September 9. Arrived at C&C’s house a little bit early so had time to make my smoothie before the morning service. Pastor’s text in the first service was Matthew 9:36-38; John 4:35. He mainly gave statistics on the need of unreached peoples. We must be burdened by what Jesus was burdened for or we will never have a passion for missions. Are we comfortable with people dying and going to hell? Genuine Biblical compassion is always mixed with action. The Scriptures mixed with the statistics were very thought-provoking and heart-moving. In the second service, Pastor gave an introduction to II Peter. II Peter 3:18, theme verse for II Peter. Are you growing? God is coming back, so you must be growing so that you can combat apostasy. Chapter 1—a formula for growing. We can be anything God wants us to be because He empowers us, verses 1-4. Evidences of growing—verses 5-7. Constant reminders of truth. A more sure word of prophecy—the word of God. Chapter 2—false teachers for gain. There will always be false prophets. We must recognize what a false teacher looks like. What are their motives? verse 3—covetousness. Verse 19—they promise liberty, but they themselves are bound. Satan promises liberty, but he actually gives chains. Do you know your Bible well enough to see and hear error? Chapter 3—fire for the guilty. verse 10. We live in a perishing world. God will keep His promise—verse 4. No one likes to think of consequences or judgment, but we all must face it. Are you ready? Or are you ignoring the warnings? In between meetings, I printed update letters and envelopes, folded the letters and stuffed them in the envelopes, and had more prayer time before the next service. I left the stamping and sealing of the letters for Connie, and hopefully she will remember to put them out in the mail in the morning. My nap today was a little longer than usual, and I was very thankful for a little extra rest. In the cool of the evening, we went out and walked a bit together. Then I wrote an e-mail; and later Daddy and I discussed some of the things we need to buy and things we need to do to get ready to go, and then we prayed together. “10For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. 11For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. 12O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.” Psalm 84:10-12 Currently memorizing these verses. Just a blessing to know that there is a dwelling place away from the “tents of wickedness.” It is a place where I can freely serve my God, but sometimes it must take me to those who still dwell in the tents of wickedness that they might know there is deliverance from that life of bondage. And God has promised to be a sun (architecturally, that is a notched battlement) and a shield—a refuge and a defence for me. He has promised to give grace (how I need it!) and glory. And He has promised that He will not withhold one good thing from me if I walk uprightly. His blessing is upon those who trust in Him. What more could we ask?
