October 23. Took a couple hours or so again to get to sleep last night. In the low 40’s this morning. Brrr! Didn’t take long to warm up, however, and is up to 70 this afternoon, sunny, and not too windy today. Mrs. Surrett finished lessons from the book of Esther this morning. Pastor Ogle preached a good message from I Corinthians 11. His title was “Remembering Him” and the theme, "We must never forget what He did for us, what He will do for us, and how that should impact our daily lives." A thought he brought out that hadn’t struck me before is that as we remember Christ’s death, that is a means of “showing” or proclaiming, preaching His death until He comes. Therefore we not only think of Christ’s death, but we think of it in the light of His return. This afternoon, I worked on some beading. Then I called Daddy to ask what he might like me to get at the store tomorrow. Later, I worked on some crocheting.

October 22. I lay awake for a long time last night - over two hours - before finally falling asleep. A very chilly morning - in the 40’s. We had planned to go to the fly-in today at the Shelby airport, but the winds were very strong and cold. We figured they wouldn’t be doing much flying. So we decided to go shopping instead. While Christy was doing her and Connie’s laundry, I got the last two motifs made for row 4 of the tablecloth, did some cleaning jobs, and got a couple things ready to take in the car. Around 11:00, we left here for Crossroads thrift store. Since they are moving, they were having a 50% off sale. Found quite a few yarn remnants and a nice picture frame that I can use for a craft project. We wandered around there for quite a while just looking and saw that it was already going on 12:30 when we were leaving. We decided to come back to the house for lunch before going to Hobby Lobby. At Hobby Lobby, I bought yarn, plastic canvas, earring wires, and beads. It was late when we got home, and I was tired. I was sleeping when Daddy called, but he called back again this evening after he got home from church. They had their missions banquet this evening. “3For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” Romans 10:3,4 Just so, people today are ignorant of Christ’s righteousness and are going about to establish their own righteousness. They do not realize that righteousness comes by faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. October 21. About mid-60’s when I went out this morning to look at the thermometer, and the air felt pleasantly warm. I walked around the yard a couple times, and then heard Jean holler “hello” from next door. So I walked over there and sat down with her and chatted a while. She has started on a kind of sea salt water that she is finding very helpful for her health. She doesn’t have to use her oxygen any more except at night, and she is able to walk around without her walker, unless she goes out for a walk somewhere. I asked Jean about the cat, and she said it used to belong to the lady next door to her, but that lady didn’t want it anymore. She said it is too mean (it plays rough with the kids). So Jean feeds it, and it goes in and out of Jean’s house. We had been wondering if that cat belonged to anyone. It actually is very friendly and playful, but keeps trying to get into our house. (The cat’s name is Tommy) About mid-morning, the cold front came through; and even though the temperature was a couple degrees higher than earlier, the cold north wind made the air feel icy. Today I finished transferring the rest of Matthew to the new translation print file and started on Mark. Also finished proofreading discipleship booklet #2 and added a little more to book #1. Now I need to print out copies to do a more thorough job of proofreading. I was happy that Daddy called and talked for a while this afternoon. It is always good to hear his voice. “Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.” Romans 10:1 I too pray that Israel might be saved, and also our neighbors. October 19. Woke up around 5:40 this morning. Didn’t go back to sleep so shortly I got up and washed my hair. This morning, I crocheted one more motif for the tablecloth, also completed a couple ladies’ lessons. It’s another beautiful day. Praise God for His goodness, His great faithfulness, and His mercies and compassions which are new every morning! This afternoon, I wrote a short note, made a pot of soup, and did the dishes since we won’t be here for me to do them in the evening. Pastor Ogle’s text this evening was Exodus chapter 2, the title of his teaching being “Doing It My Way” and the theme, Doing God’s work in your own strength leads to disaster. Enjoyed chatting with Kathy Mc before the meeting and Mr. W afterward. October 20. Woke up early this a.m., around 3:45. Finally drifted off to sleep around 5:45, only to be awakened at 6:00 when I heard Christy get things out of the drawer in the office. So was pretty tired the rest of the day. Was going to wait and do laundry tomorrow, but when I heard that rain is predicted and high only 66º, I decided to do laundry today. It was another 80’s day and it felt good to get out. Finished another motif today for the tablecloth. Talked with Daddy. Wrote a thank you note. Worked on the translation file. Had a fairly long nap. Afterward I brought clothes in. Enjoyed a nice chat with my sister on the phone. Called and ordered supplements needed for my current diet. Worked on lessons from the book of John. October 17. The day is quickly coming to an end. It has been a lovely, warm, early fall day. And it has been a busy day. I didn’t accomplish all that I had hoped to accomplish, but am thankful for what I was able to get done. First I wrote an e-mail requesting an address and then got an anniversary card ready to go in the mail. After that I got this past week’s journal notes ready to go off to Connie. Then got the income report up-to-date, except for the bank statement. And next I translated into English my Pidgin notes on how to study the Bible so Connie can use them. This afternoon, I finished crocheting one more motif for the tablecloth. Then searched for prices for the supplements I need in order to get started on the health program I am working on. Then I wrote an e-mail to Daddy. He had already written to me as follows. "To my lovely wife, "Greetings from sunny warm, PA. It was raining when I got up, but the sun came out after a while. Had good meetings yesterday. Showed DVD and answered questions in S.S. at Kittanning. Lots of questions. In A.M. service I spoke on the mission miracle. Pastor really challenged by that. He wants to see missionaries sent out from there. Had luncheon there at church. Afterwards Pastor gave a short devotion and then I answered more question. Small church with only 41 members. Pastor works part time. Arrived at Park Avenue early. After a bit the Amatis came. So he helped me set up, and then we talked a bit. Showed the DVD and then Pastor had me answer some questions. Lots of questions. Then I spoke on what a tribal missionary does. The people were real interested in that. They didn’t realize what was involved in tribal missions. The Lord seems to be blessing the church. One man there, Gene M, used to be a member there, but goes to a church closer to where he lives. That church doesn’t have a Sunday evening service, so he comes to Park Ave. where his grandchildren go. He bought some gas for me, took me out to eat, and bought me a few supplies for while I am here. Very nice man. He is partially disabled. Pastor Leonard just called and invited me for supper tonight. He had said something about taking me out to breakfast tomorrow, but don’t know if that is still in the plans. Amatis want me to come for supper too, I assume tomorrow. I am staying in the church’s mission home which is about 14 miles from church. It is a very old duplex house which was given to the church. Quite sufficient though." Ellen came a little after 3:30 to pick up Christy and take her to Forest City to purchase her “new” car from its now former owner and make all the transfers at the license plate office. She made a stop at WalMart there to get water before coming home and got back here around 6:00. The Lord has provided her with a very nice vehicle, and we pray that it will give her good service for a long time to come. This evening I wrote a couple more e-mails, and now it is time to call it quits for the evening. “32He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? 33Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. 34Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” Romans 8:32-34 Such a wonderful manifestation of God’s love! First of all, because He is for us, no one can be against us (v. 31). Secondly, praise God for not sparing His own Son. He delivered him up for us ALL so that He could freely give us ALL things. What are we lacking? Thirdly, no one can lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect - they can’t accuse us or incriminate us because God has justified us. And fourthly, No one can condemn us because Christ has died for us, has risen again, and is at God’s right hand praying for us. Wow! What a great salvation! October 18. The Lord gave us a lovely, warm day again today -- back up to the lower 80’s. It was nice to get outside for a while. Connie and I did do a little work around the yard, but it wasn’t for very long. Today I got the third quarter income report completed and printed out a copy to put in Bro. C’s mailbox tomorrow night and proofread a good portion of the second volume discipleship book. Daddy called this evening. It was good to hear his voice again. He seemed excited about how things are going so far with the meetings. Tomorrow he heads up to Buffalo area. Wish I could be with him. “35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.“ Romans 8:35-39 Wow! What precious promises! No one nor nothing can ever separate us form the love of Christ. No matter what happens, no matter who may try to fight against us, in ALL things we are MORE than conquerors (we vanquish beyond, we win a decisive victory, i.e. a conclusive victory, putting an end to controversy). I am persuaded (convinced, certain) that there is not one thing or one creature that can separate us from the love of God or the love of Christ. Amen! October 16. The Lord gave us a nice day and a good day of fellowship with His people. Mrs. Surrett covered chapter nine of Esther in Sunday School. A lot of good principles to think about from that chapter. Pastor Ogle preached on James 4:13-17, entitled “A Plan for My Life.” His theme was, We must live our life according to God’s plan, not our own. After the meeting this evening, Pastor Ogle held a session to teach all those who had any teaching responsibilities in the church. Christy had to stay for that. “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31 This truth was certainly brought out in the book of Esther. God was certainly for His people who trusted in Him and brought them great victory in spite of the enemy’s efforts to destroy them. October 14. It was a cool day. In the upper 50’s when we got up, but don’t think it even got up to 70º today. Daddy left around 8:00 this morning for his trip to New York. I worked a little bit on the crocheted tablecloth; printed envelopes for the update letters I had printed the other day; started revising my testimony tract, prepared and sent update e-mails, did dishes (in the morning) so Christy wouldn’t have so many this evening, and made vegetable soup. Daddy called this evening to let us know he had arrived safely at the prophet’s chamber where he is staying for the night in West Virginia. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 Praise God, we can KNOW even when we cannot SEE. October 15. It was another very cool and cloudy day. I don’t think it got up to 74º as was predicted. Didn’t do much at the computer today. Did some crocheting, and finished a row on the heirloom tablecloth. Finished writing, proofreading, and correcting my testimony tract. Printed out a couple copies so I’ll have at least one ready to give to Ginger. Plan to print out more later to give to other people. Did some reading of “Healing Digestive Illness.” There is a lot to mull over in the book. Sat out on the porch a while this afternoon and read, but no one came by. Charles had come this morning and wanted C&C to sit out and talk, but they were doing other jobs. Charles said he would come back this afternoon, but he didn’t show up. October 11. Another very chilly morning. Turned on heat in bedroom and office this morning. The Lord sent us nice sunshine again later, however. Daddy went out to WalMart this morning to get the oil changed before his trip. I worked on the translation file and on the lessons from the book of John today. Boxed up the fair crafts and gave them to Connie to put away with her sale items. Cut Daddy’s hair this afternoon. Made some frozen banana strawberry pops. This evening, Daddy & Christy went out to Bostic to look at a vehicle that Christy is interested in buying. October 12. Decided to do laundry this morning since there will be lots of other things to do tomorrow - chiropractor appointment, shopping, packing for Daddy, other errands. Then I looked for pictures from Image Revolution on Christy’s computer and transferred them to a flash drive to use in the discipleship booklet. Got those set up in the discipleship book so now I can proofread. Also got the monthly update written, a copy printed out and proofread, and copies printed for mailing. Now the e-mail copies need to be done - maybe tomorrow. Pastor Ogle covered Exodus chapter one this evening in his preaching, showing how greatly the Lord blessed Israel and multiplied them and made them strong through hardships. The more they were afflicted and oppressed, the more they multiplied and the stronger they became. “17And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 18For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8:17,18 Those who walk after the Spirit are children of God and heirs of God. They can expect to suffer with Christ, but will also be glorified with Christ. The sufferings are only temporary, and are not even deserving of or worthy of comparison with the eternal glory which will be revealed in us. October 13. 49º this morning but warmed up so nicely before midday. Daddy and I were off to town around 9:15 this morning - first to the bank, then Dr. Prime’s office. After that, we headed for Ingles in KM. Found a couple things there we wanted but not all that we were hoping to get. Next stop was K-Mart in Shelby. There we found an alarm clock with light-up numbers - clock number four. :-) We had already taken three clocks back to WalMart - three strikes and you’re out. So decided to try K-Mart this time. Aldi next for a few veggies. Then Crossroads. Didn’t find what we were looking for, but I found a ball of yarn for 50 cents, and Daddy found an alarm clock with LARGE light-up numbers. Only $2. If it works, will number four clock go back to the store? (It has been working since we brought it home.) (And it is still working. :-)) On the way to the checkout, my eye spied a flannel nightgown. Just what I needed. Grabbed that and took it up to the counter to pay for it. One more stop - Ginger’s Salvage. Bought a few little items and gave Ginger the crocheted necklace set I had entered into the fair. She was so excited to get it. It made me happy to give it to her. Finally got home around 1:30. Put stuff away. Had lunch. Going on 2:30 when we went down for nap. This afternoon, I made the bed (it didn’t get done this morning) and cleaned up the bedroom a bit; then did the dishes. Daddy did his packing, ready to head off on his trip tomorrow. After Christy got home from work, she and Daddy went down to Blacksburg to check on a car, but it was too small for what Christy wanted. This evening, she made an offer on the Crown Victoria they looked at the other evening. The owner is willing to accept the offer. So that’s about it for the day. Didn’t get any computer work done today other than to proofread a document that Connie wanted me to look over. “And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.” Romans 8:23 Our souls have already been redeemed. We don’t have to wait for that. We only wait now for the redemption of our body. These bilums, or string bags, were lovingly made by people in Owena and given to my mom at the school graduation after she had taught the young people the last year of school. October 10. Down to 48º this morning, but it was a sunny day; and even though it was barely above 60º when we went for a walk this morning, we didn’t feel too cold. The winds were calm too, which helped make it feel warmer.
I was thankful to be feeling better today. Got journal notes ready and sent them off to Connie. Spent some time this morning on the translation print file, and worked on the ladies’ lessons both morning and afternoon. When Christy got home from work, we three ladies went off to the fairgrounds to pick up the craft items we had entered and also our prize money. I am thankful to have a few extra dollars to use for something special. When we got back, I got ready to go out this evening with Daddy to a meeting at Oak Grove Baptist Church. The meeting was sponsored by the WMU, but there were a few men there as well. It was good to see Carolyn and meet many others. Daddy showed our slide presentation and there was a question/answer session as well. People were really sweet and friendly. The pastor’s wife, Shannon, was so helpful and caring. Her young daughter, Ava, was very interested in the bilum so I gave her the one we had on the display. She was really excited to get it. October 9. I went right to sleep last night, only to wake up after a half hour or so. Feeling hot, I asked Daddy to open the window; but sleep wouldn’t come after that. A bad headache and slight nausea kept me from getting comfortable. Slept in until well after 7:00 this morning. Did not go out today. (Mom ended up having a 24 hour bug) Crocheted a finished panel onto an afghan. Did some reading. Listened to music. Had quite a long nap this afternoon. Thankful to be feeling somewhat better this evening. Was able to get the dishes done, sew a lining into a crocheted purse I just finished and put a button on it, look through some other craft projects that I might want to do…. “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.” Romans 7:18 In ourselves, that is in our flesh, we cannot do anything good, because there is nothing good in us. |
