Last night we got the following prayer requests from Dad. Thank you so much for keeping Mom and Dad in your prayers and bringing these petitions to the throne of grace. These look like impossibilities, but we have a God who specializes in the impossible. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Just a note to let you know what is going on, and for you and others to pray. My flight was scheduled for this Friday on MAF to go back to Owena. Later they called and said because of pilot issues, and earlier bookings by others, they could not do my flight back until next week Wednesday. Several problems with that. One, Judy will have been back there by herself for almost 2 weeks. One week is hard enough for her. Also, the flat I am in now is needed by Thursday of this week for someone else. The manager of CRMF is trying to work something out [for me to be able to stay longer]. NTM cannot take me in [to Owena] before Monday next week. MAF, NTM, and SIL (Wycliffe) are all short on pilots at this time. Added to that is that our visas expire on Sept. 8 this year, which is only a couple months away. Our sponsor wrote and told us that he needs our visas right away, so that he can work on renewal. I have mine with me, but Judy's is in Owena with no way to get it out. So, we have to figure something out on that. Also, CRMF could not fix our modem so that it could send emails. Still can only receive. So, we have no way to get emails out. So please pray for all these things and pass them on to others. Satan is really trying to stop the work in Owena and other areas in PNG.

May 14. Yesterday evening, I started feeling somewhat sick to my stomach, but by bedtime I wasn’t feeling well at all. Was up several times during the night, especially the first half of the night, and took activated charcoal each time. Didn’t feel like getting up this morning, but Sunny would be coming to work, and I needed to get the laundry ready to be washed. Had to change the bedsheet and pillow cases too. Got up and dressed. Got things together and sorted them out, putting the first load into the machine. Then I had a drink; and shortly after Sunny came, I went back to bed for a while. When I got back up, I had a drink of Emergen-C and a piece of toast with honey. Proofread the newsletter one more time and put the two pages on the flash drive to go to an e-mail in the ACER. Wrote an e-mail with the list of acknowledgments. Daddy sent that, and in the afternoon, he was able to send both pages of the newsletter, one page at a time. Praise the Lord for helping the e-mail to work. I was thankful for a fairly long nap. Afterward, I worked on putting Mark into the print file; and this evening, I started revising my prayer notebook. “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13) May 15. The morning was warm and a bit cloudy and dreary looking at first; but later the sun peeked through, and we were able to go out for a little stretch and enjoy the sun’s warmth. A couple people brought greens this morning so we asked Judy to come and prepare them for us. We were thankful that she was around. I made the bed, folded and put away yesterday’s laundry, and wrote a couple e-mails before doing some Bible study in Exodus. Finished revising my prayer notebook so I could print it after nap. The rest of the afternoon and evening’s computer time was spent adding more of Mark to the print file. “Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.” (Psalm 2:11) “O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.” (Psalm 96:9) “….but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.” (Isaiah 66:2b) May 16. Finished reading Pidgin Acts for my morning Bible reading. Verse 23 of chapter 28 was a good reminder of the importance of teaching Christ from the Old Testament; and verses 30 and 31 were a challenge to, not just receive those who come to our home, but to preach the kingdom of God and to teach the things of Christ without fear. After breakfast, prayer time, and making the bed, I enjoyed my Bible study in Exodus. Then Daddy and I went for a short walk. My legs are still a little weak after being sick the other night so we didn't go far today. The rest of the morning was spent getting the rest of Mark set up in the print file. Praise the Lord for His help in finishing that. This afternoon and evening, I worked on Bible lessons for the Christian school. We also listened to a sermon entitled “Anybody Can Get Away from Jesus,” by a pastor, David M. Enjoyed singing several of the old hymns and having prayer together at the end of the evening. “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.” (Mark 12:30) May 12. Woke up to a lovely morning. There was a little bit of undecorating to do; yesterday’s laundry needed to be folded and put away; the bed needed to be made. Then at 9:00, we called C&C to wish Christy a happy birthday and enjoy an hour’s chat with the two of them. After we had a snack, Daddy wanted to go out for a walk; but it was cooking-a-main-meal day so Daddy went for a walk, and I went out in the yard for a while to get some sunshine. Took the scissors out and trimmed some dead leaves off some flowers while I was out there. Came in and started dinner — peeling potatoes and a yam and cutting them up into small pieces, planning on mashed taters/yams today. Set them in a pan of water, with a little olive oil added to keep them from boiling over, and then started preparing the chicken. Well, onion first — chopped that up into small pieces to sauté with the chicken. Then cut two chicken breasts into small pieces. Put a little olive oil and butter in the skillet; and once the butter was melted, I tossed the onions and chicken in to sauté, seasoned with salt. Started the taters cooking. Got ingredients ready to add later before mashing them. Once the chicken and onions were brown, I added water, bouillon cubes, and other herbs and seasonings. Then got flour and water mixed to make gravy once the chicken was done. Just about noon, when all was done cooking and I was mashing the potatoes, Dallas came with Charity Chicken . This was an offering of firstfruits from Dallas and family. He wanted us to see the chicken before he took her life. I took a picture of him with Charity Chicken. Then we boiled a pot of water for him to use to de-feather the bird. Found a couple sharp knives he could use, as well as a small bucket to catch the blood in, and a piece of plastic to do the rest of the work on. I didn’t take a picture of him killing poor Charity Chicken, but I did take pictures of him removing the feathers and removing the innards. He cut off the feet which they like to eat. He also removed the waste from the intestines, and they will eat the intestines. While he was doing all that, Daddy and I ate our dinner. And while he was cleaning up, I took over and gave the chicken a good bath to get rid of all the blood. Cut the chicken into pieces, giving the wings, neck, and tail back to Dallas as they like to eat those too. Also found the two kidneys and added those to his pile of goodies. It was 2:00 before all that was done. I lay the pieces of chicken on a clean rag (so it could dry before I put it away in the freezer), covered with another clean rag because flies had come looking for this dead animal. The skin was soft and easily came away from the meat so I was able to remove all the skin. The meat appears to be very tender and the two breasts and two legs are thick with white meat. What a blessing! That job done, I was exhausted; and we went and had a short nap. After nap, I put water on to heat for washing my hair, bagged up Charity and put her into the freezer, had a drink, washed my hair. Then it was time to sit down and relax and have a little fruit snack. Also finished yesterday’s journal notes because it got too late last night to finish, spent some time doing Bible study in Exodus, and started today’s journal notes. This evening, I transferred pictures to the computer, edited them, renamed them, and resized them. “Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.” (Exodus 19:4) If the Lord could destroy the Egyptians, carry His chosen people out of Egypt and through all their journeys, and bring them unto Himself, surely Christ our Lord can bring His chosen bride out of the world, through all the wilderness wanderings of life, and unto Himself. “In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.” (Isaiah 63:9) May 13. Slept in a little late this morning so by the time I had had my morning lemon drink, made and drank a smoothie, cooked and eaten a serving of rice cereal, had quiet time, made the bed, refreshed the kefir, filled the filter pitcher, and done a couple other small tasks, it was already after 9:00. Daddy and I went for a walk up the airstrip and back. How refreshing it was to get out in the sunshine and warm breeze! Spent the rest of the morning editing the pictures in Kodak Easy Share in the ACER. This afternoon and evening, I worked on the newsletter until it was finished. Praise the Lord for helping me to finish that! “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” (Titus 2:14) “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people [that is, a purchased possession]; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.” (I Peter 2:9) May 10. This morning, I finished another wee bilum as I decided last night to make a couple of a different style to give to Amos’s two older girls. As I was working on that, MAF came to get coffee so Daddy went up to the airstrip to see the pilot. It was Tim. I had that bilum finished when Daddy returned, and I was getting out ribbon to put in the casing for tying the bilum closed.
As soon as I finished that, I had a snack and then started a short e-mail. Was just about done writing the e-mail when Mike and Amos come. We spent a good while talking with them and making plans for the school closing which, they decided, will be tomorrow. Mike said that Dallas says he is well enough to come. I certainly hope so. Before they left, we had them help us move all the tables out of the schoolroom and into the spare room so there will be enough room for the students and their children tomorrow. They also moved the pulpit so Daddy can use it tomorrow when he gives his challenge to the students. After they left, I happened to think about the front of the pulpit with the GBC logo and name on it. That won’t be right, I thought. I knew I had some long paper so got out a couple sheets, and they are just the right length for the pulpit. Two side-by-side are needed for the width. Started drawing letters on it with “Glori Long God” at the top, then two verses– Ephesians 6:11 and II Timothy 2:3, and then a sword, a shield, and a Bible at the bottom. I wrote part of Psalm 129:8 on the Bible, in Pidgin of course “The blessing of the LORD be upon you.” After nap, I “painted” it with markers. Then I erased all the pencil marks and taped it to the front of the pulpit. Much more appropriate. The rest of the afternoon and part of the evening was used to make the other little bilum so now they are all done and tomorrow morning I’ll fill them with candies for the children. “I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me.” (Psalm 119:30) May 11. A special day for our first daughter, Christy. Her 49th birthday. Wow! Have that many years really gone by since our first baby girl was born? Woke up to a damp, chilly, overcast, foggy morning. Judy came and did laundry. It wasn’t raining, although the skies looked a bit threatening, so we hung the clothes outside. The spare room is going to be used for setting out the food so we didn't want to hang the clothes in there. After breakfast and quiet time, I got busy getting things ready for the closing program for SCMS. The students were all busy preparing food for a big feast together after the program. Hung up the streamer that I made last night by folding over and over the roll of crepe paper. Blew up four balloons and hung them up too. After that, I didn’t have enough strength left to blow up more so the four youngest children may have the four blown-up balloons, and the two older young children can blow up their own. Filled up the wee bilums with candies and hung the bilums up on the walls to give out at the end of the program. Put all the gifts and the certificates inside the pulpit. When that was done, there was time to do some Bible study in Exodus. Then we had an early lunch. Went out and brought in the clothes. Worked a bit more on the Exodus Bible study. Had a nap. Two o’clock came and went, and the students still weren’t here ready to start the program. It was going on 4:00 before they finally started coming. They brought all the food they had cooked and put it on the table in the spare room. We got out the six school chairs for the six younger children. Gideon was late coming, and Amos’s two older girls were late coming. It was good to see Dallas who is still having to use a stick for support when walking. Daddy started the program with a welcome and then had Mike pray. Then we heard testimonies from Mike, Dallas, and Amos, and short testimonies from Mata and Judy. All the testimonies were a blessing to our hearts. Took a little break to give them some time to stand up and stretch. During the break time, I gave out the wee bilums to the children. Then Daddy gave a challenge to the students based on I Corinthians 15:58. That was followed by the giving of certificates and giving of gifts (the afghans I had made) to the students. It was such a joy to be able to give them something special. They in turn each gave us a small monetary gift, a sacrifice for them. Dallas also set aside a chicken for us. (He has raised a brood of chickens and is now selling them.) Daddy then closed the get-together in prayer, they let us get our small plateful of food (brown rice, greens, and taters), and then they started dividing up the rest among themselves. (There were sausages, too, but not the kind that Daddy and I can eat.) While they were dishing up the food, I took pictures of the families and gave the balloons to the little ones. Then we ate; and I washed up our day’s dishes while the others were eating. When they finished eating, they cleaned up the food room and swept the floor in the meeting room. It was going on 8:00 by the time everyone left. Daddy and I were both exhausted. We aren’t used to that much activity and that many children around. But we did have fun with the children and a great time with the adults. When the house was quiet again, we sat and relaxed. Washed the day’s sweat and germs off our bodies. Had our quiet time together before heading off to bed. “Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2) May 7. Sunny came early this morning to work. There wasn’t enough laundry to do today, but there were other jobs — peeling uxai (a delicious vegetable) and cutting it up with onion; peeling and cutting up carrots; sweeping the floors; washing down the front doors; and scrubbing the bathtub. Afterward she had a cup of coffee and some bananas and then spent about an hour and a half practicing keyboard. She started by practicing the middle C note tunes again and then added the ones with D, then B (left hand below middle C), and I think she may have added E also. I only had to help her understand how to get the timing and she went on well from there. After my breakfast and quiet time, I finished crocheting the wee bilum I started last night and then started another one. There were a lot of interruptions this morning with people coming to the door. Daddy did most of the door answering; Sunny did some; and I did just a little. I also worked on the letter-order to Rod and Staff as that needs to get off soon. We finally decided to have the school materials sent by post office, but I didn’t get time to work on the letter because Mike came, and we spent a good while talking with him. Then it was time to start the uxai and carrots cooking for dinner. It doesn’t take long at all for those to cook. I was thankful for a bit longer nap today. It was another hot day, but I was so wiped out that sleep overtook. I noticed yesterday morning that the May grass had turned red overnight, and my eyes and nose and the rest of my respiratory system aren’t liking it too well. We don’t see nearly as much May grass around as there used to be, however, so we are grateful for that. Praise the Lord, I did get the Rod and Staff order finished this afternoon, and that is ready to send off to Christy and Connie to print and send to Rod and Staff along with payment. E-mail has not been working well at all for the past week, however, so we pray earnestly that we can get a connection for e-mails that especially need to be sent. It was late afternoon before I finally got to my Exodus Bible study. This evening, I finished another wee bilum and started another. Have three done now and three to go. Also worked on putting Mark in the print file. “Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.” (Psalm 66:16) May 8. It was afternoon again today before I had a chance to turn on the computer. Slept in this morning until after 6:30, but have been feeling the need for a little extra rest. Then I decided to wash a load of clothes because, somehow, the laundry basket got filled up, and it will be Tuesday before Bonita does laundry. That would have been almost a week since I last washed. So I started filling up the washing machine while I was getting breakfast drinks ready, but Daddy took over and filled it up for me. While clothes were washing, I had my drinks and read a chapter in Acts. The weather didn’t look too good this morning — lots of low gray clouds and fog — so waited a while after wash was done to see if the weather would change. In the meantime, I ate a small panful of rice and had a little time to pray. Praise the Lord, the storm clouds started breaking up, and blue sky and white puffy clouds began to appear. It was a warm morning, and it was a blessing to get out in the sunshine and hang up the clothes. After that, I spent some more time praying and crocheting. Then I started an e-mail to C&C. After dinner, I finished crocheting the fifth wee bilum and then had a nap. It was nice and cool when we went to bed as the skies had clouded up again; the wind was blowing; and there was a little rain. But by the time nap was finished, the sun was back, and the house was hot. This afternoon, I got more of Mark set up in the print file; and this evening, I finished the e-mail to C&C and worked a little more on the print file. “That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.” (Isaiah 45:6) May 9. The skies changed in the evening and at night from starry to cloudy. Skies were clear in the morning with some light fog that came up out of the Lamari valley and then disappeared. After preparing tea for one and pancake breakfast for two, reading a couple chapters in Acts, cleaning up the kitchen, making the bed, and praying, I sat down to finish the wee pink bilum (finished all but the handle) and do a little more praying. Then Daddy and I went for a short walk over to the airstrip. When we got back, I made the handle on the bilum, took a few pictures of the six wee bilums, and then wrote an e-mail to send to Pastor Ogle along with the progress report. Daddy was able to get the e-mail sent while I was transferring the bilum pictures to the computer. Then there was time to work a little bit on the print file until dinner time. Worked on it again after nap and also got the recent Revelation lessons transferred to a separate file and then to a flash drive to be put in an e-mail along with the journal notes for C&C. This evening, we listened to a message by Chris L entitled “A Reputation to Live By.” It was a blessing to sing a couple songs about the Lord’s return, and a challenge to sing “O For a Faith That Will Not Shrink.” May 5. Another blue-sky, no-fog morning. When I got up, I heard the sound of grass being cut — Amos’s girls were already out starting to cut the grass in the yard. I got busy washing clothes, including the bedspread and two bedside table toppers. I underestimated how much laundry there was so ended up having two and a half loads. While clothes were washing, I made and drank tea and made pancakes. In the meantime the girls left for lotu. I even had time to eat a couple pancakes and read a chapter in Acts before the laundry was done. While I was hanging out the clothes, Sunny came to do more work in the yard. After hanging out the clothes, I took time for prayer, as well as walking and making the bed. After prayer time, I cleaned all my personal teaching materials and a few other things out of the missionary schoolroom, reorganized other things, erased and washed the prayer request chalkboard, and also washed the big chalkboard. Then I sat down to relax and do Bible study. When Sunny finished working outside, she came in to practice the music keyboard for a while. She must have practiced for over an hour just playing the scales and then practicing little ditties with middle C as the only note, but C’s with different counts and different changes switching from right to left hand. While she was doing that, I worked on getting more of Mark set up in the print file. Went in a couple times to see how Sunny was doing and help her where she needed. Also went outside and brought in the clothes. Worked more on the print file after dinner. After nap, I washed my hair and then worked on the print file again off and on. In between times, I scrubbed Daddy’s wash basin and also cleaned the bathroom sink and countertop; and I got out one of the LED lights and put batteries in it to use this evening when talking with Daddy. After supper, while the dish water was heating, I browned the meat with some onion so it is ready to make spaghetti sauce for Daddy to have on spaghetti for his dinner after he gets home tomorrow. This evening when Daddy called, I shut off all the lights and just turned on the LED light. Even though I missed some of what he was saying this evening, it wasn't nearly as bad as it has been. Praise the Lord, his COVID test turned out negative, and, Lord willing, he’ll be coming home in the morning. After we said good-night, I put water on to heat for washing up and had a snack while I was waiting. Then I spent some more time setting up Mark. “O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.” (Psalm 98:1) “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (I Corinthians 15:57) May 6. No time to turn the computer on until after nap today. Arose early this morning to be ready for the big day. Praise the Lord, there was a good amount of blue sky, high clouds, and no fog again. It would be a good day for a flight, or so I thought. At 7:30 Daddy called. He said they were looking at the weather on the satellite, and that there was stormy weather out this way so they didn’t know when they would come. They would wait a while and see if things changed. I said, “You’re kidding! There is lots of blue sky here, no fog. I see mountain tops and blue sky for miles away.” A little while later, Daddy called again. They said it looked like the storm systems were moving farther east so they would try to come before it got worse. I thought that was a good idea, because now I could see the front moving in from the west. Two others had called MAF and told them there was blue sky here, so Tim decided he wanted to come and see that blue sky. 😊 Shortly after Daddy’s second call, I saw a drove of school kids moving across the health center area and headed up this way. As some of them went walking by here, I asked Bonita, who was outside cutting our grass, where they were all going. “They are going to cut the grass on the airstrip.” Oh, wonderful! But I wondered why they waited until today and soon the plane would be here. It was some time after 9:00 when the plane arrived. Bonita came in and helped as usual. In between answering phone calls and answering the door, I was thankful for time to have my morning lemon drink and then a smoothie; read a chapter in Acts; refresh the kefir; have a small saucepanful of oatmeal; have prayer time; make the bed; and fold and put away yesterday’s laundry before everything got busy around here. When everyone was gone, Daddy and I got everything unpacked and put away. Then I cooked spaghetti noodles and warmed up the spaghetti sauce, adding the meat I had cooked yesterday. I was tired and ready for an early nap, but didn’t really sleep well because I was so hot and sweaty. After nap, I wrote a bit in my journal and took time for my Exodus Bible study. This evening, Daddy isn’t feeling well. He has a cold again like he did last time he came home from town. I crocheted a wee bilum (string bag) and will try to get five more made to fill with little candies for the students’ little children whenever the students have their closing. Also got the progress report into another file to take to the ACER and send via e-mail to Pastor Ogle. “Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.” (Psalm 60:4) May 3. Praise the Lord for the rain He sent in the evening and in the early hours of the darkness and quiet. This morning He sent us sunshine again. The morning has been busy. There is no more crocheting to do right now, but I did more cleaning out and reorganizing in the storage closet. The box of scrap wood pieces was overflowing so I got out another box and put all the thick scraps into it. Then I got out a clean box for the little scraps and threw away the old, dirty, damaged box. Also answered the door quite a few times — a number of phones to charge, two people who brought eggs, a couple people retrieving their phones. Was thankful to get outside in the sunshine a few minutes too. Sat down for a little while at the ACER and wrote a short e-mail. Tried to send it along with the one I wrote yesterday, but couldn’t get any service. Then I sat down at the HP and did Bible study in Exodus and wrote a bit in my journal. After that, I got journal notes into the file for sending to Connie and started proofreading them. After dinner, before nap, I finished proofreading and now have them ready to take to the ACER and send whenever we can get a connection. After nap and in the evening, I worked on the April progress report and nearly finished it before bedtime. Part of the evening was needed for time with someone very dear to my heart. I was glad to hear his voice, to know that he was feeling much better today, and also that he was able to get a COVID test for his return flight. “4) Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5) But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6) All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:4-6) May 4. Very clear skies this morning. It was refreshing to get outside in the sunshine a while after the day warmed up a bit. The afternoon was quite hot, up to 90º. This morning, I finished a mending job. Then I tackled the bottom cupboard in the entry way and got that all cleaned out. So that cupboard is now ready to be dismantled. Got most of the papers organized that were in that cupboard. Just have a few more to work on. Answered the door a few times while I was working. One knocker was Yanahdo, so she came in to hear some reading from the gospel of John and then have me pray for her. She also wanted a handkerchief to wipe her weepy eye so I gave her one that I rarely use. After having a snack and going out in the sunshine a while, I spent time in Bible study in Exodus and wrote a bit in my journal. Then I finished the progress report that I started yesterday. Didn’t feel like doing much this afternoon, the weather was so hot. Tried to work on the quarterly newsletter, but the heat made it hard to concentrate. Thankful to have gotten a good start on that this evening before and after talking with Daddy. “16) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17) For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.” (Galatians 5:16,17) Yes, there is victory in the battle against the flesh for those who walk in the Spirit, mortify the deeds of the body, and put on the Lord Jesus Christ. For “...they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.” (Galatians 5:24) |
