May 1. Mostly cloudy day and very muggy. A short rain storm this afternoon, after which the sun shone for a while. Prepared a pan of fish and enjoyed some of that with my amaranth and veggies this morning. Then I got a birthday card ready to go out for Debbie S., set up journal notes in the file to send Connie, transferred pictures to the Kodak file and fixed those. Sent photos and journal notes off to Connie. Then started shrinking Luke in the Scripture print file. Around 11:00, Daddy and I went out to Office Depot to check on prices of printers and look at computers and other sale items. Arrived back home at noon, hungry for a good dinner. Daddy warmed up his spaghetti and lima beans in the microwave; but when I went to blend up my soup, the blender wouldn’t work. We noticed that the microwave no longer worked either. We remembered that early this morning, Connie had seen sparks coming from the outlet we use for the microwave and the blender. And she reminded us that a few weeks ago, she had heard several zaps in the kitchen during a lightning storm. The microwave hadn’t really been working right since then -- sometimes too hot, sometimes not hot enough. My cup got very hot this morning when I heated the water for my lemon drink and other drinks so we knew something wasn’t right then. It wasn’t long after that when Connie saw the sparks. Apparently both outlets on that circuit have blown because nothing works in them now. And the blender and microwave are gone too. So all our cooking and warming up was done on the stove the rest of the day. It was going on 1:00 before I finally got my lunch and close to 1:30 before we went for nap. This afternoon, I swept the kitchen, took out the kitchen trash, put away the vitamins that came the other day. Then Daddy took down the kitchen curtain and the piece of screen that was on the window. Connie had cut it too small and one top corner kept coming off. I put the curtains in the wash and then washed the window before we measured and cut a new piece of screen and put it up. Did more work on Luke and then made a couple wraps for my supper. Sat outside for a while afterward, ate a small bowl of coffee ice cream, and then crocheted another star motif before coming in and doing dishes. “So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” Hebrews 13:6 I need to remember and to boldly proclaim that the Lord is my helper and that I will not be afraid of man. The “so that” refers back to the end of verse 5 which says “….for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” “How can I fear? Jesus is near.” And he will never, never, never leave me behind anywhere nor desert me. May 2. What a lovely day the Lord gave us! Clear blue skies, low humidity, comfortable temperature. First order of business this morning was to wash clothes, put clean sheets on the bed, and fold a few things left from Friday’s laundry. Then the three of us went out to Bargain Hunter’s Thrift Store, making a detour first to drop a few things off at Crossroads. When we got back to Bargain Hunter’s, we found it wouldn’t be open for another twenty minutes so came back to the house for a pit stop and drink. Back to the thrift store where we spent well over an hour looking at clothes and a few other things. Brought home a few items of clothing (25% off for seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays), a few ring binders to take to PNG, plus a couple spiral notebooks, a dictionary, some wooden blocks, and an f..g. What is that? We’ll find out next week. By the time we got home, it was too late to cook chicken so Daddy had the rest of the spaghetti for dinner (fourth day of spaghetti - :-0). Had an early nap. Afterward we got the clothes in. It was so nice out that I lingered outside in the sunshine for a while and folded some of the clothes. Wrote up the April progress report and sent that off to Pastor Ogle. Then packed/repacked some of the things we’ve been collecting to take to PNG. Have one large box nearly full. “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” Hebrews 13:8 Praise God, our Saviour never changes!

Mom has completed chapters 8 and 9 in her book, The Isles Are Singing. I think you will find these chapters a blessing and encouraging. Just click on the file below to download. File is in pdf format. A file with chapters 1 through 9 is available on the sidebar below Lewis and Judy's profile information.
April 30. Another very warm and muggy day, but not quite as warm as yesterday. Since this evening there was to be a graduation fellowship after the service, I put eggs on to boil after breakfast so we could make egg salad sandwiches this afternoon. We also had individual bags of white cheddar popcorn and a dozen chocolate chip cookies to take. In Sunday school, Mrs. Surrett finished the lesson on “Remain Faithful to Your Commitment” based on the life of Ruth. Lots of good thoughts and lessons for our individual lives. Pastor Ogle preached on “The Mount of Transfiguration”. “God wants to reveal who He is to all of us. He does so today through His word.” After church, we went by way of Blacksburg to get gas so got home a little late and had a late dinner. I also had a longer nap than I intended. I guess my body was making up for restless sleep last night and at nap time yesterday. While we were having nap, Connie got the eggs peeled. Then she mashed them and added mayo and seasonings for egg salad. Christy put the sandwiches together and cut them in half, and I wrapped each half in plastic wrap. C&C went in Christy’s car this evening and picked up Cindie. Ethan Slepitis preached this evening on Proverbs 3:5,6. It was an excellent message and really made us ponder, are we truly trusting in the LORD or not. After the graduation fellowship, Daddy and I came right home as I still had dishes to do. “28Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: 29For our God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:28,29 April 28. A very warm day today and a bit muggy. Washed and hung out clothes after breakfast, Printed out new copies of our presentation script so we won’t have to turn pages when we record. Started re-sizing the book of Mark in the Scripture print file, and finished that early this evening. Thankful for the Lord’s help in completing that all in one day. It is approximately half the size of Matthew. Later in the morning, Daddy and I went to check out the new Bargain Hunter’s thrift store. Today all their used furniture was 25% off. They had nice furniture too, and we bought an office chair to put on the front porch; but it’s a really nice chair so we gave it to Christy, and put her office chair in the living room because it is more comfortable than the other chair, and put the other chairr on the front porch. Now there is one chair for each of us to sit on outside. We also got another dictionary to take to PNG and a little stuffed dog (for 25cents) and some disposable diapers to give to “S” and “K” for their baby. We hope to go back Tuesday and check out clothes, as they give 25% off to seniors on Tuesday and Thursday. It was going on 11:30 when we got back to the house. I still had to make soup for my dinner, but it didn’t get ready in time for dinner. While soup was cooking, I had a dish of strawberries and bananas with yogurt and chopped pecans. Made a yummy nutritious green soup today -- lentils, spinach, onion and green onion, celery, zucchini, and flavors. The soup was cool enough after nap to add lemon and whipping cream. Then I enjoyed a cupful for afternoon snack and another cupful for supper. After supper, I rearranged the chairs mentioned above, swept the living room, and took the trash out. It was good to be able to sit out on the front porch for a while this evening. Hope to do that more now that the weather is warmer. Still very much burdened for the people in this neighborhood. How they need Christ and to know that He loves them and wants to deliver them from their sin! Daddy brought the phone out while I was sitting out, and I had a couple minutes to say hello to Dallas. I do so miss my kids. “For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.” Hebrews 12:6 April 29. Very, very warm last night. Removed one of the blankets from our bed before retiring. Had an extra shower last night before bed too. It didn’t dawn on me that I didn’t have any grains left for this morning’s breakfast until after I had had several morning healthy drinks and quiet time. So I put some amaranth on to cook and made myself a nice cherry smoothie to soothe the taste buds and tummy grumblings in the mean time. Then I got busy at the computer, first of all getting my May schedule set up and ready to print out, and then working on the maps for the missionary training course. I soon forgot all about eating the rest of my breakfast until about 10:00 when I started feeling sluggish and tired. Then I remembered the amaranth and fixed myself a bowlful with seaweed, almonds, and veggies. After renewing my energy with a nice bowl of grains, I made some oatmeal (oatmeal raisin) cookies for Christy and Daddy (no raisins for Christy) and then made spaghetti for Daddy’s dinner. Mary M came a little after 1:00 to pick up C & C and take them to Hannah S’s wedding shower at the Joyners’. I ran across the street to give the diapers to "K" and "S". Then I blended up soup for my lunch and cleaned up the kitchen before my nap. Didn’t really sleep at nap time. It was hot, and my head wasn’t keen on sleeping, so it was about 45 minutes of toss and turn. After I got up, I got Sunday school lesson packets ready for sending to PNG and sent a list of visuals and verses to Connie for printing, coloring, cutting as needed. The exciting part of the afternoon is that the baby robins were hatching. Later this afternoon and into early evening, I added verses and questions to another Proverbs lesson for the youth. Almost forgot to eat supper. It was already going on 6:30 before I got my supper ready. After supper, I sat outside again and did some crocheting. There is quite a gang gathering down the street for a Saturday evening party. “For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.” Hebrews 12:10 God has a very specific purpose for chastening His children. It is that He wants us to be holy. He wants us to be partakers of (to participate in, to accept and use) HIS holiness. April 26. Chilly and cloudy most of the morning, but lovely sunshine this afternoon. This morning, I made the shopping list for tomorrow. Then did some revising of animations and transitions in our presentation, and Daddy and I went through the script a couple times to try to get more familiar with it before we do the actual recording. About mid-morning, we went for a refreshing walk around the block. I was thankful that my legs and back seemed to be doing much better today which made walking a little easier than it had been recently. In the afternoon, I did some writing in The Isles Are Singing. Then did dishes before eating supper and getting ready for church. We arrived at church early so enjoyed a little time talking with Mary M before the meeting started. Also gave Christina a hug, and greeted Dale who proceeded to offer a one way ticket to PNG in exchange for my zero gravity chair. I told him it’s a deal. Also greeted Mrs. C before I finally sat down. Pastor Ogle’s teaching this evening was on Exodus 17, which he entitled, Water and War, God Is Sufficient for Both. “You must realize that there are times to simply stand still and trust and times to fight and trust.” “Is your complaining discouraging those whom God has called to serve you?” “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2 Am I looking unto (attentively considering) my Saviour who is the author and chief captain as well as the finisher (the consummator, the perfecter) of my faith? Do I endure the cross He has given me, because of the joy that is set before me, disregarding the shame or not worrying about the shame? April 27. Sunshine for a couple hours this morning before the skies began to cloud over. As soon as I had eaten breakfast and finished quiet time, we headed out to do shopping -- to Ingles first, then Aldi, and last of all WalMart. It was after 11:30 when we got home. Put away groceries and was thankful to finally sit down, enjoy dinner, and then go for nap. This afternoon, I put together an “olive garden” (gag gift) for Christy to take to her secret sister at work. I also made some herb tea and cooked some prunes. Ate supper and looked for spinach soup recipes. “3For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. 4Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.” Hebrews 12:3,4 April 24. Another rainy day, and chilly too. We are thankful for the rain as it has been much needed. We are sorry for those who have been without power, however, in places where the storms have been more severe. This morning, I got journal notes and pictures ready and sent them to Connie. She still hadn’t gotten them by afternoon so I resent them. Did some research on Celtic sea salt and sent info to Christy. Made up a vitamin order list for the end of the month. Got an anniversary card ready to mail and a birthday card ready to take to church on Wednesday evening. Then I did research on people group information to use for the missionary training program. Prepared mashed potatoes with ground beef gravy, and lima beans, for Lewis’s dinner. This afternoon, I finished reformatting the book of Matthew in the Scripture print file. ---------------------------------- Testimonies of heroes of the faith in Hebrews chapter 11: 1. Abel’s testimony - righteous, v 4 2. Enoch - pleased God, v 5 3. Noah - feared God, v 7 4. Abraham - obeyed, v 8 5. Sarah - judged God faithful, v 11 6. Isaac - foresaw things to come, v 20 7. Jacob - worshiped God, v 21 8. Joseph - believed God’s promises, v 22 9. Moses’ parents - not afraid of man, v 23 10. Moses - chose to suffer reproach, v 25-27 11. Rahab - received God’s men and God’s word, v. 31 12. many others - trusted in God’s promises whether they would live or die, believing in the resurrection to come April 25. The Lord sent us early morning sunshine which soon turned to clouds again and some drizzle. Mid-afternoon, sun tried to peek through now and then. After breakfast, Daddy went out to WalMart to get the oil changed, and I washed the clothes, put clean sheets on the bed, and did some proofreading of Lait I Kamap. Daddy brought home a lovely rose from WalMart again. Hadn’t had a rose for a long time. Thank you, “A”, and thank you, Lord. When Daddy got back, he and I hung the clothes out. Then we two and Connie headed for Kings Mountain to visit the Howards. Finished proofreading the book on the way there. Enjoyed a nice visit with the Howards before returning home for lunch. This afternoon, I got corrections made in the file for Lait I Kamap. Also changed the size of the paragraph spacing to make fewer pages in the book. Now I need to print out a good copy. After supper, I crocheted a while and then did dishes. “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us….” Hebrews 12:1 We have a great cloud of witnesses (many of them listed in chapter 11) who have run the race with patience and have gone on before us. And we, like they, should lay down everything that would hinder us, and every sin that may easily frustrate or defeat us, and run with patience the race that God has set before us. April 23. Heavy rain in he night, and a very rainy day. Started proofreading Lait I Kamap on the way to church this morning. Daddy had already been working on proofreading too. There were a number of visitors today in spite of the rain. Mrs. Surrett started the second lesson on faithfulness today, “Faithfulness to Your Commitment,” going through the story of Ruth and her commitment to Naomi. We finished half the lesson today and should finish the other half next week. When we came outside after Sunday school, the rain was really coming down and came down quite hard during church. Ellie and Rebekah played a lovely piano duet this morning. Pastor Ogle’s message this morning had to do with discipleship, based on Matthew 16:21-28. “You must realize that serving Christ is costly here, but rewarding in eternity!” Discipleship is a choice. It is about Christ, is counter-cultural (how radical are you willing to be?), and involves a cross, an exchange, and a reward. Rainy days must be good days for sleeping. I could hardly wake myself up at the end of nap time this afternoon. After I finally got up, I did a little crocheting before we went back to church. There was more rain this afternoon and evening, but no hard rain so far. Dropped the girls off at church this evening and went to pick up Kathy M. Amanda and Abigail played a piano duet this evening. Seth Greenlee, who will be graduating from ABC, was given the opportunity to preach. He spoke on Joshua chapter 1. His title was “Just Do It.” Whatever God says to do, just do it. He talked about Israel’s preparing to enter the land of Canaan, a picture of victorious Christian living. As he preached, my mind was racing with all kinds of thoughts about things to teach to the young people in Owena, or more specifically, to the young ladies. After the meeting, we took Kathy home while Christy was in her leadership training meeting. Then we came back and picked Christy up. “34For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. 35Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. 36For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. 37For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.” Hebrews 10:34-37 What matter if my enemies should take away my goods? For I have something better, in heaven, that endures. And so my confidence in God I’ll never cast away, For God has promised great reward for me on judgment day. But I have need of patience that after I have done the will of God, I might receive the recompense I’ve won. For just a little longer, perhaps this very day, He that shall come will surely come and He will not delay. April 21. An 80-some degree day. Washed clothes this morning. Spent a good amount of time fixing up the Scripture print file. After hanging out the clothes, Daddy and I went for a short, slow walk. My back and hips were just not going to cooperate today. Before and during lunch, I backed up photos and English files. That job was long overdue. Still need to back up the Pidgin files. After lunch, Daddy and I ran down to Aldi to check on a sale item we had bought yesterday but had been charged regular price for. They kindly refunded the over-payment. Then we came back and had our nap; and after nap, we brought in the clothes. The rest of the afternoon and into the evening, my time was spent finishing up the proofreading of Lait I Kamap. April 22. Slept in until 6:30 this morning. I didn’t have any cooked grain left for breakfast so started with frozen melon pudding and then ground up some kamut and cooked it. Finished the piggy scarf and bag set I had been working on for a friend. Thankful for the Lord’s help and wisdom in doing that project. Then Connie and I took a few pictures of our recent projects. After that, Daddy and I went for a walk. It was a very short walk again as my legs still aren’t carrying me without a significant amount of pain. On the way back from our walk, we stopped and talked with “V”. She said she works as a landscaper in Gastonia. Left her with an Amazing Grace tract. I almost forgot, until after 11:30, that I needed to make soup today, but was so tired that I just went and lay down for a nap. When I got up, I had a bite to eat and then got busy making the soup -- sweet potato/apple/carrot/onion/lentil soup again. That is such delicious soup! While soup was cooking, I started looking for places to buy some good Christian books. Then I had another nap before enjoying a couple cupfuls of that yummy soup. Mixed up some tuna and mayonnaise for Daddy’s supper sandwich, and then printed out a copy of Lait I Kamap so that can be proofread a couple more times. “24And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24,25 April 19. A very cool day today. Rainy most of the morning. Praise the Lord for sending rain. This morning, I used up our two over-ripe bananas and made frozen chocolate banana tofu pudding. Then I whipped up the rest of the cantaloupe and orange pieces Lazara had given us and added tofu and sugar to that to make another frozen dessert. Then it was time to sit down so time was spent on blog ideas so Connie can make some changes to our website. Just before dinner, I started on another chapter in The Isles are Singing and finished that chapter this afternoon. Before supper, I swept our bathroom, bedroom, and office floors; cleaned the bathroom sink and toilet; and did the dishes. The teaching at church this evening was from Exodus 16. “We must allow God to be God. He will be God anyway.” “When we have faith in what God’s word says, that is all we need.” “No matter how plain and simple God makes the rules, man’s rebellion takes over.” “19Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus…. 22Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.” Hebrews 10:19,22 Thank you, Lord, for the blood of Jesus; for by His blood, we have boldness to enter into your presence because the blood has made our hearts clean from an evil conscience. April 20. A very busy day, and a nice warm day. Praise the Lord for His help and strength today! Woke up a little bit later than I would have liked. Showered and washed hair. Had morning drinks, breakfast, and quiet time. Then got ready to go out shopping. Left here around 9:00, went to Aldi, then to WalMart. Arrived back home around 11:00, put away groceries, and started dinner - chicken, rice, and broccoli/carrot medley. I was excited to be able to get a picture of the robin’s nest (while mama robin was out getting food) with four pretty blue eggs in it. I couldn’t see the eggs directly, and had to stand on tippy-toes and stretch my arms way up with the camera, point the camera lens at the nest, and hope that it was properly aimed. This afternoon, I found a couple more pictures for the book Lait I Kamap and then started proofreading the text. Will proofread and make corrections before printing out a copy. Then need to print a copy and proofread again. Daddy did some research on the Joshua Project and their view of unreached people groups. They claim there are no unreached people groups in PNG, other than the Jews. We strongly disagree. They also claim that Owena is 95% evangelized. We know for sure that is not true. A little after 4:00, we left here for Scruggs house, with a quick stop at Sandy’s Christmas. It was already after 6:00 when we got home. Had supper, proofread a little more of the book. Then did the mountain of dishes that we had dirtied today. It looked like Connie and I had used every saucepan in the house when we did our cooking this morning. Daddy gave me a helping hand and dried quite a few dishes so I would have places to put the pots and pans. “And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.” I Samuel 18:4 The Lord delighted my heart through this verse this morning. Jonathan’s love for David reminded me of Christ’s love for me. Jonathan loved David and freely gave him precious gifts without asking for anything in return. Even so Christ loved me and freely gave me precious gifts. Just as Jonathan gave David his robe, his garments, his sword, his bow, and his girdle, so Christ gave me 1. a robe of righteousness, Isaiah 61:10 2. garments of salvation, Isaiah 61:10 3. the sword of the Spirit, Ephesians 6:17 4. a bow of promise, Genesis 9:13-16 5. a girdle of strength, Psalm 18:39 April 17. I guess I was really wiped out last night. It took me a while to get to sleep; but once I got to sleep, sleep was deep. Daddy woke me up out of a sound sleep and dream this morning. It took me a while to finish waking up, but needed to get up early for our trip to Charlotte. Had last night’s dishes to do before we went, as well as getting a couple things ready to eat and drink. We left here just a few minutes after 9:00. Christy didn’t have to work today so all four of us went to Charlotte. Went to TJ’s first and did our shopping. Daddy and I didn’t need much. I only had two items on the list, but we got five. :-) Didn’t take long to get what we needed, check out, and get things into the van. Then we waited (not too long) for Christy and Connie. From there we went to WalMart’s Neighborhood Market off Pineville Matthews Road. Christy and Connie walked over to Dr. Schulman’s, and Daddy and I went into the market to buy a few things. Both teams got done about the same time, and we headed home before 11:30. We were thankful to get home early, have lunch, and then nap. This afternoon, Daddy and I checked about half of Luke 24. Then I got journal notes set up in the file for Connie, took some pictures and transferred those to the computer along with some I had taken a few days ago, and sent all that off to Connie. After supper, Daddy and I went outside to stretch our legs and breathe some fresh air. We saw that Christy’s car windows were quite dirty so decided to wash those. When we finished that, we decided to wash the van windows too. So we enjoyed being outside and making the car windows shine at the same time. “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.” Hebrews 8:12 Praise God, He doesn’t remember our sins and iniquities any more! (see also Hebrews 10:17) April 18. A much cooler day today with just some light sprinkles of rain. Washed clothes first thing this morning and hung them out even though it was cloudy and rain had been predicted for mid-morning. Rain didn’t come until early afternoon, however, and clothes were nearly dry by them. Brought them in and threw them into the dryer to finish drying. Besides doing laundry, I prepared a birthday card and a thank you note. Then I cleaned up the porch chairs and set them back on the front porch. After that, Daddy and I finished up the checking of Luke. Praise the Lord, that is finally done! This afternoon, we went through the new presentation and practiced the script. I took a couple pictures of the robin on her nest in the old light fixture outside the laundry room door. And I also spent time fixing up the Scripture print file. This evening, Christy, Connie, and I went over to see “K” and “S” and their baby. We enjoyed holding the baby and visiting with "K" & "S" for a while. The baby is so tiny -- only 5 lb 7 oz at birth (a month early), but has already gained 2 lb since they brought him home this past Friday. They loved the blanket and little booties that Connie made for baby, even though the booties are a little large right now. He is very wiggly and pretty strong for such a little guy. “But this man [Jesus], after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God…. 14For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” Hebrews 10: 12,14 Christ’s offering of Himself has taken away our sins for ever. By this one offering He has made us perfect for ever. There is no other offering that needs to be made. There is nothing else that needs to be done. There is no more offering for sin (see verse 18). |
