October 9. Friday. The fifth and last day for now for the men to work on the house. Matthew wanted again to do a lot of extra work, but Daddy told them just to put the other window in and finish the roof and that will be enough. It still needs a new veranda; and the rest of the old floor and foundation needs to be torn down; and the yard needs to be cleaned up. I was thankful to be feeling much better today and to be able to eat more. Still have somewhat of a headache, and the tummy isn’t sitting down too well yet. The weather today was mostly cloudy with frequent periods of rain, but some short periods of sunshine as well. It is raining quite steadily this evening and coming down harder and harder. We will see if the roof leaks again like it did last night. It may not now that the roof has been nailed down, but there are some holes in the old pieces of roofing iron, so again it may leak. Wrote a long e-mail to C&C this morning. Did some crocheting. Didn’t really feel much like working at the computer so didn’t accomplish much there. Cooked a small pot of rice and chicken noodles at noon so the men who were working could have something to eat. Didn’t have much else to give them.. SIL came in around noon with cargo for Philemon. Took out some of Danny’s coffee as well as the injured young man, Zachariah. SIL came back for a second round of coffee later. October 10. No water all night and all day. Amos went up the pipeline for us this morning to check things out. Met up with Tomas, and they discovered that one section of the line near the top of the airstrip is all blocked up with mud and needs to be taken apart and cleaned out. We did have enough water left in the buckets for Judy to do the laundry so were thankful for that. Her two sisters each carried a bucket of water this morning, and we thought that would be enough until they got the pipeline fixed. But neither Amos nor Tomas was able to fix it today so will work on it on Monday. It takes a lot more time to cook and clean up the kitchen when there is only water that needs to be dipped out of a bucket. Late this afternoon, Amos and Mata each carried another bucket of water for us. How thankful we are for all those who are such a help to us! Judy also swept the floors and burned the trash. Daddy put the new doorknob on the front door. After supper, I cut up two popo and made one into a popo crisp. Today I got the monthly update written and should be able to have it ready to send to Christy tomorrow. Lately I have really struggled with what to say, which causes me to depend that much more on the Lord’s leading. October 11. A pretty, sunny day after the fog lifted. We had just barely gotten up this morning when Judy and Evelin came to carry water for us. We are still without running water. Amos will try to work on it tomorrow. Don’t know how he will get the mud cleaned out of the pipe, but pray that he can. After breakfast and quiet time, I worked on the monthly updates and got the ones for mailing ready to go via e-mail to C&C. Then we went out for our Sunday walk, thankful for the exercise and fresh air. It was still a little cool and windy so we did take our jackets with us. We saw the airstrip needs a lot of work before the next plane comes in. The grass is getting very high, and we saw three fairly large places where people’s pigs had dug up the ground. After we got back, we had our lotu time together. GBC met at Matthew’s house so we didn’t have to think about working around their schedule. It was refreshing to sing, share the word, and pray together. Daddy shared his burden to start a Bible study with the young men of the village. This afternoon, I worked on a new music lesson. Judy and Evelin came along to carry water for us again, and they were so helpful in getting that roofing iron put under the house. Then they each took a bucket and went and filled it up with water for us. This evening, I enjoyed a pour over bath since we had a little more water in the buckets than last night. Also did the dishes and some other work in the kitchen. Now it is time for bed. Good-night.

October 7. Another day has nearly passed. Thanks to God for the sunshine and for the rain.. Thanks for safety and sleep through the night and that we weren’t awakened by the trouble in the village. Thanks to God for the trials. Thanks for fresh, warm banana-raisin muffins. Thanks for a good connection for sending and receiving e-mails. Thanks for the wall being finished and the outside door put back on. Thanks for time to pray and time to be encouraged in the Word. Thanks for Judy coming to wash clothes. Thanks for time to get out in the sunshine and bring the dry clothes in, and for the fresh-smelling clean clothes. Thanks for music CD’s to play and for the battery pack for the CD player. We learned from Mike when we got up this morning that a young man had been brought over here from Marivo about 2:00 a.m. seriously injured. A young married lady had seduced him and he was caught by her family. They shot him in the back with an arrow, threw him outside and cut him a number of places with a machete. At first it was thought that the arrow went into his bone, and they were calling for Wayantis to get money together to pay for him to be flown out to the hospital as they expected him to die. There were no planes available to take him out today and everyone was quite concerned. Later they realized that the arrow had only grazed his bone, and he could survive until a plane is available. As a result of all that was going on to try to settle things, nobody came to work on the house this morning. Matthew came for a little while and got a piece of bamboo cut for the wall. However, Matthew came back this afternoon, and Mike was here, as well as Thomas and Gibson. A few more people trickled in later. Praise the Lord they finished getting both layers of wall up with coffee plastic in between and got the door on just after dark. So the house should be a little less vulnerable tonight. It was another very stressful day, but the Lord helped me to be thankful and to think of the great need of being more faithful to share the gospel whenever there is opportunity. The need is so great, and the church has failed to do its job. We are thankful that Nuanda’s church has more of a vision, and we pray that vision will continue to grow and bear much fruit. “32) For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all. 33) O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!” Romans 11:32-33 October 8. Today was a slow, lazy day. My head hurt too much to do anything, and my stomach was very unhappy too. Late yesterday evening, I came down with a migraine and a super bad headache. When I went to bed, I couldn’t sleep, my head hurt so much. I finally got up and took some aspirin, but not long after that, another migraine came along, followed by an even worse headache. My tummy became even more unhappy. Got up again and took some activated charcoal to see if that would help settle my stomach. It did give just a bit of relief, but I was thankful for any amount of relief. It still took me quite a while to get to sleep after that, but it was a fitful sleep as I was quite restless and could not get comfortable. Didn’t eat much today and took activated charcoal off and on. Went back to bed mid-morning for a nap; but neither that nor my afternoon nap afforded much comfort. I didn’t really feel like doing much when I was up, and I felt pretty weak. Daddy and I did start taking the old screen off the two windows to be put up in the outer room. Wan came around after a while, and he helped put the new screen on. He also helped Daddy put the screen door up. Matthew did only a little work today, but at least got the outer wall framed. I did a little crocheting, wrote an e-mail to Christy for her spiritual birthday, and started making some Bible story note cards to give away and share the good news with people who come. We had a pretty strong tremor around 4:00 this afternoon. Was about ready to go outside, but then it slowed down. We’ve had quite a few tremors lately, most of them small ones. “Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer.” Romans 12:12 October 5. The Lord gave us a dry season morning and a rainy season evening. Matthew came early this morning to tell Daddy that the men were planning to tear down the meeting room today. It was 9:00 before they got started. They decided they had to take the roof off first in order to move the wall in. Then they decided they would have to redo the whole wall because it was too hard to move the wall in. Since they were going to redo the whole wall, We asked them to put the spaces for the door and windows in different places. Since there was no school, Daddy and I did some destruction and construction too. First, we took apart the old school cupboard that was made with scraps of plywood pieced together. It had already been taken off the wall and just needed to be taken apart. Then Daddy started making a battery pack for the CD player, and I started making a stand for the AquaRain (water filter). Daddy helped with sawing, pulling some nails out of the pieces of wood I needed to use, and nailing the frame to the floor. I also got three e-mails ready to go to C&C—one was a forward with the invoice for the printer, the other a pdf copy of the invoice, and the other journal notes. Daddy tried a couple times during the day to send them, but maybe the weather was too sunny. They sent right out this evening when it was rainy. 😊 Dallas came in to talk a while before I had finished getting the third e-mail ready. He has been sick again the past few days with the same sickness. He said he had also had it in December. Then Thomas came in for something, I forget what, and saw that Daddy was trying to make a battery pack. He had some good suggestions and wanted to help. He loves doing projects like that. He had to go back and help the other GBC people first, but came back later and finished making the battery pack. Daddy had his nap first this afternoon, and I stayed up in case the men needed nails or something. Crocheting was the easiest thing to do when tired so that’s what I did until Daddy got up. Then I had my nap. Afterward, I worked on the September progress report and finished it early this evening. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:1 No condemnation! No verdict pronouncing us guilty! Free from condemnation! What a precious promise! October 6. Another day of no school. And another day when the GBC men worked all day. So it appears that there won’t be school tomorrow either. In between all the interruptions (going back and forth to answer questions and check things out) most of my day was spent getting the Bible outline lessons perfected and completed. Hopefully everything is organized correctly now. I will just have to proofread before I do any printing. Also spent a frustrating hour (almost) printing out the last lesson in the first Revelation file. The file must have something wrong with it as it takes forever for Publisher to respond each time I tell it to print a page or several pages. So I’m thankful that all of that first file is now printed. I just need to punch holes and get the papers ready to go in the students’ notebooks. In the evening Mike came to see how things were going and how we were doing. Shortly after he came, Nuanda came also to see how we were doing. They were both concerned about the pitpit* wall being exposed with no outer bamboo wall as the house is much more vulnerable with the pitpit wall and also the lack of a strong lock on the inner door. Nuanda said he would talk to his church tomorrow about coming to help so we can get the job done. Mike decided that he would go home and get his “bed” and blankets and come sleep here for the night. *Pitpit – a small reed. It can be broken down, flattened, and woven like bamboo but is not as strong and stable. It does make good inside walls. October 2. Another very cold, mostly cloudy day. So today Daddy got a fire going in the wood stove. With that, I was able to bake some of the kaukau in the wood stove oven and boil the rest of it on top of the wood stove. Wrote another e-mail this morning — to Margaret this time. Most of my other computer time today was used to get the next part of the outline course organized. Before supper, there was a bunch of greens to sort and wash and a few green onions to wash to go with the greens. Then I washed and cut up tomato and cucumber to go with our supper. After supper and bath, I cut up the greens and onions into the pressure cooker and set them on to cook. Also put dish water on to heat, and shortly it was ready for washing dishes. “17) For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) 18) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.” Romans 5:17-18 October 3. There was no lotu bell at Liberty this morning. The group that had carried coffee yesterday for Danny had not yet returned. We learned that they had gone beyond Konkonbira so wouldn’t be back until today. Because there was no lotu down below, Judy came early to do laundry; but I hadn’t gotten things ready yet as I had just barely gotten up and dressed so Daddy asked her to come back a bit later. It was chilly and damp this morning so Daddy got a fire going in the wood stove. There wasn’t much sunshine to dry the clothes, but there was a good amount of wind and the air outside warmed up quickly. Later in the morning, there was a good amount of blue sky and some sunshine. And this afternoon, there was lots of sunshine, and the house was pleasantly warm. After Judy finished the laundry, she swept all the floors. Then she had a cup of coffee and some bananas before heading home. I did a little crocheting today and quite a bit of work on the Bible outline lessons. I fixed some carrots for dinner to go with the kaukau I had cooked yesterday. Went out and brought in all the clothes that were dry. Daddy brought in the last four items after dinner. This afternoon, I washed my hair and cut up two small popo that were ripe and ready to be cut. We just finished up the last of the other popo today. “2) God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?... 6) Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7) For he that is dead is freed from sin…. 11) Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord…. 18) Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness…. 22) But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:2,6,7,11,18,22,23 October 4. The Lord gave us a lovely sunshiny day. Even though it was quite chilly early in the morning, everything warmed up quickly. Before making our Sunday pancakes; I made myself a small pot of tea. Read Bible while I was eating breakfast. Made bed and folded clothes after breakfast. Then had prayer time and crocheted. Went outside for a few minutes while Daddy called Christy to see if she could get rid of a too-big e-mail for us. (Later in the day, he was able to get the other e-mails in.) In the afternoon, I got journal notes together for C&C. Copied the printer invoice from Daddy’s computer onto a flash drive. Also printed more outreach lessons and pictures for school this week. Had planned to get the September progress report ready in the evening, but Nuanda came to visit and was here until well after 9:00. We are always encouraged by his visits. He needs lots of prayer, he has so much on his shoulders. We asked him how his preaching went a week ago today. He said it went well, and a number of people made things right with the Lord. Some of them said they did not know that part of the feast involved calling on the spirits of their ancestors. (But why did they take part in that after they found out?) Nuanda also told us that people did intend to fight on Monday when they came up to meet the group from the other village at the top of the airstrip. They intended to kill "S" for starting everything. It was all Nuanda could do to restrain them. He also had to compel "S" to contribute to the payment for the serious injury the young man from the other village received since "S" was responsible for all the problems and hadn’t contributed anything. So he went and got K62 together. Altogether they gave the young man a pig (K600) and K1000 cash. We’re thankful for the wisdom the Lord gives Nuanda to help in these difficult situations. We talked to Nuanda too about putting the missionary training school under LIBC, and he said he had been talking about it with the church. He said it would be fine to call it Solders of Christ Missionary School, ministry of Liberty Independent Baptist Church. “For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The LORD, The God of hosts, is his name.” Amos 4:13 September 30. School started late today, as the students were late coming up from lotu. They had been talking with Pastor Nuanda and some of the men about their joining the church after six months (that will be three months from now), about putting the missionary training school under Liberty, and about the ladies’ gathering being planned for July of 2021. So they only had three classes today—Revelation, outreach, and Bible outlines. Since I didn’t have to teach a class today, I got busy crocheting a couple small place mats. Now that we are heating leftovers in the microwave, we need something to put the hot dishes on at the table. (Have just been using potholders.) Finished the second placemat about 9:00 this evening, except for getting the ends tucked in. October 1. It has been a very cold day. While Daddy was teaching the world view and Revelation classes this morning, I wrote an e-mail to Martha. Later in the morning, I printed the next four lessons for world view class. Most of the rest of the day and evening was spent perfecting Daddy’s notes for teaching students to make outlines for preaching “3) For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. 4) Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. 5) But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.” Romans 4:3-5 September 28. Back to school today. The first couple hours were spent in discussion of matters that were quite important – the outreach work in Kairaba, happenings in the village that they need to be involved in tomorrow, the work coming up when GBC will tear down the existing meeting room and the work of building a new wall where their tearing down will end, the relationship between them, us, the school, and Liberty Baptist…. Because of that, we cancelled outreach class (but they are a good ways ahead in that). I worked on the lessons on elders and deacons off and on during the day and evening. The weather turned very cold and damp this afternoon so Daddy got a fire going in the wood stove. September 29. Even though there was no school today, there was still plenty to do. I made a smoothie for an early breakfast drink. Then I started filling up the washing machine so I could wash clothes. Daddy helped with the filling up. While the clothes were washing, I made a small saucepan full of oatmeal and ate that. I was delighted to get out into the sunshine to hang out the clothes. When all that was done, it was time to sit down a while—to pray and to crochet. After a sit-down rest, I did some walking and then cut up two ripe popo. One was red meat and one yellow so I put half of each into a skillet for making popo crisp and half into a storage container to eat raw. By the time I had finished making the popo crisp, it was time to get dinner. Diced up one of the chicken fillet pieces and trimmed, washed, and diced up some green onions. Put them all in a large saucepan to brown in hot oil and butter. Seasoned them and then added rice and water for a chicken ‘n’ rice dinner. There were leftover veggies in the fridge. While that was cooking, I went out and brought in the clothes that were dry. After dinner, Daddy brought the rest of the clothes in while I was cleaning up the kitchen. This afternoon, I put eggs on to boil so I could make egg salad for sandwiches for supper. Printed out eight copies of 1 Jon and the 1 Jon outline—one copy of each for Daddy and one copy of each for each of the seven students. Also wrote an e-mail and deleted 90 e-mails out of the in-box. This evening, I started setting up a file for the Romans outline. |
