September 1. Washed a load of clothes early this morning before the CRMF staff came to work. Kept busy packing most of the rest of the day, getting ready for our flight back home tomorrow. Mike reported to Daddy this morning that there are five who have expressed the desire to take the missionary training course. I was thankful to be able to get the monthly update written this afternoon and both e-mails ready and sent out this evening to C&C. After I did dishes, we listened to Sunday afternoon’s service from VBC. September 2. Thursday. Day to come home. Thank you, Lord. The computer did not even get turned on today so these journal notes are being written from memory. What’s remembered is written, and what isn’t, isn’t. We were thankful that we didn’t have to rush to get ready for an early flight. But we did keep busy from the time we got up until time to head for the hangar. Beds had to be stripped, last minute things packed, freezer and fridge items packed, dishes washed and dried and put away. We were to be at the hangar between 9:00 and 10:00 to get everything weighed up. Flight would not be until after 11:00. It was around 9:30 when we left for the hangar. It didn’t take long to weigh up. (Most of our cargo had been taken to the hangar a couple days ago and was already ready.) The plane was in Marawaka and would be going to Boyco before returning to Goroka. We had about an hour to kill so went uptown to Papindo café so Daddy could get a cup of coffee and a piece of mud cake. (It took us over twenty minutes to get there — wondered why the traffic was so heavy!) By the time we were heading back to the hangar, the traffic had thinned out. We still had to wait a half hour or so for the plane to get back. The winds were too bad in Boyco so Glenys couldn’t land there. Instead, she went to Owena and picked up coffee. It was going on 11:30 when she arrived back in Goroka, and it was a little after noon when we were finally air-bound for Owena. It was a lovely day, except for the wind. We hit all the potholes along the air path and bounced and jounced up and down like a basketball. The winds did not look favorable either when we arrived in Owena. I really expected Glenys to turn around and head back to Goroka. She circled once and aborted because there was a strong crosswind. As she circled again, I kept praying for the Lord to calm the winds, for “even the winds and the sea obey Him.” This time as she approached the airstrip for a landing, I noticed that the windsock was hanging limp. Praise the Lord! The landing was very rough due to strip conditions. The weather has been very dry, and the ground is parched and cracked. Thank you, Lord, for helping Glenys to land safely. When she took off later, the winds began blowing hard again; but the Lord kept her safe and kept the plane on course. I headed down to the house shortly after disembarking, thankful to be back home. The house was dirty from dust and ashes blown in by the wind, and from cockroaches making themselves at home. Daddy came down shortly after I did. We got the freezer and fridge food put away and then sat down for our dinner. It was already 1:30. Sunny and Judy brought in the cargo that people carried down, and gave out the chocolate wafers to the carriers. Judy swept the floor, and Sunny stayed on to look after the door while we had our dinner and put a few other things away before getting ready for nap. It was going on 3:00 before we lay down to rest and around 4:00 when I got up. We did more unpacking of food items, trying to get the kitchen straightened up first. People came and went until dark. We were thankful that the evening was fairly quiet, and we took that time to relax.
