January 10. Twenty-first day of winter. Already 49º when we got up this morning and up to 57º by mid-afternoon. Thankful to have a little break from the extreme cold. Praise the Lord for helping us finish the checking of John 15 this morning and almost half of chapter 16. After that I printed update letters and envelopes, wrote a note on Mary’s, and gave them to Connie to stuff, seal, stamp, and put out in the mail. Daddy went off to Gaffney to get milk for C&C. In the meantime, I wrote a couple thank you notes and then worked on the Scripture print file, getting the font resized for a couple more chapters of John. Had lunch; and after Daddy got home, we had nap. After nap, I finished up the resizing of John so am now ready to add chapters 14 and 15. Also got a shopping list made for tomorrow. Then I heated up some frozen lima beans for Daddy’s supper and afterward washed the dishes. About ten past six, we left to pick up Cindie and go to church. Prayed with “S” this evening. She said her Mom and Dad have been pretty sick with the flu but are recovering. Pastor Surrett said that Mrs. Surrett has been quite sick also. Pastor Ogle continued teaching on the ark and the mercy seat. This evening’s lesson was very encouraging, thought-provoking, and sobering. “1Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations. 2For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens…. 5And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O LORD: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints…. 8O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee? 24But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted…. 33Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail…. 52Blessed be the LORD for evermore. Amen, and Amen.” Psalm 89:1,2,5,8,24,33,52 A number of verses in this chapter that bring to remembrance God’s faithfulness. And the chapter ends with this benediction: “Blessed be the LORD for evermore. Amen, and Amen.” January 11. Twenty-second day of winter. Fair temperatures but rainy. We left here around 9:00 to shop. I don’t enjoy shopping that much, but it’s always nice to talk to people. Met up with Carolyn at Aldi this week. (Hadn’t seen her for several weeks.) It is always a joy to talk with her. She is always cheerful and loves to talk about the Lord. Saw Jeri S at WalMart—she was waiting for the nail salon to open. Ruth I. called while I was picking out socks at K-Mart. (K-Mart had a great sale on their winter socks. Had bought four pair last week, and there were still lots there today so bought ten more pair. Should have plenty of socks now to go to PNG.) Ruth wanted to let me know that she had received the birthday card I sent her. She said that James had been in the hospital again, but is back in the nursing home. From there, we headed across to the Dollar Tree on Marion Street so I could get a couple anniversary cards. Also got a larger gift bag for the baby things, and Daddy got some socks and a Sudoku book. Met up with Charles on the way in. Finally arrived home a little after 11:30. Got the food put away, and then it was lunch time. After nap, I wrote an e-mail and then got John 14 and 15 all set up in the Scripture print file, plus the English for John 16. This evening, besides doing dishes, I got part of a lesson written on John chapter 7, for Mike to use in his preaching. “1He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler... 14Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. 15He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. 16With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.” (Psalm 91:1-4 & 14-16) What a wonderful Psalm! How it comforts my soul to know that God cares so much for me!
