October 7. The Lord sent us rain today, nice gentle rain. We feel sorry for those who are getting the hurricane rains and wind. So much destruction and death, especially in Haiti. It was so nice to stay at home today. Even at home, the day was very busy. Computer time was spent on the discipleship booklet. Divided the booklet into two volumes of about 50 pages each. Then I started proofreading and have nearly finished volume 1. Looked through the supplements required by R.M. for his clients, but they are way beyond our budget, but will strive to follow the suggestions in his book as much as possible, substituting less expensive brands of supplements. Have already been implementing his re-hydration program, and it seems to already be helping. After looking through his supplements, I looked up substitutes online and made a list for C&C to order. Later in the morning, I fixed a pot of carrots and green beans to go with our dinner and fried up some mushrooms, onions, garlic, and celery for myself. Also put a butternut squash into the oven to bake. This afternoon, I ate some of the squash for my snack. Yum! No better snack then fresh baked butternut squash! Before supper, I did up some of the dishes so Christy wouldn’t have so many this evening. “18Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness…. 20For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.” Romans 6:18,20 Free from sin = free to serve righteousness. Servants of sin = free from righteousness. October 8. Dark and cloudy and very windy today, but no rain. We had a lot of power surges this morning when the wind was blowing. This morning, I did a little crocheting, got the progress report written, did some reading, made a large pot of soup for dinner and a for few days to come. After nap this afternoon, we went to the fairgrounds and wandered through the exhibit buildings. It was interesting to look at all the crafts people had entered into the fair plus the school and business exhibits that had been set up. We saw Mr. Mellentine and said hello to him. Met and talked with the lady at the Amazing Grace Missions booth. Received New Testaments from the man at the Gideon Bibles booth. (Those can be given away to neighbors.) On the way in, Daddy stopped at the Shelby police van in the parking lot and thanked the police for their work in protecting our community. Before coming home, we stopped at Big Lots and bought a few items we needed - millet, amaranth, rye flour, snacks, water, TP…. “But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.” Romans 6:22 Because we are free from sin, the fruit of our servitude to God should be holiness.

October 5. It was another day out. A short stop at Ingles here in Shelby, then off to Gaffney where we made a short stop at Ingles there also before heading for the market place to pick up C&C’s milk. I’ll be happy not to go out somewhere tomorrow. In the mail today, I received a book I had ordered - Healing Digestive Illness, Root Causes and Solutions, by Russell Mariani. I did also finish the section on witnessing in the discipleship booklet this morning before we went out. Tonight Pastor Ogle gave introductory remarks for future preaching through the book of Exodus. The theme verse of the book he gave was Exodus 15:13, “Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation.” The title, “No Blood, No Salvation.” Then he gave an overview of the book and what is contained in the chapters of each section. “11Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.” Romans 6:11,12 October 6. A very cool day, and cloudy this morning. Wore both sweater and jacket for a while to keep warm. This afternoon, the sun came out, and it felt good to take off my sweater. This morning and this evening, I finished up the discipleship booklet. The last section was on tithes and offerings. Praise the Lord for His help with that. It looks like we will divide it into two volumes, however, as it is fairly long for one. Then it will need to be proofread and pictures added before printing a copy. Then the printed copy will need to be proofread. Late morning, Daddy and I went out for a walk -- down to Rite Aid where we bought one small item and then over to Dollar General for another small item. Picked up the Shelby Shopper too. We decided to do laundry this afternoon, since rain is predicted for tomorrow. And in between loads, I washed up a mountain of dishes. “14For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 15What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.” Romans 6:14,15 Again we are asked, Shall we continue in sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? Absolutely not! Don't even consider it. How can we sin if sin has no dominion over us? October 3. Forgot to make a shopping list yesterday so that had to be done this morning before our trip to Charlotte. There was also soup, smoothies, and a yogurt snack to make so I would have plenty to eat during our time out. Left the house around 9:45. Connie’s appointment was earlier this time so the chiropractic office was our first stop. Then we walked over to the Neighborhood WalMart but didn’t find anything to buy there. We just got smiley face stickers from the lady at the door and told her “You can smile because Jesus loves you.” Then we went to Trader Joe’s and did our monthly shopping there. Stopped at a Subway near Gastonia for Daddy to get himself some lunch. Last of all, we stopped at Neighborhood WalMart in Kings Mountain and bought a number of things there. I was happy to get home - it was 2:30. Got food put away, had my afternoon smoothie, and then a nice long nap. October 4. More shopping today after my 10:30 appointment with Dr. Prime. His mother was there today doing his book keeping. Her name was Maria, a very sweet lady. Has been here for a week with her son, but will be going back to Trinidad tomorrow. I was thankful that we finished most of our shopping today. Just a couple things to pick up at Ingles tomorrow when we go to Gaffney to get the girls’ milk. Finished another section in the discipleship book this afternoon. “7For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him….” Romans 6:7,8 We are dead with Christ. Thus we are freed from sin. Shall we then continue in sin? How can we? We are dead. October 2. All the adults were together for Sunday school this morning, and Bro. Jerry Judd taught the class. Genesis 49 was his text as he talked about some of Abraham’s servant’s character traits and how we as God’s servants should have the same kind of character. Dr. Baker preached on faith promise giving in the main meeting, using I Corinthians 16 and II Corinthians 8 as his text. He also did the preaching this evening from Matthew 27, The Basis of Missions -- the Cross, the Gospel (Christ’s death and resurrection). It has been a wonderful missions conference. How could souls not be stirred to give themselves to go into all the world and preach the gospel! It was a blessing to receive a text message from Pat this afternoon. Christy and Connie had a good opportunity to talk with our neighbors across the street for a while when we arrived home from the morning meeting. “1What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” Romans 6:1,2 October 1. Slept in ‘til nearly 7:00 this morning, tired after going out three nights in a row. Very cool this morning. Temperature down to mid-50’s. Around 9:30, Daddy and I went out for a walk to Save-a-Lot to get bananas for the dinner at church today. It was a nice refreshing walk. There were quite a few people out for us to greet. The young cashier at the store was happy to receive a tract. On the way home, we talked to a young couple very briefly. They were standing at the gate in front of our next door neighbor’s house. I didn’t do much computer work today. Did a little cooking, a little crocheting, some research, a few other little tasks. Daddy and the girls left here about 11:15 for the missions dinner at church. Afterwards there was a panel discussion in which Daddy took part. They got home around 2:30. “Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound….” Romans 5:20 Grace greater than our sin. Always greater than our sin. Praise God! September 28. It was a nice cool morning. As we started out for our walk this morning, I didn’t think about the possibility of the ground being slippery after the rain last night, but just as we got to the back west corner of the house where the ground goes slightly uphill, there was a muddy spot where I slipped and nearly fell. I reached out my hand and leaned on the side of the house just in time to keep myself upright. If the corner of the house hadn’t been there, I’d have been down. Once I regained my composure, we went on with our walk. My first job after we got back was to get the income report up to date. When that was done, I prepared a large pot of veggies to cook for soup. Also put on a small pan of lentils to add to the soup. Spent some time on the discipleship book again today. And Daddy helped me find another blanket for the bed so I won’t get too cool on the cooler nights. And we found a smaller box which I used to reorganize the display items we wanted to take to church this evening and set up for the missions conference. We left a little before 6:00 for church so we could get set up. Tonight was the first night of our missions conference. Stephen Jenny talked about his work and showed his video presentation. Dr. Roger Baker, European and Mid-East field director of Macedonia World Baptist Missions, brought the message from Matthew 9:35-38. One important fact that he brought out from verse 35 is that “Jesus went.” He didn’t sit somewhere and wait for people to come to Him. He went. He went teaching, preaching, and healing. In verse 36, He was moved with compassion when he saw the people. He saw everyone as people who needed a shepherd. He didn’t look at their outward appearance, but saw their heart and their need. In verses 37 and 38, He wanted His disciples to be involved in ministering to these people. So our guest missionaries are Dr. & Mrs. Baker, Stephen and Charity Jenny, and Jerry and Dawn Judd. It was really good to see the Judds again. It had been a long time. They are excited about being able to go back to New Zealand. The Stalcups also had a display table. Before the meeting was over, my whole body was hurting quite a bit - maybe from the “fall” this morning? I wanted to walk around and talk to some of the other missionaries, but they were all busily involved with other people. Then I saw a lady standing behind a man who was deeply involved in conversation with Mr. Judd. The man, I knew, was Mr. Burrow. So I assumed that the woman was Mrs. Burrow. It was, and I enjoyed a nice chat with her until Daddy was ready to leave. It was late (9:30) when we got home, and is already 10:30 now so I am off to bed. September 29. It was a very cool 61º this morning. We waited until around 9:00 before we went for our walk. It was still only 65º then, but the fresh air felt good and we didn’t feel too cool. We did wear jackets. We did have the opportunity to greet several people, but no opportunity to have conversation with any of them. Cleaned out a number of e-mail files this morning, got a couple greeting cards ready to go out, and made up my October schedule. Spent a lot of time working on the discipleship booklet, hoping to have that done before Daddy leaves for PNG. Left for church around 6:10. Had some special visitors this evening - Bro. Norm; the Rices. It was good to see them. Bro. Judd presented his burden for New Zealand. His heart was broken for the souls of those people. I’m so glad they are able to go back. I was greatly challenged by Dr. Baker’s message. His text tonight was Mark 8:36,37, preaching on The Value of One Soul. How I prayed, “Oh, Lord, please give us the souls of the people on our streets.” “20He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. 22And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. 23Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; 24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; 25Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.” Romans 4:20-25 What a wonderful example we have in the life of Abraham! He had no doubt whatever that God would perform what He had promised. Because of Abraham’s faith in God’s promises, righteousness was imputed to him. And it is imputed to us too who have believed on God who raised up Jesus from the dead so that we might be justified. September 30. A lovely, cool day today. Spent time often throughout the day meditating on things we have heard in the messages the past couple nights and in Adrian Rogers’ sermons on the radio. Did a good bit more work on the discipleship book. Finally found the warm blanket I had been looking for. It is supposed to get quite a bit cooler tonight, possibly down around 50. I finally got to talk with each of the visiting missionary wives this evening -- Dawn, Diane, and Charity. Dr. Baker’s message this evening was based on Genesis 22, “Holding Back Nothing from God.” A heart searching message. We praise God that Rudy was there this evening with Lazara. Have been praying much for him since yesterday evening’s message. Dr. Childs asked Rudy tonight if he knows that he’s a sinner. Rudy hesitated a bit, but answered in the affirmative. The first time he has ever admitted it, Lazara said. The first step forward to salvation. September 26. Warm, muggy, and cloudy today. We did enjoy a walk before the day got too hot. On the way back, we greeted a couple ladies who were sitting out on their porch. One lady said she wished she could walk like we were doing, but she has a problem with her legs. They had taken a vein out of her legs for her heart, she said. I told her we could put her in a wheelchair and push her. She laughed and said she could go for that. After our walk, I made up my diet plan with only nutritious drinks and a list of foods I would need to buy to make the drinks. It seems like my system shuts down as soon as I try adding solids. So guess I’ll have to stick to just liquids for a while. Then I got two sets of journal notes fixed up and sent to Connie. I had fixed up the one set a couple weeks ago, but she never received them. After that, I finished making the corrections in Luke. Now I can get back to re-setting up the print file. This afternoon, I completed another section of the discipleship booklet - the section on the Lord’s supper. “3After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances. 4Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God. 5Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD.” Leviticus 18:3-5 God’s people are never to walk in the ways of the heathen. God is the LORD, and we are to walk in his ordinances alone. If we keep his statutes and judgments, we shall live in them. This verse does not say that we will be saved by keeping them. It says that we will live in them. We will live a life that is pleasing to God, and He will preserve our life. How many believers today are walking in the ways of the heathen? September 27. We left the house at 9:00 this morning to go shopping, a few things for ourselves and quite a few things for Christy and Connie. Christy usually does their shopping on Monday or Tuesday; but yesterday evening, she had a class at the college; and this afternoon, she wanted to bake some items to enter into the fair. It was a long morning out. First to WalMart to pay the rent and exchange an alarm clock, besides getting groceries. Next to Aldi, followed by a stop at Ginger’s salvage store to show Ginger the items I would be entering into the fair. And last of all to Ingles for a few more groceries. It was 12:30 before we got home. I was really hungry by the time all the groceries were put away. Was glad I had a half of an acorn pumpkin left that I had cooked the other day. Added some tofu, chicken broth, and other flavoring to that to make soup. Then it was nap time. This afternoon, I got the income report up to date. Also made sure all my items were together for the fair. Daddy was looking through the fair catalog and discovered that all the entries had to be in by 7:00 this evening. Connie rushed around to get all her items together. She printed out entry forms for the three of us to fill out. Christy had planned to make fudge and bake rolls, but didn’t have time for that. The only thing she had time for was to bake cookies. And she still had the last few stitches to finish on her cross stitch. Then had to iron it and put it in its frame. At 6:00, we headed for the fairgrounds. It started raining just when we got there so we got out the umbrellas and hurried across the street to the exhibit hall. Praise the Lord, we got in there just in time before the downpour. By the time we finished checking in our items, the rain had stopped, and there was a beautiful rainbow. “16Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, 17(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.” Romans 4:16,17 By grace, through faith, sure to all. Amen! September 25. Not quite as hot today. This morning was a bit rushed as I needed to make something for our dinner. Cooked some spaghetti and ground meat. Found a bottle of spaghetti sauce. Took some veggies out of the freezer to thaw. We all went out together around 9:00 a.m. to head for church. A sister of one of the neighbors was outside and saw Christy and Connie. She came to ask if we could take her to the convenience store. It would only take a few minutes to do that so Daddy put the back seat up and we headed out. The store was closed so we went on up to another one, but it was closed also. So we took her back home and headed on to church. We still had plenty of time to get there for Christy to be on time for nursery. The end result was that Connie gave “B” an Amazing Grace tract with the radio station and time of the Unshackled radio program written on the back. (Please pray for "B" to get saved. Pray that we will know how to share the gospel with her and that she will understand it and receive Jesus as her Savior.) Mrs. Surrett covered Esther chapter 7 in our class this morning, and Pastor Ogle preached on our missions conference theme “Every Member a Missionary.” The three ways in which every member should be a missionary are Praying, Paying (i.e. giving), and Participating. His text was II Corinthians chapters 8 and 9. Before our nap, Daddy went out to the car for something and "C" asked him for some water. He gave "C" a bottle of water from the car. I thought of Matthew 10:42, And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. This evening, Troy and Veneda White from the field of Mexico were at EBC. Their youngest son Jeremy was with them as well. Bro. Troy gave a report of the ministry and also preached. He preached on missionary verbs - go, have mercy, send, come. All the missionary verbs go forward, never backward. It was a good message. We talked for quite a while with the Whites after the meeting. “28Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. 29Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: 30Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. 31Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.” (Romans 3:28-31) Justification is by faith for everyone (both Jews and Gentiles); no other way. September 24. Back up to the nineties again today, but am thankful it still gets cool at night. Christy and Connie left around 8:30 this morning for Kings Mountain to meet the ladies at the church for an outing to the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte. The library is not in the area of Charlotte where the rioting and looting has been so there wasn’t any particular concern about safety. Not long after they left, Daddy and I went out to do some shopping -- WalMart, Aldi, meat mart, and Ingles. I was thankful to find some nice yellow potatoes at Ingles. It was around noon when we got back from shopping. I put the food away, and Daddy went out to Subway to get some lunch. I didn’t realize it would take me so long to get stuff put away, but I was just getting my lunch warmed up when Daddy returned from Subway. My back and legs were hurting quite a bit today as we shopped, and Daddy said his legs were hurting too. Maybe we were sore from the furniture rearranging we did yesterday. Both of us felt pretty tired by the time we settled down for nap. It was about 4:00 when Christy and Connie arrived home from their tour of the library, a stop at the farmer’s market, and lunch at Culvers. Connie brought back a little lamb for me that she had bought at Ruth’s Attic at the Billy Graham library. This evening, I finished a piece of crocheted jewelry, and now I’ll try to get a matching bracelet made. Then I can enter that into the fair this week along with the needlework roses, the baby outfit, and the lacy flower hair piece. “23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.” Romans 3:23-26 All have sinned and all may be justified freely by God’s grace, through faith in Christ and in His blood. Amen! Praise God for justification, redemption, and remission of sins – all freely given by faith! September 22. First day of Autumn. The Lord gave us a nice cool night. We turned the bedroom fan off just before we went to bed. With the fan off, it is much easier to hear the “village noises.” This morning, we started out for a walk, but a chilly breeze was blowing so we turned back to the house to get light jackets. Started out again. Felt a few drops of rain fall on my face just before we got to the house. The Lord sent us a little bit of rain today, but we need much more so we’ll continue to pray. After our walk, I cleaned out some e-mails and also wrote a couple, made corrections in the Luke file, and worked on the discipleship booklet. Fixed fish for our dinner which we had with salad. Also made myself a low fat, low carb cheesecake. Had a bit longer nap today as I was fairly tired. Spent more time on the discipleship booklet after that and after supper. “Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” (Romans 3:20) The law was not given as a means of justification, but as a means of showing us that we truly are sinners. September 23. A little warmer today, but cool enough this morning to sit out for a while for part of my quiet time. It was laundry day so we didn’t get out for a walk. Daddy and I also rearranged the office this morning. There isn’t much ventilation in this room, and it gets so stuffy. But we were getting too cold the way things were with the desks in line with the a/c. It is much better now with the changes we made. The move was a major operation, and I was quite tired by the time we finished. After that I had a couple hours left to get a mid-morning “meal”, write a few short e-mails, and make corrections in a couple more chapters of Luke. Right after lunch, we got the clothes in and then went right to nap. This afternoon, I finished the chapter in the discipleship booklet on the local church. And after supper, I sat outside reading a book for about 45 minutes. It gets dark early now, so I need to get out right after supper while I can still see. “21But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference….” Romans 3:21,22 The writers of the law and the prophets prophesied that righteousness would not come by the law, but by faith in the Messiah. Righteousness by faith in Jesus Christ is available for ALL who believe. There is NO difference. Everyone who believes is saved by faith, and by faith alone. |
