July 21. Praise the Lord for His goodness and His watch care over us today. Up at 6:00 this morning to wash hair, have breakfast, have some spiritual food, do last minute packing. By 8:00 the car was packed up and we were ready to go. After prayer and saying good-bye to Connie (we had already said good-bye to Christy earlier as she had to be off to work), we were on the road. It seemed like a long day, meandering along those winding mountain roads. We made several pit stops and stopped for lunch at Subway at a Pilot truck stop in Pioneer, TN, about 20 miles from the Kentucky border. A truck driver came in and sat at the table next to us, and we engaged in a conversation with him. He’s been driving truck for 30 years. Used to drive coast to coast, but now only from Wisconsin to Colorado. He is from PA, however - Mansfield - close to where Daddy used to live, and he was excited about meeting someone who knew that area. When we left, we gave him a tract, which he was already reading while we were still talking with him. I pray God’s word in the tract will bear fruit unto life eternal. After lunch, Daddy filled up with gas and noticed the back tire on driver’s side was low. There was no gauge at Pilot for measuring the air so we went on up 75 until we came to Williamsburg, KY, where there was a WalMart. Sure enough, it was low. The air pressure only measured 22 and it should be 36. They pumped it up for him, but we’ll need to keep an eye on it. Don’t know why it was down so. It was 3:30 p.m. when we finally found a motel to stop at for the night - Holiday Motel in Berea, KY, right next to Cracker Barrell. It is an old motel, but pretty on the outside and well kept up and clean on the inside. Has microwave and fridge which we were needing and are thankful for. I was so happy to get out of the car. My legs were long since numb, and it took me a few minutes to get moving, and then very slowly. Did a lot of crocheting along the way, and read more of Dr. Comfort’s book Last Things. A lot of sobering facts and food for thought. “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.” Acts 8:12 When they believed the preaching, they were baptized. If a person truly believes, they will have no doubts about whether they should be baptized or not. Baptism easily follows true faith in Christ and shows to the world that we have become new creatures and have new life in Christ. July 22. Praise the Lord for a comfortable bed and good night’s rest at the motel. We didn’t hurry to get going this morning as our trip would be a little shorter. Still woke up around 6:00. After getting dressed and having quiet time, we went down to the office to see what was available at the continental breakfast bar. The only thing for me was some cheerios. I took a half bowlful of those and went back to the room. Added some All Bran, a banana, and milk. After breakfast, we got the car loaded up. It was a little after 8:00 when we left the motel so still got started around the same time as yesterday. Did more praying, crocheting, and reading along the way, and also sent a couple text messages. We had already arrived at our town of destination (Avon, IN) before we found a place to stop for lunch. It was around 1:30 before we got to eat. Enjoyed a nice meal at the Longhorn Steakhouse. About 2:15 when we left there, and not far down the road we found Faith Baptist Church where we are staying in the prophet’s chamber for tonight. We are thankful for the availability of these facilities. It was around 3:00 before we got settled in and settled down for a nice long nap. How thankful I was for the rest! “And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.” Acts 8:25 The word of God must be preached in all the world, for faith comes by hearing the word of God.
