October 7. We were ready a little earlier than usual to head for the girls’ house this morning. That was fine, as it gave me time to make a smoothie before the first meeting started. Pastor started a series on Revelation. Introductory material to prophecy. Purposes of prophecy: 1) I Thessalonians 4:13-18—it is a comfort. 2) I John 2:28; II Peter 3:11—for the preparation of the saved. 3) II Peter 3:10—a warning to those who are not ready. 4) Titus 2:13—a hope for us. We believe the next event on God’s calendar is the rapture of the church. Following that is the seven-year tribulation. We do not believe that we will go through even part of the tribulation. The rapture is the first part of the Lord’s second coming. The second coming is His revelation. That is followed by the millennium and then the Great White Throne judgment. Two-thirds of the book of Revelation references Old Testament scriptures. We look at the entire book because of who Jesus was, is, and will be; and we must submit to Him as King of kings and Lord of lords. Chapter 1 verse 1: the purpose of the book. This book reveals truth relevant to every important fundamental of Christianity. The primary intent of the book is to prepare the way for the second coming of Jesus Christ. He revealed it to John to show His servants what is going to happen. The person of the book: chapter 1 verse 2,4-8,11,17-18—Jesus Christ. Christ is not coming as Redeemer in the book of Revelation; He is coming to execute wrath. We will see Christ as the glorified One. In between meetings, I peeled and cut up potatoes, put them in a saucepan, and covered them with water so they would be ready to start cooking later. I also put the chicken in a baking dish and seasoned it so that would be ready to pop into the oven. Then I walked and prayed and also had a little time to do crocheting. In the second meeting, Pastor continued his teaching from II Peter. II Peter 1:1-4, We have everything we need to live a life of godliness. 1) We have a precious faith. Faith is the basis of our salvation. We have the privilege of knowing the God of the universe. We have obtained like precious faith through the righteousness of God. 2) We are proxies of the Father. He has left us here so that we may speak on His behalf. It is through His will, not our own. 3) We have the power for flourishing. God’s divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness. It is His own power. He is the source of the power as well as the power. The power that created the universe is the power that is available to us, through the knowledge of Him. How well do I know God? 4) We have the promises of the Father. These are precious promises, valuable ones. By these, we can be partakers of the divine nature. We are to be like God; we are to be godly. Are you using the resources that God has given you? After the meeting, I put the potatoes on to cook. While they were cooking, I listened to hymns online and did a little more crocheting. When they were done, I mashed them and set them back on the stove. Turned off the oven, too, because the chicken was already done. When Daddy was done eating, we packed up our things and came home. Garry was outside and came over and chatted with us for a few minutes. Then we came inside and got ready for nap. After nap, I had a bowl of ice cream and then painted for a couple hours before having supper. Message by Pastor Weiss this evening, Hebrews 12:14, Pitfalls of the Christian Life. Is your Christian life authentic? Follow means to pursue as an object of desire, to endeavor to obtain. Follow peace. Follow holiness. See Ezekiel 22:26 for a definition of holiness. Positionally I am holy, but I am to live like I am holy. I have a relationship in which I am now separated from “common” things. We are to live out our separation. (He didn’t get to the pitfalls; only finished the introduction.) I also worked on the crocheted doily for a while this evening and then started a fall crochet project since I can’t work on the snowman until I get more of the right kind of yarn. “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:14
