The May newsletter is finally available. We apologize for the delay. You can click on the file below to download the newsletter or on the file right below Mom and Dad's bio on the right hand side of the blog. Thank you for caring and thank you for praying. We also apologize for the quality of the newsletter. Due to the issues they are having with internet connection, Mom had to send it at a rather reduced resolution. This is the best we could do. Thank you for understanding.

May 24. It was well after 9:00 before lotu started this morning. I was able to get Daddy’s trousers legs pinned up, ready to be sewn; and even was able to start sewing one of them. Lotu started with a very small crowd. While they busy themselves making a new building, the church continues to dwindle. Today they had a business meeting and decided they would take a love offering to see if they could get enough money to purchase enough more roofing iron to complete the job. This afternoon, I worked more on Revelation lessons, and this evening, I finished up all the printing I needed to have done by tomorrow. Praise the Lord for His strength and help throughout each day of the week! May 22. It was a busy day. The last day of school for the week. It has been a good week, praise the Lord! Interest and motivation has been high. We pray that it will continue that way. During my first free hour this morning, I prepared a pumpkin and a potful of rice and put them on the wood stove to cook so we can ration the gas as much as possible. Later in the morning, I used the time to finish putting the outline for I Thessalonians into a file. Also revised some questions in the Revelation lessons so the ones that had long answers now have shorter answers. This afternoon I proofread the most recent lesson I had translated, so I can be ready to start translating the next one. This evening, I did some printing and revising of the outreach pictures so there are not so many to print. May 23. Only Amos and Dallas and families in lotu this morning, and Gibson in charge. There were many special needs mentioned, and Amos was asked to pray for those needs. We did not pray for the items on the prayer sheet today. While Sunny was doing laundry, I wrote an e-mail to the Wylers and sent it out. Then I worked on Revelation lessons off and on the rest of the morning, as well as in the afternoon and early evening. Daddy and I did get out in the sunshine for a while and went up to the church site to see what progress has been made. I was thankful to have gotten out somewhat early as the wind was pretty strong later in the morning and my ears and throat have really been troubled by the chilly winds these days. Did some printing this evening as well—new lessons for Revelation class and a set of lessons for Mata who would like her own lessons now. Still have more lessons to print for Mata. May 20. Cool and cloudy nearly all day. Praise the Lord for a little sunshine and enough wind to get most of the clothes dry. When it started sprinkling, Daddy brought the clothes in; and a few items were hung in the bathroom and bedroom to finish drying. Dallas preached in lotu this morning with Leviticus 17:11 and 14 as his text, showing that the life of the flesh is in the blood, and comparing it with the blood of Christ and the life of the believer being in the blood of Christ. Dallas’s message was short, but good. Afterward Daddy started the generator as Judy was here to do laundry. Then he came back and started Revelation class with the students. By the time Judy was done with laundry, the class was ended too, and he turned off the generator. The students had a short break, and then there was music class. Today we went over the questions from Monday’s lesson and then enjoyed singing for the rest of the class, about 40 minutes. I had Dallas lead the singing so I could see how he was doing. He did pretty well. Mike is scheduled to lead singing next time. During that time, Daddy changed the oil in the generator. Afterward, we went to outreach class, and Daddy showed the students how to teach the first lesson. Then they colored the two pictures that go with the lesson. A couple of them still have a little bit left to color tomorrow. After that was New Testament outlines class. Since there was lotu in place of the first class, we were able to finish about a half hour early today. It was a blessing to be able to eat earlier and have an earlier nap. During free time this morning, I completed the ladies’ meeting lesson I started yesterday and set up memory verses for printing. This afternoon, I wrote an e-mail to C&C. Early this evening, I started coloring pictures for the second outreach lesson. A little later in the evening, Bonita came to say that her father would like her to take the GMS training if we could still make it possible for her. (She had mentioned it this morning when she came to wash clothes.) So most of the rest of the evening was spent printing out a copy of each paper that all the other students already have. She seemed happy about being able to take the course. “I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me.” Jeremiah 27:5 May 21. The classroom is a bit crowded now with seven students and eight when Gibson comes for the last course. Interest is high, and there were some interesting discussions in culture class. (I teach culture class on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the same slot as music class on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.) Just not enough time. Mata says now that she wants her own lessons, too, but ink and paper are in low supply. It took me several hours to get to sleep last night so I was quite tired by nap time today and slept almost two hours. Most of my “free” time today was spent copying Daddy’s outline of Thessalonians into the computer. He will use that next for the class in outlines of epistles. Also had to color the next two outreach pictures so the students can see how they are to be colored. They will be ready to do the next two tomorrow. May 18. Very windy and chilly today. Church folks worked at the new church site. Six church folks came to the first day of GMS (Glory Missionary School) classes—the four students and the two other wives. Gibson came for the last class which is on Bible outlines. I just taught one class—music. “Free” time was used to prepare yams and taters for dinner and to finish the future music lesson which I started yesterday evening. I also cut up a big watermelon and we gave most of it to the students during their recess time. It looked really good on the outside but the meat was pretty pale. They devoured it right down to the white of the rind, however. Praise the Lord for His help with classes today. We were a bit unsure of ourselves as we launched out on this new project. Because classes went until 1:00, and then we had dinner, it was nearly 2:00 before we were able to get to nap and 3:00 before we got up. The rest of the afternoon was spent getting ready for tomorrow’s classes. And there was a little bit of printing to do in the evening. May 19. Another very chilly morning. Tried to go out in the sunshine for a while later in the morning, but the wind was too strong and cool. I will need to wear a hat and put cotton in my ears for protection from the cool winds. We seem to be getting a lot of very strong, dry season winds these days. Today was not quite so busy, as I didn’t have a lot of kitchen work today. Classes seemed to go a little more smoothly as we begin to get into a good routine and idea of how to do things. Besides getting a few more pages of lessons ready to print and later printing them, I colored the first two pictures for the outreach class so that I can use them when Daddy teaches the lesson and also so the students can get an idea of how to color them; and I also proofread and printed out a ladies’ meeting lesson and started writing another. May 17. Lotu started quite late this morning. About the only ones here when the meeting started were the pastor families and a handful of others. I did some sewing while I was waiting for the meeting to start. Amos preached the first meeting, teaching more on Old Testament prophecies of Christ fulfilled in the New Testament. Today’s text was Deuteronomy 18:15, quoted by apostle Peter in Acts 3:22. Amos gave many other NT references as well. The first meeting ended late—11:00—and then they had a business meeting outside to discuss the needs and next steps for the new church building. Daddy was tired and had a little nap. Then we had an early lunch. I did not go out to the second meeting because there was lots of cool wind, and my ears and throat were already hurting. After a while I went for a nap. I did hear Mike start preaching, teaching more about Christ always doing the will of His Father and finishing His Father’s work. After the second meeting, the men met with Daddy to let him know what their plans are for completing the new church building. This afternoon, I added questions to the final section of the Revelation lesson I had been working on, and finished up that lesson. This evening, I got another couple weeks’ worth of journal notes ready to send to Connie. May 15. Last morning to sleep in. Well, I hadn’t really planned to sleep in, but was awake from about 4:45 for quite a while, having a hard time breathing because my nose was all stuffed up. Mike came while I was fixing breakfast. A little later, Mrs. Mike came, and the children came, plus a couple extra, and then Dallas came. They worked around the yard until a little after 12:00, cutting grass, weeding, digging ditches. The children helped by filling boxes with grass and weeds and taking the boxes outside the gate to dump them. When they were all done outside, Mike and Dallas filled up the firewood box. The children were excited to each get a chocolate wafer for their help. Daddy and I enjoyed our walk together up the airstrip and back. Then I got the newsletter set up in jpeg files and transferred to a flash drive to go to the ACER for e-mailing to the girls. This afternoon, I got them transferred to e-mail files with a short note and then wrote another e-mail which I put in draft until after the letter pages send off. The one in draft has all the acknowledgments to be added to newsletters for donors. Daddy tried sending the newsletter pages this evening, but no success. This evening, I added some seasonings to the rest of the kaukau and pumpkin and its broth and whipped that up for soup for our dinner the next couple days. Also printed out an attendance sheet and assignment sheet for MTP (Missionary Training Program) classes, and printed two copies of James through Jude which we will proofread after we finish Revelation. “Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?” Jeremiah 23:29 Oh, Lord, may your word set some hearts afire here in Owena and GIBC. May 16. The day started out clear and very cold. Down to 54º this morning. But the sun was shining, and the day soon warmed up. Early in the day, a strong breeze started blowing. Gusty winds blew the sheet up and around all the clothes on the line ahead of it, and the pillow cases and towels wrapped themselves together. The winds became quite cool by mid-afternoon. There was plenty to keep Sunny busy today — laundry first thing after lotu; then floors to sweep, buckets to refill, and Daddy’s shoes to clean. Then she left, but soon came back with a bunch of greens which I had her sort and prepare for cooking, along with an onion. Before she left, Oyaqava came with his wife and daughter (Nuka) and a huge stalk of bananas. We bought them all, but cut off less than half the stalk which Sunny helped us hang up to ripen for our own consumption. The rest of them are in a box which hopefully will keep the rats away for the night, and the bananas can go into the offering in the morning. In the midst of many interruptions, I finally managed to finish writing a section on studies in Revelation by the time early evening had arrived. May 13. There were only eleven here for lotu this morning. It seems that many other things are more important than lotu. Amos and family are off in the kunai digging a garden for yams, but Bonita was here and washed clothes after lotu. Afterward, she went to get her two sisters from their mother’s place, and the three of them were to go down to be with the family. The morning found me busy getting the culture lessons ready for printing student copies. Also punched holes in all the lesson papers that are already done, getting them organized into their notebooks. Went outside in the sunshine for a little while. Daddy was busy painting undercoat on the new door in the spare bathroom. This afternoon, I finished getting the culture lessons ready. Then I set up James through Jude in one file so I can print them out for us to proofread as soon as we are done with Revelation. Got the outlines for those books put into the file of outline lessons too, but didn’t take time to read through and reformat those yet. Daddy put overcoat on one side of the new door and plans to do the other side in the morning. A little before 4:00, I went to work in the kitchen, first making some veggie crackers for my snacks and then some tortillas for my suppers. This evening, I did more printing (I think the last of it for right now), punched more holes, and put papers into ring binder notebooks. May 14. The first hour or so of the morning after breakfast and quiet time was spent cleaning off the desktop in the schoolroom, putting away all the books that were on it and washing it down so I have room for office supplies like the paper cutter, long-arm stapler, etc. Then I made the bed and put away some of yesterday’s laundry. The rest of the laundry is still waiting to be folded and put away. Sat for a while and started writing a quarterly newsletter. Then Daddy and I went for sunshine, exercise, and fresh air with a walk up the airstrip. Worked more on the newsletter when we got back. Then prepared kaukau (sweet potato) and pumpkin to cook for dinner. Continued with the newsletter while dinner was cooking. Completed the newsletter this afternoon and hunted for a few pictures to add to it. Daddy proofread the letter. Then this evening, I added the pictures and did a final proofreading of the newsletter. “23) Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? 24) Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.” Jeremiah 23:23,24 Praise the Lord that he is a God at hand. Oh, how we need His presence! May 11. Quite a large group of church folks working at the new church site this morning. I spent a good part of the morning working on the April progress report. Had forgotten how much went on in April. This afternoon, I got chapter 3 done of the Philippians outline. Daddy proofread the progress report, and I transferred it to a word file and then a flash drive. This evening, I got an e-mail ready to send to Pastor Ogle with the progress report, but nothing sent out or came in this evening. Also started cleaning out the inbox in the ACER. May 12. A chilly morning with lots of fog, but later the Lord sent us sunshine. It was a blessing to get out and go for a walk up the airstrip. This morning, we heard quite a commotion coming from down in the village. Learned that there was quite a fight amongst families of the same clan over a young woman who is pregnant by a young man of the same clan. There were lots of injuries before the fighting was done. Oh, how these people need to hear a clear presentation of the gospel! Besides routine household tasks, most of the day was spent working on MTP files, trying to get everything in order for classes next week. This evening, I did a fair amount of printing again. |
