May 1. Praise the Lord for rain during the night last night. It must have rained quite heavily for a while as there was 1.6 inches in the rain gauge this morning. Around 1:00 this afternoon, Pastor Overbay called Daddy and asked if we could come earlier and meet him at the motel before the evening service. His wife was having labor pains, and he didn’t know if he would have to be at the hospital in the evening, or not. So as soon as they finished talking, we loaded up the car and headed out. We took the shortest route, thinking it would take us about three hours. The mountain roads, however, curved back and forth, back and forth like a snake; and although the scenery was beautiful and we enjoyed the ride, our time was running away, and we figured we wouldn’t get there on time. All of a sudden, we saw a sign that pointed to I81. That’s where we needed to go, but our route would take us much farther before we reached it. We stopped and looked at the map and found that this new route would go straight up to I81 on a road that looked very small on the map. Decided to give it a try. The road wasn’t any smaller than the ones we had been on, although no less winding. After a while, we saw a sign that read, “Glade Spring”, 16 miles. We knew we were just about to our destination, but time had run short. Daddy stopped and called the pastor, told him where we were, and asked if it was too late to meet him at the motel. He said to come on. We arrived there around 4:45+, just enough time for him to get us checked into our room. He had to run on to the church to teach the youth. We went and put things in our room and then headed over to the church ourselves so we could set up the display and the DVD. The meeting was at 6:00. Enjoyed talking with a few people beforehand and many others afterward. When everyone had left, we went out to Subway with the Overbays and enjoyed a time of fellowship with them. Would have loved to have spent more time with them. Mrs. Overbay’s labor pains had stopped so she was at the meeting tonight. I was glad she liked the baby blanket I had crocheted for the new baby. It gave me much pleasure to make it. They have two other precious children - Josiah, almost 7; and Abigail, 4 1/2. We were grateful for Pastor Overbay filling our van with gas before we went back to the motel for the night. It’s a really nice motel room - probably the largest we have ever slept in. It’s clean, and looks like it has been recently painted. There’s a king bed, a sofa with a hide-away bed, a table and two chairs, a desk and a chair at the desk, a long dresser, microwave and fridge, two night stands, good-sized bathroom, closet, and still lots of floor space to move around. The room goes from one side of the building all the way to the other, with a huge picture window which lets in lots of light. We are very grateful for God’s provision. “16Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. 17If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.” John 7:16,17
