This set of journal notes shows the happy occasion in which a man is learning to preach. Although he needs help in one area, he receives it gladly, and the other preachers work together with him, doing the work of God together. It is a happy thing. March 27. Heavy rain over night, and very foggy much of the morning. The day stayed fairly cool. The plane was scheduled to come in, bringing teachers for the community school and a couple boxes for us. But there was no plane today. The airstrip would be much too wet. Judy came early this morning, just a few minutes after 6:00, right after the generator was turned on. It was clothes washing day. We are thankful for enough little wind and sunlight to get most of the clothes dry before nap time. Only had to hang a pair of socks and two shirts inside the house. Gibson preached in lotu this morning and we could see that God has given him some ability for teaching and for translating too. We could also see that he was well-prepared and knew his material well. He did have a doctrinal problem, but very graciously received correction. Matthew sat down with him and some of the other men after the meeting and “shewed him the way of God more perfectly.” Most of my computer time today was spent working on John lessons and song sheets. Also printed out Bible verse cards for Mata to use for the ladies’ meetings and printed song sheets for “Bai Mi Wok.” Practiced keyboard a short while in the afternoon and a short while in the evening. Matthew came and worked on the roof, and we trust that we have all the leaks taken care of now. He used the tar tape that Daddy had bought in town for that purpose. Consequently, there was tar on the scissors from the tape. How would we get that off? Suddenly an idea popped into my head. Perhaps it was from the Lord. Maybe cooking oil will take the sticky off. Using a paper towel with a little cooking oil, I rubbed the scissor blades with the oil, and the tar sticky came off easily. Hmmm! I wonder if it would work to get package tape sticky off the other scissors. I’ll give it a try. It did! Now the scissors can be used for cutting paper too. Thank you, Lord, for the idea. “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing….” Romans 7:18a And how hard the flesh fights against the Spirit to gain supremacy, this I know also! March 28. More rain during the night, but not quite as hard. The ground is still very wet. Considerable fog covering this morning and only a short period of sunshine early afternoon. Still quite cool as well. After school today, the students cut up the cards of memory verses for Judy’s mother. After the students ate bananas and cucumber, Mike went home; Elias cut some of the firewood into smaller pieces for Daddy; and Judy and Anna Jean cut up veggies—a potful for soup, and a panful for our dinners the next few days. I had a snack, made the bed, talked with the students, did a couple other little jobs, and wrote yesterday’s journal notes. Then I discovered that my computer battery was all the way down to 21%. I wondered why. I had only used it about ten extra minutes after the lights went out last night. Oh, oh! I forgot to reattach the cord after carrying the computer over to the other printer and printing some documents. Hurry and plug it into the inverter. Finished up yesterday’s journal notes and then shut down the computer and turned off the inverter. It was getting close to lunch time anyway so I added seasonings to the soup pot and set that on to cook. Added salt to the other veggies and put them on to cook. Then I got out the leftovers and heated them up for lunch. This afternoon, I cut up an old, large tee shirt into smaller pieces for the two young ladies to use for cleaning windows tomorrow. (The men are going to take down the old, torn silver paper, and then I’m not sure what they’ll do after that.) Also practiced keyboard and then started on today’s journal notes. I had barely gotten started when I had an idea. Maybe we could move the other printer to this end of the desk so the USB cord would reach my computer. Then I wouldn’t have to unplug my computer and move it in order to print, and then forget so often to replug it when I bring it back to its place. So now both printers are on this end of the desk, easily accessible without moving the computer. After supper, I strained and bottle the kefir, then made some fresh; strained and bottled the boiled water; pureed and bottled the soup. Then I needed to sit down for a while so worked on a supplementary lesson on “Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus.” At 8:00, I started washing dishes and finished around 8:45. There was quite a stack of them this evening. Then I had a snack, worked more on the lesson, and then had a sponge bath. “35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:35-39 Very comforting and encouraging verses, and among my favorites.

March 25. The day started out warm and sunny. In class we went ahead and sang a song, reviewed Bible verses, and started the new Bible lesson. Afterward we had music class, first reading and discussing a new lesson. Then, with the few minutes left, we practiced “Papa God I Stap.” (A song about God the Father) Praise the Lord for giving us a good e-mail connection this morning so that Lewis was able to receive e-mails. Now I need to start writing more. After school, the students put the final coat of black paint on the chalkboard. Then they cut and ate watermelon. The men stayed afterward and cut firewood. They used for the first time the new sawhorse that Matthew made. George and his family finished making the woodcutter’s house today. The children must have played with the water valve when we were napping, because this afternoon the water was down to a trickle again. We thought for a while that someone had cut the pipeline again or that dirt had gotten into the line again. But this evening, when Daddy went outside to turn on the generator, he noticed that the water tap had been turned down. We are thankful that was all there was to the problem. I only had a little bit of time before lunch to work at the computer and used the time to start writing an e-mail to C&C. Worked on the letter a little more after lunch until nap time. After nap, I washed my hair, practiced keyboard, and made tortillas. Added a little gram dhal flower and some fennel powder to the tortillas and that really gave them a nice flavor. This evening, I printed out the very brief Owena airstrip history that Daddy had written up for the project manager to submit to the government so they can get aid for the airstrip. The project manager is an Owena man that was appointed by the Parliamentary member to serve this area. He serves the area from Pinata to Agamusi (the farthest away Awa village), finding out what needs the government can help with and reporting those needs to the member. Then I worked on writing today’s journal notes; did the dishes; strained and bottled the boiled water; refilled my container with Celtic sea salt water; printed copies of some songs. “3And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” Romans 5:3-5 We can glory in tribulations because we KNOW that tribulation does a work in our hearts to accomplish patience, which results in experience, which results in hope which makes us not to be ashamed. We need not be ashamed because the love of God is poured out, it gushes out, in our hearts by the Holy Ghost, God’s gift to us. |
