February 28. Last day of February. Seventieth day of winter. Clouds and a little rain during the day and more rain this evening. Daddy and I went out early this morning for appointments with Dr. Cook. We were there by 8:30, and both of us had adjustments and were back home in about an hour. Then I needed to make soup. No special recipe today. Just threw together the veggies I had left in the fridge—mushrooms, celery, carrots, a couple apples. Added lentils and barley, butter, beef bouillon, other seasonings, and tofu. We had a surprise brief visit shortly after noon from Rob Ferguson of BBN. He was visiting in this area, but didn’t think anyone was home so left a packet. Daddy saw him out there, however, and rushed out to see who it was. Thus we were able to meet him and talk with him for a few minutes. Had a fairly long nap. After I got up, I noticed water running across the bathroom floor so Daddy and I mopped up the floor. By then it was almost time to have a bite to eat and do the dishes. We left for church around 6:10 so we could pick up Cindie. Pastor Ogle’s preaching this evening covered Exodus 33, “In order to plead with God, we must know God and have fellowship with Him.” In verses 1-3, we saw that God keeps His promises even when we are stiffnecked. Throughout the chapter, we saw that Moses pleaded with God 1) on the basis of His word previously spoken; 2) on the knowledge God had of Moses; 3) on the grace of God; 4) on the fact that Israel is God’s people; 5) on the basis of God’s testimony; and 6) on the basis of God’s glory. “Is your pleading selfish, or does it show a concern for others?” “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.” Proverbs 8:13 March 1. Seventy-first day of winter. Rainy and dreary today. Our shopping excursion took us to Aldi, WalMart, and Marion St. Dollar Tree. There wasn’t much on the list today so it didn’t take long, and we were home by 11:00. Actually, there were some other stores we wanted to go to and look for some things, but there wasn’t anything we needed right away and we had already decided we could go another time. This afternoon, I looked over Acts chapter 16, and this evening, I made an anniversary card and started another John lesson for Mike. “5Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it. 6Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. 7For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for? 8And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?” Deuteronomy 4:5-8 Like Israel, we have been taught God’s word. If we fear God (as the book of Proverbs teaches us), we will obey His word, for this is our wisdom and understanding in the sight of others. The unsaved ought to be able to see that God’s people are a wise and understanding people, whose God is very near him and hears his prayers, a people who has statues and judgments so righteous as only God’s laws are which he has given us. Oh, if only we would fear God so that we might be a wise and understanding people who obey all His commandments!

February 26. Sixty-eighth day of winter. Mostly cloudy today with a little rain this morning and a heavy rain this afternoon. Periods of sunshine and temperature up to around 68º, but temperatures dropping significantly following the afternoon rain. This morning, Daddy and I went out to run some errands. Stopped first at KMart to look and see how the sales were going. Didn’t buy anything except a pair of slippers. Next to WalMart to pay the rent, return a couple items, and buy a pair of scissors and some water. Hobby Lobby was next where we bought yarn to make a gift. Then BigLots to look for rice cakes which they didn’t have, but we got a few other little things. Next stop was Lidl’s where Daddy checked to see if they had undercharged us on an item the last time we were there so we could pay the difference, but they said there was no problem. And last stop was the post office to get stamps for mailing copies of the coming-up newsletter and to mail a letter to Julie R. It took most of the afternoon time to look over Acts chapter 13. This evening, I started crocheting a shawl for Christy’s buyer’s agent. February 27. Sixty-ninth day of winter. Chillier this morning—39º, but got up to 62º. Beautiful sunshine. Was so nice to get out and hang clothes. After doing laundry, I looked over Acts 14. Then I cooked a pot of zucchini and onions for myself and also cooked a pot of broccoli and carrots for Daddy and made him hamburgers for his dinner. This afternoon, I looked over Acts 15 and got another ladies’ lesson written. “5O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart. 6Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. 7For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. 8All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them. 9They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge. 10Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. 11For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. 12I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.” Proverbs 8:5-12 February 25. Sixty-seventh day of winter. Mostly cloudy day, with some rain this morning, and a few minutes of sunshine off and on throughout the day. We had combined adult Sunday school this morning with Evangelist Doug Lowery speaking on “Enemies of the Christ-Honoring Home”, with Song of Solomon 2:15 as the theme verse. He listed 10 enemies of the Christ-honoring home: Untamed tongues, uncontrolled anger, unresolved conflicts, unloving actions, unguarded media and electronics, unbridled covetousness, untrained (unrestrained—my addition) children, unfaithful and wandering hearts and eyes, unbended knees, unsaved dads and moms. He finished his teaching a little early so we had an extra-long fellowship time. I went outside for a little fresh air and also sat in the car to rest a while and have something to drink and a bite to eat. In the next service, Pastor Ogle preached from I Peter 2:1-3, “What Should and Should Not Be a Part of Christianity”. “We must daily feed on the word of God in order to grow.” Took the long way home so we could get gas in SC. Was very tired by the time we arrived home. Had lunch and then a long nap. After nap, I planned out the setup of the girls’ bedrooms in their new house. Connie helped me with hers. This evening, after I washed dishes, we listened to a message by Pastor Weiss on “Senses Exercised”, based on Hebrews 5:12-14. It went along really well with Pastor Ogle’s message this morning. “16These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” Proverbs 6:16-19 February 23. Sixty-fifth day of winter. God has given us another sunny, spring-like day. I was so thankful to be able to get out and to hang the clothes out in the fresh air and sunshine. After doing laundry, I looked over chapter 11 of Acts and started chapter 12. Then I went to packing and finished filling up a box that was nearly done. Then Daddy helped me fill up another box with books. After nap, I finished looking over Acts 12. Then I packed three more boxes of books. This evening, I started making a wedding card. “21My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: 22So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck. 23Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble. 24When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. 25Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. 26For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.” Proverbs 3:21-26 February 24. Sixty-sixth day of winter. Mixture of clouds and sunshine. Today was letter-writing day. Finished making the wedding card; wrote a note to Julie R, but need to get some overseas stamps; got a “thinking of you” card out in the mail for Mary M; and got a “praying for you” card ready to take to church tomorrow for the Workman family. Also took all my clothes that were in boxes on the dresser and transferred them to a suitcase on top of a pile of packed boxes next to the dresser. That way we have a couple extra boxes for packing books. This afternoon, I fixed up Christy’s file of pictures and descriptions of Burkina Faso and printed them out so she can get a poster made. This evening, I did a little crocheting on the afghan for Ruth; and after our family devotions, helped Christy with the layout of the poster. “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” Proverbs 4:7 February 21. Sixty-third day of winter. Another cloudy, but very warm day. Rain was predicted, but there hasn’t been any. Sun has peeked out several times and then run away to hide again. The first part of the morning was spent in the kitchen. I prepared quinoa for breakfast and enjoyed a bowlful of that with chicken and gravy. Then I got ingredients together for spinach soup and put that on to cook. I was good and ready to sit down by then, and it was already after 11:00. While the soup was cooking, I started looking over Acts 9 and finished that later in the morning. Also got the shopping list made up for tomorrow. Started drawing up a diagram of the house. After nap, I checked the first part of Acts 10 and worked more on the house diagrams. Connie and I together finished planning the kitchen/craft room area. Pastor Ogle taught from Exodus 32 again this evening, his theme being “Leading in Time of Adversity.” He covered some truths and difficulties of being a leader. “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.” Proverbs 3:13 The road to happiness is through finding wisdom and getting understanding. And the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom and understanding. Therefore the road to happiness is the fear of the LORD. February 22. Sixty-fourth day of winter. Cloudy this morning, but the Lord blessed us with lovely sunshine in the afternoon. We went out a little before 9:00 this morning to shop. By the time I got half way through WalMart, my hips were having a hard time carrying me, and that slowed my pace way down. Then we stopped and talked quite a while with a former co-worker of Daddy’s, so we were a little later getting home than we otherwise would have been. I went out to the entrance of WalMart and sat on the bench while Daddy checked out. After getting home and putting the food away, I had my lunch right away. I had only had a smoothie for breakfast so was quite hungry. My legs and hips were hurting so bad by then and I felt so wiped out that I went right to nap. It was only 12:00, but I was thankful to get a little extra nap time in. This afternoon, I sent some crochet files to Connie and looked over the rest of Acts chapter 10; and this evening, I worked on a Sunday school lesson and finished crocheting a ponytail holder I had started yesterday evening. It was a pretty fast project—only took about an hour total. “14For the merchandise of it [wisdom] is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. 15She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. 16Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. 17Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.” Proverbs 3:14-18 The road to happiness is finding wisdom through the fear of the Lord. Gaining wisdom will profit us far better than gaining silver and gold. Wisdom is more precious than rubies and than anything else we could desire. Nothing can be compared to wisdom. She will bring us long life, riches, and honor. Her ways are pleasant, and her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who lay hold upon her. So let us take firm hold of wisdom and not let her go. How happy will be that soul who so does! February 19. Sixty-first day of winter. A warm but cloudy day. This morning, I went through e-mails, deleting a few and writing/ sending several. My legs, (especially the left leg) were hurting quite badly this morning so Daddy called Dr. Cook, and we went off to see him around 11:00. It was around 12:00 before we got back home. Then I had lunch, got last week’s journal notes together, transferred last week’s pictures to the computer, and edited them. Had about a fifteen minute nap before Daddy, Connie, and I took off to meet Beth at a house. Mel would be coming to look the house over for us. This is a house that seems to be truly move-in ready. While Mel and Daddy looked things over, Beth and Connie and I measured the rooms. Then we talked for quite a while about what steps we would need to take next to make an offer and try to purchase the house. We were there for about an hour. After arriving home, I had a snack and sent journal notes and pictures off to Connie. When Christy got home from shopping, we discussed with her about making an offer on the house. I also started looking over Acts 7 and got about half way through that. “1My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 3Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; 4If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 5Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.” Proverbs 2:1-5 February 20. Sixty-second day of winter. Very foggy morning. Cloudy most of the day, but warm. The Lord gave us some lovely sunshine this afternoon, and it was refreshing to get outside a little while. They put a pretty bird picture on my desktop this morning with a link to pictures of beautiful birds so I took a little time to look at birds while clothes were washing. Then Daddy and I hung out the clothes. After that, I looked over the second half of Acts 7. Then I fixed chicken ‘n’ gravy, taters, and peas for Daddy’s dinner. While dinner was cooking, I worked on the notes for leadership meetings. After dinner, we got the bed made up and lay down for our nap. This afternoon, I finished the leadership lesson I was working on and also looked over Acts 8. This evening Christy heard back from Beth that the request for the loan to cover the total cost of the house had been pre-approved (praise the Lord!) and so we were able to make an acceptable offer on the house. Then Beth sent her the papers to fill out for the disclosure statement and the contract, and Beth will take care of getting everything into the hands of the other parties. The contract will also have to be signed by the seller. Lord willing, Christy should be able to close on the house within 30 days. After Christy got done on the phone, she and Connie went out to Joan’s place to “sit ‘n’ sew.” I washed up the mountain of dishes that was sitting by the kitchen sink. “6For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. 7He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. 8He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. 9Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path. 10When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; 11Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee.” Proverbs 2:6-11 |
