April 17. Lots to do this morning before heading off to church. Washed hair, fixed Daddy’s breakfast and then mine, had quiet time, finished packing. Went off to church a little before 9:30, but left after Sunday school so we could have lunch and a nap before heading up to TN. Left around 2:30 for Roan Mountain, thinking that, on the winding roads, it would take us about three hours. Pastor Honeycutt had told Daddy it would only take about two hours, and he was right. Got to the church around 4:30. A couple people were sitting inside the church building. One of them helped Daddy set up things for showing the slide presentation. I sat in the car and crocheted a while and then went in and set up the display. Pastor Honeycutt came early and talked with us a little bit, but also made sure that he greeted all of his church members as they came in. Our heart went out to the pastor as he told us about the trials he went through with his wife having cancer for six years and then passing away three years ago, his daughter having leukemia about that time and having to have bone marrow transplant, and also trials within the church. It was such a hard time for Pastor Honeycutt. Even though their church attendance is still about half what it was, the Lord has still been blessing the radio ministry, bringing students in for Bible school, and allowing them to continue their printing ministry. The meeting went well except for not being able to get good sound on the presentation. They finally put a microphone near the computer to pick up the sound. We started the presentation three times before it was loud enough for them to hear. Then Daddy preached for about 20 minutes on “Why Missionaries Do”… and covered certain areas like learn language, study the culture, translate the Scriputres…. After the meeting, Pastor Honeycutt took us out to Elizabeth to the motel where we would be staying. We were thankful to even have a place to stay as the motels were full of people who had come for the Nascar races. After he left us, Daddy and I went out to find a place to eat. Drove through town and back and didn’t really see a place we wanted to go. Finally came back to the Lone Star Steakhouse close to the motel, but after we got in there, we found that the prices were way above our budget. So we left there and went back uptown to Wendy’s. By then I was more than hungry so was thankful for just anything to eat. “34Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. 35Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. 36And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. 37And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. 38I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.” John 4:34-38

April 15. It was quite chilly when we hung out clothes this morning, and our hands got pretty cold. I was thankful for Daddy’s help, or I would have had to hang them out in more than one session. Wrote several e-mails this morning as well. (Will I ever catch up?) Got out the overnight case and started packing for our trip. Hung up the PNG fabric map in the living room, emptied a couple boxes, and rearranged things on the PNG display shelf. (See pictures above) Daddy went off to get a few groceries and get the air checked in the car tires and have a wiper put on the back windshield. For lunch and exercise, we walked down to Subway. Enjoyed a tuna sub on whole wheat, apple juice, and raspberry cheesecake cookie. This afternoon, I got the monthly update file ready for acknowledging supporters and then made a separate address file for our supporters and regular monthly update recipients. The computer was acting naughty and doing things it wasn’t supposed to do which was a little frustrating. “And God remembered Noah….” Genesis 8:1a God remembers His people. He never forsakes them. He meets them in their time of need. April 16. A busy day is drawing to a close. The morning was busy with many things - more packing, making a long-sleeved blouse into a short-sleeved one, acknowledging supporters, printing monthly updates and e-mailing others. This afternoon I cut Daddy’s hair, finished up all but last-minute packing, printed envelopes for the update letters, updated income report. I think that covers everything. Am happy to sit and relax for a while now before doing dishes. April 13. A cooler day, but more sunshine. Swept out our bathroom and bedroom this morning. Don’t know how so much dust gets in the house with the windows closed, but scads of black dust collects in here. Sweeping will be an endless job. Started setting up a power point presentation of PNG for showing to non-church people. Was thankful to get another box unpacked today too, as well as starting to add footnotes to Matthew (Pidgin translation) with meanings of some of the unfamiliar words. Around 4:00, Daddy and I went for a short walk around the block. Bro. Gleiser preached tonight from Acts chapter 11 about a special church member, Barnabas, who was an encourager to many people, including apostle Paul. “14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3:14-18 April 14. The Lord gave us a lovely, sunshiny day today. After breakfast and quiet time, I did a small bit of organizing in the living room. Then about 9:15, Daddy and I headed off to Dr. Prime’s office. He was able to do a bit more adjusting today as well as more massage and traction. I was thankful for the relief. It’s too bad that I’ll miss next week since we’ll be out traveling. I hope the long hours in the car don’t set me back too much. From Dr. Prime’s office, we went over to Crossroads Thrift Store so Daddy could look for a suit. Most of the suit jackets would have been okay if the sleeves had been long enough. He did find one suit that fit nice; but as we looked it over, we found the there was a tear in the seam of the trousers that couldn’t be fixed because the material was frayed. Got back home around 10:30. Most of the rest of the day, I spent finishing up the footnotes (word definitions) in the translation of Matthew. I did take a break before noon to make the rest of the soup into a casserole for our dinner. And this afternoon around 4:30, Daddy and I went for a nice walk around two blocks. “30He must increase, but I must decrease. 31He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all. 32And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony. 33He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true. 34For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. 35The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. 36He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” John 3:30-36 April 12. The Lord gave us rain this morning and sunshine later in the afternoon. We are thankful for both. Put a load of laundry in to wash first thing this morning so it would be done before we left for Charlotte. Had to dry things in the dryer today because of the weather. Started writing our monthly update before going out, and finished that late this afternoon. At 9:30, Daddy, Connie, and I left for Charlotte. Since Connie’s chiropractor appointment wasn’t until 11:30, we did our shopping at Trader Joe’s first. I was happy to get that done ahead of time. After Connie’s adjustment, we got a few things at the Neighborhood WalMart around the corner and then sat in the car to eat our lunch before heading home. I was disappointed that my salad was spoiled. I usually get a nice salad at TJ’s; but the one I got today was not nice, and I had to throw it away. So for lunch, I finished up my almonds and had some crackers and dried apricots. Arrived home around 2:00; but by the time we got the food put away, we had less than a half hour to rest before heading off for my chiropractor appointment with Dr. Prime. He adjusted my lower spine but also used a massager and traction on my back this time for which I was very grateful. Last time, I felt worse by evening, and that’s when I took the Ibuprofen and started getting the stomach pains that I’ve had this past week. (Mom did much better after the adjustment this time) “24But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, 25And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.” John 2:24,25 The omnipotent God! April 11. For breakfast this morning, I enjoyed a fruit salad with cantaloupe, blackberries, grapes, strawberries, and bananas, with yogurt on top. Daddy went out around 8:15 this morning. It took about 45 minutes for Honda to fix the electronic control for the passenger air bag. Then he picked up a few groceries at WalMart and Aldi, and a better seat belt adjuster at Auto Zone. After breakfast and quiet time, I busied myself with several computer projects - making up and printing a schedule for the month of April; printing out a general daily schedule and a projects list that I already had completed in the computer; making up and printing out a travel checklist; and hanging all those up on the bulletin board, along with my chiropractic adjustment schedule. Later I printed out 40 copies of “Lav, Mesi, Marimari” which Connie is collating for us. Revised the shopping list and printed out our shopping list for tomorrow. Today was printing day, I guess. This afternoon, I emptied another box in the dining room; and, around 4:00, Daddy and I went for a refreshing walk, a bit long this time. Bro. Gleiser’s message this evening was from Philippians and dealt with joyfulness. I was having a lot of back pain this evening and finally had to go out and walk the hall for a while. It was good to see some good friends and one of our prayer warriors this evening. April 10. A very cold morning - 29º when we got up. The sun soon warmed things up however, and it did get into the 50’s. Daddy and I left at 8:30 this morning for church. Pastor had asked us to be there at 9:00 for prayer time together before our revival meetings started. After prayer, there was choir practice for those who are in the choir. At 10:00, our visiting evangelist, Bro. Morris Gleiser, spoke to the Sunday school. His text was Isaiah chapter 1, showing the spiritual decline in the health of God’s people and the remedy for healing. One visitor and her children were already there at the prayer time and stayed through most of the morning. She had to leave early, but said she really enjoyed the meetings and wants to come back. It was good to see our missionary Bro. Starin there today. He hadn’t planned to be there, but unexpected circumstances allowed him to be with us. Sunday school was shorter today, as visitors had been invited for donut fellowship at 10:35. Regular meeting started at 11:00 as usual. We praise the Lord for those visitors who came and trust they will be back. The Gospel message was presented clearly and simply from Luke 12, the parable of the rich fool. One person raised a hand during the invitation, but no one came forward. We have been praying earnestly for one man in particular who has heard the Gospel many times, and we trust he will respond before the week is over. Of course, we have been praying for many others too. It was about 12:30 when we headed home. Had our lunch and then a welcome nap. I had a bad headache and must have been pretty tired as I slept over an hour and a half. This evening, they said there were about 45 visitors this morning. Praise the Lord for each one who came. Not many visitors this evening, and the message was preached mainly for God’s people. From Psalm 139, he talked about God’s omniscience, omnipresence, and omnipotence; but most of his time was spent in verses 23 and 24, David’s asking the Lord to reveal his heart and thoughts and show him any areas where he might be defiled, distraught, or distracted. At the end, Bro. Gleiser gave us time in our seats to pray and ask the Lord to search our hearts. Then as each individual finished talking with the Lord, he was to stand up. After that Bro. Starin shared a few words and closed in prayer. “He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.“ John 1:27 April 8. Didn’t sleep well last night as I had bad pains in my stomach. Consequently, I slept in until almost 7:00 this morning. It was a very chilly, windy day. Daddy went off to pay the Verizon bill, check with the Honda dealer about the notice we got concerning a safety hazard with our model of Honda, and pick up a couple food items. He has to go back early Monday morning to have an electronic control replaced for the air bag on the passenger side. Spent the rest of my computer time today working on the translation file, trying to get Matthew all set up in a good form before we start on Mark. “ The same was in the beginning with God.” John 1:2 The same one who was in the beginning with God is God. He is the same Jesus who made the world. He is the same Jesus who brought life and light into the world. He is always the same. He has never changed, and He never will. We can trust Him to always be the same. April 9. Quite cold this morning, and the winds sent a chill through the air; but the sunshine was warm and refreshing. Today was a work day around the house. Only did a couple small projects on the computer. Put ingredients in the crockpot this morning for lentil-vegetable soup for our supper. Got chicken out to thaw and cooked it this evening. Sewed up a slip that was torn. Folded and put away clothes. Helped Christy hang out some of her clothes. Cleaned all the boxes, bags, etc. off the kitchen floor, and Daddy swept and washed the floor. I dried the floor and put away several boxes full of kitchen and dining room things. Daddy and Christy went out around 8:30 this morning to the prayer breakfast at church. Christy went to get gas and do a little shopping afterward. Daddy went with several other men to leave literature about the revival meetings at homes in KM. He didn’t get home until around 11:30. “6There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.” John 1:6-9 We too have been sent to bear witness of the true Light, Jesus Christ. We are to be lights in this world, bearing witness of the Light through Whom all men might believe and be saved. April 7. We were late getting to bed last night and, consequently, didn’t wake up until after six this morning. I was thankful that we didn’t have to go anywhere today. Got the March progress report written this morning, and Daddy and I checked the last chapter of Matthew. Praise the Lord for helping us to get Matthew done! This afternoon, I got the rest of the corrections made; and this evening, I started setting up a new file, hopefully to hold the entire New Testament. Daddy helped me put a bulletin board up over my desk today so I can hang up schedules, project lists, etc. there. He also put a hanging shelf on the wall in the living room (see picture). Late this afternoon, Daddy and I took a walk around the block - about a half mile walk, we figure. “46And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48And ye are witnesses of these things.” Luke 24:46-48 April 4. The Lord gave us a pretty, sunny day today. We enjoyed getting out for a little while and mowing a bit of the lawn. Daddy and I talked about a work schedule this morning, and I also started setting up for myself a daily, weekly, and monthly schedule in the computer. Made a shopping list too so we can do shopping tomorrow. We decided to make Tuesday our shopping day. Then we checked over Matthew chapter 26. Also did a few little jobs around the house. Daddy put up the coat rack in the kitchen [by the back door]. Amazingly each screw hole found its way over a stud. I sanded down the extra shelf Daddy had made for one of the upper kitchen cupboards. Now it needs to be painted. This afternoon, we checked the first half of Matthew 27. Just one and a half chapters to go now. Praise the Lord for His help! Bro. Clarke came this afternoon with notes on the Gospel of Mark which we will check over next. He also answered some questions for us on some material we struggled with today. Oh, Lord, please show us how to reach these people [in our neighborhood] with the Gospel. “61And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. 62And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.” Luke 22:61,62 April 5. Started laundry before breakfast this morning; and by the time I had had breakfast and quiet time, things were ready to hang outside. The air was cool, windy, and nippy early this morning so we bundled up a bit warmer. It didn’t take long to hang them up though because there were mostly big things - sheets and towels. At 9:00, Daddy and I went out to go to the bank and do shopping. Next to the bank is a chiropractor’s office so after doing the banking, we stopped in there to see if we could get some information about the program and perhaps get some literature. Well, we got plenty of information about the program. Dr. Kevin Prime took us into his office and spent some time talking with us about his program. Then he asked if we’d like to fill out papers which we did and which took a long time -- so many papers! He helped us fill out some of them to cut down on the time. After that he did some general checkup - blood pressure, reflexes, etc. Then he took xrays after which he talked with us a little more and showed us the xrays. It wasn’t hard to see that my neck and spine was in really bad shape. Also the space between the two lowest vertebrae [in my back] was nearly completely closed up, most likely the reason for the pain, weakness, and poor blood circulation in my legs. There was also some spinal rotation which could contribute to that. We were in Dr. Kevin’s office about two hours all together. It was 11:00 or so when we left there to do our shopping. Stopped at Walgreens first to get a few items; then Aldi; and last of all WalMart. We were thankful that there wasn’t much on the list so the shopping didn’t take too long. Back home around 12:30. Put away food and had lunch and nap. After nap I got in the clothes. Then we made another trip over to the trailer to do more cleaning. I will be so glad when that job is done -- hopefully very soon. It was going on 6:00 when we got home. Fixed turkey burgers for our supper, and we had leftover salad. After supper, I fixed up the two portraits of the PNG kids and put those in frames. Then it was time to do dishes. (See picture above post -- two of Mom's watercolor paintings) “The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee.” Psalm 102:28 April 6. Off to the chiropractor again this morning. Dr. Kevin went over his findings with us and then did some adjusting on my neck and lower back. Also gave me a schedule and some requirements for working on exercise, walking, posture, etc. After we paid, we gave him an invitation to the revival meetings at EBC. He was happy to receive it and put it at the check-out counter where he could see it, saying that he would try to come. After we came home, we finished checking chapter 27 of Matthew. Just one more chapter to go. Praise the Lord! While we were working, Connie finished mowing the lawn. After we were done, I tried painting the new shelf with some white glossy spray paint we had brought over from the trailer yesterday. There were three cans, but none of them would work properly. Then we saw that they had expired long ago - one in 2011, one in 2012, and one in 2013. So after lunch, I painted the shelf with some white acrylic paint that belonged to Connie. After nap, I worked on the quarterly income report. I am so far behind on computer work! Am glad we don’t have any plans to be going anywhere the next couple days. Also put another coat of paint on the shelf and later brought it in and put it in its place. We’ll give it until tomorrow to dry thoroughly before we place anything on it. Around 4:15, I started putting a fish casserole together for supper. April 1. Another cloudy day, but not much rain. First order of business this morning was laundry. I did so want to hang it outside, but everyone expected it to rain. Hung up shirts, blouses, dresses, and trousers inside, and put everything else in the dryer. Checked chapter 25 of Matthew this morning. Only three more chapters to go in Matthew. Praise the Lord for His help thus far. Did a little more cleaning and organizing until dinner time. After nap this afternoon, we two and Christy went over to the trailer again and packed a few more boxes. Didn’t get as much done today. Connie stayed here since she was preparing food for herself to take to the ladies’ banquet tomorrow. April 2. A lovely sunny day with a chilly breeze blowing late this afternoon. Finished proofreading “Lav, Mesi, Marimari” this morning and got the corrections made in the computer. Then Daddy and I went out shopping for just a few groceries at WalMart and Aldi. Then we went to Marion Street Dollar Tree and found some picture frames and a couple other little things. A quick stop at the Food Outlet for some stew beef before coming home with the groceries and putting them away. Then off to Subway for lunch. Not long after we went out, C&C left to pick of Cindie and Kathy M for the ladies’ banquet. When we got up from afternoon nap, they still weren’t home. They didn’t get home until around 4:00. I swept the front porch and put the welcome mat out that we got today. Also swept the back porch and put a smaller mat there for wiping feet, as well as one at the laundry room door. Then Daddy put up more curtain rods for me to put valances up in the living room and the other curtain up in the bedroom. Now I need to make a tie back for that bedroom curtain. I sprayed my two water paintings with clear acrylic matte coating and set them aside to dry. Later I’ll frame them and hang them in the living room. Then I put all the "grandchildren’s" (school students') pictures in the 4x6 frames and marked places above the piano for hanging them. Daddy drilled holes and put in screws, and now all their pictures are hanging above the piano in the living room. “2And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites. 3And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all: 4For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.” Luke 21:2-4 April 3. Cooler this morning with chilly winds, but a nice day. Even before eating breakfast this morning, I was busy preparing veggies and meat for beef stew in the crock pot. We really enjoyed that beef stew this afternoon before and after church. I was thankful for a day to meet together with God’s people. Mrs. Surrett finished the set of lessons on shaping up your home. The classroom was full today as Regina had a number of her family members there. Mrs. Surrett also shared the frustrations she and Pastor Surrett faced with his recent health situation and how the Lord answered prayer and helped them through the stormy sea. Pastor Ogle’s message on the seriousness of sin was much needed and gave us much to think about and apply to our lives. This evening was different as he visited a number of Scriptures dealing with hindrances to answered prayer and had us consider each one and pray for God to reveal needs in our hearts regarding each. At the end of the meeting, Kim S shared her testimony of how God answered the prayers of many people, brought her through a very dark valley, and brought her salvation. How we rejoice in what God has done for that dear sister! After the meeting, Pastor Ogle met with those who want to be greeters during the revival or go out for the Gospel Blitz this coming Saturday. Brother Bishop had asked Daddy to go with him and Carlos and one other person, I forget whom. After nap, I worked on some blog ideas for Connie to work with. Used the time going back and forth to church today to do some crocheting, working on the tie back for our other bedroom curtain. “Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.” Luke 22:28 |
