May 3. A very long, tiring day. Daddy and I left the house a little before 9:00 and headed for Sears in Hickory. Our eye exams were scheduled for 10:30 and 10:45. Since we arrived early, we looked around at small kitchen appliances downstairs and then at eyeglass frames in the optometrist office until time for our exams. When we were done with eye exams and purchasing frames, we went back downstairs and bought a blender that was on sale. Now, I thought, here is something that will do a better job in blending up my soup. Got a picture of the robin babies. They are four days old today. From Sears, we headed up the road to Ollies. Went the wrong direction, however, so had to come back and go the other way. Looked around for quite a while there, but only purchased a few small food items. Then we tried to find a thrift store that Daddy had written down directions for but had left home. Couldn’t find that so finally went to Golden Corral and had lunch. It was a little after 2:00 by then. Headed right home after lunch, and didn’t get home until after 4:00. Put things away and had a nap. Then it was time to try out the blender. We did our best to follow instructions for assembly, but try as we may, the jug nut would not lock into the base. We were afraid to use it so loose and wobbly. Packed it back up to look into later. Got out the old leaky one speed slow blender and blended my soup. Hurried and heated it up and got ready for church and drank my soup on the way. Pastor Ogle taught on Exodus 18 this evening - A Better Way to Lead. “Leadership is learning from and leaning on others.” Enjoyed talking with Mary M a few minutes before the meeting. Sarah C said that she was able to take her finals at Ambassador. Praise the Lord for answered prayer! Talked a little with Lazara and Regina after the meeting. Regina has sold her house and will be moving to New Mexico to be near her daughter that lives there. Josh will be moving to Georgia to attend a tech school. Was also able to chat with Mrs. C a bit while we were waiting for Christy. And then give Abigail a hug as she was leaving. She’ll be heading for New Zealand this Friday to spend some time with her parents before going to Nova Scotia to work as a counselor at a Bible Camp. After we got home, there were still dishes to do; and by the time that was done, it was bed time for sure. “15By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. 16But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” Hebrews 13:15,16 Along with the living sacrifice of our bodies, God requires these sacrifices - thanksgiving, doing good, and sharing a part in others’ needs. May 4. Another busy day - shopping day. After I made the shopping list, we headed out to Aldi. It was somewhere around 9:00. Made a stop at Office Max first to see how long the sale lasts on the Epson printer. Sale goes through Saturday. Aldi was next and then on up to Sears Hometown to see if the owner there knew anything about the blender. No, that definitely wasn’t in his line of knowledge. On our way to Sears, we saw that there was only one lane of traffic coming from 74 east toward WalMart, and traffic was backed up almost all the way to Sears. At first we thought, “Oh, no, it will take forever to get back to WalMart.” But then we thought, “No problem. We can just cut across to Earl Road and come down that way.” So that’s what we did. Did our shopping at WalMart, and arrived home a little after 11:30. Put away food and then had lunch and nap. Busy in the kitchen this afternoon - made herb tea; washed up a couple containers of strawberries and a container of blueberries; cooked chicken and made gravy for it for tomorrow’s dinner; made pizza for supper. Decided to wait until tomorrow to make a new pot of soup. Today has been full enough. “20Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” Hebrews 13:20,21 In verses 15,16, the Lord showed us some sacrifices with which he is well-pleased. In these verses here I see that it is through the work of Jesus Christ and the blood of the everlasting covenant that God Himself is the one who works in us those things that are well-pleasing in His sight. It is through Jesus Christ and not through our own flesh that we are able to offer to Him these sacrifices.
