October 20. Before I could ever get my breakfast this morning, neighbors were knocking on the door. Dear Anna Jean came to fill up the washing machine. Kristina came with a pumpkin, but I had plenty so bought it and gave it to Anna Jean for her mother. Her mother has been sick with something, but the health workers don’t know what it is. Then Nuandauro came with ripe bananas and wanted money for market. Since we have plenty of ripe bananas, I gave a handful of those to Anna Jean for her mother too. A little later Apekio came to see if we needed anything at market, but we pretty well have all we need right now until the gardens are planted and grown. Besides all that, a rubber gasket in one of the blender parts burnt up while I was making my smoothie. So it looks like no more smoothies (or nice pureed soups) until we can get another blender or a part to replace the burnt one. That’s not counting all the people who brought phones to be charged or came to get phones that were already charged. Daddy and Anna Jean took care of most of those. Daddy took care of helping Sera too, who came for pain medicine. Some of the unwellness may be due to the dry, smoky weather. Daddy and I both felt weak and tired after being outside for just a short time. There is just something about the air that makes a person not feel well. With all the goings on, I was late getting the bed made and late getting to prayer and late getting to the computer. But reading further in I Chronicles 16 and writing another poem based on succeeding verses was a time of refreshment and blessing. Later in the morning, I made pizza for our dinner, making a whole wheat crust to fill with the leftover carrots and pasta sauce topped with cheese and pizza herbs. I made sure that I made a little too much dough so I had enough to make five tortillas for my suppers. Afternoon time was given to revising the church history questions to make less writing for the students; and this evening, I spent a little time on the meri blouse. October 21. Praise the Lord for more rain during the night and that there was even a bit of water on the ground this morning. The Lord gave us some sunshine, but quite a few clouds today. While I was fixing and eating my breakfast, Anna Jean was washing and hanging out clothes. I also washed up a pumpkin which she cut up after sweeping the floors. Then she practiced computer for quite a while. By the time I got the bed made and finished prayer time, it was already 9:30. I spent a good while studying King David’s prayer in I Chronicles 16. We both went outside a while and enjoyed the fresh air. I brought the clothes in around 11:00 because the skies were looking like rain. A few drops fell while I was out there, but they never amounted to anything more. I brought all the clothes in anyway, and hung the ones that were still damp in the schoolroom. Worked for a while on journal notes to send to Connie, and finished getting that file ready in the afternoon. This afternoon, I also washed my hair and made a large popo crisp for Daddy since there were two popo that were well ripe and needed to be used right away. This evening, I basted the side seams of the meri blouse and then stitched them up. I think the only thing I need yet to do is gather the ends of the sleeves and make bands to put on them. I’m so thankful to the Lord for helping me to make the meri blouse, especially since I didn’t have a pattern. Used parts of a couple blouses (with some alterations) and made sure I measured carefully before cutting, and basted everything before machine stitching so I could try it on beforehand and not have to take machine stitches out. October 22. I slept so well last night, yet I felt tired all the morning. I was able to have my breakfast early so thought I would be able to get e-mails written, but that was not to be. Daddy needed help getting the stat dec ready for JAARS, and I also printed out a couple copies. Since I was doing printing, I printed a couple copies of our will and testament. Since both the stat dec and will need to be notarized, we need copies to take to town. I almost forgot that I had to make a meal today. I picked out one large kaukau and four potatoes and washed them. The kaukau was nice, but all the potatoes were bad inside except for parts of a couple of them so we ended up with just a small amount of potatoes with the kaukau. Garlic had to be peeled and cut up, and the chicken needed to be cut into small pieces for cooking with the garlic before a gravy was made and added to the chicken and garlic. In the meantime, my pancake that I was heating up for snack got forgotten and turned out to be a nice, crispy dark brown. Then when I got the container of leftover carrots out to heat up for our dinner veggie, the lid removed itself, and the carrots fell upside down on the floor in front of the fridge. No carrots for dinner, but I was thankful for the pumpkin Anna Jean had fixed yesterday, and thankful for a thoughtful husband who cleaned up the mess on the floor. This afternoon, I wrote one short e-mail. Then I worked on my meri blouse. Also Daddy and I went outside for a nice stretch in the fresh air. I was excited to finish the meri blouse this evening. Praise the Lord for all His help. I tried to be very careful and prayerful with every step as the material was somewhat expensive and I didn’t want to spoil it. I even have enough pieces left to make pockets so I may try my hand at that. And maybe make a hair holder too. After our evening devotions, I printed out more sheets of Bible verses to give out to people at the door.

October 18. Used up the rest of the old bananas this morning and made banana/chocolate/ coffee ice cream. Yum! We also learned from Anna Jean that Paul Ove spent some time in Chimbu with Auri’s daughter Judith and her husband, and he was saved while he was there. Praise the Lord! And we pray that somebody will realize the need to disciple him. This afternoon, I worked up a handbook for SCMS (Soldiers of Christ Missionary School) with a list of courses and brief description of each, the cost per year and semester, and the dates for start and end of each semester for 2023. David sang this song of praise, God’s goodness to proclaim: O give thanks unto the LORD, And call upon His name. Make ye known among the people His deeds in song and psalm, Talk of all His wondrous works, Retell them one by one. Boast ye in His holy name, And let the heart of them That seek the LORD, His strength, His face Rejoice, be glad. Amen! His marvellous works do not forget, His wonders, judgments sure, For He’s the LORD, He is our God, In Him we are secure. ~T. J. L. Y. Based on I Chronicles 16:8-14 October 19. Praise the Lord, Daddy was finally able to send e-mails once again, after Wan came and turned the antenna back to point to Obura again. I printed several documents — a teacher’s copy of Wok Misin long Olgeta Hap Graun (Missionary Work Around the World) which went into a report folder to be used by whoever teaches that class; half dozen copies of the SCMS handbook; a copy of the Ephesians text and outline which was put into a file for Mike. Enjoyed reading a few verses in I Chronicles 16 and writing a short poem based on those verses. Was thankful for a refreshing time outside — studying the flowers, pulling some weeds,, picking some kind of worm nests off the nandina tree which is dying. My afternoon time and part of the evening was spent working on the meri blouse. Got the linings and the front and back pieces stitched together and then stitched to each other and put gathering stitches in the sleeve shoulders and got one sleeve piece pinned to the sleeve hole. Sing unto the LORD Yea, sing ye all the earth, From one day to another day His salvation show ye forth. Declare among the nations His wondrous works and glory That everyone around the world May hear the matchless story. Great is the LORD alone And greatly to be praised, Fear Him above all gods And walk in all His ways. For all the people’s gods Are idols deaf and dumb, But the LORD God made the heavens And rules them from His throne. Glory, laud, and honour, Strength and gladness too Are ever in His presence, And He is ever true. Give then, all ye kindreds, Unto the LORD impart The glory due unto His name, Give Him your strength, your heart. Bring to our God an offering, Come worship at His feet, Come worship in the beauty Of holiness pure and sweet. All the earth must tremble And fear before our King That the heavens may be glad, The earth rejoice and sing. Our God JEHOVAH reigneth, All creation shouts and sings, The sea doth roar, the fields rejoice, The trees their anthems ring Because the LORD is coming To govern every nation, Give thanks unto the God of might, The God of our salvation. For He is good; His mercy great Forever shall endure, He’ll save us and deliver us And make us wholly pure. He’ll gather us together His sacred throne around That to His holy name our thanks Forever shall abound. For ever and for ever, Let’s adore our blessed LORD, With praise and adoration Lift our voice with one accord. ~T. J. L. Y. based on I Chronicles 16:23-36 October 16. We continue to pray for rain to water the earth, as well as for many to drink the water of life which is always available for whosoever will. After preparing pancakes and eggs for Daddy’s breakfast, warming up leftover pancakes and eating them for my breakfast, cleaning up the kitchen, making the bed, and having quiet time, Daddy and I enjoyed a special time talking with Christy and Connie for not quite an hour. Afterward, we went outside for a stretch. Then I was blessed and challenged by a Bible study in I Chronicles chapter 13. This afternoon, the cold winds howled and blew fiercely, the storm clouds grew dark, and the lightning flashed and thunder roared; but the Lord did not send any rain. I looked through the supplements I can’t use right now to see what I have and prepared an e-mail for C&C with a list of those for Connie and a list of what Christy can send via FedEx. Afterward, I prepared and printed more Bible verse cards to give out at the door; printed a black and white copy of a picture to paint, and finally started doing some sewing on the PNG material Daddy bought me a couple years or so ago at the SIL store. Was happy to get the skirt finished after supper. That was pretty easy, but I think the meri blouse is going to be somewhat hard, especially since I don’t have a pattern. This evening, we had sharing time for our devotions. Daddy shared some good thoughts on Luke 18:5-10 about our faith being increased through obedience. I shared what I had been studying in I Chronicles. October 17. The sun comes up well before 6:00 these days, and we were up and around this morning before 6:00 came around. People started coming to the door early to get phones that were charged yesterday or to bring phones to charge today. Enok, son of Antuma, came to charge his tablet and also ask Daddy about getting him an inverter at CRMF. He said he has been working on Bible translation with the tablet and inverter given to him by SIL, but the inverter isn’t working well. He told Daddy he appreciated the Bible verses we give him because they help him with translating. Perhaps through translating the Scripture, he will get saved. “The Word of God is quick and powerful….” “The gospel is the power of God unto salvation….” Anna Jean came to get some batteries for Junias with her work money. While she was here, she filled the washing machine. Behind her came Maro’s mother who wanted a box, and then Apekio who brought bananas and wanted to know what we need at market. After Anna Jean left, I gathered up the trash and took it out to be burned. Wandered around a while and looked at the flowers. I had just started a little Bible study in I Chronicles 15 when Matusa and Nandawioxa and their littlest child Teénah came by. The little girl wanted to look at the picture books, but we don’t have them anymore. They had been handled so much, and many people had helped themselves to photos, so the books were in pretty bad shape. But we gave her one of the Scripture picture books that Connie had made on the fruit of the Spirit. Then they wanted us to take a snapshot of them and send it to their son in Moresby, but Daddy’s little phone doesn’t handle that. Then they wanted a picture of the two of them when they were younger with no children. We had taken a snapshot back in 2003 before they had children. I may be able to find that, and we can get a photo printed in town. After they left, I finished the Bible study and started writing in my journal. Then Daddy wanted to go for a walk over to the other side of the airstrip. It was already late morning, and was getting very humid out. We thank the Lord for a cool breeze after we got to the airstrip. I looked through picture files on flash drives and CD’s, for a while before dinner and again a while after nap, but didn’t find one of Matusa and his wife. Looked through the photo album that I thought I had gotten rid of too. Didn’t sleep much at nap time because the wild winds blew through every open space in the house and whipped roofing iron up and down with a rattle rattle bang bang, and flapped and slapped loose pieces of silver paper against itself or the roofing iron. After the winds calmed down someone kept knocking on the door. Later in the afternoon and also this evening, I pinned and cut the pieces for a meri blouse. I want to baste them together before stitching them to make sure everything is going to look right. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: Link above is NOT an affiliate link. I put the link so that you can see what a meri blouse is. This is a traditional Papua New Guinea meri blouse. Mom would make the neck line a little higher on hers. This type of blouse is loose fitting and very comfortable. It's also very pretty. |
