July 3. Wednesday. Laundry day. The sun doesn’t come up until late these days so it was still somewhat dark when Bonita came to do the laundry. Our little corner of the world was all closed in with fog too so that made it a little darker. The fog didn’t lift until after 11:00. Dallas had charge of lotu this morning, including preaching. It was the first time we have heard him preach, and he did a good job. After the meeting, the men were talking about a report they’d heard about the meetings at Rambo Baptist. They said that three people from here have gotten saved—Amanda, Apekio’s younger brother Rex, and one of Neomi’s children. They said there is no interpreter for the meetings, however, and they are all in English. We heard from Javin this evening, that the pastor of Rambo interpreted the main points and apparently the salvation points and invitation; but otherwise they have no one to interpret. (This emphasizes how important it is to use an interpreter. It makes preaching longer; but, no matter how good the message is, it doesn’t help those who don’t understand it. Pray for missionaries (especially short term missionaries) that they will have interpreters available to them wherever they go to minister. It makes the work much easier and helps them to minister more effectively.) Around 9:00, we started school and finished around 12:15. Then we had our dinner and afterward got the clothes in. I couldn’t look up to get the clothes down, because the sunlight is causing great trouble to my left eye. But I did want to get a little sunshine. After hanging up the dry shirts and things in the closet, we had our nap. And this afternoon, I completed lesson plans, and then spent a good bit of time rearranging the classroom so the light from the north window won’t shine in my left eye which is the one that is giving me trouble. Then it was supper time. Had a few minutes to work at the computer while the dish water was heating. Before I finished the dishes, Apekio and Ema came with some kaukau and sat and talked for a while. After they left, I printed out the volume 2 discipleship booklet for Daddy to use in preaching, and printed an extra copy of the next Sunday school lesson for Mike to give to someone else who can be prepared to teach in case Mike is not feeling well. After that I had a bath and then had a snack. “1To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah….10Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. 11The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.” Psalm 46:1-3 & 10,11 No matter what happens, there’s no need to fear, God’s our refuge, our strength, and our help very near; Though the earth be removed, mountains all disappear, Waters roar, mountains shake with a swelling severe, We can be still, knowing God’s with us here, He our sure Refuge gives hope, peace, and cheer. July 4. American Independence Day, and the birthday of one of my special sisters. The weather started out the same as it has been for most of this past week—completely closed in with fog most of the morning. The Lord gave us some nice sunshine this afternoon; but the clouds are building back up this evening, and there is rain across the river. When I went to class this morning, I explained to the students why the room was rearranged, and I asked them to pray for me. I was thankful for how much the rearrangement helped. SIL came in today to take passengers out, and Daddy went up to the airstrip to talk to the pilot. He was hoping the pilot might have a note for us from store shipping, too, saying that our cargo was ready; but the pilot said that shipping has a lot to do yet, and he is waiting for cargo to be released for him too. (Please pray for Mom and Dad to be able to get their cargo soon. There are some things in it that they really need. Thanks!) After school, Judy and Anna Jean stayed to prepare veggies for us. Judy sorted, washed, and cut up greens, and also cut up an onion to go with them. That went into the small pressure cooker to be cooked for supper. Anna Jean peeled and cut up a pumpkin, and that went into the big pressure cooker. Later, I added lentils, onions, lots of water, and seasonings and put that on to cook. Will blend it all up tomorrow for a nice smooth soup. This afternoon, I wrote an e-mail to C&C. Had written two other e-mails this morning while the students were doing their math. This evening, I finally finished up the music lesson for Monday and also got the student copy made. Daddy sent and received e-mails, and there was an e-mail from SIL shipping letting us know that our cargo was ready for pick up. Praise the Lord! (It is “ready,” but they still haven’t been able to pick it up yet. Please keep praying about that. Thanks!) “6Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises. 7For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.” Psalm 47:6,7 Therefore we shall sing because God the King is worthy of our praise.

July 1. The night was warm, and the day-time temperatures were just right. This morning, Daddy cut scrap pieces of plywood into even-width pieces to make trim along the back of the kitchen shelf and behind the sink. Now the kitchen wall is ready to be painted. I helped him in between checking on my students. They had independent work to do in math and English so I was free most of that time. Nap was late because the students stayed beyond the end of class time to finish up their history lesson. After nap, I cleaned the chalkboard and finished tomorrow’s lesson plans. Then I reformatted volume 2 of the “Kamap Bikpela” books (discipleship books). So that is now ready to print on the A4 paper. Daddy will need that soon, after he finishes teaching through volume 1. After supper, I gathered up the trash and took it out and burned it. When I came back in, I put dish water on to heat and set up a new journal in the computer while the water was heating. Put bath water on to heat while the dishes were being washed. Bath water was ready when I finished dishes, and I enjoyed a warm, refreshing bath. After bath, I proofread the new Bible lesson and then made the student copy. So they are now ready to print. July 2. Very foggy almost all morning. Heard loud thunder and a little rain during the night. Raining this evening. At 8:00, Judy was the only one here for school. But then I saw Elias and Mike hurrying up the path so we waited a couple minutes for them. Then I had Elias pray and we started memorizing I John 2:4 in English. In music class, we reviewed what they learned in yesterday’s lesson, reviewed with the flash cards, and then did some singing. They are practicing “Olgeta Promis” and “Olgeta Promis Em I Tru” to sing as a special on Sunday. They finished up their math lesson, and then we went back a few lessons to learn to do division with three-digit divisors. We had skipped that part earlier, as they had not even learned division with two-digit divisors in the community school. Now they have a good handle on two-digit divisors and easily picked up the three. While they were finishing up their math, I scrubbed up the kaukau and got it ready to peel and slice. After they got started on their written English lesson, I went back and peeled and cut up the kaukau and put it on to cook. Also made a ground beef gravy to go on the kaukau, and there were leftover greens. The students finished their Englilsh a little bit early so I had them go right into their history lesson which was just reading and writing down definitions today. While they were doing that, Daddy and I had our dinner. After school, Judy filled the washing machine so she can wash clothes early tomorrow morning. Then Daddy and I had our nap. This afternoon, there was more kitchen work to do. Washed and cut up a popo for making popo crisp. Had to wash out a pan too as the pan I needed had been used for cooking kaukau. Set some popo aside in the fridge to be eaten fresh. Then I fixed myself a little fruit snack and went to the schoolroom to prepare tomorrow’s lesson plans while I ate my snack. Had a few minutes before supper to start working on a music lesson for next week, but just couldn’t come up with what to teach next. There is a lot more we could do if the keyboard were working. After eating supper and washing dishes, I wrote a couple e-mails. Looked through past music lessons to get some ideas for the next music class, and finally came up with something to start with. |
