August 3. A day for shopping. Started out early this morning, after breakfast, of course. To Seng Da first, then Istana, King Wee, and back to the house with the items we had bought. After a short break, we went to Goroka Wantok Market (formerly Goroka Food Mart) and then to Hot Spot. Back to the house again for dinner. Browned up some ground beef to go with the kaukau and veggies that were leftover from yesterday. After dinner, I was very tired and took a somewhat long nap. It was going on 3:00 before I woke up. Then we went to all the pharmacies, mainly to check on what vitamins are available and the prices. Also went to Goroka Stationery to check on printers. Met a nice young man who says he is Baptist, but has been backslidden and hasn’t been to church for a while. He said they can give us a discount on the printer and toner, and also give one free toner with the printer. We need to check on the printer online to see how economical it is. After Goroka stationery, we went to Papindo and bought a few more groceries there. It was about 5:00 when we headed home for supper. Enjoyed a nice tomato and cheese sandwich for supper, using one of the tomatoes we had bought at King Wee this morning. Right after supper, I washed up the dishes. There was quite a stack of them as they hadn’t been washed since yesterday afternoon. Finished crocheting the stars for the bilum too. August 4. Today, I only went out shopping in the morning — first to Goroka Wantok Mart and then to a couple hardware stores. Came back to the house to drop off cargo and get a snack. Then went uptown to YuYu and Chem Care. Had tomato and cheese sandwiches for lunch as we were to go out to the Watsons for supper in the evening. After nap, I started on the newsletter and got the rest of the stars stitched onto the bilum. Outlined the bird of paradise so I could cross stitch it later. Had a shower and started cross stitching until it was time to go — a little before 6:00. Enjoyed a nice meal with Glenys and Jonny and their four daughters — Katy, Alana, Danielle, and Lucy. Also had a good time of fellowship and getting acquainted with Glenys and Jonny. Came back to the flat a little after 8:00, too tired to work on the newsletter so just did a little cross stitching on the bird until almost bedtime. Then Daddy and I did some proofreading of Hebrews and had prayer before going off to bed. August 5. We didn’t go anywhere today. There was plenty to do here, and we needed time to relax more than we needed to do shopping. I also had yesterday’s dishes to wash since we went out for supper last night, and I hadn’t even thought of doing them in the afternoon. There was laundry to do this morning too. I labored over the newsletter a bit in the morning, but even more this afternoon until supper time when I finally finished the body of the letter. Sometimes it is so hard to know what to write and how to write it. This evening, I added some new missionary quotes and then had Daddy proofread the letter. David came to visit a while just before noon so we had a little bit late dinner. Washed up today’s dishes this evening. Also finished cross stitching the bird of paradise so am now ready to start crocheting the back side of the bilum. August 6. I didn’t go anywhere again today. Daddy went out shopping most of the day. It was a very cool day. Had my light jacket on all day, and another jacket with it this evening. The Lord sent us a good rain this afternoon, and it is raining yet this evening. This morning, I wrote a couple e-mails -- got the progress report sent off to Pastor Ogle and the newsletter to C&C. This afternoon, I wrote an e-mail with the acknowledgments for the newsletters. Prepared some veggies for supper. There was still enough kaukau left over to go with the veggies. Did up the dishes shortly after supper. The water wasn’t very hot this evening since there was no sunshine today. Daddy learned that Glenys is sick and did not fly today. August 7. It was another very cool morning, and cloudy; but the Lord did send us a little sunshine today. Didn’t go out this morning, but worked on writing e-mails. Also got more journal notes ready to send to Connie. Daddy tried to get outlook set up in the Lenovo but without any success. Later in the morning, he went looking for a generator. Couldn’t find anything the size he was looking for so we will probably have to get another 5KVA. At noon, we went out together to Papindo for lunch. Met up with Wilson outside Bintangor, and he came back to the flat with us to help Daddy pack up a couple more boxes, load up the truck, and take cargo over to the hangar. Found out that Glenys is still sick. I took a nap after they left for the hangar and then started an e-mail to C&C. Worked on that until supper time, and finished it in the evening. Also worked more on crocheting this evening. August 8. Praise the Lord for a better night’s sleep last night! The Lord gave us another cool day, but with a little more sunshine than the day before. Then He sent us a little rain this evening. After breakfast and quiet time, we enjoyed about an hour’s talk with Martha. Then Daddy went out to do a little bit of shopping. I did a little bit of crocheting, and then it was already time to fix dinner. Put a pot of rice on to cook. Diced up the chicken, sautéed it with some onion, added water and bouillon and let it cook, mixed up some flour and water for gravy. Everything was nearly done when Daddy came back. There were leftover veggies that I had prepared yesterday. After dinner, I had a welcome nap and afterward did some more crocheting. August 9. Connie’s birthday. My, how fast the years have flown! After breakfast and quiet time this morning, we enjoyed a nice long chat with our daughters; and I crocheted while we were chatting. How nice it would be to give them a big hug! By then it was mid-morning so we decided to take a stretch outside and get some sunshine and exercise. While we were out the Wilsons (Jonathan and Kathy), our neighbors in the next door flat, came back from the meeting at EBC. Then they came down to chat with us outside. After a while, we needed to sit down again so we went up to their apartment and talked with them until a little past noon. They are nice folks and easy to converse with. Came back over to our flat for lunch and nap. Then I washed my hair and did a little more crocheting. Jonathan came over and invited us to come play Querkel (or however it is spelled) in the evening. So I washed up the dishes right away after supper, and at 6:30 we went next door. First, we had a short devotional together—a reading from The Daily Bread, and then we prayed for each other. Then we played Querkel and had snacks and talked some more. At 9:00, we came back to our own flat.
