June 17. Over to the girls’ house early this morning to be there in time for the first service. In the testimony time, Robbie gave a review of his time in NYC. Great preaching today on the spirit-controlled man, and a perfect message for Father’s Day. “To be a spirit-controlled man, you must love your wife as Christ loved the church.” 1) The command, Ephesians 5:25,28—Love your wife as Christ loved the church. Love unconditionally. Agape--seeking the highest good for the other person. It is a choice, a command, not a feeling, although it is not devoid of emotion. It is an act of the will. Five types of love to show to your wife: selfless love, not looking to meeting my own needs; serving love; sacrificing love; submitting love—submitting one to another in the fear of God; spiritual love—so your prayers be not hindered (Malachi 2:14-16)-- marriage is for our holiness before our happiness; sensual love—arousing or exciting the senses. 2) The comparison—as Christ loved the church and gave himself for it. (Romans 5:8) 3) A cleansing—to make it holy with the water of the word; it is part of the husband’s job to help the wife grow through the word of God. He should live and lead in such a way as to direct her to God’s word. 4) Cherishing—How do we care for our own bodies? The husband nourishes and provides for the wife. Dwell with them according to knowledge. 5) Cleaving, Genesis 2:20-25 In between meetings, I made a smoothie, took more time to pray, and did some crocheting. Finished crocheting a spiral afghan square before the others got home from church. Preaching in the second meeting was from I Peter 4:9 on Hospitality. Pastor’s main point was “You must be willing to make sacrifices and take risks to minister to people!” Sub-points: How willing are you to inconvenience yourselves for others? When you sacrifice for others, do you see that as ministering to Jesus? What is your attitude toward sacrificing in order to show hospitality? Before we came back to the house, Christy and Connie gave their Dad a card with a coupon for a free gift to come later. Daddy and I both must have been pretty tired as we took long naps. After nap I cooked cabbage and prunes. Had a bite to eat. Then we went over to Morning Star for the evening service. This evening, I crocheted another spiral piece and stitched three sides of the two pieces together before bed. This will make a little purse.
