August 13. Another long and busy day. Up a little after 6:00 for shower, quiet time, and breakfast. Then off around 8:15 for Havelock for the meetings at Freedom Baptist Church. I was hoping that Linda would meet us there, but there was no sign of her. We were surprised to see Naomi Torberson there. She was out this way with the O’Malleys to work on a new computer system for Pastor Eborn. The O’Malleys went this weekend to Wilmington for meetings so Naomi came to Kohrs’ church. We did enjoy being in the meetings at FBC, and Pastor Kohr gave a wonderful message about the three crosses from John 19:16-18 and Luke 23:39-43 — the cross of rejection, the cross of repentance, and the cross of redemption. It was a message that brought tears to my eyes as it really made one consider what it cost Jesus to pay the penalty for our sin. After the meeting, nine of us went out to lunch at Baker’s Kitchen in New Bern — we four Youngs, three Kohrs, Naomi, and William (a man who attends FBC). The restaurant is Mennonite run, and Daddy and I had eaten there before with FBC people when we were at the church in April. We had to wait a little while for a table so sat outside on the sidewalk benches. Our server was very friendly and did his work efficiently. The servings of food were more than sufficient, the food was good, and we were all able to find something that we could eat. It was a little before 3:00 when we left the restaurant. We followed the Kohrs to the turnoff of 17 and followed 17 all the way back to Sneads Ferry. We arrived back a little after 4:00 and had about a half hour nap before we had to get ready to go to the evening meeting. Our meeting this evening was at Providence Baptist Church in Holly Ridge, Pastor Bo Osborne, where Tim & Ruth attend. Daddy showed the slide presentation and then preached on “Why Do Missionaries...?” People were very friendly and made us feel welcome. We enjoyed meeting their pastor. I was so delighted to see Mary J. I don’t know how many years it has been since I’ve seen her. She said she is 87 so she is only about 14 years older than I am. Just wish there was more time to spend with her. Her daughter Laurie was with her, and I was happy to meet her too. I do not remember Laurie from years ago as she was quite a bit younger than Linda.
