April 17. Lots to do this morning before heading off to church. Washed hair, fixed Daddy’s breakfast and then mine, had quiet time, finished packing. Went off to church a little before 9:30, but left after Sunday school so we could have lunch and a nap before heading up to TN. Left around 2:30 for Roan Mountain, thinking that, on the winding roads, it would take us about three hours. Pastor Honeycutt had told Daddy it would only take about two hours, and he was right. Got to the church around 4:30. A couple people were sitting inside the church building. One of them helped Daddy set up things for showing the slide presentation. I sat in the car and crocheted a while and then went in and set up the display. Pastor Honeycutt came early and talked with us a little bit, but also made sure that he greeted all of his church members as they came in. Our heart went out to the pastor as he told us about the trials he went through with his wife having cancer for six years and then passing away three years ago, his daughter having leukemia about that time and having to have bone marrow transplant, and also trials within the church. It was such a hard time for Pastor Honeycutt. Even though their church attendance is still about half what it was, the Lord has still been blessing the radio ministry, bringing students in for Bible school, and allowing them to continue their printing ministry. The meeting went well except for not being able to get good sound on the presentation. They finally put a microphone near the computer to pick up the sound. We started the presentation three times before it was loud enough for them to hear. Then Daddy preached for about 20 minutes on “Why Missionaries Do”… and covered certain areas like learn language, study the culture, translate the Scriputres…. After the meeting, Pastor Honeycutt took us out to Elizabeth to the motel where we would be staying. We were thankful to even have a place to stay as the motels were full of people who had come for the Nascar races. After he left us, Daddy and I went out to find a place to eat. Drove through town and back and didn’t really see a place we wanted to go. Finally came back to the Lone Star Steakhouse close to the motel, but after we got in there, we found that the prices were way above our budget. So we left there and went back uptown to Wendy’s. By then I was more than hungry so was thankful for just anything to eat. “34Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. 35Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. 36And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. 37And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. 38I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.” John 4:34-38
