July 7. Another beautiful day. A much quieter morning. Praise the Lord for a little lull in the midst of much to-do. About mid-morning, Daddy and I enjoyed an easy stroll up the airstrip and back. It was so good to get out in the sunshine for exercise again. (While Daddy was gone to town, I was only able to get out around the house.) The rest of the morning was spent on the Revelation study which I finished up this afternoon. Proofread it and then had Daddy proofread it. Blew it up and proofread it again this evening and then got it put on a flash drive to send to Connie. Around noon, Wilson brought a pastor from Henganofi to visit with us, along with a preacher and another man who had come to the meetings. Wilson stays with the pastor when he is at school or whatever he is doing in town. We thought he finished twelfth grade already, but don’t know for sure. So we had a little bit late dinner and then our nap shortly afterward. After completing the Revelation study this afternoon, I decided to paint a while so worked on the painting on the side of the tall cupboard. Then I started making tortillas as I had finished the last of the others yesterday evening. I had just started cooking them, and Daddy had prayed and we started supper, when five more ladies came to meet us and visit for a while. One of them, sister Junis, is a pastor’s wife who came to see us yesterday, but came again with the other ladies. There were two other pastor’s wives with the group, and two other ladies. I turned off the burners under the tortillas and the ladies spent about a half hour with us so once again we had a late supper. Finished cooking the rest of the tortillas while we were eating. Then did the dishes. Thankful that there were only a few this evening. Later I enjoyed working more on the painting. “And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp, afar off from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came to pass, that every one which sought the LORD went out unto the tabernacle of the congregation, which was without the camp.” (Exodus 33:7) Let us meet with God apart from the cares of this life and of the world. God is separate from sinners, and all those who sincerely seek Him should come out from among the unsaved and be separate, communing with our Saviour “without the camp.” “Without the camp” is the place of sweet communion with God and His Son Jesus Christ, the place of separation, the place of sacrifice, the place of sanctification, the place of suffering, the place of sharing the shame and reproach which our Saviour bore. July 8. The final day of the special meetings. This morning, Pastor Endru brought three young men to meet us — Bible school students from a church somewhere near Aiyura. They didn’t have money for camp fees so have been staying with Pastor Endru. SIL came in this morning to pick up the guest speakers and others who had come on the plane. Oh, oh! Wrong day. Had Nuanda given the wrong date, or had the workers at the hangar written down the wrong date? Daddy went up to see the pilot. It was Steve G. He said he is the only SIL pilot right now who can fly in here. It was about mid-morning before I finished breakfast and quiet time. Then I found some treasures in the study of Exodus too. How thankful I am for God’s word! And how I pray that we can soon have the Scriptures printed for the PNG people. Worked for a while on the progress report. Helped Daddy take care of the couple dozen phones that came into our hands. Went outside for a little stretch. Started getting carrots ready for dinner when Pastor Rex Okena came with Ben to visit. He had a genuine heart for American and Australian missionaries. He knows that if the Japanese had won the war, this country never would have had the gospel. He is concerned about PNG’s relationship with China, that it could stifle the preaching of the gospel. Dinner was a little bit late again today, but not as late as the past couple days. Worked more on the progress report this afternoon. This evening, Mike came by with the children for a bit. He gave a little bit of report of how things are going. “And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.” (Exodus 33:11) Moses was a friend of God. Because he believed God and was obedient to Him, God spoke to him face to face. Praise the Lord for this one Friend (Jesus) who sticks closer than a brother. “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” (Proverbs 18:24)

July 5. Praise the Lord for a warm night, and another fog-free, beautiful, clear day. As I expected, the morning was very busy. I was thankful that I went to bed early and awakened early so that I could get an early start. Started washing clothes right away. It was 8:30 before I was finally able to eat breakfast — so many people coming and going. Even though I started wash early, it was around 9:00 before I was able to start hanging them out. 10:00 came and went, and I wondered why Daddy hadn’t called so I finally called him. He had tried off and on to call, he said, but couldn’t get through. So I was glad I finally called him. Glenys was back from Moresby, and they were getting the plane ready to load up for Daddy’s flight. Sister Felly came by again. She wanted to find out for sure if we could photocopy papers for her. She also wanted to report how things were going so far. She said all the Baptist churches here got together and brought bananas and lots of other food to them last night. More food than they could eat. She talked for a long time too. Later in the morning, Sunny came along and cut the weed flowers off the ground cover leaves. Then she came in and practiced keyboard until the plane came. I was happy for her company. Not long after that, the plane arrived at last. It was 11:30. I think this has been the most stressful week and a half I’ve ever had. Sister Felly, what a blessing, certainly has a servant’s heart. She was at the plane when Daddy came and carried two boxes of cargo down to the house. We had the leftover meat and veggie medley for dinner, but I had made a gravy to go on it. Then I put away the freezer and fridge foods, but that was all I felt like doing before nap. The afternoon was very hot again, and I didn't really sleep at nap time though I was very tired. But at least I rested. Afterward, we finished unpacking boxes and putting away the rest of the food and other supplies. People continued to come and go bringing and getting phones and getting things they had Daddy buy for them in town. We didn’t do much of anything in the evening, except for the regular routine of washing dishes, having bath, eating snack, and still answering door. We were both too tired to concentrate on any computer work. July 6. I forgot all about writing in my journal on this day (so much going on) so am trying to remember now the events of the day. Don’t know if I’ll get them all. Very busy in the morning again interacting with people who came to the door. Nendisa came for a while to help at the door, but we didn't realize there was going to be a meeting at this time so we apologized for that and did not ask her to come back tomorrow. While she was here, I had to take time to make name tags for the phones that didn’t have them and to give her some instructions about how to set up the phones for charging. It was her first time helping us out in this way. She also returned phones to those who had left them over night. The bed needed to be made, and there was yesterday’s laundry to be folded and put away. A large bunch of greens was waiting to be sorted, washed, cut up with some onion, and cooked for dinner. This was finally accomplished after many interruptions. There were several visiting ladies who came to meet and greet us. I also cooked spaghetti and prepared meat sauce for dinner. My share of meat sauce was enjoyed on half a toasted whole wheat bun (it became a sloppy joe). It was late before we got to eat and, therefore, late when we went to nap. After nap, time was again spent visiting with people who came to the door. Felly came with her notes which I photocopied; and, since Sunny was here, I taught her how to collate and staple them. She had a little time off from her work at the church so helped answer the door for a while. But then she had to go back to work in the kitchen. People still kept coming and going until after 6:00 so we had a late supper. By the time we were done with dishes and bath, it was already going on 9:00. So we had a late snack, too, and just a few minutes left to work at the computer. I did somehow manage to get some writing done on a Revelation study, which I always enjoy so much. God’s word is so rich. Well, that’s all I can remember of this day’s events. |
