Note: I got way behind again on posting Mom's journal notes, so I skipped ahead to January. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ January 23. School is scheduled to start a week from today, and I want to make use of as much time this week as possible to get everything in order. Therefore, most of today’s hours were spent printing Bible lesson papers for the lesson 1 (which will cover ten class days, perhaps more), printing memory verse reminders for the children to take home and getting them cut, getting a start on getting all the visuals and worksheets together, and all the other things that are needed for that course. Still have some work left to do tomorrow. I also printed out pages of verses to give out and got those cut. Prepared new verses to print when these run low. Answered the door several times, and Daddy probably answered five or ten times as often. Apekio came with a few bananas she had found at market. Praise the Lord! Bananas are scarce right now, and so are popo. Nurse Jonathan came this afternoon and took the stitches out of Daddy’s head. He is to come again Friday morning to take the stitches out of the other two places. (Dad had some skin cancer removed while he was in Goroka) And it was a blessing to take time out and go outside in the sunshine for a while as well. January 24. Thank you, Lord, for your help and strength and wisdom for today. There are so many things to think about to begin a new school, and it takes a lot of thinking to think about everything. Gradually things are coming together, but who knows if I am still forgetting some things. I’ve done a lot of printing; photo copying; coloring; organizing visuals, worksheets, books and other supplies, etc.. We received word that Antopa died today. He was quite elderly and had not been well for quite a while. The saddest thing about his death is that he was unsaved. January 25, Most of the day again was spent getting everything together to start school on Monday. I also changed the Pidgin Bible files back to letter size and redid the cover. I did take time out to prepare a pot of rice and tuna for dinner, and in the afternoon took time to make a batch of tortillas for my sandwiches. Wan came this morning and spent several hours replacing rotten fence posts. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.” (I Peter 5:6) January 26. It was so nice to get out for a real walk today, up the airstrip and back, instead of just ambling around the yard. The sky was so blue, and the air was pleasantly warm. By afternoon, the weather had completely changed and a light rain continued to fall the rest of the day. Most of my time today again was spent on printing and getting everything in order for school. January 27. Anna Jean came this morning with a bad headache and cold. She seemed to feel a good bit better after having some aspirin and also some coffee. After she did the laundry, cleaned the desks in the schoolroom. and cleaned the foot locker, she and I sat down together and talked about the schedule, lessons, and teaching material for classes starting this coming week. While we were busy talking, Jonathan came and took out the rest of Daddy’s stitches. He said everything looks good so we praise the Lord for that. After Jonathan left, Anna Jean played a bit at the computer, and Daddy and I went outside for some sunshine and a bit of exercise. The rest of the morning and the afternoon were spent on preparations for school. Praise the Lord, I believe everything is ready now. January 28. Another dry, sunny, but pleasant morning. After mid-morning, Daddy and I took a walk to the airstrip and down. Not up today. We went down and then across to Amos’s property, around his house, by the outside of our front yard fence, up the hill on the north side of the house, by the outside of the backyard fence on the east, and around the corner to the gate. It was a refreshing walk. Ran into the Yerontse family as they were coming down the airstrip on their way to lotu (church). Was encouraged as I read through the rest of Job chapter one and did a little Bible study on the last three verses. After that, I started redoing the computer-printed alphabet cards to make them smaller to use as flash cards. In the afternoon, I printed them out; and early this evening, I finished coloring them with the markers; and afterward, I got them cut up and ready to use.
