December 18. The Lord gave us quite a warm day today, and He sent us clouds and rain too. It rained quite hard on the way home from morning church services, but just a light rain tonight. We are thankful for the rain. We are praying for the Lord to send some sunshine to PNG. They have had a great abundance of rain there. This morning, Mrs. Surrett gave a lesson on ribbons of blue. The title is taken from Numbers 15:37-41 where the Israelites were to put ribbands of blue on the fringes of the borders of their garments as a reminder to “do all my commandments, and to be holy unto your God.” Her lesson was about a program of Bible study with an emphasis on who God is, and with the purposes of helping one to know God better; to remain faithful to God by obeying His commandments, turning from one’s own desires; and to become more like God. Pastor Ogle’s morning message was from James 5:13-20 on The Provision of Prayer, its theme being that “prayer must be a vital part of our private life and a vital part of our church life. And this evening he spoke on light, his main text being in John 1:1-9, Jesus having come as a Light into the world. He covered facts about light (it confronts; it comforts; it is contrasted with darkness); the function of the light (to bring salvation to the whole world; and the focus of our light (that it should be different; that it should give us direction; that it will cause us to be a disciple (we should be confronting, comforting, and contrasting); and that people should see our good works and glorify God. This afternoon, I called Daddy again. Before we ended our conversation the youth had started arriving for the morning meeting. They decided to meet from 7-9 a.m. instead of 8-10 so Philemon could be there. Philemon has to be at the health center by 9:00 since he is in charge while John and Margaret are away. “Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father….” Galatians 1:4 Christ gave Himself. Nobody took His life from Him. He laid it down. And it was because of our sins. It was because of my sin that He gave himself. He gave Himself because He wanted to deliver us from this present evil world. He wanted to “tear us out” of this hurtful, degenerate, calamitous, diseased, ruined, vicious, lewd, wicked world. He wanted to give Himself because it was the will of His Father and our Father. He came to do His Father’s will. Oh, thank you, Lord Jesus, for your willingness to lay down your life in my place and to deliver me from this evil world. Thank you for being willing to do the Father’s will. Help me, Lord, to always be willing to do the Father’s will.
