June 24. Up early for shower and to get ready to go to C&C’s house. Daddy vacuumed the floor while I took a shower. As soon as I had had quiet time and breakfast, we headed out. In the early service, Pastor continued his teaching on the Spirit-filled family, starting from Ephesians 6:1-4 and branching out to a couple other passages. His title was “Spirit-controlled Parenting”. The Lord is to be the center of the parent-child relationship and the teaching and training of the children. Deuteronomy 6:2 and Psalm 78:4-8 indicate to us that grandparents and even great-grandparents have a role in teaching children. You must realize that the next generation will set their hope in God only as we point the way for them. Your past has an influence on your family. You bring baggage into your home. Many times in your new home, you may have an over-reaction because of the influence of your past home. Preaching in the latter service was from I Peter 4:10,11, dealing with spiritual gifts. Every Christian has some gift that is used within the local church. Many have more than one gift. Areas of gifts may be developed. Two categories—speaking; serving. Cf Romans 12:6-16, I Corinthians 12:4-12. Sign gifts which authenticated the New Testament church have ceased. Ultimately, the glory for the use of gifts goes to God. All those gifts are given by the Spirit. The gifts are different and are to be used differently—not everyone will be as passionate as we are about the particular gift God has given us. You must use the gift God has given you to bring Him glory and to serve others. I Peter 4:10--Every man has received the gift (grace) - no merit of his own—given by the Holy Spirit. The gift was given to us so we could serve others. We are therefore to be good stewards of that gift. A steward is someone who manages something with which he has been entrusted. Verse 11—In all things, the gifts are to be used to glorify the Saviour. I was very thankful for a nice, long nap this afternoon. Was also glad to be able to get a chance to paint once again. I think the painting is getting closer to completion now. Have had a little difficult time learning how to paint snow. It just hasn’t been coming out as I would like it to. “Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.” I Samuel 7:12 These words were spoken by Samuel after the people turned back to the LORD and the LORD fought for them against the Philistines. As we turn to the LORD for help against our enemy, we also can say “Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.”

June 22. Today we didn’t go over to the girls’ house. Later in the morning, we checked over Acts 26 together, and then we both had a nap. We had been awake for a while during the night and were very sleepy. After nap, I made corrections in the Aposel (Acts) file for chapter 26 and added that Pidgin to the print file. Then got English 27 set up in the print file. We continue to thank the Lord for His help in this awesome and holy task. Then I had lunch. After lunch, I crocheted a little while. Then I started working on a lesson in John for Mike. “18For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory. 19And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of them unto the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, to the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles.” (Isaiah 66:18,19) If we don’t take the gospel to those who’ve never heard, the LORD will see to it that missionaries are sent to them. But will the blood of those who already passed into eternity be required at our hands? June 23. We were on the go this morning from the time we got up until about 10:00. Shower and dress first. Break up a multi-grain tortilla and spread it out on the deck railing after Mrs. cardinal came and sang for her breakfast. Fix eggs to go with Daddy’s pancakes. Sit down for some quiet time. Put a load of sheets and towels in the wash. Fix a small dish of veggies and meat for the first part of my breakfast. Sit down and eat and enjoy more quiet time. Take bedding out of dryer, fold, and put away in closet. In the mean time, Daddy started vacuuming the carpets. Put the sheets and towels into the dryer, and put a load of clothes into the washing machine. Fix a bowl of oatmeal for the rest of my breakfast. Sit down for a few more minutes of quiet time. Make up bed with clean sheets and pillow cases (with Daddy’s help). Crochet for a few minutes. Take clothes out of washing machine. Hang up shirts, blouses, and a couple other things, and put the rest of the clothes in the dryer. Start getting things ready to go to the girls’ house. Get clothes out of dryer. Finish getting things ready to go. Head over to the house with a stop at Rite-Aid to look for soap. Too expensive. Arrive at girls’ house somewhere around 10:30. Collapse. Girls went off to market and to do a little shopping. Daddy relaxed at the computer, and I relaxed the rest of the morning doing crocheting. Worked more on the crochet project this afternoon after nap. This evening I did the dishes, and then we all listened to this past Sunday’s early morning sermon. We left early and took the long way home as Daddy wanted to stop at Aldi and get some mayonnaise. The Lord gave us a beautiful sunset this evening. I jumped out of the van as soon as we got home and got my cameras out of my bilum (string bag) in the back so I could take some pictures.
June 20. It was already very humid when we got up this morning so Daddy turned the a/c on early. He left at 7:30 this morning to pick up Connie and take her to Lab Corp to have blood work done. While he was gone, I washed the dishes, made my bed, looked for yarn for my next project, and started gathering things together to take over to the girls’ hosue. Daddy got back a little after 9:00, and we headed for the girls’ house some time after 9:30. We are thankful for the Lord’s help in checking Acts 24 this morning, after which I got corrections made, set up chapter 24 in the print file, and got English set up for 25. Before lunch, I deleted a few e-mails and answered one. Daddy and I both took a fairly long nap. Christy was already home when we got up, and had gotten home shortly after we lay down. She had her nap on Connie’s bed. This afternoon, I made the shopping list and worked on organizing the leadership lessons for meeting with pastors and deacons and their wives. In his Wednesday evening preaching, Pastor continued in the book of Esther—Making an Appeal. Many others in the Bible made appeals, e.g. Moses, Nehemiah, Daniel, Paul, etc. Each of these made appeals to heathen kings and their lives were at stake. Attitudes and actions will impact appeal. 1) An appeal is most effective when it is based on a Biblical principle, mandate, or precedent. 2) An appeal is most effective when preceded by a time of prayer. 3) An appeal is most effective when you are prepared. 4) An appeal is most effective when we’re willing to be patient. “16I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only. 17O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works. 18Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come. 19Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee!“ (Psalm 71:16-19) Even when we become old and grayheaded, our lives can and should still show forth God’s strength, power, righteousness, and wondrous works to everyone around us. June 21. First day of summer. Daddy put bread out on the deck railing this morning, as we often do for the birds. After a while a dove came along and, starting at one end of the railing, proceeded to make her way to the other end, tossing each piece of bread off onto the deck or ground as she went. She was so comical, and we wish we had had a camera in hand to catch a video of her antics. Somewhere around 8:15 or so this morning, we left here to do our shopping. We didn’t have much on the list with stops planned only for WM and Aldi so didn’t expect to be out long. We were soon done selecting our items at WM and ready to checkout. The person at checkout 5 was nearly done and was ready to pay so we put our items on the belt. She had a gift card of some kind, however, and several people spent who-knows-how-long trying to figure out how to scan it and make it work. So we waited and waited until she finally decided to just pay for her purchases with her credit card. In the mean time, I went off to the restroom, and when I got back, Daddy was done. However, he discovered that the sweet potatoes had been rung up wrong so we headed over to customer service to check on that. Had to wait a couple minutes for another customer, but then the lady there had trouble over-writing the wrong price and had to go back to the checkout to re-weigh and get the proper price. It was after 9:30 before we got out of there, and I felt like I had had a day of it already. Our shopping experience at Aldi was less stressful and didn’t take long. We decided we would stop at Mighty Dollar to see what they had for natural bath soap and a squeegee. We did get a squeegee, but there was no bath soap in bar form. Took a quick look at the craft aisle and purchased some green painter’s tape and dark rose yarn. After that, we headed home, arriving around 10:30. After I put food away, Daddy and I checked Acts 25. Then I prepared broccoli and cauliflower and put it on to cook to go with Daddy’s dinner—leftover rice and haddock. While that was cooking, I got corrections made in the Aposel (Acts) file, set it up in the print file, and added Acts 26, ready for its Pidgin partner to come beside it next time. This afternoon, I did some checking of Romans, then made a cheesecake, and then did some more checking of Romans. This evening, I did a little painting and a little crocheting. “1Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? 2For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.” Isaiah 66:1,2 The LORD is looking for men and women who are poor and of a contrite spirit, and who tremble at His word. Lord, may I be one of those women.
June 18. Didn’t wake up until 6:20 this morning. After getting washed and dressed, I started fixing my morning drinks and also cooked a couple sunny-side up eggs to go with Daddy’s breakfast pancakes. After my own breakfast and some quiet time, I didn’t go out walking this morning. It was soup-making day. Put lentils, bouillon, butter, and water in the crockpot. Got out the veggies—spinach, carrots, mushrooms, onion—and prepared those to add to the pot. Turned on the crockpot and added more water, some herbs, and tofu. Sat down to relax a few minutes and crocheted a flap on the purse. Had a bowl of fruit and yogurt. Then Daddy and I checked Acts 22 together. Made quite a few changes in that chapter. Praise the Lord for His direction! Took a little stretch break and then got corrections made in the computer for Acts 22, set it up in the print file, and added English chapter 23. Crocheted a picot edging on the purse and started the handle but couldn’t remember how long to make it. Sent a text to Connie. Had lunch. Finished crocheting the handle on the purse. Put a button on. Took a couple pictures. Nap time. After nap, soup was done so I set it aside to cool. In the mean time, I set up last week’s journal notes in a file to send to Connie. Then I caught up on today’s journal notes before pureeing the soup. After that, Daddy and I reorganized our belongings that we had stored in the back spare bedroom so that room is now ready for Daddy to sleep in tonight. Afterward, I straightened up the table where I’ve been painting and then transferred pictures to the computer and edited them. After supper, I got an e-mail ready with pictures and the journal notes to go to Connie. Then I acknowledged all our supporters who receive e-mail updates, and the updates are now in the outbox ready to be sent when we get to C&C’s house tomorrow. “2There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God. 3Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.” I Samuel 2:2,3 We can learn much about our God in these two verses. He is all together holy—none is as holy as the LORD. He is a God of strength—there is no rock like our God. He is a God of knowledge—He knows everything. He weighs our actions—we cannot hide anything from God. June 19. Only one load of laundry today as we didn’t wash Daddy’s bedding. He moved to another bed last night. After we got to C&C’s house and unloaded the car, Daddy went out to hang clothes, and I put away food in the fridge. Then I set up my compuiter, looked at the e-mails and was going to work on Sunday school lessons today. However, I didn’t have the Pidgin Jenesis/Exodus booklet with me and couldn’t find it on any of our flash drives. So I answered an e-mail and then Daddy and I checked Acts 23. Not too many hard places today, praise the Lord. By then it was 11:00 and I had to cook a meal today. Put a pot of rice on to cook first. Then got out the fish and put it in the casserole dish, seasoned it, and popped it into the oven. Veggies were leftover. While things were cooking, I made corrections in Acts 23 and got that ready to set up in the print file. After nap, I took care of setting up Pidgin 23 alongside the English and then got chapter 24 English ready for tomorrow. Spent some time working on the orientation notes for MTC (Missionary Training Course) and translating a few Old Testament verses to go with them. Made a cake for Daddy, a late Father’s Day cake. After supper, I crocheted a pink and white scrunchie for my hair and did the dishes, and Connie frosted the cake.. Then we ate cake and had family devotions before Daddy and I came back to the prophets’ chamber. “1Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence, 2As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence! 3When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.” Isaiah 64:1-3 I found these verses very interesting in my morning Bible reading as they brought to mind the Hawaiian volcano Kilauea. How God desires to make known His name to His adversaries and desires for the nations to tremble at His presence! And yet so many still believe that their god Pele is the force behind all that is happening. So sad!
June 17. Over to the girls’ house early this morning to be there in time for the first service. In the testimony time, Robbie gave a review of his time in NYC. Great preaching today on the spirit-controlled man, and a perfect message for Father’s Day. “To be a spirit-controlled man, you must love your wife as Christ loved the church.” 1) The command, Ephesians 5:25,28—Love your wife as Christ loved the church. Love unconditionally. Agape--seeking the highest good for the other person. It is a choice, a command, not a feeling, although it is not devoid of emotion. It is an act of the will. Five types of love to show to your wife: selfless love, not looking to meeting my own needs; serving love; sacrificing love; submitting love—submitting one to another in the fear of God; spiritual love—so your prayers be not hindered (Malachi 2:14-16)-- marriage is for our holiness before our happiness; sensual love—arousing or exciting the senses. 2) The comparison—as Christ loved the church and gave himself for it. (Romans 5:8) 3) A cleansing—to make it holy with the water of the word; it is part of the husband’s job to help the wife grow through the word of God. He should live and lead in such a way as to direct her to God’s word. 4) Cherishing—How do we care for our own bodies? The husband nourishes and provides for the wife. Dwell with them according to knowledge. 5) Cleaving, Genesis 2:20-25 In between meetings, I made a smoothie, took more time to pray, and did some crocheting. Finished crocheting a spiral afghan square before the others got home from church. Preaching in the second meeting was from I Peter 4:9 on Hospitality. Pastor’s main point was “You must be willing to make sacrifices and take risks to minister to people!” Sub-points: How willing are you to inconvenience yourselves for others? When you sacrifice for others, do you see that as ministering to Jesus? What is your attitude toward sacrificing in order to show hospitality? Before we came back to the house, Christy and Connie gave their Dad a card with a coupon for a free gift to come later. Daddy and I both must have been pretty tired as we took long naps. After nap I cooked cabbage and prunes. Had a bite to eat. Then we went over to Morning Star for the evening service. This evening, I crocheted another spiral piece and stitched three sides of the two pieces together before bed. This will make a little purse. June 15. When I got up this morning, Daddy was already up getting ready to work on my toilet. The chain keeps coming off and prevents it from flushing. He’s tried all kinds of ways to make the chain tight so it will stay, but it doesn’t. Only had one load of laundry this morning. As soon as that was done, we headed out as we had to make a stop at WalMart first to pick up some pallets for C&C to use for their garden. Christy was given some berry plants by her secret sister, and she and Connie are trying to make a raised garden to plant them. The ground is too hard to dig right now. This afternoon, C&C went and got a couple more pallets somewhere else, and then went to WalMart to load up on soil, mulch, etc. After we got to their house this morning, Daddy hung out the clothes, and I put away our lunch and supper foods in the fridge. After we got set up, looked at e-mails, and did a couple other little jobs, Daddy and I checked Acts 21. There were some difficult places today, so we are extra thankful for the Lord’s help. This afternoon, I spent a good amount of time looking through Pidgin Romans to check grammar and some word choices. Want to have that ready to print out when we finish Acts. “I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.” Psalm 69:30 June 16. A day at home. More time to read and pray and go over memory verses. Enjoyed the fresh air and exercise in the cool of the morning and the extra time to pray. After my walk, I cut up the papaya we bought the other day and enjoyed some of that with bananas and yogurt. Daddy tried another handyman idea for fixing my toilet, and I put the finishing touches on Connie’s decorative towel – embellishments on the right side this time. 😊 That project is finally finished now. (See picture) After that I looked over more of Pidgin Romans and then spent some time painting. Worked more on Romans and then fixed spaghetti and lima beans for Daddy’s dinner. After lunch and nap, I worked a little more on Romans. Then Daddy and I went out to White Oak Manor to see James. We were amazed at how well he seems to be doing. His mind seems to be much clearer than it was, and he communicated quite a bit more than before. He said he would like us to bring Ruth to see him and also to bring Christy and Connie some time. Daddy read Psalm 103 to him, and I sang a short medley of choruses before we left. We had hoped to go see Jean and Doug too, but I could not get any answer although I tried three times to call her. After leaving White Oak, we stopped by the girls’ house to pick up some Hot Shot (bug spray) to hopefully get rid of whatever the bugs are that seem to be enjoying Daddy’s bed. I also borrowed some brown paint to use for my painting. On the way home, we stopped at Hobby Lobby to see what was on discount (not much) and get some exercise walking around the store. By the time we got home, it was supper time. Then I finished up the chapter I had been working on in Romans so now have looked over four chapters—one quarter done. Praise the Lord! This evening, Daddy did the dishes, and I did more painting. Also started practicing spiral crochet. “I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.” Isaiah 61:10 One of my favorite verses. Such a beautiful picture of the salvation that God has provided for us!
June 13. Lots to do even before we left the prophets’ chamber this morning. Made a pot of tea. Cooked a pot of quinoa and another pot with green beans and corn. After the tea had steeped a few minutes, I put a little sugar, some ground ginger, and some cinnamon sticks into a bottle and poured in the tea. Pureed the quinoa and veggies all together and now have a good potful of breakfast food for the next few days. Found refreshment with a little fresh air and exercise and time to pray while walking before we gathered a few things together and loaded up the car to go to the girls' house. Started setting up a new file for a GMS (Glory Missionary School) course for missionary wives. Mid-morning, I made a smoothie to drink. Then Daddy and I started checking Acts 19. We labored over several verses and it was after 12:00 before we finally stopped after verse 27. Went out for a little stretch and some fresh air. Then had lunch and a long nap. I was very tired today for some reason. Praise the Lord for helping us finish checking chapter 19 this afternoon. Then I was able to get corrections made and set it up in the print file. Set up the English for chapter 20 as well. Daddy and the girls left before 5:30 for church and didn’t get home until almost 9:00. It was the last evening of VBS. I washed the few dishes that were at the sink. Then tried to find a sermon online, but things didn’t seem to be working. Finally got frustrated with the computer and did some praying and crocheting. Stitched the gold flowers onto the towel. Then I crocheted a butterfly and stitched it on the other edge. Was so excited that I had finished the towel, and then I noticed that I had stitched things on the wrong side. Sat down and took all the embellishments off and set them aside to be done right tomorrow, hopefully. “6Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? 7Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? 8Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.” Isaiah 58:6-8 If we are more concerned about serving those in need than we are about afflicting and exalting ourselves, then we will know God’s blessings. He has promised to give us light and health, guidance and protection. June 14. Left the house a few minutes after 8:00 this morning and were home a little before 11:00. Thankful for the Lord’s help and strength, and thankful now to be inside, out of the heat and humidity. Lots of stops today—Lidl, WalMart, Aldi, Office Depot, bank—so glad we didn’t have to spend much time in any of the stores. After getting food put away, I spent some time on notes for the work of missionary wives. This afternoon, we checked Acts 20, after which I got it set up in the print file, as well as the English for chapter 21. In the evening, I did a little painting. “….for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.” Ruth 3:11b How many women today could be known by everyone as a virtuous woman? June 11. Another full morning. The smell of skunk drove me out of bed at 6:15. Washed and dressed. Fixed a lemon drink. Prepared eggs to go with Daddy’s pancakes. Had quiet time and breakfast. More prayer time with a brief time of crocheting. Daddy went off to A+ with Christy’s car. (Their computers and a test drive didn’t reveal any serious problem.) I went out to get some fresh air and exercise and spent more time praying while walking. Came back in and started making this week’s soup—napa cabbage, celery, carrot, and lentil soup today, with some ground turkey. Got out a new roll of paper towels. Put strawberries in to soak. Fixed a snack of strawberries and yogurt. Ready to sit down. Daddy and I checked Acts chapter 18, and I got corrections made and then set it up in the print file. Also set up English chapter 19 in the print file, ready for Pidgin to come beside it. Crocheted for a few minutes after that and then had lunch. Crocheted a few more minutes before nap. After nap, I got journal notes into the file to send to Connie, transferred pictures to the computer and edited them, pureed the soup I had made and put on to cook this morning, got an e-mail ready with journal notes and pictures to send to Connie, and wrote the May ministry update. This evening, I painted and crocheted a while. A thunder storm came up, but it wasn’t too close to us. We did get some rain, and we had some power surges so thought the power was going to go out, but it didn’t. Christy and Connie did lose power for a short time. The book of Judges concludes thus, the exact sad words as found in chapter 17 verse 6, “In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” Judges 21:25 June 12. The rain God sent last night brought some nice cool weather along with it. Even at mid-afternoon, it was still only 65º out. It was going on 10:30 before we got to the girls’ house. There were two loads of wash to do first. Put some clothes in the dryer and hung up a few on hangers. Daddy remade his bed, as I had washed his sheets and pillow cases and then dried them. Then we loaded up the car and headed for WalMart to get a couple food items and some allergy filters. After that, we went on over to girls’ house, but weren’t there long before going out to Sandy’s. We had promised Connie we would take her to Sandy’s this week, and she was ready to go. So off we went. Spent quite a while looking around there but didn’t buy much. Bought a few knickknacks to finish filling up Christy’s little knickknack shelf and bought some yarn and buttons so I can help Connie make little purses for her sale stuff. It was already around 12:15 when we got home—time for lunch and nap. After nap, I got out the squash we bought this morning and put it in the oven to cook for my supper. Then I finished the update letters for those who receive updates by mail, added an acknowledgment on each one, and printed them out. Went to print out the envelopes for mailing them and discovered there were only six left. Guess they’ll have to wait until we buy more envelopes. As soon as I had eaten supper, I started cleaning up the kitchen so I could do the dishes. What a pile of dishes! Thankful to get those done. Ready for sit-down time now. After we got back to the prophets’ chamber this evening, I crocheted three gold flowers to attached to the towel I had crocheted. “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” Isaiah 57:15 May we consider that our God is high and lofty and holy, yet He will dwell with those who are of a contrite and humble spirit. June 10. Headed for C&C’s house around 8:15 this morning. VBS begins today (actually it began yesterday afternoon with a kickoff supper for the children, parents, and workers). Mr. & Mrs. Setzer are heading up the VBS with their creation program, Wilderness Wonders, to help the children understand the facts of creation vs. the theory of evolution. There will also be an adult session each evening beginning tonight. VBS will go through Wednesday evening. In between meetings, I did some crocheting and praying. In the 11:30 meeting, Pastor continued his teaching on I Peter, today looking at chapter 4 and verse 8, “And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.” “In a world that is growing more and more hostile to Christians, we must love each other fervently.” 1) The priority of love—”above all things.” Charity is greater than faith and hope. There is none other commandment greater than the commandments to love God and love our neighbor. How is your measure of love? 2) The possession of love—”have.” Wear it as a garment. Own it . Be in this condition, that is, love people. Lay hold of it, cling to it, grasp it. (This is where the live streaming went out and was off for five minutes or so. Thus I didn’t know what I had missed in the preaching. I can always get the notes from Daddy this afternoon, right? I could have except for the fact that Daddy put his Bible in the van, thinking he would be bringing the van home. Then Christy asked him if he would take her car to A+ tomorrow so we traded vehicles. Daddy realized after nap that his Bible wasn’t here. Texted Christy to see if she could bring it by before or after VBS this evening, hopefully before. However, Christy didn’t see the text in time to bring it before. So I’ll have to tuck the rest of the notes in here tomorrow.) The rest of the sermon (Christy dropped Daddy’s Bible off late yesterday evening on her way home from helping at VBS): 3) The passion of love—”fervent.” 4) The people to love—”among yourselves.” Sacrifice for others, serve others, show your love like a sign, broadcasting it to others. 5) The protection of love—”shall cover a multitude of sins.” How quick are you to pass over a matter? Lewis and the girls got back late for lunch since they went to South Carolina to get gas for Christy’s car. It was already 2:30 when we got back to the prophet’s chamber. I was a bit hungry since it had been over two and a half hours since I had had lunch so I had a little snack before nap. It was about 3:00 when I settled down and about 4:20 when I got up. Worked on painting a bit before and after supper. We went out together for some fresh air and exercise after the evening air cooled down. It was hard to pick out just one verse from my morning Bible reading. The whole chapter is so full of wonderful truth, particularly for giving a gospel invitation to the lost. “1Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 2Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. 3Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. 4Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people. 5Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee. 6Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 7Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: 11So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. 12For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. 13Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.” Isaiah 55
June 9. Thankful for a relaxing day. Didn’t have to cook this morning, except for a couple eggs to go with Daddy’s pancake breakfast. Had plenty of time for quiet time. Went out for a little walk early, before 8:00, while it was still cool outside. Took my prayer book with me so I could pray along the way. Saw a turtle in the neighbor’s yard and took a couple pictures. Spent a little time crocheting and a little time painting. My sweet husband did the dishes. We forgot to bring the other half of Daddy’s sub home from the girls’ house last night, so for dinner I fixed him carrots, mashed potatoes, and turkey gravy. Spent more time crocheting and painting this afternoon and early evening. Once the evening cooled off a little bit, Daddy and I went out for fresh air and a little exercise. We took clippers out and a plastic bag so we could cut down the vines that were growing up the wall next to the kitchen window. They were taking over more and more of the wall. Turned out we didn’t even need the clippers. I used a plastic bag over my hand (don’t have any gloves) and just pulled them out. The came out very easily. After we had done that, we walked around, and I took a few pictures of the clouds and a bumble bee. After we came back inside, I cut up turnips and put them on to cook for tomorrow. “1Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child…. 2Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; 3For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited. 4Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.” Isaiah 54:1-4 One of my greatest burdens is for more boldness in sharing the gospel. My prayer is that God will put thirsty hearts in my path to whom I can give the water of life. These verses came to me today as a promise that the Lord will give many spiritual children to those who are spiritually barren. |
