the wee hours of the morning, but it still didn’t get very cold during the night. There was a thin fog this morning—the first fog in several days, and it is very hot again today. While I was getting breakfast, I saw Mata coming into the yard with a machete. She said the family was coming to cut the grass. Praise the Lord! It really needed it. They spent a couple hours cutting and then raking. After breakfast, I tried sending the e-mail to Lonnie again, but it appeared that there was still no service. Then I sorted and washed the greens that Maria and her son had brought yesterday. Set them aside to dry off for a while. Put water in the pressure cooker, added some chicken powder, and cut up a large onion into the pot. Made the bed and folded the clothes Judy had washed on Wednesday. Today was laundry room day. Didn’t really do any cleaning there, but decided to fix the chimes that were taken down when the solar power was installed and a light was put up there. First they needed to be cleaned up a bit. That didn’t take too long as they weren’t really dirty. Then I looked for some embellishments to decorate them with. I tried painting the two wooden parts with a metallic copper paint, but it just made a shiny transparent coating over the pink paint that was used before. That was okay. Then I found a bunch of little gold-colored metallic sun sequins in my bead container. Also found a few small shiny blue beads. In another container I had some bigger shiny blue beads and a shiny blue butterfly charm. Glued the sun sequins and the small blue beads around the edge of the large circle and the small circle. (Five chimes are attached to the large circle. The small circle hangs down from the center of the large circle and rings the chimes when the wind blows. Last of all I attached another string below the small circle and strung the large beads on it, adding the butterfly charm at the bottom. Went and hung the chimes back up in the laundry room. All that took about an hour. Went and put art supplies away and then cut up the greens into the pressure cooker. Added salt and covered the cooker and set it on the burner to cook. Then warmed up my dinner and ate. About 1:00, the phone rang. It actually rang, and I could actually hear Daddy and talk with him. He said he had been trying throughout the morning and finally got through. I was happy to chat with him a good while before I had my nap. This afternoon, I tried sending the e-mail again but to no avail. While I was trying to send the e-mail, Apekio came by and visited with me for a while. After she left, it was about time to get supper. This evening, I printed out the outline of a soldier praying. Then I drew details, and cut it out. I want to use it for the logo for SKMS. “8) Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9) Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. 10) Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” Malachi 3:8-10 God pronounces a curse on those who rob Him, that is those who refuse to bring Him their tithes and offerings. At the same time, He promises a great blessing to those who will repent and bring Him their tithes. November 21. A cooler, cloudier day. Some rain this afternoon and evening. Didn’t do as much physical work this morning, although I did get pretty tired out cleaning off the office shelves above Daddy’s desk. One thing was, all the dust made my head all stuffed up, filled up my lungs and throat with phlegm, and kept making me sneeze. I must be quite allergic to dust. Quite a few people came to the door today for different reasons—a couple phones to charge this morning, a computer to charge this afternoon. Mata and the boys brought a hand of bananas to buy. Another thing I did this morning was hunt for a dead rat which I thought was in the schoolroom. I had started hunting for it yesterday, but couldn’t find it, but I found the missing rat poison dish (bottle lid). Couldn’t find the rat this morning either. When I got up from nap, it was smelling pretty strong. Something prompted me to go look behind the toilet in the spare bathroom. I went straight there and sure enough, there was a big ol’ rat behind the toilet. Went and got a couple plastic bags to put over my hand. Picked the rat up and folded it into the bags. Then took it out and dumped it in the garbage hole. Praise the Lord for helping me to find that before it got too decayed and too foul-smelling. I had just sat down and started writing in my journal when there was another knock on the door. Kaipo and Sonkenda had come to visit for a while. They wanted to look at the picture albums. I gave them a Bible story card before they left. Sonkenda said he needs some reading glasses and wants us to save him a pair when we get some. “16) Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. 17) And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.” Malachi 3:16,17 November 22. The night was warm, and there was a light rain for a good part of the night. It was already 62º outside at 6:30 this morning. But there was fog and a lot of clouds, so the house didn’t warm up too quickly. For breakfast, instead of making pancakes, I decided to have a couple of the banana muffins I made yesterday and put peanut butter, banana, and my popo syrup on those. That made a good filling breakfast. After breakfast, I spent a good while praying and crocheting. Also listened to a peaceful music CD. Tried again to send the e-mail , but still no service. After I picked out the next color for crocheting, I made the bed and filled up the washing machine. Plan to do laundry tomorrow. Did more planning of the mission school logo. Listened to a really good graduation message by Dr. Comfort based on I Corinthians 6:19,20. What a great reminder of all that Jesus did for us, the price He paid to purchase our redemption and make us His own. Did a little more crocheting while I was listening. This afternoon, I washed my hair, printed out copies of the next Revelation lesson, made tortillas. Praise the Lord, I was able to have some chat time with my best friend this evening, even though he often faded away and had to repeat. Once I lost him altogether, but I was happy to even hear him at all. My phone kept saying “No service” most of the day. After our chat time, I washed up, had a snack, and proofread the next two World View lessons and printed copies for Daddy and the seven students. Punched holes in the Revelation and World View lessons and put them in the notebooks. |
