November 18. Another very hot day, and not much wind. Lots of fires and smoke around. Still “No service” on the phone this morning. Daddy got through this afternoon, but then when he called back, I wasn’t hearing him. This evening, I was finally able to talk with him, praise the Lord. At first, I wasn’t hearing him, except for a few words now and then; but he just kept talking, and pretty soon the connection started working pretty well. Judy came before 7:00 to wash clothes, but I encouraged her to go to lotu first and come back after lotu. I didn’t have things ready yet anyway and was still getting my breakfast. She came back around 8:15. While she was washing clothes, I had prayer time and did some crocheting. After she left, I moved a box of extra kitchen items out from under the kitchen cupboard to under our bed. Made the bed. Went outside in the sunshine a while before it got too hot. Pulled a few weeds. Came back in and cleaned our bedroom windows. Cleaned up all the little screws and nails that were strewn around in front of the little nail/screw cabinet and filed most of them in a couple little drawers of the cabinet. Threw out a few that were no good. Worked for a while on the Revelation lessons for school. Just before eating dinner, I went out and brought the clothes in. This afternoon, I put water with dish soap and bleach in the little bucket that had been used to catch rain water that leaked into the entry room. It looks like it is no longer leaking there so I thought I could use that little bucket for cleaning jobs. While I had the soapy bleach water in it, I soaked the rag on which the students had been cleaning their muddy feet on rainy days. After that I cut a cylindrical oatmeal box in half and sorted part of the nails into each half. There were a few nails in each of two big boxes and they were taking up a lot of room that can be used for other things in the storage closet. Also worked more on the Revelation lesson. “For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.” Malachi 2:7 November 19. Another warm, dry season morning. Clouds and strong winds came up this afternoon, however, and the Lord sent just a little bit of rain. The air cooled down early this evening so it is a little cooler than the past couple nights. The day started early as I woke up before 5:45 to the sound of a hen cackling away not far from the house. It was already light out, and then I remembered, too, that I had left the phone on to charge all night. Had forgotten to turn it off before bed. The battery was very low after an hour on the phone with Daddy yesterday evening. I had time to get dressed, make and drink my lemon drink, and read my Bible before people started coming to the door. I had just started peeling and cutting up popo when Wan came to the door. He got five Maggi and some cooking oil to use with a meal he was planning for people who were helping with his garden. Back to cutting up popo when Apekio and Yunis came. Apekio brought a popo, but it was already ripe, and I was just in the middle of cutting up two ripe ones. Back to the popo again before there was a third knock. Maria brought a pumpkin (which I didn’t really need, but it looked softer than one of the ones I have so I got it anyway, especially since there isn’t much else for veggies these days). She wanted cooking oil, so I gave her that along with one of the Bible story cards I had printed. I didn’t realize that she has seven children. And her husband has left her and married another woman. Finally finished cutting up all the popo and cutting up some into smaller pieces and putting them into the blender—the beginning of my smoothie. Put the rest of the popo in the fridge. Peeled a couple ripe bananas, cut out the bad spots, and cut them up into the blender. Added some vitamin and protein powders, water, and almond milk. Blended up for a refreshing smoothie. By now it was already 8:00. After drinking the smoothie, I sat down to pray and crochet for a half hour or so. Then I cooked a small saucepan of oats for the rest of my breakfast. Physical work was next. Moved a tote full of extra bathroom items out of the storage room and put it in our bedroom. Reorganized some more things in the storage room and moved Daddy’s tools from the bedroom to the storage room. Moved mobile items out of the kitchen temporarily so I could clean the floor. Swept the bedroom and kitchen floors and then washed them. By the time all that was done, it was going on 11:00; and, needless to say, I was wiped out. Time to sit down and relax until dinner time. Wrote a bit in journal. Worked on the Revelation lessons. This afternoon, I finished the section of Revelation that I was working on. Then I took down the kitchen curtains and worked on fixing them to fit right. While I was working on the first one, I put dish water on to heat. The water was hot just about the time I finished. Washed the dishes, took out the garbage, and then warmed up and ate the rest of the kaukau. Then I put bath water on to heat. Fixed the second curtain while it was heating. Put the two extra curtains in the wash. Didn’t have time to sew them, and we don’t really need four curtains on the window. After bath, I ate an egg salad sandwich. Then I waited for Daddy to call, but there was no call. I tried to call him, but there was no ring. “No service” again this evening. Wrote an e-mail to Lonnie as today is her birthday, but no service for sending. “For I am the LORD, I change not….” Malachi 3:6

November 16. Another dry season day. Praise the Lord for about 32 men who cut grass on the airstrip today. After the usual morning routine, I was busy throughout the day writing e-mails in Daddy's computer so he can send them in town. Also wrote a short theme song for our missionary school. Thank the Lord that all the rest of the e-mails came in on the ACER this afternoon after about a week of getting one or less per day, and that in a half hour or hour’s time. It was nice to hear from Martha today with birthday wishes, and also nice to get a long letter from Connie. This morning, I also went outside for a while to get some sunshine and do more trimming of unhealthy-looking plants. Cut up a rather large pumpkin which filled the large skillet. We were all out of cooked veggies so we enjoyed the pumpkin along with the leftover rice patties. And there is lots of pumpkin left for me to relish the next couple days. “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Galatians 6:9 Thank you, Lord for this reminder. November 17. Seventy-six today. A quiet birthday since Daddy left about mid-morning for town. Praise the Lord for answered prayer and for giving us another dry season day, a fog-free morning, a beautiful day for a plane flight. The plane did not come early as expected because the MAF pilots had not yet returned from their conference in Hagen. So it was after 10:00 before Daddy was off to Goroka. Before he left, however, my sweet hubby gave me a nice birthday card with some kina in it as a birthday gift. There were plenty of people around when the plane came, but the rest of the day the village was quiet. This morning, I enjoyed a smoothie and a small panful of oatmeal for breakfast; but I still felt hungry after that so had a pancake too. After crocheting and praying a while, I scrubbed the kaukau so it would be ready for baking. Worked for a while on Studies in Revelation. Around 11:00, I turned on the oven, put the kaukau in a pan, and put it in the oven to bake. Then I got out onions to peel and cut up and cook with the ground beef for a beef and onion stew with dumplings. But first I’d better get the ingredients together for the dumplings. Had just finished that when there was a knock on the door. It was Yanahdo. She wanted some salt, cooking oil, and Maggi noodles. Then she wanted me to read the Scripture and pray with her. I was delighted to do that. It is always a pleasure to do something for someone else on my birthday. By the time she left, it was already 12:00. Kaukau was done, and it was too late to make the stew. Decided to warm up some of the pumpkin I cooked yesterday and eat that along with some kaukau. The stew can be made later. After nap, I busied myself with housework. Cleaned some dust out of the pitpit wall beside the bathroom sink. Cleaned the sink countertop, the two little shelves above it, and the mirror. Washed off the top of the hamper. Cleaned and dried the countertop across from the bathtub. Then cut a piece of linoleum to fit and glued it on. Set some heavy items on top to hold it down until it dried. After that, I peeled all the onions I had gotten out earlier so I could cut them up for the stew. Then I worked on filling up the washing machine, at the same time cutting up onions while more water was running into the bucket for dumping into the machine. Finished both jobs about the same time. Then put oil and the onions and the beef in a pan with oil and set it on the burner to start cooking. Tossed in some seasonings and put the lid on until the meat was good and brown. After that, I added water and chicken powder. While I was waiting for that to boil, I added water to the dumpling ingredients and stirred that in, ready to add to the stew as soon as the liquid was boiling in the pot. After adding the dumpling mixture to the pot, I set the timer for ten minutes and sat down at the computer to start writing the notes that Connie asked for on Revelation. When the timer rang, I served myself a bowlful of stew. It was too hot to eat right away, however, so worked a few more minutes on the Revelation notes until it cooled down a bit. After eating, I worked on the Revelation notes some more until my bath water was hot. And after bath, I wrote in my journal. Waited for Daddy to call, but he couldn’t get through. Called him, and he was going to try again after I hung up because he had a special deal. But after that, my phone just said “No service.” He finally got through, but only to have the connection lost again. Boo hoo! So passed the time doing some crocheting and praying, having a snack, playing a computer game, singing, and doing dishes. “4) According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5) Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,” Ephesians 1:4-5 Thank you, Lord, that it was the good pleasure of Thy will to adopt us as Your children. Help us to be holy and without blame before Thee in love. |
