June 24. Up early for shower and to get ready to go to C&C’s house. Daddy vacuumed the floor while I took a shower. As soon as I had had quiet time and breakfast, we headed out. In the early service, Pastor continued his teaching on the Spirit-filled family, starting from Ephesians 6:1-4 and branching out to a couple other passages. His title was “Spirit-controlled Parenting”. The Lord is to be the center of the parent-child relationship and the teaching and training of the children. Deuteronomy 6:2 and Psalm 78:4-8 indicate to us that grandparents and even great-grandparents have a role in teaching children. You must realize that the next generation will set their hope in God only as we point the way for them. Your past has an influence on your family. You bring baggage into your home. Many times in your new home, you may have an over-reaction because of the influence of your past home. Preaching in the latter service was from I Peter 4:10,11, dealing with spiritual gifts. Every Christian has some gift that is used within the local church. Many have more than one gift. Areas of gifts may be developed. Two categories—speaking; serving. Cf Romans 12:6-16, I Corinthians 12:4-12. Sign gifts which authenticated the New Testament church have ceased. Ultimately, the glory for the use of gifts goes to God. All those gifts are given by the Spirit. The gifts are different and are to be used differently—not everyone will be as passionate as we are about the particular gift God has given us. You must use the gift God has given you to bring Him glory and to serve others. I Peter 4:10--Every man has received the gift (grace) - no merit of his own—given by the Holy Spirit. The gift was given to us so we could serve others. We are therefore to be good stewards of that gift. A steward is someone who manages something with which he has been entrusted. Verse 11—In all things, the gifts are to be used to glorify the Saviour. I was very thankful for a nice, long nap this afternoon. Was also glad to be able to get a chance to paint once again. I think the painting is getting closer to completion now. Have had a little difficult time learning how to paint snow. It just hasn’t been coming out as I would like it to. “Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.” I Samuel 7:12 These words were spoken by Samuel after the people turned back to the LORD and the LORD fought for them against the Philistines. As we turn to the LORD for help against our enemy, we also can say “Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.”
