May 29. The Lord sent more rain during the night, and it was raining lightly early this morning when we got up to get the clothes ready to wash. After the fog lifted, however, the Lord sent sunshine and a nice day for drying clothes. We thank the Lord that He is gracious. Lotu was somewhat late (not unusual), and I even had time after my quiet time to work at the computer and finish the English lesson I had been working on the past couple days. All of math class was spent just teaching how to divide by two digits. In English class, each one read their “How to” story, and then we started the lesson on sentences and sentence fragments. In science, we went over the study exercises together and then they started studying for the quiz on the last section of unit 1. At the end of school, they took down the science display from the bulletin board and posted their stories in its place. Mata had brought some bananas while school was in session, but there were too many to keep all of them. So before the students went home, Judy went and got a machete from her house, and one of the men cut the banana stalk in half and Dallas helped hang it up. Everyone left then, except for Judy who stayed to prepare some greens for our supper. While Judy was preparing the greens, I transferred the airplane pictures to the computer and edited them. When Judy was done, she took the leftover greens (we had too many), the other half of the stalk of bananas, and her machete, and went home. And Daddy and I had our nap. This afternoon I washed my hair and spent most of the rest of the time on tomorrow’s lesson plans. This evening, I checked over I Peter 2, photocopied science tests, printed out a list of things the students need to study for the test, printed copies of ladies’ meeting lessons for Apekio, read Connie’s e-mail, put the words to “Nothing But the Blood” in a file and transferred that file to a flash drive and then to the Lenovo where I copied the words onto the music sheet. “A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1 Like Psalm 23, Psalm 27 begins with “The LORD is….” The LORD (the self-Existent, eternal Jehovah God) is my light and my salvation…, the strength of my life…. The LORD is (now, present tense, not will be, not may be, not perhaps; but constantly) my light and my salvation…, the strength of my life…. The LORD is my (belonging to me, my very own) light and my salvation…, the strength of my life…. The LORD is my light (He supplies me with illumination, joy, happiness, brightness, splendor) and my salvation…, the strength of my life…. The LORD is my light and my salvation (liberty, deliverance, prosperity, safety)…, the strength of my life…. The LORD is my light and my salvation…., the strength (fortified place, defence, rock, stronghold) of my life…. He is all that and more. What more could I desire? Whom shall I fear? Of whom shall I be afraid? May 30. In the low 50’s this morning, but the Lord gave us a beautiful, mostly cloudless day. Today’s duties, other than teaching school and doing kitchen duty and other household duties, included making a Bible quiz and starting a new Bible lesson, reorganizing leadership lessons and setting up accompanying Bible verses, and developing an English worksheet to go with lesson 1. Also printed out the Bible verses for the leadership meetings, “Nothing But the Blood” in English (on the back side of our Pidgin copies), and the English worksheets. “One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.” Psalm 27:4 Something wonderful to be desired.

May 27. The Lord gave us a beautiful morning. Mike came bright and early to start cutting grass before school. We all enjoyed going outside at recess time to soak in the warmth of the sunshine. We went a bit beyond our recess time, however, so that stretched school out about fifteen minutes longer. After school, Mike finished cutting the grass, and Dallas cut up some firewood into small pieces for kindling. While they were working, I cleaned the chalkboard, worked on lesson plans for math, and put some division problems on the chalkboard. Then Daddy and I had nap. This afternoon, I finished lesson plans and got the student copy of the new Bible lesson set up so it would be ready for printing this evening. In the evening, I made another supplementary math lesson, and printed out both teacher’s and students’ Bible lessons, leadership lessons for the church leaders, and speed tests for math class. Then I started working on a supplementary English lesson on present tense verbs. “To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.” I Thessalonians 3:13 God’s goal is to steadfastly set our hearts so that they are irreproachable in holiness before Him at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Surely we must be striving toward that goal now, or we will not be such at Christ’s coming. May 28. A partly cloudy, partly sunny day. Rain in the evening. We thank the Lord for both the sunshine and the rain. Both come from His good hand upon us. MAF made their first landing here today with the new airplane. The trainer pilot made the landing. The students, of course, all wanted to go up and see the airplane, which I was obliged to let them do. They had all finished their math lesson (except for Mike, who stayed and finished before going up), and the two young ladies had already finished their English lesson as well. I went outside to get some sunshine while everyone was gone. Took the camera out, hoping to get a picture when the plane took off. Didn’t think to send it up to the airstrip with Daddy. But then while I was out there, Daddy sent Dallas back down to get the empty gas bottle. So I gave Dallas the camera, and he put it in his pocket and took it up and got a few pictures. When the students returned, the two young ladies waited while Elias and Mike finished their English lesson—writing a “How to…” story. I commended the young ladies for being patient and told them they were learning the virtue of patience. When Mike was done, we had science class. This afternoon and evening, I worked on lesson plans for tomorrow, and a math lesson, science quiz, and English lesson in the computer. Also printed out copies of the math lesson and quiz. Then worked on the English lesson that I started yesterday. |
