June 17. So thankful that the evening cooled down and the Lord sent a nice breeze after a hot day. After doing laundry this morning, I spent most of the rest of the morning making corrections in the Mark file and getting it set up in the printing file. Daddy worked on youth lessons and took a few minutes out to run to the post office and take Connie to the thrift store to find a lamp. After nap this afternoon, Daddy got the clothes in and we hung them up, and I finished making the bed. Around 3:30 we went over to Mel and Ellen’s to visit with them and with Ruth and Tim who had come to spend a night. We took ice cream with us, and Mel had gotten pizza and Ellen had prepared salad fixin’s. Enjoyed several hours sitting around talking. Ruthie had brought some things for C&C to add to their yard sale stuff. We dropped that off at the trailer on the way home and picked up a couple little things to bring on home. “I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.” John 17:23 Jesus wants the world to know, through our lives, that God sent Him to this world and that God loves us (His adopted children) just as He loved His own Son.

June 15. I guess we got quite a rain in a short time yesterday evening. There was 2” in the rain gauge this morning. After breakfast and quiet time this morning, Daddy and I took the gift over to our neighbors and talked with them for a while. They were very appreciative and said that they did not expect anything in return. They had been brought up learning to help others without asking for reward. We don’t know exactly where they are spiritually, but “V” and her family obviously were brought up going to church. “V” talked quite a bit about her family and their upbringing, their trust in the Lord, praying and reading the Bible. It was a good little visit with them. We couldn’t work on translation this morning because Daddy’s computer was frozen up. Connie spent quite a bit of time working on it. While Connie and Daddy were trying to get his computer straightened out, I got the progress report sent out to Pastor Ogle along with a short note, and then worked on monthly updates. Around 11:30, Daddy and I left for Gaffney to pick up C & C’s milk. Stopped afterward at Subway for lunch and then at Ingles for a few groceries. It was about 2:30 when we got home. I was ready for a nap. When we were almost home from Gaffney, Daddy received a call from Bro. Bishop about using the van to pick up children tonight. So Daddy left early (before 4:30) to take the van to the church and then help with VBS. The girls left a little bit later. It has been a quiet evening. Praise the Lord for a wonderful report so far of souls being saved -- 3 adults and 2 children on Sunday, 3 children on Monday night, and 3 on Tuesday night. Daddy had the privilege of leading a little boy to the Lord yesterday evening and one this evening. Connie dealt with a little girl yesterday evening, but she said she wasn’t ready yet to acknowledge to God that she is a sinner, even though she gave mental assent to the fact that she is a sinner. I cleaned up a pile of papers that was on my desk and got the income report updated, except for what is on the bank statement. Finished up the updates that are to be mailed, writing added notes on a few. Relaxed a few minutes and crocheted. Made some senna tea and did dishes. Now it is 9:00, and soon everyone should be home. “As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.” John 17:18 Christ was sent to bring light and life into the world, to seek and to save that which is lost. Christ sent us into the world to do the same. June 16. The day was already very warm when we got up this morning. My first job today was to print out the updates and envelopes that had been prepared yesterday. Then Connie folded them, put them in the envelopes, stamped them, and put them out for the letter carrier to pick up. But I guess she didn’t come today because the letters didn’t go out. Then I started preparing and sending the e-mail updates and answering some personal notes and letters to go with them. Daddy and I also checked over Mark 11 this morning and Mark 12 this afternoon. We are thankful for what the Lord allowed us to accomplish today. Daddy didn’t go out to VBS this evening, but C&C have gone. It is the last evening of the program. “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word….” John 17:20 People need to see Christ in our actions, but we also need to give them the word; for it is through the word that they will believe. June 13. It has been a very busy day, even though we didn’t go anywhere. I was thankful not to go anywhere too. This morning, Daddy and I went for a very short walk. I wanted to take some pictures of the flowers we saw the other day, but most of them were already going to or gone to seed. I did get a couple pictures, however, and also of one bee that was still finding nectar, but all the other bees were gone too. It was too warm to take a long walk. Then I finished a letter to Owena, including an explanation of some changes that need to be made in the Owena translation of John and I John. And later in the morning, we checked chapter 8 of Mark. This afternoon, after nap, we checked chapter 9. We are very thankful for the Lord’s help and guidance; and, Lord willing, we’ll be able to put more time in on translation this week. Daddy will need to take Connie to the dentist tomorrow; but other than that, we shouldn’t need to go anywhere. Late afternoon, I made a strawberry pie, a blueberry tart with the leftover pie dough, and spaghetti with sausage sauce for supper. Daddy and I shared the blueberry tart for dessert. C&C have gone out again this evening to work with VBS. “13And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world…. 16They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.” John 17:13,14 Thank you, Lord, for giving us Thy word, that we might have Your joy fulfilled in us. Even though the world hates us because we don’t belong to it, we can still have the joy of Jesus in our lives. June 14. 8:30 p.m. I kept hearing little sounds outside and couldn’t figure out at first what it was. Now the sounds are louder and I have no trouble telling that it is raining. Praise the Lord for rain. It has been so hot today. The air was so close, I could hardly breathe when I went out the door this evening. I hear thunder off in the distance, and there is lightning. Early this morning, when Daddy was outside, “J” came by again. We hadn’t seen him for several weeks and wondered if he were still around, but still kept praying for him. He told Daddy that he (and apparently others) thought we were some of those religious weirdos possibly referring to some men on our street who go out “singing about Jesus” at the top of their lungs, obviously high on booze or drugs. He said there is a church in the area that gets people saved and gives them beer. How disgusting and sad! “J” asked, “Can I date your daughter? ” Daddy... said that nobody dates his daughter unless he is born again. “What is ‘born again’?” he asked. A good opportunity to start planting a seed, and Daddy started explaining to him about the physical birth and spiritual birth. But shortly a young lady went walking by and “J” ran off to walk with her. Later, Daddy took Connie to the dentist. I wrote up the May progress report for Pastor Ogle and also got the monthly update written. This afternoon, Daddy and I checked Mark chapter 10. He and the girls are out this evening, helping with VBS at church. My sister called today a little after noon with… a request for prayer. And another sister called this evening and chatted a while, also requesting prayer. I had just gotten a batch of sweet rolls made up and covered to rise when she called. We hope to add the rolls to the gift basket to take to our neighbors tomorrow. “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:17 Thank you, Lord, for giving us the word of truth that we might be sanctified thereby. |
