September 10. We did a little rearrangement of classes this morning as Daddy was busy on the phone, texting, and on the computer, looking at e-mails. Anyway, while Daddy was busy, I took charge of the first class. Then we skipped to Outreach class which had already been assigned to Amos. And then I did culture class before Daddy was ready to come and teach Revelation class and then Outlines of Epistles. They are currently working on James outline. Elise did not come to class today, but stayed home to take care of Dallas. He is still very, very sick. Computer time today again was spent on the Revelation lesson. “To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him.” Daniel 9:9 How we praise God for his mercies and forgivenesses. September 11. It was another morning for a fire — a damp, chilly morning. Praise the Lord for His help today for us and for the students too. Praise the Lord for the help of the students after school, too — filling up the washing machine, filling up the wood box, filling up the small diesel container, and taking another light down in the meeting room as we anticipate they will want to tear that down soon. Praise the Lord for working out the flights for Bryan to get in and do the solar installation next week. And for the students being willing to cook food for him. Finished up another section today in the Revelation lesson. Have to do study questions and then do one more section in that lesson. September 12. Praise the Lord for a lovely day. The morning was very busy. After lotu at Liberty, Judy and her mother came to work. Judy washed clothes — an easy job today as there was only one load. Mata swept the floors. Then Amos came and helped us scout out a rat. We knew it was in the bathroom wall behind the bathtub somewhere, but could find no sign of it at the bottom of the wall. We knew there were no horizontal poles, only vertical ones, and it was very evident that a dead rat was in there somewhere. It couldn’t be hanging in mid-air, but where was it? Amos finally realized that there was a diagonal brace across the wall. Could the rat be hanging on the brace? The only way to find out was to take the end of the wall apart and lift up one corner. Sure enough! Quite a fat fella too. Amos picked it up with a plastic bag and carried it out to the garbage hole. After getting the mess cleaned up behind the bathtub, and since that wall was not in good condition, we covered the length of it with linoleum. We had been wanting to do that anyway as the wall always gets wet at bath time, and it was old and tacky looking. It took a while to measure, cut, fit the linoleum into place, and nail it down. The three Amos’s stayed to help; but when it was almost done, we encouraged them to go home and finish getting ready for the outreach they will be doing this weekend. While lunch was cooking, Daddy and I finished what was left of the job. It not only looks much better, but rats shouldn’t be able to get in and die there in the future. The afternoon, after nap, was busy with hair washing, cutting up popos, and cooking one to make popo crisp. Then I started working on the August progress report and finished it this evening. September 13. A foggy, overcast morning. A rainy afternoon and evening. But warm enough and dry enough this morning to go out for a walk and enjoy the fresh air. God is good. We thank Him also for time to talk with our daughters. How I miss them! Free time today was spent reinforcing the new bilum with strong crochet cotton so the bilum won’t stretch when it has a load in it. Also cut Daddy’s hair and made banana muffins. In the evening, Nuanda came to visit for a while.

September 7. Back to school for a few more days. Dallas was not able to be with us today, as he is feeling quite sick with this respiratory illness that he has had. This morning, I started working on the next Revelation lesson and spent time on that in the afternoon and evening as well. Finished the first part of it and now need to write Study Questions. Praise the Lord, we were finally able to send out an e-mail this evening. Hadn’t been able to get any service over the weekend up through this afternoon. “26) I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end. 27) He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.” Daniel 6:26,27 O that men would see God’s power in our lives and tremble and fear before Almighty God! September 8. Another lovely, fog-free, blue-sky morning. Praise the Lord for all His blessings! It was a somewhat hard morning for us and the school students. Matthew, Daniel, and Tomas decided to come early this morning to change some of the roofing iron and get the house ready for the solar installation. Since there was no previous warning for the school students, it was a big disappointment for them, and especially Amos. Amos got so discouraged that he left class and went to his house. Daddy talked with the rest of the class and tried to encourage them that they need to learn to stand strong in times of difficulty. This whole situation with the house has been a trying time for all of us, and we all need to stand together. After Daddy talked with the other students, they went down and talked with Amos. A little while later, he came back, and I was so thankful to see a smile on his face again. He had done the right thing and taken time to pray. Also, the others sought to encourage him. Then he went out and apologized to the ones working on the roof for having ill-will toward them, even though they didn’t know. Anyway, we are thankful to have that job done, and also to have a skylight in the kitchen. It is nearly always dark in there where I cook, do dishes, prepare food, etc. Even though the morning was fog-free, and the day was mostly cloudless, the skies were not smoke-free. Things are very dry, and a lot of burning is still covering the mountain sides. A lot of ashes have been coming into the house. And this evening, we are getting a little bit of rain. During the morning and afternoon, I had bits of time to continue working on the Revelation lesson I started yesterday. I was encouraged in studying about that old serpent, the Devil, and Satan, the accuser of the brethren, that, even though at times God allows him to test us, God always keeps His promises; and He will not allow us to be tempted above that we are able, but will, with the temptation also make a way to escape. In a way, we feel badly that the school students have to go through all this with us; yet, in another way, we realize that it is another learning experience, as they will face many trials when they get out on the battle front. This afternoon, Nuanda and Ana came, and Nuanda tried to help Daddy fix the toilet in the spare bathroom, but the parts from the new toilet bowl don’t match up with the old toilet tank so looks like we’ll have to get a new tank too. After they tried to fix the toilet, we talked a while before they went home. Then I fixed supper; and after supper, I added seasonings to the leftover pumpkin bits with its broth and pureed it for a little pumpkin soup. Also added water and more seasonings to the stiff mashed root veggies and pureed those. Then I did the dishes and afterward got ready for a bath. A little later, Amos came to share his heart a bit. September 9. The morning felt very warm and humid. Judy came early and did the laundry. The sun comes up a little earlier now so it was already getting bright out. Mike and Amos came early, too, and finished cutting the grass;. Mata raked, and she and the two boys piled the grass into boxes and carried it away. Mike and Amos also helped Daddy change the oil in the generator. It was well after 9:00 before classes started. We were thankful for no interruptions today, except for phone calls and texts between Daddy, Bryan, and SIL to see about plane flights for next week. SIL said they can probably do the flights if MAF can’t. Mid-afternoon, the temperature dropped quickly, and the Lord sent us a heavy rain, more rain than we have had in some time. Worked more on the Revelation lesson off and on today. Mike came this evening to share some things that were on his heart. How we appreciate these school students! They are not only our students, and our children in the faith, but they are truly our friends—willing to receive correction, but also willing to humbly intreat us when they see something they think is not right; and willing to share their burdens with us as well as willing to bear our burdens with us. September 4. Another fogless morning, but—cloudless also. Praise the Lord for lovely sunshine. In the afternoon, the skies began to fill with clouds; strong, cool winds came up; and the temperature dropped quickly. The day did not go as planned; but God’s ways are not our ways, and He knew what lay ahead for today. We learned early this morning that MAF was coming and would be taking out a load of coffee. It was after mid-morning before Brad came. He was the sole pilot today. We were thankful for his taking the time to come down to the house to visit for a while and lend a listening ear. Then he prayed with us before he left and said that MAF would be having a prayer meeting tonight and would pray for us. The stress was at a super high level today. I had been wondering what to make for dinner today since we just had two days of kaukau, and before that we had three days of rice and tuna. During the night I thought of lentil patties. Lentils should be a good substitute for meat. So this morning, I cooked some lentils with seaweed and a number of herbs. Mixed that with flour, etc. at dinner time, and made it into patties to cook on the griddle. Very tasty, and a good filling meal along with some fresh cooked pumpkin. “34) And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation: 35) And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?” Daniel 4:34,35 Amen! September 5. Praise the Lord for sunshine this morning to dry the clothes. Praise the Lord for Judy’s willingness to do the laundry and sweep the floors in Sunny’s place. I was so discouraged yesterday afternoon and evening; but the Lord put on my heart to look back at some of the verses He gave us when we were going through a similar situation in years past. "And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee." (2 Chronicles 14:11) "Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded." (2 Chronicles 15:7) "12) O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee. 15)….Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's. 17)Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you." 2 Chronicles 20:12,15b,17 Praise the Lord for His encouragement as we set our eyes on our Ebenezer! This morning, I set the verses up for printing so we can hang them up somewhere for future encouragement. This afternoon and evening, I worked on a new music lesson, and this evening, I printed the verses and the music lessons. Daddy received a text from the CRMF worker today saying that our solar equipment tested out well and that he would like to come in here and set things up week after next. Praise the Lord, and we pray that nothing or nobody will hinder the work of installation if this is the Lord’s will and time. September 6. Praise the Lord for a lovely morning so we could get out in the fresh air and sunshine while GIBC was having their meeting. Previous to that, Daddy and I spent time together singing, sharing the Word, and praying. By the time we got back from our walk, it was too late to make a dinner. So I wrote an e-mail, and then we had lunch, planning to make dinner in the evening. So dinner preparations took up quite a bit of afternoon time—washing, peeling and cutting up potatoes and yams to make mashed potatoes/yams; and washing cutting, peeling, and cutting up pumpkin. “Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.” Daniel 6:4 May we have such a testimony as Daniel.
September 2. A rainy laundry day. Judy came early to wash clothes. Not long after she hung them out, the rains started. But there was no place to hang them in the house as the mission students would soon be here for school. They had gone to lotu at Liberty and arrived here a little after 9:00. Daddy did start the wood stove today because of the damp weather. I washed up the rest of the kaukau and put it in the wood stove oven to bake. Had to keep moving them around as the oven only gets hot right next to the firebox. So as soon as one kaukau was done, I moved it to the opposite side and moved another over next to the firebox. I wrote a few e-mails while Daddy was teaching the Revelation class. I really enjoyed the baked kaukau for dinner. Hadn’t had it baked for a long time as Daddy doesn’t care for it that way. After dinner, we went out and brought the clothes in. The rain had been stopped for a while, and there was a breeze so several items were already dry, and the rest of the clothes were almost dry. We hung shirts on hangers and everything else on the lines in the schoolroom. After the morning’s incident, it was a bit hard to sleep at nap time, but we were thankful to get a little rest. In the evening, four GIBC men came to “humbly” plead with Daddy about changing his mind. They said we could stay in the house, but they really need to have some of the building supplies from this house for their new church building. After they left, Amos came to see what they wanted. He had told Nuanda about what had happened in the morning, and Nuanda was at Amos’s house waiting to come see us. Nuanda did not come up with Amos because the four men were standing at the end of our house talking. Amos watched for them to leave before he and Pastor Nuanda, and Mike and Dallas too, came to talk with us. How thankful we are for their support and their counsel! Sometimes it is hard to think right in the midst of a difficult situation. The Lord gave these men wisdom to encourage and direct our thinking with a correct Biblical answer. Even though the answer may mean more hardships, it is better to suffer for well-doing than for wrong-doing. September 3. Another day like yesterday—a fogless morning, but cloudy, chilly, and rainy. A fire going in the wood stove again to keep the dampness out of the house. We need to keep the mold down as much as we can. There is no school today because the students are gathering food to cook for the Liberty men who will be coming to do some work for us on the house tomorrow. So this morning I did a bit of sewing, trying to add to the width of a bed sheet so it will fit better on our over-sized queen bed. Then I wrote an e-mail and wrote a bit in my journal. Also finished proofreading the Revelation lesson on the Laodicean church so all the lessons in the file have been proofread now. Just need to print this last lesson. At least it is not as long as the one before it. The GIBC people are standing up walls for their new church building today. We will be happy for them to have that done and be away from the house. I’m sure they will be too. This afternoon, I looked for pictures so I could try to make a soldier kneeling at the cross. We are considering calling the training school Soldiers of Christ Missionary School and want to repaint the pulpit to fit the name. We need to ask Nuanda about having the school established as a ministry of Liberty Baptist. This evening, I searched for pictures and fixed some up to use for painting. August 31. Back to school today—at last, after what seemed like a very long week last week. Praise the Lord for His presence with us throughout each trial. During part of my free time this morning, I started an e-mail to C&C. Later in the morning, I worked on I John outline. After school, the men stayed and helped take light fixtures down in the far end of the meeting room, put one of them up in another place in the near end, and put coffee plastic across the room to divide the section that belongs to GIBC from the section that goes with the house. It was quite late when we had dinner and even later, of course, when we went to nap. After nap, Daddy and I hunted for something to attach to the church area door so a lock could be put on the outside. We were thankful to find just the right thing and also to clean out and throw out some junk that will probably never be useful. This evening, shortly after we sat down for supper, and Daddy had gone down to start the generator, there was a knock on the door. When I opened the door, how surprised I was to see Maura standing there! Thania is watching over their Dad right now, and Maura is back in the village for a break. She came back three weeks ago with those who attended the ladies’ meetings at Bantura. After she left, we put water on for bath. A little later, I did dishes and then wrote more in the e-mail to C&C, but didn’t finish it. “20) Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: 21) And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: 22) He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.” Daniel 2:20-22 Blessed be the name of our sovereign God who is omniscient and omnipotent. September 1. Wow! the beginning of the ninth month of the year already! A chilly, but fogless morning, with little dew. The sun shed its warm rays upon the village, and the day warmed up quickly. Judy left school early today as she was coming down with a cold and did not feel well. Dallas has been battling a bad cold too. During free time this morning, I finished the e-mail to the girls. Also worked on the I John outline. After school today, the men put a latch on the meeting room door so it can be locked, and Mata filled up the washing machine. This afternoon, I proofread the prophecy document I had typed for Nuanda, so was able to print out copies this evening. Also finished the I John outline this evening—praise the Lord! “But there is a God in heaven….” Daniel 2:28a Powerful words! How thankful I am that there is an omnipotent and omniscient God in heaven! August 3. A day for shopping. Started out early this morning, after breakfast, of course. To Seng Da first, then Istana, King Wee, and back to the house with the items we had bought. After a short break, we went to Goroka Wantok Market (formerly Goroka Food Mart) and then to Hot Spot. Back to the house again for dinner. Browned up some ground beef to go with the kaukau and veggies that were leftover from yesterday. After dinner, I was very tired and took a somewhat long nap. It was going on 3:00 before I woke up. Then we went to all the pharmacies, mainly to check on what vitamins are available and the prices. Also went to Goroka Stationery to check on printers. Met a nice young man who says he is Baptist, but has been backslidden and hasn’t been to church for a while. He said they can give us a discount on the printer and toner, and also give one free toner with the printer. We need to check on the printer online to see how economical it is. After Goroka stationery, we went to Papindo and bought a few more groceries there. It was about 5:00 when we headed home for supper. Enjoyed a nice tomato and cheese sandwich for supper, using one of the tomatoes we had bought at King Wee this morning. Right after supper, I washed up the dishes. There was quite a stack of them as they hadn’t been washed since yesterday afternoon. Finished crocheting the stars for the bilum too. August 4. Today, I only went out shopping in the morning — first to Goroka Wantok Mart and then to a couple hardware stores. Came back to the house to drop off cargo and get a snack. Then went uptown to YuYu and Chem Care. Had tomato and cheese sandwiches for lunch as we were to go out to the Watsons for supper in the evening. After nap, I started on the newsletter and got the rest of the stars stitched onto the bilum. Outlined the bird of paradise so I could cross stitch it later. Had a shower and started cross stitching until it was time to go — a little before 6:00. Enjoyed a nice meal with Glenys and Jonny and their four daughters — Katy, Alana, Danielle, and Lucy. Also had a good time of fellowship and getting acquainted with Glenys and Jonny. Came back to the flat a little after 8:00, too tired to work on the newsletter so just did a little cross stitching on the bird until almost bedtime. Then Daddy and I did some proofreading of Hebrews and had prayer before going off to bed. August 5. We didn’t go anywhere today. There was plenty to do here, and we needed time to relax more than we needed to do shopping. I also had yesterday’s dishes to wash since we went out for supper last night, and I hadn’t even thought of doing them in the afternoon. There was laundry to do this morning too. I labored over the newsletter a bit in the morning, but even more this afternoon until supper time when I finally finished the body of the letter. Sometimes it is so hard to know what to write and how to write it. This evening, I added some new missionary quotes and then had Daddy proofread the letter. David came to visit a while just before noon so we had a little bit late dinner. Washed up today’s dishes this evening. Also finished cross stitching the bird of paradise so am now ready to start crocheting the back side of the bilum. August 6. I didn’t go anywhere again today. Daddy went out shopping most of the day. It was a very cool day. Had my light jacket on all day, and another jacket with it this evening. The Lord sent us a good rain this afternoon, and it is raining yet this evening. This morning, I wrote a couple e-mails -- got the progress report sent off to Pastor Ogle and the newsletter to C&C. This afternoon, I wrote an e-mail with the acknowledgments for the newsletters. Prepared some veggies for supper. There was still enough kaukau left over to go with the veggies. Did up the dishes shortly after supper. The water wasn’t very hot this evening since there was no sunshine today. Daddy learned that Glenys is sick and did not fly today. August 7. It was another very cool morning, and cloudy; but the Lord did send us a little sunshine today. Didn’t go out this morning, but worked on writing e-mails. Also got more journal notes ready to send to Connie. Daddy tried to get outlook set up in the Lenovo but without any success. Later in the morning, he went looking for a generator. Couldn’t find anything the size he was looking for so we will probably have to get another 5KVA. At noon, we went out together to Papindo for lunch. Met up with Wilson outside Bintangor, and he came back to the flat with us to help Daddy pack up a couple more boxes, load up the truck, and take cargo over to the hangar. Found out that Glenys is still sick. I took a nap after they left for the hangar and then started an e-mail to C&C. Worked on that until supper time, and finished it in the evening. Also worked more on crocheting this evening. August 8. Praise the Lord for a better night’s sleep last night! The Lord gave us another cool day, but with a little more sunshine than the day before. Then He sent us a little rain this evening. After breakfast and quiet time, we enjoyed about an hour’s talk with Martha. Then Daddy went out to do a little bit of shopping. I did a little bit of crocheting, and then it was already time to fix dinner. Put a pot of rice on to cook. Diced up the chicken, sautéed it with some onion, added water and bouillon and let it cook, mixed up some flour and water for gravy. Everything was nearly done when Daddy came back. There were leftover veggies that I had prepared yesterday. After dinner, I had a welcome nap and afterward did some more crocheting. August 9. Connie’s birthday. My, how fast the years have flown! After breakfast and quiet time this morning, we enjoyed a nice long chat with our daughters; and I crocheted while we were chatting. How nice it would be to give them a big hug! By then it was mid-morning so we decided to take a stretch outside and get some sunshine and exercise. While we were out the Wilsons (Jonathan and Kathy), our neighbors in the next door flat, came back from the meeting at EBC. Then they came down to chat with us outside. After a while, we needed to sit down again so we went up to their apartment and talked with them until a little past noon. They are nice folks and easy to converse with. Came back over to our flat for lunch and nap. Then I washed my hair and did a little more crocheting. Jonathan came over and invited us to come play Querkel (or however it is spelled) in the evening. So I washed up the dishes right away after supper, and at 6:30 we went next door. First, we had a short devotional together—a reading from The Daily Bread, and then we prayed for each other. Then we played Querkel and had snacks and talked some more. At 9:00, we came back to our own flat. |
