Note: In posting Mom's journal notes, I skipped the ones from December so I can catch up to recent news. January 4. Most of the day was busy with packing. A few men did work on the airstrip cutting grass. The grass is so hard to cut, but at least they got enough done in the center for the plane to land safely. We really need to find some kind of grass killer and get rid of that bad grass. (Not a good idea, the pilots said. There is too much of the bad grass, and killing it would mean more of the airstrip would wash away and get rough. What we need is a heavy duty lawn mower, and they recommended one.) I did do a little crocheting for sit-down time. Also printed out the teacher’s copy of the next Revelation lesson. Wrote a couple short e-mails this evening; copied some e-mails to answer in town; printed October/November bank statements so Daddy can work on the income report. Praise the Lord that e-mail service is working right now. It seems that someone must have done maintenance on the Okapa tower. January 5. We had no idea what time the plane would come. They told us that it would probably be between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. But we kept busy while we waited—finishing up packing and weighing things up, answering the door, talking with Mike (Mike has been sick all week with his stomach pain again), eating, making the bed, hanging blankets out in the sunshine to air, etc. Since we didn’t know what time we would get a lunch, we finished up the cheese that was left and each had an open toasted cheese sandwich and then a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Last of all, I washed up the dishes — that was about 10:00, and Daddy got in a couple e-mails. I had just finished washing dishes and started reading the e-mails when we heard the plane coming. The Lord gave MAF a great flying day and they were well ahead of schedule. They didn’t mind waiting for us, however, as this was their last stop for the day. The plane ride gave me a good twenty minutes to finish my prayer time. It was about 12:15 when we got to the flat. We unpacked before going out to lunch; but I was much too tired to go anywhere so had a bowl of cereal and went down for a nap, and Daddy went out to Papindo for lunch and to do some shopping. He had barely gotten out the door when he came back for some aspirin as he had started getting a migraine. After my nap, and after Daddy got back, we went to Papindo central together to try to find some juice to take to the Venters. Found some nice red juice and was happy to find sesame seeds as well. It has been a long time since I have had any seeds or nuts. Took a shower shortly after we got back and got ready to go out to Venters’ for dinner. Enjoyed a good meal and a good time of fellowship. It was nice to have a hug from Michelle and from the girls. My how the children have grown! Emma has grown so much too, and is a happy baby. I was happy to be able to hold and snuggle her. “I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.” Psalm 101:2
