July 7. Just a small load of laundry to do this morning so it didn’t take long to hang it out. After I wrote a thank you note to Bread of Life, I went out shopping with Daddy—to the bank, the post office, and then the mall where I looked for some things at the Dollar Tree and Burkes and didn’t find anything, and Daddy looked for shoes but didn’t find anything comfortable. Just before we left, Daddy gave a tract to an 84-year-old war veteran from Gastonia and talked with him a bit before we left. We made one more stop—at Mighty Dollar where we got some ground ginger, bread for Daddy, and a craft item. On the way home, we drove by a couple houses for sale. One looked like it would be a good place, but Christy said that sale is already pending, after just one day listed on the internet. “3And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. 4Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.” Revelation 15:3,4 July 8. Quite a busy day. Praise the Lord for a bit more energy today. Slept in until just about 6:30 this morning. Then took a shower, fixed Daddy’s pancake breakfast, had quiet time and my own breakfast, made ready a card and gift for someone special, got June progress report written, wrote several e-mails, made mashed potatoes for Daddy’s dinner, cut up a papaya, cleaned spider webs off the mailbox, folded clothes, fixed zucchini for my supper, made a lace flower for a barrette, and a few other little jobs. I was so thankful that Christy found her Kodak Easy Share CD today and I was able to get that installed in this computer too. Just wish this computer had the Microsoft Picture Manager for the finishing touches. Praise the Lord for the rain He is sending us this evening.

July 5. A short night of sleep. Constant loud bangs and whistling noises from fireworks, and a shoulder and arm that refused to rest. The pain in my left arm and shoulder finally became so intense that I had to get up and take ibuprofen. I knew there would be no sleeping without it. It was still another hour after that before I finally slept, although sleep was restless. Was thankful to be able to accomplish a bit more today. Probably the ibuprofen is still giving some relief. After quiet time and breakfast this morning, I got a couple thank you notes written and printed. Got those ready to mail, along with a birthday card for Anna Jean, and an anniversary card for the Surretts. Planned and printed out the shopping list for tomorrow. Cleaned some more books off the shelves next to our bed, packed some in an overnight case to be sent to PNG, set some aside to use before we go (perhaps), put others on the office bookshelf for Connie, and added a few others to a bag of items for the thrift store. Ate supper early and did dishes right away so we would be ready to go to church. Still had time on my hands so worked on the crocheted flag afghan for a while until time to go. Tonight we went to Bread of Life Baptist Church here in Shelby, Pastor Ed Kuykendall. We arrived there a little early and met the pastor’s mother. The pastor asked Daddy to come up and tell about our ministry. Afterward he had the church vote about taking us on for support; and, praise the Lord, that is what they did! After the meeting, I talked at length with one of the women. What a blessing to hear her testimony of salvation and how God answered the prayers of a hungry, searching heart! July 6. No noise last night. Praise the Lord for a better night’s sleep. Went out a little earlier this morning to do our weekly shopping. Stopped at Office Depot first to get a USB 2.0 4-port hub. From there to Aldi for a few groceries. Enjoyed talking about the Lord for a few minutes with a sweet Christian lady named Carolyn. Next stop was WalMart. Spent a little extra time there looking at luggage and at clearance items. Last of all we went to the discount food mart on Lafayette. We were out for about three hours all together. This afternoon, I looked at some ideas for card making. Then we tried to figure out if we could do a recording in the new computer for the presentation. It looks like it can be done best on Daddy’s computer. We had a surprise visit this afternoon from the Blue Bunny ice cream truck. It was Kevin R. He had been out toward Asheville doing deliveries and stopped here to give us some outdated boxes of ice cream sandwiches, fudgesicles and popsicles. He said to give some to our neighbors. We did take some over to Michael and Vaughn along with some of the cucumbers that were given to us by someone at church last night. The others we plan to take to the other neighbors down the street but thought we might wait until we have Kevin and family over and let Kevin go with Daddy to deliver them. (Actually ended up delivering them on Monday afternoon, the 10th.) July 3. Christy had the day off work today and will have tomorrow off too for the Fourth. However, she went in for a couple hours this morning to get some work done before kids and workers come back on Wednesday. She wanted us to come and see her work place so Daddy, Connie, and I went in a little after 9:00 and spent a little while there, having a tour of the place and taking a few pictures. My left leg was giving me a hard time again today (I noticed in my journal that last Monday was the first time that pain came up). It was quite painful to walk on, and by the time we got back home, sitting or lying down were the only options. I worked at the computer for a while, starting to get journal notes ready to send to Connie. About 11:00, I started feeling very weak so went to lie down. Fell asleep for about an hour. After getting up, I prepared broccoli to go with Daddy’s dinner (leftover goulash) and put that on to cook. Then pureed some soup for my own lunch. Finished up the journal notes, and around 2:00, went and had a second nap. Only slept about a half hour this time. After nap, I looked for my Easy Share Kodak CD so I could try to install that for editing pictures, but couldn’t find it anywhere. Looked for Christy’s, but couldn’t find hers either. Boo hoo! That was such a good photo editor. Connie and Christy helped me download a photo editor from the web, and then I tried editing some pictures. It was somewhat frustrating trying to figure out how to work it so didn’t go very far on that before giving up. Around 5:00, we left here for a 5:30 appointment to look at a house for sale in Kings Mountain. The house definitely has some needs, but is structurally sound and would be worth a small investment. We were thankful for the input and advice from others. The realtor, Linda, was very nice, and I enjoyed talking with her while everyone else was outside looking things over. As we were talking with Workmans just before leaving, a couple drops of water fell out of the sky, and in almost no time, there was a huge downpour. The Workmans had run for their car. We were already in ours. It was pouring down rain as we left KM, but after we passed under one of the bridges going into Shelby, the roads were dry. It was after 7:00 when we got home. July 4. Had two loads of laundry to do today. While the clothes were washing, I washed up a few dishes so there wouldn’t be so many this evening. Christy and Connie went out early for the Lattimore parade. Shortly after they came back, I went with them to Bargain Hunters. BH was having 50% off everything today. It was really crowded there, and they had a lot of extra workers. I didn’t find anything that I needed, other than a small bag of yarn scraps. Connie bought a buggy full of craft items, mostly glass items. I added my yarn to her basket and gave her 50 cents to pay for it. C&C found two really nice tables—a coffee table and matching end table—and bought those for their new home. When we got home, I tried again fixing photos in the photo app and in the editor C&C downloaded for me yesterday. It was nothing but frustration. After lunch, I put clean sheets on the bed and got in some clothes that were dry so Christy would have line space to hang out her clothes. After nap, I made a patriotic cheese cake. Tried to help Christy put a 3D owl puzzle together, but there were no instructions so it was pretty much impossible. Christy went and found instructions on the web and we printed them out. Then she put the owl together herself, and Daddy and I listened to last night’s message from EBC.
July 2. This morning Daddy and I left here a little after 9:00 for Gastonia to visit Zion Baptist Church, Pastor Leo Kuykendall. The ladies’ class was in the auditorium. Sister Carolyn is a sweet pastor’s wife and has a gift for making visitors feel welcome. The church is very southern, and the people very friendly. During the service, a yellow jacket was flying around in front of us. It landed on the hair of the lady in front of me, and I brushed it away. Didn’t see it any more after that. It was a little before 1:15 when we arrived back home, and C&C pulled in right behind us. After nap, Daddy practiced reading the script for our presentation as Pastor Kuykendall asked him to come back and speak this evening. He also looked through His speaking notes. We left about 4:50 in order to get there by 5:30 and get set up. When we arrived, the sound man already had a screen and a projector set up. The projector is just like ours, but come to find out, the cable hook up does not fit the new computers so we would need to have some kind of adapter to hook it up. We were sorry we weren’t able to show the pictures, as a few pictures are usually worth a thousand words. After a time of singing, Daddy was called up to speak, telling about our ministry, past and present, sharing some Scriptures, and giving a challenge. For the last fifteen minutes of Daddy’s preaching, the yellow jacket was flying around him, and he tried to ignore it. When it landed on his hand, however, he shook it off, and he didn’t see it anymore after that. After the service, however, we saw a man take a tissue and smash the critter. So that was the end of that. We are thankful it didn’t sting anybody. It was very warm in church this evening. The A/C isn’t working, but nobody seemed to mind. It wasn’t too bad in the morning, but had warmed up considerably by evening. After the pastor gave a few closing remarks, and we sang an invitation song, the pastor had everyone sit down. He said they always have a question/answer time after a missionary speaks. They spent quite a bit of time asking questions. After people had a chance to fellowship and to look at our display, and after we had pictures taken with Pastor & Mrs. Kuykendall, we went out to eat at Cracker Barrel with Pastor & Mrs. Kuykendall and another couple, Lloyd and Lisa. I told sister Carolyn that she is a wonderful pastor’s wife (which she is) and made me feel so welcome. She said she always prays that God will help her to be a good pastor’s wife, and I believe God answers her prayers and has given her a special ability to be a blessing and encouragement to visitors who come. She said their church loves missionaries, and they have missionaries come often to speak. Lisa and the other ladies were very sweet too. June 30. We were expecting storms during the night, but didn’t hear anything but light rain early this morning. It has been raining some this evening, but not too hard. Christy went in to work early this morning, just for a short time until someone showed up to fill in for her and let her come home to rest. We’re thankful that she seems to be feeling better this evening. She went in this afternoon to get her check, but will have Monday and Tuesday off for Independence Day holidays. After doing laundry this morning, much of my day was spent doing more work setting up the Lenovo. Christy helped me get e-mail addresses out of the Compaq. Daddy helped me download e-Sword from the internet. I added the cover graphics to this new journal. Made a list of countries for Connie to research for the Owena missionary training course 1, World Missions. Also finished a crocheted necklace with daisies and hope to make some other accessories to go with it. July 1. A day to relax and be refreshed. Spent a little extra time in quiet time, memorizing now Psalm 15. Made a crocheted daisy bracelet to match the necklace. Installed the printer in my computer, finished making up my July schedule and printed it out. This afternoon, I decided to make soup so I won’t have that to do on Monday along with everything else that is on the schedule. I still have a cupful of sweet tater soup left for tomorrow, but now I have a big potful of spinach/lentil/millet soup. I had been wondering what to do with the millet because it is hard to get down by itself even with meat or gravy or veggies smothering it. But I pureed a couple cupfuls of the spinach soup for tonight’s supper, and the millet was well-disguised. The soup was quite delicious. June 28. Nice cool morning. This morning, a little before 9:00, Daddy and I headed off for Office Depot with my computer. Jeremy looked at it right away as soon as he came in to work and had no trouble discerning that the hard drive was done for. Then he took us over to look at new computers and we chose this Lenovo. After leaving Office Depot, we went and did our Aldi shopping so we wouldn’t have to do that tomorrow as we have other places we need to go tomorrow. We were gone about two hours. The rest of the day was spent getting the Lenovo set up. I also had dishes to do in the afternoon since we were to go out to church in the evening. I wasn’t sure whether I would go to church or not as my body was in so much pain by late afternoon, but didn’t really want to stay home so went anyway. Made sure I took a warmer jacket to wear inside as my body hurts a lot more if I get cold. Prayed with Sarah C and Lisa this evening. Pastor Ogle didn’t want to start something new from Exodus for his preaching so preached a message on “Love” (How to Love Others) It was a really good message. What rewards does God give to those who overcome, to those who win the victory? One, the privilege of eating of the tree of life. Two, not being hurt of the second death. Three, the privilege of eating of the hidden manna Four, a white stone with a new name written in it Five, power over the nations Six, the morning star Seven, the honor of being clothed in white raiment Eight, name not blotted out of the book of life Nine, name confessed before the Father and the angels Ten, to be made a pillar in the temple of my God Eleven, to have my God’s new name, the name of my God’s city, and Jesus’ new name written upon us. Twelve, “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.” Revelation 3:21 June 29. The weather was warmer today, but still not too humid. Thunder storms are predicted for tonight and all day tomorrow, however. Today was shopping day. I am thankful that we did Aldi shopping yesterday because we were out most of the morning as it was. Left here a little before 9:00 and didn’t get home until a little after 12:00. Went first to Hobby Lobby and bought some ribbon. Looked at frames too, but didn’t buy any. We were going to go to Dollar Tree and GNC next, but remembered that the mall doesn’t open until 10:00 so went to Big Lots first, and Dollar Tree and GNC afterward. Daddy let me off at the door at WalMart and went to park the car. I found myself a cart and started the shopping, and Daddy went to the money center to pay the rent. I had finished the produce shopping when he caught up to me. We finished the rest of the shopping together, and I was thankful to find a nice, affordable photo frame at WalMart too. It is now displaying the pansies in longstitch. (See photo above) This afternoon, we were able to get e-mail set up in the new computer, transfer a few of my files into it, and get Microsoft office set up. I still need to try to get e-mail addresses off the old computer and get a Bible program set up in here, and probably do a few other things. Poor Christy came home from work sick today. A lot of sickness is going around, including intestinal flu, and who knows what this virus is that Connie and I have been trying to deal with. “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” Revelation 4:11 One of my favorite verses. Truly the Lord is worthy. Worthy of glory (honour, praise, worship). Worthy of honour (esteem of the highest degree; considered to be of great value or price, precious). Worthy of power (miraculous power, strength, mighty wonderful works). June 26. Woke up this morning with painful lower leg which made walking somewhat difficult. Was thankful that the pain lessened as the day went on, and the lameness subsided as well. Left arm was also in pain, making crocheting a painful project. Even typing on this keyboard increases pain in the left arm. Having discomfort in left eye and left side of face as well. Headache, which I’ve had for a week now, continues in forehead area and has now moved on to back of head too. What strange new kind of illness is this??? Off to Charlotte before 9:00 this morning. Lots of traffic today. TJ’s first. My treat today was a pint of Humboldt organic coffee chip ice cream. Next stop was Neighborhood WalMart. On the way into the store, I said hello to a Hispanic man who was standing outside with his phone. Connie and I spent about ten minutes in there before having to head over to Dr. Schulman’s office. Daddy finished buying a few items and checked out. When we went back outside, the Hispanic man was still there, now sitting by the wall. I looked in my purse for a Spanish tract but didn’t have one. We stopped at the car to get something Connie needed and then headed toward Dr. Schulman’s. Then I remembered that I had some tracts in my crochet bag and maybe there was a Spanish tract in there. So we headed back to the car. Sure enough. Just one though. Headed back over toward the store with the tract and asked the man if he would like something to read. His English was very broken, but he seemed happy to receive the tract. Then we headed on our way again. There was a WM worker sitting outside, for a break, I guess. We said hello and walked on by, but then I thought, Maybe he would like something to read too. So picked a tract out of my purse and turned back to give it to him. He too was grateful. Said he was a Christian, but it is hard to talk to other people because of how people treat you. Talked with him just a little bit and tried to encourage him, but then had to head on for Connie’s appointment. May the Lord use His word to work in hearts. After leaving Dr. Schulman’s, we headed home via Pilot/Flying J in Blacksburg, for gas and for Daddy’s favorite coffee. I hadn’t taken anything with me to eat for lunch so was getting pretty hungry by this time. It was after 1:00 when we finally got home. Got groceries put away and then had lunch. Daddy went off to Subway to get his lunch. What rewards does God give to those who overcome, to those who win the victory? One, the privilege of eating of the tree of life. Two, not being hurt of the second death. Three, the privilege of eating of the hidden manna Four, a white stone with a new name written in it Five, power over the nations Six, the morning star Seven, eight, and nine: “5He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. 6He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” Revelation 3:5,6 June 27. The Lord gave us such a lovely day. Even though the temperature was in the upper 70’s, the humidity was low. We had the air on in the office because that room is really stuffy, but didn’t have to run the air in the bedroom today. It was a very pleasant day for hanging out laundry too. And what a busy day! After breakfast, quiet time, and doing the laundry, I wrote a note to April and got it out in the mail along with an anniversary card and a newsletter. While all that was going on, Connie was trying to find out what the problem is with my computer which is pretty much locked up—wouldn’t open any files, wouldn’t shut down, wouldn’t do anything. It was so frustrating. I finally was able to copy my recipe file and print out my sweet tater soup recipe as it was soup-making day. (Actually yesterday was soup-making day, but we were gone all morning.) The time was getting late before I finally got started on the soup. Hurried a bit because I needed to cook chicken and rice for Daddy’s dinner too. Praise the Lord for His help in completing those two projects and even being able to eat lunch before 12:30. While dinner was cooking, I backed up all the files I’ve been using recently (had just backed up everything a week or so ago so only needed to do a few things today). This afternoon, I was ready for a get-out-of-the-house break so Daddy and I went to a couple thrift stores. Didn’t really find much—a roll of ribbon, a tablecloth, and a book. It was going on 5:00 when we got home so after I finished making the bed (had changed the sheets today), I fixed and ate supper. What rewards does God give to those who overcome, to those who win the victory? One, the privilege of eating of the tree of life. Two, not being hurt of the second death. Three, the privilege of eating of the hidden manna Four, a white stone with a new name written in it Five, power over the nations Six, the morning star Seven, the honor of being clothed in white raiment Eight, name not blotted out of the book of life Nine, name confessed before the Father and the angels Ten and eleven, “12Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. 13He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” Revelation 3:12,13 |
