April 30. Wow! One third of this year already gone. Soon the Lord will come back. Today has been a very cool day, a welcome change from the heat. And it was mostly a cleaning day. First thing to do, however, was make pancakes for Daddy and myself. Then have breakfast and quiet time. Daddy helped me rearrange the bedroom, pulling the bed closer to the dresser and putting my chair on the opposite side of the room by the window. When I was ready to sit down, I hemmed up the other curtain for the kitchen window, and then Daddy put up curtain rod hardware so we could hang them up. I made a couple tie backs with narrow navy blue ribbon and little wooden Americana hearts. After Christy finished her laundry, she and Connie went over to the trailer to do more cleaning and packing. Daddy went too. They thought maybe some students would come to look through things that were there and take some things they could use, but they must have been too busy today. Most of them have exams coming up this next week before the school year ends. While the girls and Daddy were gone, I made our bed and cleaned the bedroom and bathroom floors. Then I stitched a hem on a curtain for the tall kitchen food cupboard. We don’t have any curtain rods small enough for it, however. When I finished that, I did some crocheting. Had more time for praying too while I was sewing and crocheting. A little before 12:00 noon, I put the rest of the kale on to cook to go with our leftover spaghetti for dinner. It was some time after 12:00 when Daddy got home, and the girls a little bit later. This afternoon, we packed a few little things to take with us tomorrow when we go to Joy Baptist. Afterward, I sorted through a bag of vitamin supplements and put those away, cleaned out one drawer in the hutch in the laundry room, and cleaned things out of one basket of this ‘n’ that. “68Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.” John 6:68,69

April 28. Quite warm again today. After breakfast, quiet time, and a little time crocheting this morning, I straightened up the kitchen a bit and unpacked a couple more boxes. Then we went to see Dr. Prime and afterward walked over to the bank to cash a check. When we got back home, I washed up last night’s dishes. This afternoon, I finished up the baby afghan. Am thankful to have that done and ready to go to the Overbays this weekend. It has been exciting today to watch a tiny bird outside our kitchen window, bringing materials to make a little nest inside a tiny birdhouse. The birdhouse is actually a decoration with chimes hanging underneath it. We didn’t know that it would turn into a real birdhouse for some tiny bird. It was so much fun to watch her. Some of the material she brought for the nest was much too big to fit through the little hole. But she was persistent, struggling and flapping her wings and pushing with all her might until she finally got that piece of twig to go through the hole. The birdhouse would swing around and around in circles, and the chimes would make music as she worked. When the work was all done, the pair of tiny birds went into the house together. “38For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. 39And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 40And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.” John 6:38-40 April 29. Didn’t seem to get quite as hot today. Washed two loads of clothes and hung them out while the morning was still cool. Then Daddy and I went for a walk. We changed our walk time to morning because it has been too hot in the afternoon. On the way back home, we took pictures of some very lovely pink flowers on the roadside. A little later, Daddy went to WM to pay the rent and exchange a clock. While he was gone, I made the bed, folded clothes from the other day, looked at towel racks with Connie, got May’s schedule made up, and before lunch had it printed out. This afternoon, we brought the clothes in and hung them up, except for the few that needed to be folded and put away. Then I worked on Sunday school lessons for Owena and completed two lessons. “45It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. 46Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father. 47Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” John 6:45-47 Faith cometh by hearing. April 25. The night was warm, and it has been a fairly warm day. This morning we washed and hung out two loads of clothes. I also wrote a couple e-mails, typed and printed a letter for the church in Owena and put it in the box of “Lav, Mesi, Marimari” books, sealed up and addressed the box so it is ready to mail, addressed and sealed a couple grad invitations to go out in the mail, sent journal notes and photos to Connie Sue. By then it was noon; and, since we didn’t have anything in the house for a meal, Daddy and I walked down to Subway for lunch and dropped the two invitations into the mailbox down there. When we came back, it was time for a nap; and after nap, we got the clothes in off the line. Then we two and Christy went over to the trailer to do some more cleaning out. Connie stayed here to fix a meal for Christy. It was after 5:30 when we got back here. Had a light supper and then got the income report up to date and wrote four thank you notes to the churches and individuals we had visited this past week. “Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.” John 6:27 April 26. What a day! Another load of wash to do this morning - sheets and towels. Then we had a long day out. Chiropractor at 9:30. Next stop at the Post Office to mail a couple letters and mail the package of booklets to PNG. From there, we headed to Gastonia to shop at ValuVillage and Goodwill. Came back to KM and shopped at WalMart Neighborhood Market, and then went to Ingles for lunch and more shopping. It was after 3:00 before we got home. After getting groceries put away it was going on 4:00, and then we had a nap. I slept until about 5:00. Went through some of the old e-mails this evening, deleting some, copying out receipts that need to be printed, and answering others. For a break from sitting, I did some straightening up in the living room. Then we had our family time, and afterward I washed the dishes. “28Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” John 6:28,29 April 27. Another very warm day. More shopping to do today. A little after 8:30, Daddy and I headed off for town. Decided to go to Big Lots first and see what they might have this week. We didn’t even notice the time when we got there until we tried to go into the store and found that it wasn’t open yet. Just had about ten minutes wait before it opened. Found lots of good buys there today. Also had a coupon for 20% off which was a blessing. After Big Lots, we went next door to the Salvation Army thrift store. I was thankful to find a nice dressy summer jumper which I had been looking for. Also got a wire frame to use to make a flower wreath. Next stop was WalMart for just a few items we couldn’t find at the Neighborhood WalMart yesterday. Did our Aldi shopping after that and then ran over to Dollar Tree for some greeting cards. Got home around 12:15, put away all the food, had lunch, and then had a nap. After nap, I got cards ready to mail and one card to take to church for Pastor Ogle. Then I got the income report up to date. After that, made a salad for supper and started to make spaghetti until we remembered that there would be an awards banquet at church tonight. So I didn’t finish making the spaghetti. Took a shower and washed my hair. Worked on crocheting until time to go. Went through SC on the way home to get gas. Stopped in Grover to mail a couple letters. Arrived home right after C&C did. “35And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. 36But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. 37All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” John 6:35-37 April 23. It was so nice to sleep in our own bed last night. Thanks to the Lord for a better night’s sleep. Got up a little after 5:30 this morning, however. My back couldn’t find a comfortable position anymore. Took a shower, had breakfast and quiet time, got a couple cards ready to go in church mailboxes tomorrow, and spent most of the rest of the day working on invitations for Christy’s graduation party. This afternoon, I made a meatloaf and then Daddy and I went for a walk. When we came back, I put kale and broccoli on to cook for supper. There were OODLES of dishes to wash this evening as Christy had made pancakes for breakfast and baked bread and cookies this afternoon; Connie had prepared a couple meals; and I had prepared a meal. “47Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise. 48Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the LORD.” Psalm 106:47,48 April 24. What a wonderful day it has been! Mrs. Louise Champlin, 88 years old, born and raised on the mission field in the Congo, and still serving in Suriname, shared her testimony with the ladies’ Sunday school class this morning. What a faithful servant and example for any woman to follow! Next year, 2017, will make 100 years of missionary service within their families, beginning with her parents who, with their children, went into the interior of the Congo in 1917 to take the Gospel to people who had never heard. Louise’s father gave his life for full time service, and, in his own words, “from that time on, I never looked back.” About 90 of his descendants are now in full time service, many of them on the mission field. Mrs. Champlin has come back to the US for a couple months to see several new great grandchildren. Her husband passed away this past August in Suriname and his body is buried there. They had served the Lord together for 62 years on the mission field. This evening, Mrs. Champlin showed a brief presentation of their years of ministry and then gave her testimony. Such a blessing and challenge! The Surname people are Africans whose ancestors were brought there as slaves, but rebelled against their masters and won their freedom. They didn’t care much for white people or the white people’s God, but since the light of the Gospel was brought to them, many souls have been saved and lives changed. In the regular service, Pastor Ogle preached on James 1:19-20 on being swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath, his theme being that you must be more willing to hear and respond to God’s Word than to talk about it. “25Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live…. 28Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.” (John 5:25, 28, & 29) April 21. Left Coatesville around 7:30 this morning. Thought we would run into rush hour traffic, but the going was pretty smooth as far as that goes. Followed route 30 all the way to Chambersburg and then picked up I81. Lots of towns on 30 so it was slow going in many places, but we were thankful to have a lot of green lights. In one place, we passed a rescue mission thrift store and decided to stop to see if Daddy could find a suit. No suit to fit him, but there was some nice soft red yarn which I was delighted to find. I knew I wasn’t going to have enough white yarn for the whole baby blanket, and the green and yellow yarn are too rough. The red goes so well with the white, and was a just-in-time find so I could switch colors. Stopped for lunch at Perkins in Winchester, VA, and for gas at a Pilot in Harrisonburg. Arrived in Fishersville around 3:00 p.m. where we are staying at the prophet’s chamber of Midway Bible Baptist Church. After getting our belongings in, the first order of business was a nap. We are thankful for the availability of this little house. The Owens have had some trials recently, as the pastor fell out of a tree in December (about 30 feet) and broke about 20 bones. The doctors were amazed that he even survived, let alone that he was walking again and sooner than they expected. The burden for most of the upkeep and other work has fallen on Mrs. Owens. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” John 5:24 April 22. The night was warm, and the day was cool, cloudy, and rainy. We praise the Lord for a safe trip back to Shelby. Left Fishersville around 7:30 a.m. and arrived home just about 2:00 p.m. Got the car unloaded, put away food items, and had a short nap. After nap, we finished unpacking. Praise the Lord for safety and protection in our travels, for His blessings along the way, and for people who prayed. “Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew forth all his praise?” Psalm 106:2 April 20. Glad for the time we had to spend with Beth and Mark. Left their house around 9:45 this morning. Got gas first, up the road at Flying J. We didn’t really need gas yet, but knew it would cost a lot more in PA. By filling up, that would get us here to PA and then back to the same area tomorrow on our way back to NC. Praise the Lord for a lovely day and a safe trip to Coatesville. Stopped at a Golden Corral east of Lancaster for lunch. Arrived at the Courtyard Marriott around 3:00. Got settled in and refreshed ourselves with a nap. Around 6:20, we left for the church. Some people were already there. They started prayer meeting at 6:30 and went until 7:20. The pastor had his secretary call Daddy this morning to ask if he would preach tonight as well as show the presentation. Of course, Daddy was willing to do that. When we arrived, the pastor asked Daddy to just give a brief update of our work (without the video presentation) and then preach until 8:15. Of course, he was willing to do that as well. We got our display set up and then went into the prayer meeting. It was such a blessing to see what God has been doing through the ministry of Valley Baptist and to see the heart that Pastor Cavanaugh has for souls and for his people to be serving the Lord. Many people assured us that they had been and will be praying for us. It was a joy to be with them. After church, we were given a small gift by a church member to go out and get something to eat. We were directed to a small pizza place called Little Anthony’s and enjoyed some pizza slices and smoothies. “That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.” John 5:23 April 18. It was after 10:00 when we went to bed last night. Getting to sleep was another story. The sheets didn’t fit the bed (a king bed), and we were soon sleeping on a bare mattress. There wasn’t even a mattress cover. It was also very warm so we covered the mattress with the top sheet as well as the fitted sheet (which didn’t fit) and just put a blanket over us. Still the room was pretty stuffy, and finally, around midnight, I opened the window to see if we could get some fresh air in. Was thankful to get some sleep after that. We were both awake a little after 6:00 this morning. After a little breakfast downstairs, we got packed up and ready to get on the road. Was able to enjoy my quiet time in the car. It was a very long day for me. All that sitting makes the joints and muscles so stiff. The day became very warm too -- 83º by mid-afternoon. We stopped at Cracker Barrell in Staunton, VA, for lunch. After we ate, we went down the road to WalMart and took some time just to walk around the store and exercise the legs for a while. Arrived at Beth’s (Judy's sister’s) house around 4:45. It was good to see Beth. She seems to be doing pretty well after her fight with the brown recluse bite and also adjusting to dentures about the same time. It was good to catch up on the happenings over the past years. They have a nice big house here in WV, although very old. And like the old house we live in, many of their floors go downhill too. “50Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way…. 53So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.” John 4:50,53 April 19. Was thankful for a pretty good night’s sleep last night. It has been a fairly relaxing day, visiting with Beth and Mark, doing a little computer work, doing some crocheting. “17But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. 18Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.” John 5:17,18 |
