December 16. Low 20’s this morning, and only got up to mid-30’s. I waited until mid-morning to wash clothes. Put part of them in the drier and hung out the rest three or four at a time, coming back in and warming my hands between sets of clothes. I used up the rest of my food yesterday, so cooked some amaranth for breakfast and found a recipe for oriental white fish which I prepared to go with the amaranth. Tasted so good. After breakfast and quiet time, I deleted a bunch of e-mails before doing more work on the translation print file. After washing clothes, I gave our bathroom a good cleaning, including the bathtub. I’ve been putting it off because it is so hard for me to get down on the floor and scrub; and I’ve also been waiting for a warmer day as the bathroom is so cold. But I couldn’t stand to look at it any longer so I turned on the little heater in there and went to work. Scrubbed it with cleanser first, and that removed a lot of the rust colored stains. Rinsed it all out and then sprayed with disinfectant bleach spray and let that set on the stains for a while before the final scrub. By the time I got done scrubbing and rinsing, it looked like a new tub. The last job of the morning was to make a pot of soup - green broth this time - green onions, parsley, celery, kale, napa cabbage, a little leftover broccoli, and some flavoring. Voila! A nice healthy soup. Oops, a little too much pepper. This afternoon, I added verses and questions to the next youth lesson. Fixed a yummy tofu pudding for a mid-afternoon snack. Brought the clothes in (even though all of them weren’t quite dry) because icy precipitation is predicted for tonight. “6For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. 7The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: 8But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.” Deuteronomy 7:6-8 Like as He called Israel to be a holy people, the Lord also called us to be a holy people. (Ephesians 1:4; I Peter 1:15,16) He chose us, through faith in Christ and through sanctification of the Spirit, to be a special people. (II Thessalonians 2:13; I Peter 2:9) Compared to all other major religious groups in the world, true believers are few in number. It was because of His great love for us that He delivered us from bondage and redeemed us. (Ephesians 1:7; 2:4,5; I Peter 1:18,19; Romans 3:24) Through the shed blood of Christ, He made a covenant to give eternal life to all who trust in His Son. And because He loves us, He will keep His promises to us. (Titus 1:2) December 17. No computer work today. Washed hair first thing this morning. After breakfast and quiet time, I did some sewing and a couple other odd jobs. And later in the morning, we all went out shopping. First to Crossroads Thrift Store to look for some warm blouses, and then to the Hospice Thrift Store for the same. Found two warm blouses/shirts at each store. Also found a few little craft items. After the thrift stores, we went to Big Lots to get some snacks and a couple other little items. And last of all to a shoe store to look for some warm winter shoes. Christy found a nice pair of slippers on sale, but neither Connie nor I found shoes that were comfortable though we tried on many pairs. It was already around 2:30 when we got home. Had some lunch and then settled down for nap around 3:00. Woke up abruptly about 4:00 when I heard the phone ringing. Who would be calling? Daddy was the only one who usually called this time of day. But I thought I was supposed to call him tomorrow afternoon. By the time I got awake enough to get my bearings, the phone rang again, but he could not hear me answer. And the third time, the same. I finally was able to call him back and talk with him. He said it was very rainy, windy, and chilly there. But he had the wood stove going and usually keeps it going at least through noon so he can cook a meal and also have hot water to wash with later in the afternoon. He said that the men did not get to meet on Saturday because nobody told Matthew and he was in Marivo with his father who is sick. So they met yesterday to discuss the church situation, particularly the leadership roles. I was glad to hear some encouraging news. Amos told Daddy that Sunny is standing strong in her Christian life, and Mata wants her to help lead the ladies’ meetings. Dallas and Phinehas are doing well among the young men and are helping in church and youth group. “9For we are glad, when we are weak, and ye are strong: and this also we wish, even your perfection…. 11Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.” II Corinthians 13:9,11
